  1. I wholeheartedly agree with the above post, there definitley is something magical about this one! Totally evocative of being around a tree thats been lit up overnight and the branches are warm...I put some of mine in an oil diffuser and it makes the house smell insanley good. On me it gets a little faded but still has the same glowey effect.

  2. I never had the opportunity to try any past versions of this so I was very excited when it was included with the Yules this year! This scent is everything I love: vanilla, rich spices, a warm, creamy undertone and the delight inducing sugary aspect. The throw is pretty incredible! I can't wait to see what happens to this in it's first year of aging (if I last that long without dousing myself in it everyday),

  3. Jolly Roger for sure...maybe Cthulu? It's more clean/soapy than cologny though...I agree with Vicomte Valmont and Wilde (omg so good) and would also suggest Villian, The Bow and Crown of Conquest and El Dorado. El Dorado is the manliest scent that I own and I adore it.

  4. I was expecting a very vanilla frosting smell in this and instead I get the chocolate cake thing that other reviewers are talking about. It's SUPER cakey and strong when first applied and wears down into a soft, sweet, fun scent...I'm curious to see what this will do when it's aged a little bit.

  5. I haven't used this much, mainly due to the fact that for at least 6 months I thought it smelled like burnt fabric in the bottle and I just couldn't really deal with putting it on.

However, enough time has passed now and the civet opium combo has mellowed out in something super schmexy. I love the red Egyptian musk too. This has pretty strong throw and staying power. I got a lot of compliments on this today :)

  6. I bought this for one of my closest guy friends and he told me he used it this morning. He put a tiny but in his dreads and some behind his ears and he said he felt energized and more clear headed pretty instaneously. He has a 45 minute walk to work in the morning and he told me he was pretty jazzed the whole walk. Then it kind of wore off when he got to work but he felt much more level headed than he has been as of late. I knew this would have pretty specific meanings and results for him because he is the Leo'st Leo I have ever met and is already pretty magical himself so it could only be beneficial for him to have this oil. I think he does like the smell too which he described as "citrusy" before I blabbed on about how I think it smells like geranium and lemons..

I did decant a tiny bit out of the bottle for myself to keep but it was still full when I gave it to him. I'd like to think that the fact that I had it wrapped up in a special purple BPAL pouch (which i got from the Geek Girls Tweet up at NYCC last fall) gave it a little something extra as well :)

Edited to add that he told me he's never used such a charged oil before and that it has pretty amazing effects for him :)

  7. Freesia isn't a note I have seen much in my days of Bpaldom. The only freesia containing Bpal I know of is Mad Kate which is a retail exclusive and you can only buy it in a store that carries Bpal.

Mad Kate - Honeycomb, Red Currant, Freesia, Vanilla, Rose Geranium, Thyme and Gardenia

  8. I want a list for a True Blood gift pack =) BUT I fail, mine is mostly generic vampire, Any ideas to add?

    Blood

    Lust

    Deep in Earth

    Blood Kiss

Maenad (for Maryanne) or Blood Countess?

    Juke Joint (merlotte's?)

    Tavern of Hell (fangtasia?)

    Haunted (Bill?)

Dove's Heart (suki?) or Hellcat hehe

Wolf's Heart (sam?) or Loup Garou

    Black Rider (ERic Northman?)

    Voodoo Lily (for Tara?)

    Libertine (maybe for lafayette?)

    Disney Pack:

The Rose (Beauty & The Beast)

    Rapunzel (Tangled)

La Belle Au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty)

    Fae (Tinkerbell!)

Water Of Notre Dame (Hunchback of Notre Dame)

    Alice (Self-Explanatory)

With a DVD and some dolls, figurines, etc. All the scents are on the light/pretty side, since I could see this as being a gift for the young as well as the young-at-heart.

Erm, I love BOTH of these ideas!!!!

  9. Silken coconut, angelica, soft golden incense, tiare, carnation, and Asian pear.

This is my absolute favorite out of this series.
In the bottle I smell the coconut, and it is a sweet, soft coconut. I get a hint of the pear..but not enough to make me repel in horror as I normally cannot stand the smell of pear. I think Victoria's Secret ruined Pear for me back in high school with that Pear scented lotion and spray they used to make *shudder*

On me this is like heaven :wub2: I think the carnation and tiare combo make it creamy and candyish without being super foody. The incense comes out after a while and makes it a little smoky...so yeah creamy, sweet, coconutty, smoky beauty..this actually reminds me ALOT of Velvet Unicorn. I think if you love that scent you will like this. Also I will liken this even to Tiki Princess a little. Its the coconut + tiare thing

  10. My wins for the Lupers this year are:

    Red Lantern

    Burning Vulva

    Milk Chocolate, Raw Ginger, Butterscotch

    Night's Pavilion

    Harigata II

    Parlement of Foules

    Kypris

    The Arbor

I think if you love Smut you'd like The Arbor. It's super red musky.

If it's wine-y scents you're after (ala Zadok Allen Vineyard) then you probably should get Anthesteria.

  11. I got this as a frimp with my Yules this winter and just now tried it out..

totally smells like coca cola in the imp.

On however...wow I never would've expected that I would like this!! I have been on a smoky, sweet kick lately though. This smells (on me) like a less piney version of Pickled Imp (which I also loooove) The vetiver makes it smoky and I don't really smell the lime...smoky vanilla vetiver!

  12. This is from a really old bottle, a blue bottle as a matter of fact, that someone very kindly gifted to me.

Oil in bottle: smells like warm, honeyed sandalwood to my nose. The peach is faint. It certainly does have that "golden" quality to it. I've made remarks before about Beth's ability to make colors have a smell and this is again an example of that.

On skin: my word, this is GORGEOUS. The amber opens up on my skin and I get the vanilla too. The peach and sandalwood are in the background. I can't decipher heliotrope at all but it's not a recognizable note to my nose anyways. This is like eating vanilla ice cream while sitting in a sunbeam...sweet, creamy, warm and euphoric.

I am afraid that a new bottle may not smell this way so I will have to try to make this go a long way. It is slatherable though so I may fail in the attempt.

  13. Red musk lovers unite! This is probably the most red musk-red musky Bpal I have ever put on. It's pretty strong at first but I've been sitting here with it on for about 10 or 15 minutes and now its turning into this creamy, sweet but still some sexy grime red musk. I can't really pick notes out from this but I agree with other reviewers that this will be out of control when it gets some age to it. I might wear this all day today..

Note: almost 2 years later this is still ridiculously red musk sexy time. It's gotten smokier...so good.

  14. 2011 version:

I love, love this! It's a big surprise for me as I would not normally pick this purely based on note listings but I tried it and it was love at first sniff.

I get a juicy sort of smell, I swear it's almost like ripe pear but with a musky edge and a smoky quality at the end. It gets a bit sweeter the longer it sits on my skin and the lily is very much there. Throw is pretty decent. I think I will be wearing this a good bit and I bet it will smell even better in a couple of months.

  15. 2011 version:

Soft, lovely, gentle white rose with hints of the resins..this isn't incredibly strong on me but it does last a looooong time on. I wore it to bed and woke up and it was still there!

I have White Rose from the TP from the Unity Set and this is like it's more refined older sister. It's a cuddle scent ;)

  16. What's this now? A dirt smell that I can actually wear?! I had all but given up even though I love the dirt note in just about all Bpal's, but they have never lasted on me.

I tried this on yesterday at work and bought it within the hour. It's is so haunting and subtle but creepy! I dont really get oakmoss, just dry crumbly dirt and brittle roses. They blend so well together, I love this. The roses get more prominent after about 1/2 hour but the dirt is still there! Yay!

ETA for iPhone spelling typo fail.

  17. I feel like the description of notes is spot on in what this smells like in order. It is SUPER sweet and citrusy, almost even too much for Me, the resident candy smell queen in my neck of the woods. But it settles pretty fast and about 1 hour later has turned into a soft mint/taffy blend. I like the end more than the beginning.

  18. The Phoenix in Spring is such a hit for me! I actually did not expect to like any of the Phoenix's this year so I was surprised that I fell in love with this one.

First of all, the artwork is magical.

Second, this scent will transport you to spring instantly.

The wildflowers and cherry blossom are a wonderful combo. Grassy, colorful and just slightly sweet as the myrrh keeps if from going out of control.

The cherry blossom in this smells like bubblegum to me and that signifies that I needed an entire bottle.

  19. I think this is what the porridge smelled like when Goldilocks broke into the three bears house!

This is so creamy, spicy-sweet and comforting. The candied fruits are quite apparent but blend well with the creamyness. It's a warm, welcoming smell. I put some on last night after will call and it burned my arm a little but I think it's cause I had so many scents on already and my skin was worn out ;)

I'm very happy I got a bottle of this.
