    Omen

Deep, mysterious, and full of dark portents: oakmoss, juniper berry, myrrh and patchouli. I have never gotten the patchouli note from Omen. In the bottle all I can smell is Oakmoss and when I wear it its just all sweet oakmoss with a hint of the myrhh. It wears nicely, I was suprised!

Perhaps Croquet? Lime, Grapefruit, Nectarine, Rose, Sage, Patchouli, Bergamot and hedgehog musk... I dont know why I think of this in reference to Tonks probably because its sort of a crazy scent and Tonks has some craziness in her

That's the only Mrs. Norris suggestion I've seen. I think it's really good, but it would be nice if we could figure out a GC suggestion. Mrs. Norris is hard-- the cat scents people have suggested for Crookshanks, for example, just don't seem to suit her. Mrs. Norris strikes me as sort of chthonic. Maybe: Crossroads A chill twilit garden of blooms over dry earth and mosses, heavily laden with incense and offertory herbs. I think the dirt element adds a lot to this one. Sort of the scent of a cat that has been slinking around spying and had to run through bushes and herb gardens to get her quarry. The Witch's Garden Morning glory vines twisting around a patch of rampion, carrot, and parsley, with monkshood, hemlock, elfwort, sage, wormwood, and mandrake. Sort of the same concept as above but without the dirt. Seance rosewood, crushed rose leaf and the slightest touch of warm hazel. Not necessarily Mrs. Norris herself but the sense of being watched by her. The Obsidian Widow Pinot noir, dark myrrh, red sandalwood, black patchouli, night-blooming jasmine, and attar of rose. Dark, intriguing and full of feminity without necessarily representing human feminity. I think it's the scuttling description of the scent that inspires the connection. Man, this thread is so much fun for geeking out. Yes, yes it is. Regarding the Beth being ispired by Harry Potter, I would guess it is probably just a love of similar mythology and herbalism etc. that J.K. Rowling also probably has. Rowling used a ton of mythology and real life historical figures to craft HP, which is pretty evident if you research into some of the terms and the characters that are taught to the students of Hogwarts. I think I remember finding out that Nicholas Flemmel was a real person but I cant remember how at the moment. I think Beth and co. are creative enough on their own, but you can be inspired by so many things in life its hard to tell. Perhaps one of the great mysteries is that we will never know. Yes, Nicholas Flammel was a french alchemist. His shop still exists in Paris, and is one of the oldest houses in town.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flamel Ah, thanks! I knew I had seen it somewhere. That is so cool that his shop still exists! My two friends just went to Paris, I should've had them take a picture or something for me.

Now is anyone on this thread going to wear a Harry Potter appropriate scent to go see The Half Blood Prince next week? I know that I will be wearing my wizard hat and some Hellcat ( which to me resembles Butterbeer). Just curious

I was pondering matches with HP "villians" so to speak, and thought these sounded pretty good: Wormtail: Envy: Green Herbs slithering through mint, lime and lavender. Voldemort: Malediction: Red Patchouli and Vetiver Lucius Malfoy: Nero: Rosemary, Bay, Pine, Lemon Bellatrix Lestrange: Black Annis: Damp Cave Lichen (from being in Azkaban for so long), oak leaf, vetiver, civet, anise. Dolores Umbridge: London: Venerable Victorian Tea Rose, twisted, blackend and emboldened with wickedness. Fenryir Greyback ( I might be spelling this wrong): Iago: Sinuos black musk, wet leather, vetiver. Hmmmm all of these smells for the most evil characters are have vetiver. Maybe I just associate vetiver with evil?

    Agrat-Bat-Mahlaht

I got this as part of my christmas BPAL loot this past year and I was immediately in love upon first sniffage. I love anything with skin musk and that is what amps on me when I wear this. My Husband says it smells like lust to him, HA! In th bottle it's creamy amber honey with an edge of apple blossom and then on my skin its the skin musk, also what I am guessing might be the teak, and the cream. I dont really get caramel out of this at all. I wore this to Vermonts very first goth-festish ball in March and got many compliments all night. The Argrat is a winner for me and I will have to get another backup bottle soon.

    Velvet Unicorn

I second that! that just made me laugh so hard I scared my poor dog.... I knew as soon as I saw this listed in the Velvets that it had to be mine, that I needed 2 bottles to be safe. And I was right. I think this could be hands down one of my favorite BPAL'S to date. In the bottle: Cherry-starburst tang, definatley smell the meringue. Faint whiffs of strawberry On me (mind you I really slathered this because I was so excited): Creamy, fruity sparkling strawberry and sugary cherry. Exactly what I wanted. Someone told me today I smelled like a tropical island. I was like, not quite but close I soooooo love this Unicorns rule! I wish I still had my Unicorn Trapper Keeper from 2nd grade. Ah to be young again.

    Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self-Similarity v1

Aww man, my silver number has rubbed off already My bottle smells like lemons and rose geranium when sniffed. When I have it on it turns into bergamot/lemon Earl Gray tea time. I definatley agree with the lemony-Embalming Fluid association that people seem to be making on here. The throw is pretty strong and lasts awhile. It made my whole living room smell like it! This was my first Chaos Theory purchase and I dont regret it one bit. It may not be one that will wear that often as I am not a huge fan of lemon but I love it anyways for being special Oh and one of my friends got a bottle of the Snake Oil Series and it smelled EXACTLY like brownies. I was sooo jealous! LOL!

    Agapē

I knew this one was going to be a winner for me! I love sweet, foody smells! My bottle of this came on Tuesday but I havent been home so tonight, after driving through a mild snowsotrm at 10pm, I came home to Agape! The label is so cute! just in time after our "Queen of Hearts" Winter is a Drag Ball here in VT. When I opened the bottle of sniff, I immediately got the apple and passionfruit with vanilla cream. I literally squealed with delight to the annoyance of my half asleep husband. After slathering this on my wrists all I could smell was the apple, but after abotu 10 minutes out came the sweet pea and vanilla cream. I think I can smell the tonka too now that its dried... Wonderful, absolutley wonderful. I shouldve ordered two bottles!

    White Rose

I agree, White Rose to me is very reminiscent of Katrina Van Tassel, but a kick sweeter. I can definately smell the white rose, vanilla and coconut on my wrists, but not the frankinscense. Combined with red rose....Words cannot even describe the magic that happens.

    Red Rose

Red Rose is absolutley to-die for amazing. This is a high contender for my favorite blend that exists thus far. The rose blends so well with the amber and Indian Musk. I am going to have to be careful with preserving this one. Anyone that does well with spices and Rose will be psyched to get this.

    The Illustrated Woman

Here are the reactions to The Illustrated Woman which I riecieved today: Me: Wow!!!!! This is amazing!! Co-worker: This is sex in a bottle 1st person at the bar: You smell soooooo good 2nd person at the bar: Damn you smell good! 3rd, 4th 5th anf 6th person at the bar: Mmmm you smell like babies 7th person: You smell so f'ing good! This is the first BPAL smell I have ever had this many compliments on. In the bottle it smells like piney, smoky vanilla and when it wears down it has a faint hint of patchoul mixed with those two. The tobacco breaks through early on, but just enought to mix with the honey ansd skin musk taht I smell at first. This is excellent and I am going to need mulitple bottles.

    Pumpkin IV (2008)

The smell of Pumpkin IV is what I had hoped Jack would smell like when I got an imp of it 2 years ago. It is smooth pumpkin, creamy and buttery but NOT too sweet. My husband says it smells like a well made vanilla latte . On my skin the buttery goodness dries down and out comes the cherry tobacco. I dont ever smell the sage but I think that with the combination of cherry tobacco helps to keep the inital mellow od the pumpkin. I dont know if this makes sense, I just know that its DAMN GOOD. Oh and the picture on the front is pretty cool too...kinda looks like a pumpkin Jason mask, haha.

    Fearful Pleasure

Oh lord! this is the fall scent I have been trying to obtain by buying fall scent candles every year! I have been slathering this on for days and I am in total heaven! in the bottle: macintosh apple smell with a hint of cinnamon on skin: cider...then smokey cider... after 1/2 hour: at my store we sell this stuff during the holidays called Ginger Jack which is apple cider, echinecea and ginger. This is exactly what it smells like, regardless of how long its been since I've put it on. I freaking love it!!!!!!!!!!!

    Judith and Holofernes

Judith & Holofernes smells like musky honey on me. The skin musk thing didnt work when I had it in a Blood Kiss imp (which I enabled my friend with) but it seems to work reaaly well now in this one. I love it! I dont get patchouli at all just deep, dark honey. I was at my friends house the other night with it on and she was like "What the hell do you have on and where can I get some?!?!?" ahh yes, the enabling continues

    Mad Kate

I put on Mad Kate at 1 pm today and it is now almost midnight and I can still smell it on my wrists. I am finding that honey scents become amazing on me. I think its the freesia that makes me swoon, its so hard to find a freesia that isnt overpowering and this one is mellow but still makes me be like, oooooh yeah. I cant explain it better than lush. Luscious flowery yumminess. Damn it! I must have it! arrrggh!

    El Amor y la Muerte

This is my favorite out of the Retail Exclusive Salons. When I smell it in the bottle, all I can basically smell is the clove, but something dusty and creamy lies underneath (I am guessing its the patchouli mixed with the sandalwood). I dont really smell the rose at all. This scent is the complete opposite of the fruity, sweet smells I usually favor (Jailbait is my all time fav). But I fricking love it!!! I slathered a bunch on yesterday when it was 80 degrees and humid and then got in the car with my husband and he was like, OH MY GOD YOU SMELL SOOOOOOOOO GOOD!. Its always good if it gets his seal of approval . If you are into earthy smells, just try a little and see what happens.
