    What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?

I've been testing most oils on my boy, who is very sensitive to scent and at this point only wears perry ellis 360 for men. He's usually commenting how I smell like a hippy. Now that he has gotten more used to me wearing the scents i like he is much more mild, just saying "you really like those spicy scents." Anyway, i've been trying to find one he will just wow over. I've tried Villian, Dracul, Wilde, Haunted, Jolly Roger, Hellfire, etc...because they smell so "man" to me (although I wear them all and love them with exception to Jolly Roger). Anyway, we were in Black Broom today, where they have testers for all the scents they carry. He tried on Leanan Sidhe before I could stop him. And while he still said "that is very ummm West Hollywood" he couldn't stop sniffing himself saying "I really like this one the best." After drydown it was a bit too powdery, but I was amazed how "unfeminine" I thought it smelled on him! Now I'll have to start trying scents I never would have thought of as manly to find one he likes LOL. Go figure.

    The Coiled Serpent

I get a lot of wood from this...sandalwood, cedar, not sure which. I don't get much else, but my skin does that....yet to find a scent with a big wood, patchouli note that balances on me. I'm curious about it's uses in yoga and for cleansing and breathing. But as a scent for general wear. Can't do it.

    Magdalene

I am shocked by this. I'm not familiar with labdanum for some reason so wasn't sure what to expect. When I first put it on, I was expecting to smell roses, which amplify and overpower everthing on me. Instead I got "WTF" is that? It just felt weird, but familiar and I couldn't place it. It took a while for that to start to fade (15-20 min) and the sweetness of the rose started coming out. Then I realized it smelled like jalapeno's to me..The green, pickled jalapenos on nachos at the fair. Rose jalapeno's or jalapeno roses. Now that it's faded more, it is pretty and soft and beautiful. Just sweet, light rose. Tonight I've tried two rose scents and they are the first two i can actually wear! Love it.

    Baron Samedi

When I first got a whiff of this, I thought "Hearth." A slightly smokey, fruity sweet...that stage went away within a couple minutes and I started getting something I refer to as "cigar ash" ala jolly roger. But as I have let this dry down, it's really surprised me. Very lovely. Masculine in a green, earthy way. The rum is lovely. I am constantly amazed. I could see this smelling great on a man, but I love it on me. I'd love to smell this in soap/shower gel! I couldn't detect any cinnamon or cloves, both of which amp up on me bigtime, also no almond. My nose is bonkers I guess.

    The Dormouse

Today is a great oil day, I've had some great one's! The dormouse is lovely. I tend to like the tea scents, although they are all very light on me. This is just so innocent, I can't get over it. It smells to me like sitting outside on a spring morning, drinking milky sweet tea, very soft blooming vine flowers around. Lovely blend. It does seem to fade fast, which is expected from me, but it is such a sweet, pretty residue!

    Wrath

Damnit, i love this and yet can't wear it. It is final proof that my chemistry turns Dragon's Blood into a weird plastic funk smell. This is gorgeous (I can still sniff around the plastic). It is the only scent with cloves that I have felt was wearable as my skin normally amps up the clove. It is wonderfully spice, slightly sweet, without being overbearing. So nicely blended. You can't tell it's black pepper, you just get this great "punch" to the spice. Lovely and Hot!

    Aeval

Wow, I get barely any floral from this. At first, I freaked. I hadn't read the description and thought "what the heck is that?" I could just smell this odd note that I couldn't place, no sweetness either. As it dried, I started to get a tad of tonka, perhaps a touch of sweet pea. The sage is different to me, totally different than in corazon. I think as a top note, it just doesn't turn me on, it smells a bit more leathery than herbal to my nose.

    Kurukulla

Well, I just found my first rose scent. I've said over and over that I can't wear rose. My skin usually amps rose up so it dominates and I just have bad memories of those "tea rose" years. This is gorgeous. I can't believe I love a rose scent! At first it's fruity, it's definately luscious and juicy. Wow. I can smell the rose, but it adds this thick, pulsing, just touch of rose scent to the base and the predominant note is wonderful lotus, warmed by the sun. Love, love, love it!

    The Living Flame

Can't believe I forgot to review this one! It is very "red" isn't it. Wet, I do feel like there is just a tinge of some sweet fruit, plumish as someone said, although it goes away very quickly for me and I don't seem to smell it again at all. There's a softness I usually associate with amber and an almost creaminess to it that I get from heliotrope. Interesting. I am sure I am sooo way off base. I don't know enough about flowers to say which they are, but at first I thought there was a slight rose smell, rosewood...something along those lines, although again, I don't get an actual rose after that at all...hmmm, some reviewer I am! I think this is a very sexy scent. It is a bit "heady" or "perfumy" since I am a headache gal and I'm not sure I can wear it (just as I get with Kali and Lust and Zephyr). But it really is cozy and sexy and red baby doll with really high heels!

    Hearth

Gosh, I just love the smokey, sweet, cherry strength of Hearth. I think you're right it is industrial strength...but think of all the money you'd save on buying more of it if you didn't even have to apply it! Hearth is so leather chair, dark room, oriental rug, liquor and pipe to me...I LOVE IT PS - I'm not following you today Josey, I swear! LOL
  11. Damn, someone beat me to it...hetarie smells exactly like bnever and flying saucers to me. It's a scent I'm learning to like, but wow! pure honey and whatever goodness makes it extra special! I have found nothing that smells like flying fox, i think there are complimentary layering like maybe venom and caterpillar, but nothing dead on like it!

    Siren

This is very vanilla and jasmine. It almost smells slightly woodsy to me. I get sleepy, white, thick petal'd flowers and vanilla from this. Unfortunately, I don't get along with apricot or peach. As much as I love the thought and think it's a great addition to this type of scent, it smells fake to me and lends it a "not in love" status.

    Seraglio

I had great hopes for this one as I had heard how sexy it was. I am sure that it is, but my skin chemistry and nose aren't able to figure that out. The first 5 minutes or so were almond. I got excited! Then the rose started to seep through and within about 15 minutes it was all rose...never found the orange or any other note. My body tends to amp up roses and woods...unfortunately it did the amping thing for this as well...tooo bad. I love the name and love it in the bottle. Perhaps it's a room scent for me.

    Perversion

At first I get the booze, which I love, but prefer rum over wine and this is a little winey. It immediately smokes up though. I almost feel like I'm getting a waft of spice. And it's smooth, like a flavored "creme" cigarette...yum. The funny thing is, as the day wore on, I kept doing the "damn it smells good around me" thing, but when I sniffed my wrists, It didn't smell wonderful. This scent "emenated" from me. A spicy sexiness actually, like i'd been up all night drinking, smoking and......very perverted. Yum.

    O

O is a pretty scent. It's not quite right for me, I prefer the bit of spice in my Chimera, but it's beautiful nonetheless. A deep, skin, sexy powdery scent on me. Hard to define what is in it. It's sweet, almost rosy to me and very, very powdery. As it dries, the powder amps up in an almost smoky way. Very pretty.

    Forbidden Fruit

I really like Forbidden Fruit. It's the first scent that I consider almost heady tropical floral that I found with bpal and I love it. Thick, soft, velvety, heady petals of a lotus flower. Sweetened by amber, very lovely. This is a wonderful scent to fall asleep to as if you are on vacation somewhere tropical. Nice. I'm really so taken up with the lotus and amber, I don't get fruit from this. And I am glad :-)

    Ave Maria Gratia Plena

The first time I tried this, I wasn't impressed, but now I find it very pleasant. I get a lot of lemon from this. Not a citrus - tart lemon, but a nice soft lemon, grounded in the sandalwood and sage. The more it dries, the more the wood comes out and I think it really becomes a very gender neutral lemon/sandalwood scent.

    Mata Hari

Although not perfect, and not quite for me - this is the type of blend I keep looking for. I normally can't do roses, but this didn't smell rosy on me at all. Wet, it was floral, not coffee, and on drydown the coffee came out. Just a hint to give the floral a luscious, different smell...The deepness of the mahogany and the vanilla tonka sweeting...gorgeous. Unfortunately, the flowers are a bit dominant and perfumy to me...I would love to see the coffee, mahogony, tonka etc...mixed with white flowers which would be less headachy and more wearable for me. I think the mix and complexity of this blend is amazing!

    Leanan Sidhe

Now that someone mentioned fabric softener, I can't get that out of my head! It's not a bad thing, mind you, but it does express the soft perfuminess of this blend. Hard to pick out individual notes, very well blended. I do get the sense of little tiny flowers, white bells and purples and those type. This does not smell very herbal to me, at least not how i consider the herbals to smell. The flowers dominate and it's a pretty spring scent, although a bit perfumey for the headache type of person - like me!

    Dana O'Shee

It took me quite a while to appreciate Dana O'Shee. I waited longingly for it and was sure I would love it, but when I got it, I thought "meh." Which is also how I felt about Lush snowcake and scents that people say are similiar. I found myself much more enamored with spicy, strong scents. I think I traded or sold my first 2 5ml of Dana and all my imps. Then something happened, I don't know what, and I can't be without her. Comforting sweet milk, I adore it and find it essential to have with me at all times. It's a great innocent sweet scent.

    Swank

Zing! Wet, this is all about tart, juicy, fruit. Super citrus, almost limey in a way. Not boozy at all, like some of the wine scents, just clear water and citrusy pomegranite. I'm not a big smell like fruit person - and it wasn't special enough for me to keep, but I can see where it will be a delightful summer scent for some. Very refreshing.

    Glitter

Glitter is refreshing and sweet and happy. Wet, it starts out bazooka bubble gum to me, which isn't a bad thing by the way! As it's drying, I get a hint of lemony goodness, not citrussy tart, but soft powdery sweet. Probably the wine and pear...almost like a fruity version of a lemon drop...that sweet lemon sugar that rims the glas of the cocktail. Yum. For a lemony scent (even though i know it's not lemon) I love this!

    Sudha Segara

I love ginger and was really hoping for a strong but creamy ginger in this one (could they reformulate????hmmm????). I tried Sudha on different occasions and from different imps, just in case, but unfortunately I couldn't detect anything. It is so light and obviously my skin just eats it, so it's hard to smell at all. Tiny bit of sweet milk...so sad...I am very jealous of those that are finding it lovely. Sometimes I hate my nose.

    Bon Vivant

I think Bon Vivant smells exactly as described. Light and bubbly strawberries. I don't get any alchohol from this - aka champagne - but the effervescense is definately there. The strawberries are light and happy. Unfortunately this fades very quickly on me, as the lighter scents tend to do, and I am a smell her coming girl, so it's not a big bottle. Another scent I would love to give to my niece or a younger girl just starting to appreciate perfume!

    Bewitched

This is a nice, light, but girly scent on me. Wet, it is sweet and fruity, very pretty blackberry scent. As it dries down the fruity kinda dissappates into a cotton candy smell with a perfume wafting from it. In the end, it smells too much like Lush creamy candy bath products, which aren't my favorite. Would be an excellent scent for those that love creamy candy, pink sugar etc... and also a great scent for a young girl as it is light and sweet.
