1. It starts off all myrrh and sweet berries...and then the mushroom comes out.

    and then hides.

    and then comes out.

Seriously, it isn't staying stable for two sniffs in a row.

By itself, I really don't know about this one...however as part of the set?

    The set together is delish.

  2. Thanks guys, more to add to my list! :) I think my problem with most of the vanilla's I've tried so far is my chemistry makes the vanilla take a giant step back almost into oblivion. :(

Does anyone know what Egg Nog Latte smells like? I love eggnog and nutmeg and cream, I'm thinking if this one has no rum or anything to muck it up, it may be delicious smelling! I can't find the reviews of it, only the other Egg Nog.

Eggnog Latte is pretty much a coffee latte scent. If you love the scent of cappuchinos or lattes then you will like it. If coffee is not what you are looking for, you need to find something else. If you aren't finding the reviews, it may be because it was an unreleased scent. It is here.

For a vanilla that will step forward? That's hard for me since I tend to amp vanillas slightly. I haven't tried Vanilla Orchid, but for a vanilla without other notes to take over, that might work best? Otherwise, aged Dorian would be a suggestion. Dorian really needs a few weeks to really shine, in my opinion.

Or, you can try to find some Love's Philosophy... Vanilla, cream, and saffron....It's an LE but I do occasionally see it around in the swaps. That might be simple enough for the vanilla to be noticable on you.

  3. Wet, it is very green and wet, like sap dripping from broken stems.

Dry, it is tea and wasabi. Faint tea and wasabi.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to resist the lure of coriander. Most unfortunately for me, it never shows up. Ah well.

  4. For something with musk, vanilla and as much wood as there is listed, I'd think this would be stronger on me? Instead, this starts off as medium throw and very quickly becomes a close to the skin scent.

Wet, I can smell the vetiver and woods and they nearly cover the sweeter anise, vanilla and mandarin. It's dark and smooth, with only a hint of sweetness.

Drying, it stays smooth, but becomes a very quiet, close to the skin, sweetness. It's barely detectable unless I really get close, sort of like black fur on black velvet, I suppose.

I am really very surprised at how quiet a scent this is on me.

    ~edit~

So, I walk into my computer room this afternoon and go, "Mmmmmmm...what is that smell? Did I spill something? I hope I didn't have a spill of whatever I am smelling! Oh...I put some of the Velvet Panther on a paper towel to try it on something other than my skin. Ooooohhhh..." So, it turns out that this, if it is faint on my skin for some unfathomable reason(I thought vanilla and woods liked me!), might be the scent that takes over my locket untill I get tired of it...which may not happen. Wow! If this scent doesn't work on your skin, try it on a bit of cotton or something instead. It is fabulous!

  5. CCCXXVIII

If I read the number correctly, since it is smudged.

O and something fresh...There's a flower here, but, not one I can instantly identify. There's pollen, and spring...Plus honey and amber.

For a non-floral person like me, this is actually pretty nice. It's mostly the vanilla amber and honey with just a hint of some not overdone flower. I don't feel like I am being whacked over the head with a bouquet, but rather presented with a single bloom picked from a garden rather than purchased from a florist.

  6. I can smell the vetiver in the bottle.

On, I can smell vetiver and oranges. As it dries I am getting a nice licorice kick, and a faint whiff of cinnamon goes by. I can smell the teak, oranges, tangerine, and licorice, but the vetiver is still fierce.

At will call I lost track of where I put this scent on my arm in the midst of trying so many different scents. I am hoping that trying this solo works better.

Drying, there's vetiver overlaying everything, but, so far the licorice and oranges are still there. On my skin it is unlikely in the extreme that the teak will vanish. Overall? A fierce but slinky scent. Attractive but edgy, with slashes of sweet gold and spicy black.

If it stays like this I will love it.

~edit~Several hours later, what I have is a softer and much less edgy scent that is mostly amber, cinnamon and licorice. There might possibly be a little bit of tangerine left, or it could be my imagination. Amazingly, the wood and vetiver have vanished. I could wish that it stayed a little edgier and darker...but, this is still a nice spice scent.

  7. I can smell the Irish coffee, tonka and pipe smoke, but, I am getting a lot of the wood as well. LOTS of wood.

The tobacco seems much smokier than the tobacco in Velvet Bandito. The Irish coffee isn't dominant enough on me to really think of this as "foodie." I'll have to come back to it later, and hopefully it will be better without 15 other scents competeing with it...but, I think I am happier with Eggnog Latte and Bah for coffee, and Velvet Bandito for tobacco. Perhaps the combination wasn't meant to be for me.

  8. After trying this at Will-Call I couldn't wait for my order to arrive. I'd ordered it on April 1st(the day it went live), since I was looking for the perfect tobacco. I may have found it!

That scent I was always looking for when I was sniffing around in tobacco stores? This is it, but, the box is aromatic wood, and filled with spices.

The dust is similar to that which is in Parliment of Monsters in the Carnivale. It isn't Dirt, which I amp, but, just enough dust to put a very slight haze around the edges of the other scents. The tumbleweeds are spicy, because, according to what Beth said at Will-Call, she remembers tumbleweeds as being spicy, and it is that impression that we are getting. The spice is somewhat along the lines of Morroco, so if you like that you should DEFINITELY try this. The cedar isn't overwhelming. I amp wood, but this is merely a cedar box to contain the rest. The tobacco is lovely sweet tobacco, not smoke.

    I love it.

~edit~And....it lasted all day looong! 9 hours so far, and it is only softer and more velvety. =)

  9. Subtle and soft. Musk and something slightly sweet and not terribly floral...or not any of the expected florals for sure. If you want to wear perfume that makes people think that YOU smell that good, this may be it.

As with many of the light musks, this will probably get better in about a week or more as it settles. I like this one very much already, though.

  10. CXCI ? The label is smudged already. I've had this for over a week, now, and have tried it a couple times trying to get a better handle on it.

Wet, I smell lemons and Snake Oil.

Dry, the Snake Oil takes over. The lemons are gone underneath the spicy spicy musky vanilla that is Snake Oil on my skin.

It may even out a bit over time? As it is, this is mostly Snake Oil once it dries, and I already have some of that.

  11.

In the imp and wet, this is heavy on the jasmine and neroli.

Drying, the patchouli and vetiver become noticable...behind the jasmine and neroli.

I doubt the carnation ad bergamot are going to be able to hack their way forward in all that. On me, this is jasmine and patchouli with a bit of vetiver. Heady and dark.

  12. A bit sweeter than straight Dorian. I suspect it may be a mild fruit...something like pear? Plus licorice!

Pear and licorice Dorian. Mild, sweet, not cloying, and the throw is about what I am used to from Dorian; that is, it is enough for me to smell, but, not more than an occasional faint whiff for those around me. Very nice, and I like it.

The licorice didn't last very long at first, but, Dorian gets better on me with a little bit of age on it. I expect this one will as well.

  13. LXXXIX

Sniffed in the bottle, this is powerful...a bit like Frederic or Tristran in some fashion that I can't pin down yet?

On me, this is bay rum and dark woods from Frederic...and possibly redwood, tonka and spices from Tristran? Plus myrrh and frankincense which are usually amazing for me. I'll need to wear it a bit to see if this actually has coriander in it...There is definitely something spicy. I definitely like it, and I know it will only improve with a bit of aging.

This one would smell totally and truly amazing on a guy, I think. I'll wear it anyway, but, on a guy this would be sexay as all get out. Mmmm.

Drying this is smoothing out a bit. I want to stroke it or rub up against it. Heh. It is truly and terribly sad that my husband can't do perfume.

  14. The label is a madder red color.

The chocolate in this smells melted to me, at first, and then becomes cooler and fresher...like reverse time lapse or something. The cherry is mostly a fruity sweetness rounding out the scent. The bamboo is part of what is making it seem wetter/cooler/fresher as it comes forward.

This is very different from February's 13. There's more chocolate, less spice, and there is an overall feeling of coolness to the scent, rather than warm dry spicyness which is what I get from February's 13.

  15. Considering the state of the economy and other worldwide woes, I think we all need a little extra dose of good luck. A sweet, comforting base of dark chocolate and brown sugar with thirteen herbs of good fortune, including nutmeg, Tonka, allspice, star anise, Jamaican and African gingers, devil’s shoestring, lucky hand root, and thyme.

Am I the first because the color of the label is a bit indeterminate? I was wondering if "Navy" covered it or not.

This is verah verah nice...but, chocolate is only present in the background on me. I have the impression that this is going to last well on me, as well, though it may change a bit over time.

Mostly this is spice, with a base of brown sugar and chocolate. The dominant notes are a medley of the star anise, allspice, nutmeg and gingers...plus all the other spicy herby things that I can't identify yet. The brown sugar and the chocolate are merely adding sweetness and tying the rest together a bit.

Six hours later, what I have left is a brown sugar and tonka scent. I like this. It is very different from all of my other spicy scents. I'd still classify it as foody partly because of the brown sugar drydown, but, I don't think I'd classify it as a chocolate scent. Chocolate was only a background note in this for me.

    ~edit~
Second wearing. Throughout most of the day the two most dominant scents are the ginger and the brown sugar. There's enough kick from the spices to keep the sweetness from ever aproaching cloying (on me, anyhow). For a good long while I was thinking this smelled just a little bit like those Japanese ginger snacks...the ones I just spotted in Trader Joe's...gingery and crusty with sugar...IF the sugar were brown instead of white.

Don't buy this expecting the chocolate to be dominant! It is very much a background scent, and chocolate and my skin get along great, just so you know. If, however, you are hankering for GINGER, this might be right up your alley.

I have occasional ginger cravings, so I think I will be holding on to this, very tightly. =)

  16. Wet, it's fruit and sweet pea. The apple comes to the forefront fast, so now it is apple and sweet pea, and becoming mostly apple. I can just detect the guava. Now I am finding a bit of the sugar cane. The vanilla cream, carnation and Tonka are not apparent yet.

Sweet and fruity, with just a little bit of the sweet pea as a floral tint.

This lasts forever on me, but, it changes. A few hours in, the vanilla and sugar become the dominant notes, and over the course of the afternoon it beomes mainly a warm sugared vanilla cream. Very nice.

  17. It starts off very green smelling...looking at the list, I have no idea what might be smelling green. It doesn't last long, though. Soon it starts to smell like a sweetened paper bag. Thankfully, that doesn't last long either. =)

In an hour or so it dries down to a creamy sweet fragrance. The leather and cognac keep it from being an innocent creamy sweetness.

Very unfortunately, there is still paper bag underneath it all, and I fear that that is the scent that will last the longest on me.

  18. Their scent of their slick, rubbery hides is bittersweet, ticklish, and skin-creeping: something akin to yuzu, white grapefruit, and kumquat mixed with the snow-dusted flowers of Mount Ngranek.

A really neat scent. It starts off strong citrus with a nice toothy bite, though it is already fading somewhat and smoothing out.

I picked this one to try out because I was looking for other scents with yuzu to compare, and this one was handy...having been frimped with the decants. =)

I like it, but, it isn't lasting. And yes, I'll be looking for more yuzu scents now that I have a clue. I just hope I can get it to last sometime, as neither scent with it is lasting well on me at all. =(

  19. On me, wet, it is mostly moss and soft musk.

Now I am trying it in a different spot on me, as the cherry blossoms seem reluctant to show up.

Nice, but, on me almost vanishingly faint; A clean scent, rather than a floral.

    ~edit~

Second wearing, the cherry blossoms show up. This is very nice, but, soft and unobtrusive. It almost seems sweet and sugary on me, but, that may be the musk reacting as it occasionally does on my skin. It isn't strong, but, the soft scent has lasted all day long.
