    Tissue

I totally agree with the last review. I get all gardenia and so far can't detect any honey. I usually don't go for florals but since this is so different from what I usually wear, I think I will keep it. I definitely agree that this is for special occasions and I know my friends at work would love this.I think they find my usual scents a bit odd. Also, on me it's strong. I just touched my wrist to the top of the cap and it's fairly strong. Just to edit. I wore this today and while I didn't think I put alot on, my husband's first greeting this morning was "boy, you smell". I asked is that good or bad....he said good. For those who fear honey, don't worry. I amp honey, and I am getting very little here.

Oils making my skin dry, help!

I have noticed that where I apply the oils (neck, by ears, cleavage, wrist) the skin is very dry. Some of the oils make me itch, mainly the aquatic ones, so I avoid them. Does anyone else get dry skin from the oils? Would you suggest mixing the oils with odorless moisturizer? Thanks, Denise

    Pumpkin III (2008)

This is gorgeous. I tried it once last night but didn't smell any pumpkin. Today while still wet I smell the pumpkin and citrus(juicy red grapefruit and lime). It's not a heavy pumpkin scent for those afraid of pumpkin. Not buttery at all, but a slightly sweetened citrus blend. I like this so much better than Embalming fluid and all the other citrus blends I have tried. It's really pretty and one I won't fear wearing around non BPAL people. Looks like I may actually break my promise to myself and get a bottle of this one. Edit: I know what this reminds me of - a Mojito. It didn't fade as I feared. Lingered all day, pretty close to the skin. I was at a craft fair and once in awhile I would catch this whiff of something so delicious and realized it was me. This one is good. Maybe my favorite pumpkin because it's not really all that pumpkin but just uses the pumpkin to sweeten.

    Pumpkin I (2008)

I also get the maple syrup and coconut note with very little pumpkin. Not as sweet as Red Lantern on me, but I think the maple note might get to me after awhile.

    Hellhound on My Trail

I also got the same Black Lace similarity. It's not masculine but more unisex on me. It does however, remind me of the same tobacco not in Black Lace with a touch of vanilla. I don't get any spice or booze. I do like it very much.

    Gunpowder

Something must be wrong with my nose. When I first applied it the smell of peanuts came through. Then after awhile it reminded me of black pearl, only a bit woodier. I don't get any oatmeal, hay or molasses at all. I will try again, but next time not after a hot shower.

    Inez

This smells very close to Glowing Vulva on me, although in my case, not initially as sweet. I can smell a hint of the cedar and after a few minutes it's a lovely golden amber smell. Very clean, light on the vanilla. I can see where some may say it's similar to a masculine scent. But then, I like cleaner, less floral scents. The throw isn't that strong. It stays close to the skin. This is a bottle order for me. Love it, and I don't say that about most BPAL scents.

    Red Musk

It has taken me awhile to finally figure out the red musk works really well on me. I didn't even realize Smut and Chrysanthemum moon have red musk in them. It figures because they worked well on me. I hae to say my favorite red musk is Red Moon, followed by The Haunted Palace and Scherezade. I loved Chry. Moon, but my husband didn't appreciate it. I am also in the minority here about Mme. Moriarity. There is something medicinal in it, and it's been aged, that just bothers me. However, I would suggest you try it because most people love it.

    The Haunted Palace

I bought this because someone said it was similar to Red Moon, which I love. I have to agree that it is very similar. I find it sweeter, fruitier and spicier though. The red musk does stand out, giving it the same feel of Red Moon. It starts off almost a bit too sweet, that I am a bit wary. However, it calms down, still remaining strong with a huge throw. My husband, who usually hates perfume, walked in and said "you smell good". An hour later, this is just gorgeous. The initial grape scent is now a warm spicey orange, musky blend. Not powdery at all. I don't smell any roses, although the initial scent was a blend of fruit with a hint of some undistinguishable floral. I don't get the vanilla. At least, I wouldn't call it a vanilla scent at all. The amber warms it up. While not the same as Red Moon, I really love this. I keep sniffing my arm, which has this lovely subtle cinnamon spice smell. I can wear this without fear my co-workers will think I am weird! This is a winner for sure. Edit 9/29- I am really loving this. Not as sweet as the first time I put it on and I now get the soft vanilla amber in the drydown. May definitely need another bottle.

    Recs for Longest Lasting Oils

I find that Snake Oil, Shub Niggareth, TKO, and LE Red Moon and Chrysanthemum Moon last the longest on me. The shortest is Dan O'Shee and Egg Nog, which virtually disappears.
  12. Scanmike

    Egg Nog

Well I finally got a bottle in a swap. Not sure what to make of it. Love it in the bottle. Smells exactly like Egg Nog. When I first got it I quickly rubbed a bit on my wrist and I got this boozy egg nog smell. Then I reapplied it after a shower and my skin just ate it up. It smelled like pencil shavings. Not booze, no sweetness, not even play dough. I tried it again this morning and again "poof" it's gone. The same pencil shaving smell with a hint of vanilla that got stronger thru the day. It's just so faint and nothing like it smells in the bottle. I read almost every review and seem to be the only one with this reaction. Chemistry I guess. I am hoping that it reacts differently in time. If not, I can wear it but it seems like such a waste. Perhaps it will work on my daughter. Such a disappointment.

    TKO

“Many things -- such as loving, going to sleep, or behaving unaffectedly -- are done worst when we try hardest to do them.” I have a hard time falling asleep, so I bought a bottle. I am pretty much a skeptic, so I didn't expect much from it. Well, after 3-4 times using it at bedtime, I can honestly say, it does help you sleep. The only time it didn't work so far is when my head had racing thoughts. To its credit though, I didn't have to take an anti-anxiety pill. It kept me calm enough to get through the anxiety. Initially it smells like a soft lavender with a slight mint scent. The mint fades quickly and you get this lavender/vanilla blend that is really lovely. It's not candy sweet, but does smell like sugar. So I guess vanilla marshmallow is about right. It has a strong throw so a little goes a long way. My default bedtime scent.
  14. Maybe it's just me or the nature of the oils(not enough throw), but I am not finding that many people comment on what I am wearing. Most of the women I work with wear traditional perfumes from department stores. And when I wear my Burberry or Bvlgari perfume, I do find people will say I smell good. I am beginning to think that maybe they don't like how I smell (and are politely not commenting) or they just don't smell it. Maybe I am not putting on enough. The only BPAL that so far has gotten positive attention is Antique Lace. I am waiting for someone to say "what is that you are wearing?", but so far nothing. I am so excited about BPAL that I would love to introduce them to the oils. Could it be their noses only pick up deparment store perfume scents? Well, I am wondering what BPAL scents get you compliments??? Thanks, Denise

The scents that get you the most compliments?

Since starting this thread some months ago, it's comforting to see many have the same insecurity about telling people what you are wearing. I was shopping in Trader Joe's and the woman behind the counter asked me what I was wearing. I swear I flinched thinking she thought I smelled awful. I was so happy when she said I smelled great. I was wearing Chrysanthemum Moon at the time. Then one day at work the same thing happened and I again responded with the same fear. This time it was Red Moon. Both women were in their 50's so I take them both as good compliments from people who probably would be reluctant to try oils. I wear Snake Oil frequently and really don't care what other's think because it is so comforting to me. And to think I hated it 7 months ago.

    Shub-Niggurath

I am so glad I decided to try this. I read a review of Chimera, which prompted me to buy an imp. This is so so good. Very similar to Gingerbread Poppet, but a bit warmer and creamier. It's not as sharp in the wet stage, but seems to have more lasting power than GP. This is definitely a keeper and even though I promised myself not to buy anything else...I will make an exception for this. This is one of the first BPAL's that I instantly fell in love with. I love the smell of gingerbread and this is just perfect!

    Thirteen (13): June 2008

My first "13" This was an impulse buy for me...also a reason to order some imps I had been wanting to get. I hit the "order now" button with 15 minutes to go. I have to say I feared it would be like Red Lantern or The Candy Butcher on me. Smells sweet chocolate caramel in the bottle. I am already fearing the worst. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that once on, it's not overpowering. Not milk chocolate like Bliss, or too chocolate sandlewood like Velvet. It's a nice blend of a dry dark chocolate and caramel. I don't detect any honeysuckle or apple like others have, but then my nose isn't as trained as some people's. I can see where some can pick out the tea and sandlewood, but it stays in the background. I think that's what holds it back from being too foody or overpowering. I am not particularly a food person but I can see wearing this from time to time. Red Lantern was way too strong on me..too much caramel. I thought that was it for wearing anything with caramel, but this has changed my thoughts on that. This has good lasting power so far and I only touched the top with a toothpick to apply. I am not sure whether I sill keep it, but it is nice, lightly sweet and mellow. I tried on both Gluttony and "13" and asked my husband for his comments. He hated Gluttony and really liked "13". Those who feared the honeysuckle, don't. Those who hate foody scents..you will be surprised. This is a nice balance.

    Gluttony

I have been curious about this, so I finally ordered an imp of it. At first it seems very strong, almost overpowering. That only lasts for a very short time and what is left in the drydown is a chocolaty, caramel scent with cinnamon and a touch of smoke. I can see where some people smell gingerbread. Not as sweet as I feared, and that is good. However, my husband didn't really like it and prefers the new Thirteen 08. I will definitely keep my imp for those PMS times.

    Vixen

I have to agree with the person who said this is alot like Snake Oil on me. In fact, it's closer to Snake Charmer than anything else. The only difference I can tell is that there is less incense in Vixen. Pretty much identical on me. I have weird chemistry, but in this case, it's a blessing!
  20. Scanmike

    Chimera

I like this one. It reminds me a bit of Port-A-Prince but with lasting power. It has just the right amount of cinnamon and then the amber-like scent comes in. I don't smell any honeysuckle, but maybe that adds the sweetness. After 2 hours the cinnamon seems to go away and a creamy amber scent remains. Not sure if it's bottle worthy since I liked the beginning notes of cinnamon better than the end.

    Black Lace

I know I shouldn't..but I had to try Black Lace even if I feel nauseous tonight.I am taking a risk, I know. Oh dear...smells like tobacco, which makes me sick, but I never tried anything with that note in it. I am a bit worried. I should have listened to my gut feeling about tobacco. Later, no cognac, fading tobacco, smoky incense and a faint sweetness coming in. About 1 hour later...the tobacco is still there as is the incense, but I can deal with this. Two hours later- AHH! this is what everyone is talking about. A very sexy scent. I can smell the Antique Lace in it but it doesn't have that odd note which bothers me. I guess the incense balances it. I know everyone loves Antique Lace on me, but it's not my favorite. I like this one so much better. More sophisticated, sexy and complex. . I must try this again when I am not sick. This may be a winner!!!

    Black Opal

On me Black Opal is a much lighter Antique Lace. It has that same "off putting" (like old ladies perfume) not that sometimes bothers me, and I guess today is one of those days. Not what I expected from all the reviews.

    Monster Bait: Tokyo Stomp

I just realized I don't even smell any of the BPAL scents in the bottle because very few smell like they do when you wear them. This is Thin Mints, cool and crisp chocolate with mint! As it dried it took on a note that I didn't like..sort of a stale mint oreo cookie. Now about 2 hours later it morphed again. The vanilla must have come out and the chocolate has disappeared. The Girl Scouts should wear this when they go around selling cookies! Very yummy and very foody. Not sure I would wear it, but it is delicious.

    Fae

I don't get any lemon or tea in this. Starts off as a fresh peach scent, with a bit of tartness. I wish it would stay this way. On dry down seems very sweet, a bit cloying to me now. Almost smells like Snapple Peach Iced Tea or a candle. This was the second time I tried it. Last night it seemed fresher and less cloying. I might have just overdosed on scents today, which always makes me sick to the stomach. As compared to Tamora: Tamora has a bit of cinnamon spice in the initial phase, then dries down to a warm amber scent, with the tiniest hint of peach. Where Fae is all peach (as in the fruit), Tamora is the blossom with alot of amber. This smells alot like Burberry Classic.

    Bliss

I finally got an imp of Bliss. I am not usually someone who likes to wear foody scents, but I do love the smell of a good candle that makes my mouth water. Chocolate can really smell bad and artificial, so I was skeptical about this. Well, OMG! what a true luscious milk chocolate scent. It like you smeared a good quality chocolate bar on your arm. And it lasted through the night. I could still catch a whiff in the morning. Even if I only wear it on those PMS hormonal days, or when I an under stress, I have to get a bottle. It's that good.
