    Cheshire Moon 2013

YES! Right on the money. I loved the original Cheshire Moon, and hoarded it like Precious. The past incarnation was like...well, it reminded me of eating vanilla cake laced with pink and citrus fruits while sitting on a tropical beach. No way to explain that really But it was a delectable blend of both creaminess, pink florals and tart fruit. It was just wonderful. Not only that, but it never once morphed on my skin. This version, though, has gone to straight-up, overpowering "soap" on me :/ Even in the bottle it has a pungent quality. I was so disappointed.

    Gods of Intercourse

Smells so fresh, peachy and like glowing skin, that kind of innocent sexuality of ripeness. And it all goes very well in the bottle, but I think the gardenia makes it too heady overall.

The Second of the Three Spirits

This smells SO good in the bottle. A perfect blend of cool evergreen juxtaposed with spicy pastries, then the slightly cold bitterness of bayberry. On my skin...it gets weird. Not bad, per se, but just different. It smells like resinous, smoky incense. Definitely a GOOD smell, but not for me to wear. Ebay!

    Rosy Maple

I just realized why this is SO nostalgic & wistful for me! It smells exactly like Strawberry Shortcake dolls, the ones from the 80s. Especially the Cherry Cuddler doll! It's all pink and sweet, but not so sweet that it makes me feel sick at my stomach. It's sweet as in light girly fruits, roses, MASSES of sweet pea, light berry, and that tiny smidge of lemon blossom. I've had this since last year & have only tested it once, but I'm keeping it! Wasn't too crazy about it at first, but I guess because I couldn't pinpoint what memory it evoked. Now...it's a keeper. Plus, I always love seeing the Rosy Maple moths. Love them.

Chocolate. Chocolate chocolate chocolate. All chocolate. Chocolate that gets sour on my skin and no other notes BUT chocolate. So very disappointed :'(

    Luna

I LOVE this scent, but it's going icky-powdery on me...so I'm keeping it for a few more weeks to see how it does if/when my chemistry settles down. In the bottle, though, it smells predominantly like a cool lime drink with a bit of herbal & meadow notes, & some wet flowers. I really like it, but I kind of wish the Lab hadn't used the sugar notes in the Metamorphosis blends :/ Instead of sugar, I think a "mothy" smell should be at the opposite end of the "sparkle" spectrum, less sweet & more dry & celestial. Still, it's pretty & I'll give it another go. I guess Monarch is off to ebay, despite my wanting to keep it for the bottle art alone! Damn, the Luna bottle is just outright beautiful, too.

    Twinkle, Twinkle Little Bat

Oy. I ordered this, prepared to love it. In the bottle, it smelled exactly as described......unfortunately, it smelled like all those lovely notes....mashed into a bar of soap. On my skin, it smelled of soap. Not a bad smell, but definitely not fragrant. Just soap. Then it dried & clashed with my chemistry & became a sour nightmare. Think old soap in a mildewy dish. I'm willing to give this one another try because I loved the idea of it, and because I think it has potential...if my skin doesn't murder it again.
  8. Oooh oohh! I didn't think about it, since I only tried Ultrabland a few weeks ago as a freebie I got.... The creamy, smooth, light beeswax garden scent of Ultrabland is totally reminding me of To Helen....might give that a try if you can find it! It's a bit more floral but OMG it is gorgeous. They really are very similar.

The search for the perfect Violet....

The sad little dog violets that grow in the woods behind my house have no scent, so I had never smelled violet until maybe 3 or 4 years ago. It was exactly as I'd always imagined it would be, and sparked some memory I can't quite put my finger on. I had always heard it was an old-fashioned scent that used to be really big in old-timey perfumes until its popularity waned. So I was always afraid that despite my hopes, it would be that "matronly" smell. Instead, it is velvety; you really hit it w/ that description. But a cool velvet, and it's a young, effervescent scent that is both wet & cool & light and at the same time dark purple & deep.
  10. If you like the honey-herbal combo, you seriously owe it to yourself to get a sniff of Honey Lumps (Retro ballistic) and Flying Saucers (Retro shower gel and bubble bath). These are my absolute favorite Lush products ever - I am beyond thrilled that Lush NA is selling them now. They remind me a lot of BPAL's Honey Moon from 2005, which to my nose was more herbal than Mead Moon and is probably my favorite BPAL honey scent mmmm... Mange Too, I haven't used one in a while, massage bars don't get pulled out much in the summer around here but now you have me craving one! Who cares if it makes me a little greasy for this time of year Darn you! I was just waiting for an excuse to try some of the Retro stuff, especially Honey Lumps. Curses, you villain! Now I must place a Lush order And thank God for massage bars. Now that I'm single & have no poor fool to massage my back, I still love to use 'em instead of lotion sometimes. Gooooood stuff.
  11. Mead Moon. Let me just say DELICIOUS. And goes well w/ Lush's honey scents, i.e. HIWTK soap & solid perfume, Honey Bee bath bomb, and both Mange Too & Soft C'oeur massage bars. Not an exact match, but a wonderful compliment. Mead Moon is a little more herbal; I also like to use it with lavender scents b/c the honey/herbal combo reminds me of a medieval or Rennaissance English garden with a golden beehive nestled in a bower Nice to put on a thin moisture veil of Lush's Therapy (lavender, chamomile) massage bar & then dab on Mead Moon. Beautiful together!!!

The search for the perfect Violet....

AMG. Nocturne. Beautiful, fair Nocturne. The lilac & tuberose notes in this don't overpower the violet, they just give it an ethereal quality (an effect lilac has always had on me...sigh...lovely); you can pick them out as single notes only with a bit of effort. Overall, this was the most beautiful violet scent...in the bottle. And probably smells divine on normal people. On me, it went sour More power to those on whom Nocturne works, because if it smelled on me like it smells in the bottle, I would buy it in bulk. Beautiful blend, deep purple violet with just the right about of tuberose to lend a softness, just enough lilac to make it shimmer faintly. Overall, a great violet scent. Gorgeous.

    L'Heure Verte

Wow, everybody else gets rose out of this...what's wrong with me? LOL A small, gaslit Victorian parlor. Sprigs of lilac & mint bundled into a thin emerald vase, in which is tucked a stick of slowly-burning incense, beside a crystal flute of pale green absinthe. It's like lilac-mint in 2 forms: burned as incense, or misted with absinthe. Green, pale lilac, & cool brown. Beautiful, which is probably why I bought 4 bottles Decent throw, too, and lasts a long time. ADDED July 8: Angelfish, don't envy my sniffer; sometimes it likes to play tricks on me Seriously! I mean, I may get a smidgeony hint of rose in this one, but only as a mild floral backdrop. Mostly minty lilac on me. And yet other blends may smell entirely different than what they really are. Weird LOL L'Heure Verte was just one of those rare surprises for me that I was like, "okay, open this bottle, not really looking forward to it, ordered it on a whim, WOW, AMAZING!" Wish you got better results with it; everybody's different though. I personally hate when absolutely lovely stuff just goes moronic on my skin

    Mead Moon

I am so glad I got 2 bottles...now I just wish I had more :/ My first experience with mead was 11 years ago, when I was 17, at the Scarborough Faire Rennaissance faire in Waxahachie, TX; my mom gave me a taste & when I opened my bottle of Mead Moon, it was that instant scent/memory recognition: Golden honey mead, summery & bright, sparkling, illuminated in a translucent earthen mug by morning sun. Women in brocade gowns of muted earthtones, sapphires, plums, roses, scarlets, sages, dance around a Maypole or sit in cool shade; men in supple, worn leathers laugh, boast, listening to the woodsy song of a dulcimer. Somewhere, I hear the gypsies dancing to the deep pulse of a doumbek, the bells on their ankles tinkling like a fountain over river rocks. As I take a deep drink from the mug, smooth cinnamon, gingerroot, clove and honey instill me with the euphoric warmth of a medieval, summer morning, and I close my eyes, lean back, rest against the oak, & breathe in the world around me. This is my Mead Moon I love to use either L'Occitane Honey massage milk, Lush Mange Too massage bar or Lush Nutts massage bar to moisturize with before I slather this on...all those scents blend beautifull with this. Oh, and did I mention this lasts for-freakin'-ever???

The search for the perfect Violet....

As I'm still new to BPAL, and since there are trillions of scents to try, and since I am barely above the poverty line & it's highly unlikely I'll ever be able to try all BPALs, I have only tried 3 scents that include violet (although it is an all-time favorite scent of mine, and far too hard to find). Here's my impression thus far. Saturnalia - My first order. Not keen on vetiver, at all. This scent, at first, is far too smoky for my taste. But I keep an open mind, and tried it on my own skin before making a snap-judgment. Right after the initial wet stage, the vetiver seems to dry into a dampish leaf scent, honestly hinting at a gorgeous scent-image of dewy, early spring violets poking through cool earth & musty leaves. NOT a bad thing, at all! Beautiful. The violet is true, and pure, and adds a clear bright top to the earthy vetiver. Really nice! Not at all the gritty, smoky worrier it starts off as. Farewell to False Love - I could pick out the violet in this as a distinct note, although mostly as a co-top note w/ bright narcissus above that lovely, herbally lavender & balsam of Peru base. It went GACK on my skin, though, & it was off to eBay Wish it had worked; smelled great in the bottle. Ultraviolet - Got as an imp (correct term? I think? a free sample LOL) w/ my first order. Was a little apprehensive at first, because although I could smell the violet for sure, the eucalyptus was kind of pungent & overpowering. Got it on my skin, and love it. A wonderful TRUE violet, bright purple & shimmering, leant a silvery, sharp shimmer by the mint. Really just nice, cool, and refreshing. It's like violet...only crisper, cooler, fresher. Can't wait to try MANY others

    Moana

Gorgeous! Hawaiian white ginger, white & soft & delicately sweet, swirled on a lazy current of faintly salty seafoam. Mildly aquatic, adding a crisp, cool silver shimmer to the already celestial white ginger. The perfect blend of cool & sparkly with creamy white flower. Unfortunately, turns to crap on my skin. Beautiful, though, and I wish it worked on me :/

    To Helen

To Helen has a dusky kind of elegance; the colors I associate it with are dusky pastels, like a dusty lavender & a pale tearose. At first, I smell roses, not bright red roses, but pale classic roses, dewy and soft. The moonflower is almost an afterthought, but the ozone touches the top of this fragrance very subtly. This would be a very chilly, moist scent, but the beeswax & amber lend a warmer, creamier element that keep it from being too sharp. This scent is perfectly balanced! It reminds me of a garden full of pale flowers, lit by a full moon, and laced with dew, but on a spring night when the warmth of the air lends a golden tinge to the cool silver of the atmosphere. Just gorgeous. I bought another bottle

    A Farewell to False Love

Turned sharp & bitter on me, but....I never give up! Lemme try it again before I write a review Because it smells so good in the bottle.

    Saturnalia

This is one scent that was in my first order. Okay, I was mixed about it when I first smelled it from the bottle. It smells of smoke, like campfire smoke, at first. I wasn't keen on it at all, but I dabbed it on anyway. Okay, so it continues to smell smoky for the first 15 minutes or so. After that.... LOVELY! The vetiver dries down into a damp, earthy scent, which complements the violet wonderfully. On drydown, the violet becomes the predominent note, touched by that terrestrial tone of vetiver, like wood violets in damp leaves, under a cloudy, rainy sky. It's not warm, but it's not cold either; it's just that perfect pitch of spring violets in a damp forest.

    Ultraviolet

In the imp, I smell nothing but minty eucalyptus. On skin, it becomes a violet touched by wintry cold. It's the truest violet I've found for my chemistry! Beautiful. It's a bit hard at first, but really softens up. Like I said, not too crazy about it at first, but it truly warms up just enough to not be so minty. The violet comes through, keeping it grounded & from being too abstract. I'll be buying a bottle

The Passionate Shepherd To His Love

First sniff, a pale pink tearose, blooming in a green field of wild, delicate beauty. This reminds me of moors or the wild, dewy fields in southern England, where tender roses bloom in hedges surrounded by lush, herbal fields. It takes the faintest spicy turn with the carnation, but to me it's like fragile dianthus flowers poking up through sweet clover blossoms. A botanical floral, green on the bottom, with a touch of spicy & dew on the top. Good throw & staying power. Initially, it reminded me, ever so slightly, of Rose Red, but it must be the greeny-carnation scent I get from Rose Red. Doesn't smell the same, perse, just reminds me of it. I LOVE IT. ADDED Feb. 19: YES! It reminds me of a spring rain over medieval English fields.....so rain is perfect for this scent!!!

    Parlement of Foules

Absolutely lovely. It's not as powdery as I imagined it would be, although there is a soft powdery hint. I definitely see a dimly lit cathedral, a gentle rainshower falling outside. Pious prayer, swinging censers, holy chants, ladies & noblemen in rustling brocade, their hair adorned with white rosebuds. This is a true white rose with a soft, woodsy resin incense. On me, it takes a slightly powdery turn, though only faintly. Strangely enough, it gets a delicately sharp sweetness to it, but the soft rose & earth resin keep it calm and smooth. A truly gorgeous scent!

    Noche Buena

Noche Buena irritates me because I can't describe it. Mainly, it gives me a mental picture: a tropical abstract of deep purple, hot pink, lemon yellow, grass green, small splashes of turquoise, and a big abstract tiger lily right in the middle. It also irritates me because I feel bad for not wanting to keep it. It smells gorgeous, and smells pretty decent on my skin, but...I don't know; I just don't think it's "me". But I'll do my best to describe it, even if I can't pick out the individual notes: weedy floral (not in a bad way), kind of like flowers that aren't meant for their fragrance, even if they don't smell bad, i.e. tiger lilies, marigolds, tulips, etc. does that make any kind of sense? Stems still attached for a slight undertone of green. Sprinkled with a hefty dose of spices. I guess another image, more concrete, is of a bed of bright, mixed non-fragrant flowers stirred up & slightly mashed by a tropical rain, petals splashed with the spicy soil that's been stirred up. Retarded, yes, but like I said, this one was hard for me to describe! A little too complex and "warm" for my taste. Sadly, though I like it, it just doesn't really "fit" me.

    Snow White

I just got my second bottle of Snow White in the mail today & wondered if there might be any differences in the batch; nope! Still the same. Actual scent: A center of pale flowers, like maybe a white rose, but dusted with confectioners' sugar, with a soft edge of chilly snow. What it reminds me of: not a harsh winter day, but a cozy winter day where the snow is mild, the sky is overcast, the atmosphere is hazy and muted instead of sharp. You know those snowy days that just seem to peaceful and actually cozy? That's what this reminds me of. I wore sky blue & creamy tan today just to go with this scent (because I am a geek). I got so many compliments today at work; my Godforsaken hair was so static after filling the ATM that in an act of desperation & experimentation, I rubbed a few drops of Snow White on my palms & ran it across my long, straight hair. When my boyfriend came to eat lunch with me, before leaving, he buried his head in my hair and sighed

Could someone list all of the pirate scents?

Ooh, I have to thank Portalkat for pointing me in this direction! This is exactly what I was looking for...I agree with the previous comment that BPAL should have an entire section for pirates, since there are several pirate, Caribbean, or ocean-themed blends.
