    Dionysia

In the imp: A little bit fruity, a little bit...chocolate-y? I think the wood notes are pretending to be chocolate. On me: Wow, this is really good! As it dries, the fruit, namely the plum, comes out and dominates the patchouli and other earthy notes. If you took Bordello and replaced the amaretto with patchouli, you would have Dionysia. Bordello is bright and sweet, Dionysia is juicy yet earthy. I'm not sure which I prefer, they're both good. If you like fruit scents that don't smell like candy, you'll love Dionysia.

    The Illustrated Woman

In the imp: This makes my nose tingle! Maybe it's that mysterious menthol clearing my nose? On me, there's a lot of pine, and it's blending quite a bit with the tobacco. This is pretty sexy, and I'm surprised by how much I like it; generally anything that's described as "sexy" or "dark" is nigh-offensive to my nose. I can't detect the honey at all, but I think I get a bit of the smoky vanilla mixed in with the tobacco and pine. It's still making my nose tingle a bit to smell it though! Hehe.

    Thirteen (13): June 2008

I've only tried one other 13 besides this one (I've also tried April 2007, which was way too herbal with pretty much no chocolate). In the imp: This smells almost...butterscotch-y O_o. Once on me, the butterscotch goes away, and I smell the same chocolate that I get from Candy Butcher; sinfully rich and sweet. There's also a hearty dose of apple, but it's still secondary to the chocolate. I'm liking this much more than I expected to, though the combination of chocolate and apple is a wee bit odd. As it dries, the apple becomes stronger and the chocolate recedes a bit. I'll use up the decant, but it's just not my thing.

    The Witch Queen

In the imp: Very strange O_o. It smells like plastic. I was expecting this to be somewhat sweet, but it's not sweet on me at all. There's a burst of incense smoke right at the beginning. That quickly fades, and it becomes more of a floral. I was hoping for a large dose of plum, but it's completely missing on my skin, and only the florals remain.

    Violet Ray

In the imp: Musky and purple. Quite pretty. This smells similar to Faith on me, but a bit less sweet and a bit more powdery. It's quite delicate, and VERY purple. It's quite floral, and I can't really smell the mint, but I think it's adding a hint of sharpness to the scent. Quite pretty, and perfect for those who love "purple" scents.

    Glowing Vulva at Ryogoku Bridge

Wet: Sharp wood Apparently teak amps on me in the wet stage, though once it dries on my skin, it almost completely vanishes. What's left is a lovely blend of cream and amber. It's quite faint though, so it doesn't warrant owning more than this lone imp for me.

    The Antikythera Mechanism

In the imp: Sweet, sharp wood. This sweetens up a bit after it's been on my skin for a while. It's about half vanilla and half teak. It's wonderful to sniff, but it's just a bit too masculine for me. This is an amazing scent though - very well blended, not too sweet, not too sharp, not too dark. It's a work of art. It seems like something I would wear when I need to be inspired.

    April Fool

In the imp: Very sharp; sort of a dark green smell. This is quite an interesting scent. I was hoping that it would be mostly huckleberry, but once on m skin it's mostly rose and lemon blossom. There's also a very sharp note in the background; I've never smelled anything like it, so I'm going to assume that it's the parsley. Interesting scent, but very not me.

    Lampades

In the imp: Powdery fruit There's a nice tartness to this, undoubtedly provided by the cranberry. The musk and spices dirty it up a bit and make it seem unlike a fruity smell, and more sophisticated. Alas, some red fruits have a kind of fake candy smell on me, and the cranberry in Lampades is doing just that.

    O

In the imp: Sweet amber I've tried O several times; in theory I should like it a lot. I love vanilla and honey, and I like amber well enough. But it's akin to baby powder on me, and I just am not a fan. I want the sexy honey-drenched scent that other people get!

    Grandmother of Ghosts

On me, this is a light, musky floral, especially the lily. Definitely an ethereal quality to it, but it's not really me.

    The Knave of Hearts

In the imp: Pastry! Smells very similar to Eat Me. On me, it continues to smell akin to Eat Me, except maybe a bit sweeter. Eat Me had a bit of an astringent quality to it on my skin. Once it dries, I get the rose underneath the pastry. It's as others have described, where you can smell the fruit pastry AND the rose at the same time, and it's a bit strange. Not sure I'm a fan.

    Worm Moon 2008

In the imp: Woody and sharp Once applied to my skin, the dirt comes out to play! Other reviews have already described this dirt note far more poetically than I have. It's totally accurate and wonderful to sniff. I still don't think I want to smell like it, but I love to smell it. BPAL has certainly opened me up to new ideas of wonderful smells.

    Night-Gaunt

In the imp: Grapefruit! It stays a tart grapefruit on my skin; wow, this is really true to the fruit. Unfortunately, grapefruit smells akin to B.O. on me. *sigh* To the "DO NOT WANT" bag with thee!

    Bonfire Night

In the imp: Sweet and smoky Wow, this is the ultimate autumn smell. (Of course, I say that every time I try a new blend from the Halloween updates, hehe). It's not a complicated scent - I get treacle in the foreground and smoke in the background. I'd love to use this as a room scent at a Halloween party, it is very evocative of that sort of scene.

    Black Opal

In the imp: Very faint, but what's there smells vaguely medicinal. I get a big blast of vanilla when I apply this to my skin, the same vanilla in Antique Lace. I don't like this though - it's AL with a horrible plastic note. The plastic overwhelms everything after a while. Stupid skin chemistry, I was really looking forward to this scent.

    La Belle au Bois Dormant

In the imp: A very light scent, both floral and fruity This is a very clean, light scent. It goes a bit soapy on me though, probably from the rose. It's pretty, and very appropriate for Sleeping Beauty, but not for me .

    Blue Fire

In the imp: Juicy blueberry with a hint of lemongrass. Wow, that blueberry note is divine. Sadly, when it hits my skin, the lemongrass decides that it has been a secondary note for far too long and beats the blueberry into submission. I now have Lemongrass SN on my arm; with maybe a hint of gin sharpening it up a bit. *wails* Come back, blueberry! I miss you!

    Screeching Parrot

This turned to Grapefruit SN on me. Why, grapefruit, why? I would have been ecstatic with Pink Lime SN or with Apricot SN, but no, I get grapefruit, which smells exactly like B.O. on me. Stupid skin chemistry, the point of perfume is to smell like the opposite of B.O.

    Upa Upa

In the imp: Creamy rummy pineapple This smells quite similar to Rangoon Riptide to me, if only because I swear that the rum in Rangoon Riptide is coconut rum. Upa Upa is a bit creamier, and it borrowed a few of the spices from Te Po. The pineapple is also very subdued here - it definitely takes a backseat to the spicy coconut. This is the PERFECT scent to wear to the beach, but I don't see myself wearing it too much outside of that.
  21. sprocket21

    Rangoon Riptide

In the imp: VERY sweet pineapple. Aaaand I managed to apply it to my nose, bah! On me, the rum quickly comes out to play with the pineapple. And I SWEAR it's a coconut rum; there's a hint of that undeniable creamy coconut in this. There's a bit of mandarin orange in the background, but otherwise it's all pineapple and (coconut) rum. This is making me want a rum and coke with a big wedge of pineapple on it. I don't think the pineapple note is for me, but for those who do like it, this is a fun summery scent that makes you want to party.
  22. sprocket21

    Te Po

In the imp: *gets bowled over* WOW this is strong! It reminds me of the cherry syrup they use in shaved ices or italian soda. Delicious! Once applied, it calms down a bit, and the cherry becomes sort of spicy. As it dries, the spices take over more and more; now I can totally see where others are coming from with the church incense/Christmas comparisons. While I like both the cherry and the Christmas stages, I didn't fall madly in love with either one.

    Golden Wave

In the imp: Light Citrus The gin and guava come out to play once I apply this to my skin. There's definitely some tangerine in there too, but unfortunately, tangerine is not a good note for me - on my skin, it turns into something not unlike B.O. It's a fantastic summer scent though, and perfect for a tiki party. Even though it's inspired by a fruity cocktail, it's not super-sweet. If only the tangerine would behave...

    Slippery Poppy Tincture

Poppy flowers, acai berry, and honey. In the imp: HAI THERE ACAI! This is a VERY crisp scent. It's tart, but not too sweet. I actually get kind of an apple vibe from it, probably because it's a very red, crisp scent. I wasn't too familiar with acai before trying this; it reminds me of pomegranate, but better. As it dries, the scent becomes a bit more complex - I think that's the poppy in the background. It also gets a tad bit sweeter, but it's still mostly tart and crisp acai berry. I think this may be my favorite of the Pharmacopoeia! It's great when you want to wear a fruity scent that's not sweet. Edited to add description.

    Stimulating Sassafras Strengthener

In the imp: Root beer and cream! Wow, this is a lot creamier than I expected it to be - almost like cream soda with an aftertaste of root beer. And call me crazy, but the creamy note here totally reminds me of Glowing Vulva, only with root beer instead of teak. It's a very fun scent, but scents that are too creamy tend to make me feel a bit ill. This one was so creamy that it even made my boyfriend ill, and he's one of those "all perfumes smell alike" types.
