    Snow White

Mmm, I've finally got my own bottle of Snow White! I'd tried a decant of the '05 version and was in love, but I was afraid I wouldn't get the same glorious scent from a new bottle. I happily get the same beautiful cherryblossom/vanilla/snow/greenery scent I adore. With a few weeks of aging it should be utterly perfect. This will most likely be the scent I'll be wearing for my wedding in May.

Who do I email with questions? BPAL/BPTP contact info

I just emailed the lab because along with my order, I got a second package with an Earth Ox, a Miller vs. California, 4 frimps and a postcard. Which is cool, but it's clearly someone else's order, so I wanted to bring it to their attention. I wonder if they'll take them back, or just let me keep them and send out new ones.

    Rose Red

Ok wow, if you take the most perfect garden of red roses and cram the whole thing into a bottle, then sprinkle some love and kisses on top, you get Rose Red. Seriously, this is the whole shebang: vivid red roses, stems, leaves, even the surrounding grass, soil, and a bit of rain! I felt like some mythical being wearing it, because this is not how a person wearing perfume smells. It's a masterpiece, how does Beth DO this!?

    Snake Charmer

Oh GOD this is gorgeous! Mmm, it's dark, incensy, spicy, fruity and sweet. It's deliciously decadent and drop dead sexy. It's making me really wish that this bottle didn't get to me on day 1 of my guy's week-long business trip.
  5. Gennivre!!!! Sigh. I can't really wear it any other time of the year, because it actually makes me feel too blissfully summer-day lazy! It's just the most beautiful mellow summer's day in a bottle, I can't recommend it enough!
  6. I've had some good reactions to Hellcat from my fiance, which isn't so surprising, but the one that really gets him, bizarrely enough, is Mouse's Long and Sad Tale! He's not really one to go nuts for a scent, and he's hated vanilla as long as I can remember due to his sister's overuse of Vanilla Fields and such, so I was floored when the Mouse got such a response! He's been happily huffing me while I'm wearing Snake Oil too lately! I'm hellbent on getting him over this unnatural vanilla aversion by wearing lots of *good* vanilla, and it's working! My next order will include bottles of Snake Charmer, Snake Oil, and if he's very good, Mouse's Long and Sad Tale. Oh and on the flipside, I've discovered Dee is a completely jump-his-bones-ROWR scent on a guy, and a big bottle of that will be joining us too!

    Sleepytime BPAL

I find Morocco and Fairy Market to be beautiful sleep scents. I think Fairy Market would be really nice for little ones too.

    Le Serpent Qui Danse

Mmm, beautiful creamy vanilla and sweet violets. This could be a great substitute for Faith when I run out of it!

    Two, Five & Seven

This is an odd scent... I'm a complete rosaholic, but I can't do this one. At a sniff, I get rose with an odd fruity undertone, like a rose-flavored jellybean would have. Sometimes I can't smell the rose at all! I think I'm going to blame the fruity weirdness on the "wine rose", and will avoid it in the future. Thank goodness I discovered the glorious Rose Cross in the same pack of imps, or I'd be crushed through rose sadness!

    Athens

Sigh, this was such a delicious honey in the imp and first on, but for some reason it turns into the smell of singed cotton on me! Too bad.

    Rose Cross

I love roses and I love Rose Cross! The rose and frankincense mingle beautifully together to make a cloud of the most perfect rich and sweet rose incense. It's both grounding and uplifting, and would be a great go-to scent when I want to feel calm and in control, but still sharp. There's a bottle of this in my future!

What do bottles and labels look like?

Oh Rose Red is sweet, I like it! Thanks for posting pics!

What do bottles and labels look like?

Ah, I get it, Snow White's label is the blood on the snow that inspired her name! Pretty, I wonder what Rose Red's label is like.

    Scent for Halloween?

I'm wearing Samhain today... I have to! It's my first holiday where I have the appropriate BPAL to wear!

    Give me caramel!

    Grog definitely. It's pure butterscotch!

    Bon Vivant

Heh, it's funny, like Obsidienne, I got my imp of Bon Vivant from the super-wonderful Undream! I wasn't expecting anything really from this, but as a hardcore lover of Arbor Mist strawberry white wine, I had to give it a shot. I'm sooo happy I did. It's...bubbly! Fun and bubbly! It's real, fresh sweet strawberries and effervescent champagne sparkling in the sun! I love it, I may actually want a bottle before Spring comes around. Champagne and strawberries, who knew!?

    The Lady of Shalott

This just about broke my heart! I've always been in love with the imagery of the poem, and the poem itself- I love the paintings, the Loreena McKennitt song, heck I even had a couch-sized Waterhouse print in my living room until it pretty much disintegrated from moving from house to house! I was so hoping this would work on me, and it almost did! The initial wet stage was a gorgeous watery sweet white floral: I squee-d a bit! Then it all went horribly, horribly wrong... I smelled like a dentist's office!!!!! You know that sickly sterile smell when you walk past a dentist's office in a mall? Yeah, that's what was on my wrists. Oh the humanity.

    Snake Oil

I got an imp of Snake Oil in a very generous swap (much love for Undream!!! ), and the first thing I thought when I sniffed it in the vial was "huh!?". It smelled weirdly dirty and stale! But trusting in the wisdom of more learned BPALers than I, I slathered on a goodly amount and waited. I waited for about 30 seconds. Then the dirty stale stuff on my skin performed a transformation sequence worthy of Sailor Moon and became an intoxicating spicy-musky-smoky-dark-sinful-vanilla! Oh yeah, Snake Oil and I are going to have a long, passionate future together! I'm just mad my fiance is sick right now and can't smell me!
  20. I recently layered Melisande and Athens, and it was in the Flying Fox / Youki-hi / Godiva ballpark. I'm thinking a honey-intensive blend layered with a jasmine-heavy scent is the way to go, though BPAL jasmine and LUSH jasmine seem pretty different. Something dark and smoky or some ylang-ylang in the background of one of the components would be a plus... can you tell I'm experimenting? lol

BPAL Patchouli - there's nothing else like it

Hehe, hi Paperrose (AKA "She who brings the awesome recs") You always seem to point me to things I've never thought of, as well as reminding me I have a frimp of something- In this case Tezcatlipoca! As soon as he gets home, he's slathered! I tried it on myself and it was all flowers, but maybe he'll hit different notes. I have to check out the rest of these too. Our wedding is drawing nigh and it occurs to me I'll have a much better time if he smells amazing!

BPAL Patchouli - there's nothing else like it

Okay, so I just discovered through Lush's shower gels (suspected in Tramp, confirmed in Blue Skies) that patchouli on my fiance is like naughty evil catnip to me, and I want to douse him in it. Any suggestions for yummy guy-friendly patchouli scents? Pretty please?

    Samhain

Samhain 08 I couldn't wait to try this, I was born on Halloween night so I really wanted it to work for me... Oh my gosh, it's Halloween in a bottle! It starts out feeling very dark and cold, and different facets reveal themselves during drydown. The cold note mellows, and the high scent of Autumn leaves take over. Sweet apples (maybe pumpkin as well, I'm not so good at picking it out) and a dash of patchouli come out to play. Sweetish tangy smoke and spices swirl through the whole thing. Then the scent gradually changes and notes switch places and intensities: the warmer notes are in the forefront, and the cool smokey air plays backup. The leaves are always present, and breathtaking. It's like a journey- like walking through a crisp Halloween night, and ending up on your cozy front porch with your treats. Unbelievably beautiful, I love it beyond words! But seriously, it's a story in a bottle! How does she do this!?

    Aquatics

Oh no, by all means weigh in, I'm completely lost with this kind of scent! Sunrise with Sea Monsters sounds like a possibility, and so does Olokun! Lol, the description definitely did not put me off, it sounds great. Jolly Roger was already on my list for my fiance, but that doesn't mean I can't dip into it to try! Lightning sounds more likely than Tempest, I'm trying to avoid the overly fresh dryer-sheet ones... I'm listing all of these to figure out orders for imps/decants when I have the cash. Thank you so much!

    Aquatics

Singing Moon: It's a LE, but I see it around the forums fairly frequently and it perfectly captures a sort of damp, bonfire night touched by salt air feeling. It starts out really woodsy but the salty drydown is amazing. From the GC, Dragon's Tears might be a good bet. To my nose it smells like White Rock beach near Vancouver at low tide. I grew up landlocked so I mostly find it perplexing but I could easily see it being comforting if you're used to the salt air smell. Cthulhu from Picnic in Arkham is a dark, mossy aquatic. R'lyeh is a bit brighter with some citrus. And finally, The Isle of Demons might bring you a bit closer to home. It's more gritty, musky and tropical than Singing Moon. But it is available from the GC so that's always awesome. See now, this is why it pays to ask! Thank you so much for the recs, and the thoughtfulness, I've never even noticed Isle of Demons! I also completely forgot I have an imp of Cthulhu, which I washed off quickly because it seemed too fresh and cologney back when I first tried it. I'm giving it a better shot now and I think it's starting to darken and get saltier. Anyways, it's helping. But Singing Moon sounds so very home-in-a-bottle, I have to try and track some down! Would you happen to have any thoughts on Tempest or Lightning? Thank you again for the fantastic input!
