Winter 2008-2009 Switch Witch Questions!

What are 3 places that you'd like to visit, or re-visit? I'd love to go to Egypt and England and revisit Ireland (I was 10 when I went and was more interested in playing Intellivision with my cousins than seeing the sights.   Literary erotica. Who doesn't love it? Not for me, thanks.   Are you planning on buying anything off your BPAL wishlist during the round? Not really, unless I see a blinking sale sign that says, "PUMPKIN KING- $3!"   Do you read graphic novels/comics? Which ones? I've never gotten into them, although I haven't really had the opportunity. I don't really like Manga though.   Which witches would want Bpal boxes? Or imp cases? I'm ok I think.   How about a short - or longer - piece of fanfic? No thanks.   Would you like handmade piece of calligraphy as a gift? Hmm- maybe?   What cartoons did you grow up watching? Any animated shows you still watch? She-Ra, He-man, The Littles, Garfield, You Can't Do That On Television (not a cartoon, but in the same vein). Later: Ren and Stimpy, Pinky and the Brain, Histeria. Recent cartoons I love- Avatar.   What jewelry are you wearing now? What jewelry do you wear everyday-or do you change jewelry all the time? Right now nothing, I'm lazing around in my hoodie and pajama pants, but the only jewelry I wear every day without variation is my watch and my wedding ring, everything else- earrings, bracelets, necklaces, change with the day.   Houseplants and/or things to put them inI love them, but I don't have any right now because they're all dead. I have all kinds of pots for them though...   Do you like baskets, jars and other interesting containers? Filled or Empty? Yes.     Question: do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips?   I cook, but more as a means to an end. I like to eat. I kind of wish I had my own personal chef and maid. Sigh!   Speaking of which, how many Browncoat witches do we have?? And if you are, would you be interested in getting a Kaylee parasol? If not, would you be interested in getting a paper parasol hand painted with your favorite colors?   I love Firefly, but don't think I'd really have a place for a parasol in our little condo.   Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail? I don't think so, we might go somewhere for a couple days on our anniversary (Jan 24- 10 years!), but that would be the only thing. It wouldn't hugely matter though if we weren't home since anything delivered would be safe inside our common area.     It's cold outside - what are your favorite drinks to keep yourself warm and cozy? Mmmmm- anything warm! Tea (I'm a tea fiend), coffee, cider... I'm also thinking of making some different hot beverages this year- wassail, etc. If my Witchie has any recipes for those I'd appreciate it (with or without alcohol is fine).   Would my potential Witchee be up for some music stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words? Sure, especially if it's something in a style I like.   What kind of candy/sweet treat would you like to receive? Anything without dairy, I especially have a yen for fruitcake and Turkish Delight.   Would you personally rather get handmade jewelry or the beads to make something yourself?   I would prefer the end result, since I don't really make jewelry.     What Winter Holiday do celebrate? Christmas. I also am looking forward to the Solstice though (not in a religious way, but I desperately want to days to be longer).   Do any of you like puzzle books? I've never really played with them.     Are there any other forums that you frequent?   The only other one I'm on is The Long Hair Community, and there, as everywhere, I'm Arylkin (actually, I'm pretty certain I'm the only Arylkin there ever was, so if you google "Arylkin" there are tons of results (I'm not sure how I feel about that, but c'est la vie)...   Question for future witchee: Would you like to receive ATCs or would you prefer something more usable, like bookmarks or something?   I have never had an ATC, but they are playing card size, right? I'm thinking they'd be the perfect size for paperback bookmarks (as long as they're flat).     Since we're talking about warm winter wearables, who likes hats? Mittens? Arm warmers?   Me please! I've actually been looking for a beret hat type thing that I can wear while my hair is in a bun/updo if some sort.   Who would like a pair of handknit socks? Size? Color preference? Cabled, ribbed (for your pleasure), stranded colorwork, etc.? Oooooh- I would LOVE one!!   If your witch were to send you cookies, what kind of cookies would you like?   I've actually never had gingerbread cookies- they sound kind of delicious... Really anything as long as there's no dairy (or chicken feet or something), although I'm not a huge fan of chocolate.   Who likes tshirts? What about homemade tshirts? Like with transfers I made myself....   That would be kind of amazing!   Another question! How does everyone feel about steampunk? (It's my new obsession, so I thought I'd ask.)   I love it!   So, question all- how do people feel about unusual ornaments? As in, for holidays other than Christmas?   I don't really decorate much, so no ornaments for me.   Anyone else a total nerd like me and would like DnD/Roleplay stuff (Dice, minis, books, corny tees, etc.)?   I have kind of always wanted to do DnD/roleplaying but never have had the chance.   On a similar note, who likes yarn? What kinds/colors/weights/fibers? Handspun? Glitter? Funky art yarn made from shredded jeans, fake flowers, lace, sequins, and the tattered souls of your enemies? Other craft supplies you desperately want more of and can't live without?   I don't really do a lot of crafting.   Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc?   I love hair things, they're kind of my new obsession, although I don't really wear scrunchies or headscarves, but I love hairsticks (as long as they aren't too long, 6-7" is perfect) and hair forks.     Hand beaded jewellery, yay or nay?   YAY!   To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement?   I would happily receive Tim Tam's nondairy counterpart, and actually, if my Witch wanted to make me some Turkish Delight I would squee. I've never had any and want to try it desperately!

Halloweenie SW Questions

Questions from the Halloweenie 2008 SW Round:   How do you feel about copies of music or dvd's that your witch might have that you might enjoy? Not just mixes, but whole copies? I am completely fine with it. If I like something I try to buy it (we own tons of CDs and DVDs), but I love hearing new music or finding new things to watch.   Say, witches, I have a question about birthdays. do you expect/rely on other people to plans birthday outings and activities? I would like to rely on other people, but usually I have to do the planning otherwise things don't happen.   Tarts? Yes/no? I do love tarts, although I don't burn them as much as I should (I actually have an electric burner and a ton of tarts to use though, so I don't need more)- I always have trouble getting the old tart out too. I do love scented candles though.   I'm wondering if my witchee would like to try these types of things (like the caramel with sea salts or chocolates with chilis/bacon/salt etc.)? Well, I have caramels so infrequently (since they have to be specially made with no milk- BTW- whoever posted that caramel recipe with coconut milk is amazing- I've had them with rice or soy milk, but I'm thinking they'd be way better with coconut milk- no aftertaste) that I think I'd just prefer the normal kind. Weird chocolate? Meh. Weird candy sounds cool though.   And finally, I have a question to throw into the general question bank (hopefully my Witchee answers!): What think you about receiving tea accessories and/or miscellany (like mugs, cups, saucers, strainers/filters, honey, natural sweeteners [like stevia])?   Well, I have lots of honey and stevia and whatnot, so I don't need any of that, although I wouldn't mind a strainer (a friend of mine has one that just fits inside the cup (the strainer is mug shaped) and then you can just take it out. I have a lot of loose tea that I don't drink that often because it's a hassle (and tea balls are kind of annoying to me). What one (or two, if you really must) BPAL bottles are you most longing for? Well, Pumpkin King (stop laughing!), and then I'd have to say MB: Underpants (which I actually had a bottle of when it first came out but it went kind of plastic on me so I got rid of it- now that it's aged it's wonderful. I have a couple imps but I'd love to get an actual bottle of it again), and finally L'Autumno.   Ringtones? My default one is an instrumental clip from Past and Future Secret by Blind Guardian, but I have all sorts of different ringtones for the people in my phone, so I know who's calling.   Addams Family vs. Munsters? Adams Family   I wonder if my witchee would like a blanket type thing. Would you? I certainly wouldn't mind one. I don't know why I haven't gone out and bought one. We have two- one is from my idiot brother with some NASCAR guy on it (because my husband is into cars, although not NASCAR- I've used it as a picnic blanket for reading in the forest preserve and I always feel like people are going to judge me because of my trashy NASCAR blanket- no offense to anyone who likes NASCAR- we actually have a sweet friend who is originally from the south who is obsessed with it. NASCAR just has a trashy connotation for me). The other is one with snowmen on it (another gift) that has spilled candle wax all over it. So, I guess I could use one.   What is your favorite thing to do on a cool fall day? I'd say going for a walk in the forest to lament summer's passing. I do love fall, but I hate winter (I mean, I like for a little while, but a couple weeks after Christmas I can't wait for spring. I hate not being able to go outside without freezing to death. ugh).   If you drink coffee (and make it yourself) do you use a French Press, regular filter basket coffee maker, Espresso Machine, Percolator? We use a French press ever since our coffee maker broke. I do love the way coffee tastes with it, although I do miss drinking a whole pot in the morning. What movie soundtracks (or scores) do you love? I think the one I listen to the most is the Garden State soundtrack.   How do you scent yourself? Do you layer soaps, moisturizers, etc. or do you go straight to slathering your bod with BPAL? I do like scented soaps/moisturizers, but BPAL is my mainstay.   Do you/how do you scent your world? Candles, incense, diffusers, potpourri? Candles and incense the most.   Would you enjoy oil or vinegar flavored with herbs grown at home? Strange and exotic spices with recipes to try? Cookies made with carnation petals? Cookies with carnation petals sound interesting! What are your pet's names, and what are they named for? Romana for the second regeneration of Romana in old (Tom Baker) Doctor Who.   Who here is a complete, over the top, Alice In Wonderland fanatic? I like Alice in Wonderland, although I’m not obsessed.   Are you a Trekkie? If so, which series do you prefer? Do you have a favorite character? I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a “Trekkie”, although I have watched all the Star Trek incarnations with the exception of the original series (which I’ve watched some of, although I’m not overly crazy about it). I guess my favorites are TNG and Voyager. Captain Picard is probably my favorite character.   Do you have phobias? Spiders *shivers*   How do you like your mix CDs? Random? Stuff you know you'll like? I like them in mp3 format the most, and like all kinds (expect country and rap- ugh). Would you rather get food or jewelry? jewelry Do you like children's toys, such as jacks, those little things you tilt around to get the ball in the right hold (wtf are those called?), the aforementioned caplet dinosaurs, cap guns, etc?: Yes, but I have too much crap in my house. English candy/tea/marmite or other stuff that you love and can't easily get outside of England? Sure! I love things from other countries! Do you like making up your SW packages around a theme, or prefer to mix it all up? I haven’t done a theme (yet).   What's the scariest thing that's ever happened to you? Well, I almost died in a car accident when I was 17, so I’d have to say that.   What is everyone's favorite Halloween song?! I don’t think I have one.   How many of mah fellow witchies play video games? Platform? Do you like used games? No video games for me.   What kind of music (genres, please) do you like? Female singer/songwriters, piano driven music, trip hop. Have any of you ever received a book from a Witchy and loved it so much you ended up buying a copy for a later Witchee? I have gotten books I’ve loved and may gift them in the future…   What kinds of eye shadows do we all like? I don’t wear much, although I’m not against it. Do you like lip balm? If so, do you like tinted, glossy, sparkly, pearly or just plain lip balm? I like every kind of lip balm. Are you active on any other boards/forums? I am a soap addict, but avoid goat’s milk.   Do you like kilts and would you wear one? I like them, but I don’t know if I’d wear one.   What's your favorite book? I have so many I love. Some facts about myself:     I am addicted to lip balm and if I am out or on the way to somewhere and realize I don’t have any with me I kind of freak out.   I love Tori Amos’ music.   I am ovo-vegetarian, although sometimes eggs gross me out.   I love my husband and think he’s awesome.   I work at a health food store and get irritated when people disparage vitamins and herbs.   I love books, especially good historical fiction (not cheesy romance historical fiction) and books about mental illness.   I prefer to read books from female writers.   I buy too many books and have many on my shelf that I haven’t gotten around to reading.   I dislike children until they’re around jr. high age, especially little boys and babies.   I am a Christian, but I detest hypocritical, judgmental, legalistic Christians who are jerks/look down on everyone.   The Catholic Church makes me insane- I think they take advantage of people and it makes me crazy.   I work with the girls in our church’s high school youth group and am crazy about them.   I love water and dream of having a house right on the ocean (or a lake would do).   I don’t have many friends, or a “best friend”, but would love to have one.   I am afraid of aliens (the gray ones with big eyes) and ghosts (although I don’t really think either exist- I guess I’m not sure about the aliens).   I can’t watch scary movies and am afraid of blood coming out of the sink.   I’m kind of germaphobe- not my own germs, but other people’s.   I don’t have a good relationship with my parents and can’t really relate to them, although I care about them a lot.   I’m adopted, but I hate when people act like it’s a big deal or say idiot things like, “Oh! So and so’s adopted too!) like we should be BFF because we’re both adopted or something.   I am blind without my glasses.   I’m deathly afraid of spiders and sometimes imagine that they’re on me. (Wow, this list is making me seem crazy)   The idea of people abusing animals makes me really, really upset.   I watch too much TV and love all things Joss Whedon.   I dropped out of high school my senior year because of big things going on in my life, but later got my GED.   I never went to college because I didn’t know what I wanted to do (and don’t really like working).   I HATE when people define others by what job they have or if they went to college, etc.   I waste far too much time on the computer.   I love BPAL.

Switch Witch Questions from former rounds- Summer 2008 and Winter 2007

Some random questions answered from the summer round:   Leather? The only leather I wear is for my shoes (and I feel kind of bad/hypocritical about it, but there isn't really much selection for vegan shoes). I have to wear shoes with good arch support too, so that narrows the field even more. I did finally find some good vegan sandals from Earth that are really comfortable, so that makes me glad... Do you like hair things? I do!   Disney? No.   Plants: I love plants, but I am terrible at watering them. My house is actually plantless right now, since they were all dying/dead and I had to give them a mass funeral...   Do you wear nail varnish? Yes, but more often on my toes- I like having my nails painted, but can't do my right hand to save my life. Homebaked goodies? Sure, but I don't like coconut either (and no dairy please)   Insects: I don't mind insects at all (and actually I really like the more interesting ones), except for spiders, which I wish would vanish from the face of the earth. First concert? I went to a bunch of shows of boys I was dating in HS before I ever saw a "real" concert, but the first big show I ever went to was REM in '96 I think.   lip balm? I have a lip balm and lip gloss and lip stain obsession. It's ridiculous- if I'm out somewhere and I realize I don't have any lip balm in my pocket I kind of freak out... I guess it's almost how people are with cigarettes or something.   favorite books as a kid? Gosh- I read so much when I was little- I was always in those reading contests at the library. I loved The Velveteen Rabbit and Where the Sidewalk Ends, and then later The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (I wanted to live in a museum SO badly after that book) and I think I read all the Babysitter's Club Books, and so many others. Do you still read any children's books? Well, to my sometime embarrassment, I still read YA books (even though I turned 30 this year- gasp!). I read the Twilight books for the first time last month and have kind of become a bit obsessed about them (lol)...   Phobias: Spiders. Oh my, I am terrified of them- it's really bad.... Hot beverages? Can I answer "all"? I LOVE tea and coffee and apple cider- what else is hot... I've recently been accumulating tea from Republic of Tea (I made us get it at the health food store I work at, so I could buy it at a discount)... Bath stuff: I like actual soaps more than shower gel, and a mixture of scrubby (as long as it's fine grain bits of scrubbiness) and smooth, although I guess I slightly lean towards liking smooth soaps a little more. I love lotion and have bottles of it everywhere- I only use bath oils in the winter, and never powder. Flavored hard candies: I LOVE hard candy- especially random candy store hard candies that I usually only get on vacation- root beer barrels, those cinnamon hard candies, coffee flavored ones...yum!   If I could live in another time: I don't know if I'd like to live permanently in another time, although I'd like to be able to time travel to several times/places (as long as I had lots of money- it almost seems like every time in the past seems romantic or wonderful, although most often it was only wonderful for a small minority, with the rest being slaves/servants/peasants- which I wouldn't want to be). I love the Anne of Green Gables books/movies, and it seems like such a simpler time, which would be nice (for awhile), I think living in the 20's during prohibition would be fun- going to speakeasys and the like, although I guess if I had to choose, I might say to live during the Civil Rights Movement- to be a part of that and make a difference would be really amazing. Ideally, I'd like to be someone like Kivrin in The Doomsday Book (without things going wrong though), where I could be sent to the past, having been inoculated against whatever diseases everyone died from, and where I could be pulled back out to go back to my own time).   Strangest dream you've ever had? I wouldn't say strangest, although it is probably one of the most vivid dreams I had- and it prompted me to get my bunnies: I had this bunny, and the two of us were on a long journey- we were going over mountains, crossing rivers, traversing the world- just the two of us- this bunny and me against the world! lol! It's kind of hilarious, but it really stuck with me, and so we got Romana.   Any mysteries in your family? Not anymore- just drama...lol. I'm adopted (and have since met my biological parents), but growing up I always wondered about them, and imagined they were famous, or royalty, or just exactly like me...   Daily websites:   -gmail -bpal.org -my LJ friends page to read the different community posts -accuweather- (I'm kind of OCD about having to know what the weather will be like) -shirt.woot.com- they have one (American Apparel) shirt on sale for $10 (including shipping) each day, so I usually check it in the morning to see if it's my style or not Do you like spicy/asian food? I do. Teen Crush-   Well, actually pre-teen (way preteen I think) was Joey from New Kids on the Block...   Then when I was a freshman I had a huge crush on Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon- I think I watched the No Rain video a thousand times because he was so gorgeous. What was your wedding song? Firehouse's Love of a Lifetime Shoe size- 9-9.5 or 39-40 narrow. Audiobooks- I love them, although I have a LOT of them, so my Witchie probably shouldn't send me any (not that I wouldn't want them, but because I may already have them). Alternative medicine? yes   Defend your position on Coke vs Pepsi- I don't drink them often, but when I have a choice, I choose Coke.   What gift do you want to give everyone in the world? Man, that's a hard question... hope maybe? Are you lactose-intolerant? no, but I don't do dairy   What do you find lucky? shooting stars     Beauty secret? Probably trying not to worry what other people think and to just please myself (not that I succeed in that all the time).       Some random questions from the Winter 2007 round: Any unusual hobbies?Meh, not really...   Fairies or gnomes? Gasp! I love them both- how could I ever choose? I guess I'm partial to gnome things however, because I'm kind of picky about the faeries I like- I don't like the sexy DDD cup faeries (I kind of think they're tacky *ducks*), and I hate the country Mary Engelbrite looking faeries too... Favorite book genres? Good historical fiction.   Video games? Meh. My husband is trying to convince me that we need a Wii, but the only games I really like to play are Mario Party (that must sound ridiculous, but it's true) and board game type games- Monopoly, etc.   Beer? I think my favorite right now is Red Stripe. I do like hard cider a lot too.   College? No. Things were crazy at that time in my life. Life was crazy, I was crazy, I'm lucky to be alive I guess... Girl Scouts? I actually loved girl scouts- we went camping and rambling through the forest all the time- it was awesome! Do you cook? Any cookbooks you want? I kind of hate cooking. I like eating (lol), so I see cooking as a means to an end.   Best concert: Nightwish with Tarja Turnen. It was their first concert in the US, and their last tour with their original singer. It was amazing, and I'm so glad we were able to go.
