OPYL - Sorted & Reviewed

Last update: August 16, 2026   Anfar 1950 Luna - Wet on the skin, there is fruitiness present that I don't typically associate with Anfar. The sparks of lychee and red currant is not by any means overwhelming, and is grounded by woods and warmths such as cedar, fir resin, vetiver, and amberwood. There are soft florals in the background of jasmine and rose, pulling this otherwise dry blend back into feminine territory. Definitely one of the better Anfar scents that I've sampled, and I'll be keeping it. 8/2026 Odyssee IV - Tobacco and leather are not typically notes I enjoy, but the other ingredients here lift them out of the nauseating stage. I think a lot of it has to do with the bergamot. The iris and tuberose undoubtedly softens the otherwise bold and spicy players. The akigalawood and guaiac wood are present though thankfully playing it cool in the background as a foundational "woodiness." Like I said, even though I shouldn't like this in theory, I keep on picking it up. There's just something interesting going on that works. Maybe a classic case of opposites attract? Spring 2026 Sabbia - I immediately get hit with leather after I spray this on my skin. Then, a whisp of saffron, and the passionfruit fights to make its way to the front. There is an insistent front of that oud, reading to me as woody leather. I'm thinking on the dry down I get the amber and vanilla, joining the faint fruit in bringing an understated sweetness. I can eventually catch the rose, which despite being a floral only adds to the wood and leather aesthetic. This is marketed as unisex, and though I enjoy many unisex scents, there is unfortunately too much leather and oud in this for me (typically masculine notes). Spring 2026 Zenit Rouge - The coconut and honey is nice, but unfortunately not strong enough to combat the tobacco and oud that dominates. Why are so many Anfar scents like this? I'll pass this almost-full sample spray onto someone that will enjoy it more. 8/2026   Astrid Requiem - From the Autumn and Halloween 2025 collection. This is a green floral, and not as smokey/gothic as the frankincense and white patchouli notes may suggest. The quince blossom is prominent, and kept strong by the rose. I cannot detect any vanilla, and I suspect that the white patchouli is the herbal backbone keeping it from being entirely too floral. Something here reminds me of visiting the damp rainforest exhibit at the zoo - deep and vibrant greens with flashes of orange, pink, and white. The large sample (slonk? chonk? I'm still learning these terms) of this summery blend is nice, but ultimately not a love of mine. 8/2026   Burberry Body -This is a warm floral. It's like what a basic white girl summer vacation smells like. It's like it's trying to be YSL's Paris Eau de Printemps but watered down. Nothing spectacular, and not offensive, but just not for me. 8/2026 Goddess - The description lists three vanillas, lavender, and nothing else. Maybe I'm spoiled on high quality perfume oils, but I was kind of hoping for something more than this carried on the back of sharp alcohol. It smells pretty department store generic to me. I'll be passing this along to someone who enjoys either vanilla or basic perfumes. 8/2026   The Burren Perfumery Aran -    Dolce & Gabbana D&G Anthology: La Roue de la Fortune 10 - The second perfume I ever loved, bottle purchased from the duty-free on an overnight ferry from Kristiansand, Norway to Aarhus, Denmark. The scent of hopeful spring, with the promise of love and adventure in the coming season. It's a daytime scent for me, bright for sunny days, nostalgic, daring, and optimistic. Spring 2011 / Spring 2026 D&G Anthology: La Temperance 14 - This is a soft spring scent, a combination of creamy florals, a touch of fruit, and an underlying musk that combines into a slightly woody spiciness. It doesn't have a far throw, but I do think it lasts a long time. The pink pepper and fruitiness that you initially get while wet fades rather quickly. People who like iris, violets, and orange dreamsicle will like this. I wouldn't say not to a bottle, though I do hold a higher place in my heart for La Roue de la Fortune. Spring 2026 The Only One - Sample: Oooh, this is nice. It is immediately complex, with homemade caramel twining with violet and bergamot. Sweet yet warm, floral yet citrus. This seems to me a scent for sunny, cold days. Though coffee is listed as a heart note, I do not easily grasp it (thankfully). Perhaps that's the genius of blending it with vanilla and patchouli. It's not too powdery; pure luxury. Though I do not love florals as a whole, violet remains one of my favorites, and it alongside the iris brings just the right hint of femininity. I would quickly say yes to a full bottle of this. Spring 2026   Exceptional Parfums Simply Belle - Free sample. This is feminine in the soft and floral way that one would stereotypically think. There is an alcohol-based sharpness, possibly citrusy. The slightest hint of musk or vanilla keeps everything from floating away. The overall effect is clean and doesn't demand attention. This is not for me and I'll be passing it along! 8/2026   Fear BOOtique Enchanted Forest - A rainy, green blend that invokes the pines and evergreens of a wet northern winter. The listed notes include mistletoe, holly fir, fresh snow, and a crisp winter night. A go-to bedtime scent for me during the proper season. 2020 Haunted Abode - A pandemic-year gift from my partner. The listed notes are: " Dusty carpets, Musty old furniture, Cobwebs, Abandoned Aged Wood, Leather Bound Books, & Moss" Infernal Remains - I love it when my partner wears this. Yum yum. It's difficult for me to pinpoint what it actually smells like, however. The listed notes are vague: "hell fire, charred remains, wood, smoke & ash." The BOOtique is keeping the recipe a secret, and it's price tag reflects it. 2020   Ginger Essence by Origins - One of my first adult scents. My mother wore this when I was a teen, and I got a free bottle from a college roommate who was going to discard it. It is brilliant in its simplicity: spicy citrus invokes fresh ginger; a bright scent for fall days. It is that snap of ginger zing that prevents it from being a too juicy, too tart. An elevated ginger ale! This would also be enjoyable as a linen spray, a candle, or a soap. Warm, fresh, bright. Fall 2010 / Spring 2026   Jimmy Choo Illicit - Sample: Right away you get the sweetness, and soon enough the alcohol burn dries away to reveal honey, warm yet fresh, and something slightly spicy. Oh, is it ginger? Not resinous enough to be amber forward, and not woody enough to be earthy. Bitter orange keeps it from being too sweet. A wee bit of "department store" scent lingers, but only a wee bit so I don't mind. There's some vanilla hiding, as well. As it dries down, I may pick up a bit of rose, but not in a dusty way. Fully dry, it's warmer, like the softest sweater. Good for cold weather. This veers towards gourmand, which I'm okay with. I wouldn't say no to a bottle of this. Sweet, warm, fresh. Spring 2026   Maison Margiela Replica By the Fireplace - A travel size I acquired due to its appearance in this article exploring lesbian perfumes. I was hoping it would be more like Fear BOOtique's Infernal Remains, but it leans more "Texas Roadhouse" rather than "autumn bonfire." Too masculine for me perhaps, with that dreaded leather-meets-wood note. I'd like to find a new home for this rather large sample. 8/2026   Paco Rabanne 1 Million - The first perfume I ever loved. My father bought me a bottle after I showed him the beloved sample, and when I packed my life into a single suitcase to move across the world, it came with me. It's definitely a winter scent for me, the epitome of "warm & spicy" to cut through the Norwegian snow. Winter 2011 / Spring 2026 Olympea - Sample: Wet on my skin I get an immediate fresh citrus burst, which quickly crystalizes into salty warmth. The vanilla and florals then come through. I'd say that the ginger flower is stronger than the water jasmine. The soft, warm, and woody base notes stop this from being a summery scent, for me. It seems to straddle the line between luxury and casual. Fully dry, I want to say that this is a spring scent when the weather is still chilly, or a late fall scent to ease you into winter. Not unappealing, but not extraordinary either. Soft, warm, simple. Spring 2026   Paris Hilton Passport in Paris - This is just... not good. The sample I received was one of those unopened, one-time-use types. It smells very drugstore, body spray, alcohol-based. It is supposedly fruity and sweet, maybe vanilla too. Hard pass! 8/2026   Seance Cemetery -    Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium - I had high hopes for this, because it's so popular. It's very strong and in your face. It gives me wealthy old lady vibes. Nope, not for me. 8/2026 Paris Eau de Printemps - There are apparently two editions of this discountinued scent, 2002 and 2009. Mine was gifted to me in 2008 by my French foreign exchange student, so I have to assume it's the 2002 version. This smells like hot summertime during the high school years. Hanging out with the emos and goths, rebelling in slightly illegal ways, enjoying the freedom of driving, and listening to sad indie music. It's very floral, and I didn't like it at first, but I kept on using it each summer and I guess it grew on me. It's a wonder that I still have a third of the bottle left. 2008 / 8/2026
