The Ghost

Recommended Posts

A thin, sinuous, creeping chill, the scent of glee-filled undeath: white iris, osmanthus, Calla lily, tomb-crawling ivy and a coffin spray of gladiolus, lisianthus and delphinium.

This smells like a flower garden in bloom on an early morning in the fog. The cala lily and gladiolus are the most distinct floral notes for me, which is delightful because I love both. I can definitely get the iris and delphinium floating just beneath them. It's a light and airy and quietly peaceful sort of smell, and very much in my wheelhouse.

I got this imp from a friend, and it's definitely something I would consider a full bottle of.

As white florals go, well rounded. The ivy note is probably my favorite part of this scent as it provides a greenness that keeps it from being cloying. I can see this being a solid representative in a "Your First White Florals" sample pack.

This is a pale, cool, clean white floral, predominantly calla lily and ivy on me with a soft backbone of iris. It has a clean, inedible fruitiness which I think comes from the calla lily, though I am not very familiar yet with gladiolus and delphinium as notes - it does smell the way I would imagine gladioli to smell! I definitely get the green of the ivy, and an image of flowers in a graveyard ringed by vines.

I don't know if this blend would give me that spectral image without the association of the name, though - on its own it's clean unchallenging, slightly chalky, and almost commercial in a way that reminds me of Juliet. I get a little osmanthus (one of my favorite notes), but quite pale and muted, not its usual golden self.

This is pleasant, but not a favorite, and I won't need a bottle, though the effect of the ivy with the white florals is interesting enough for me to keep my imp at least for now.

True to its name, this is an extremely light, airy blend. Very thin, low projection and I only get about 2-3 hours of wear. It's quite pretty and fresh, but almost too clean for my liking. I get a fruitiness I associate with osmanthus and some very pale lilies. It's lovely and refreshing for a warm day, I may reach for it this summer when it gets so unbearably hot it's hard to even contemplate fragrance, but I can't imagine myself reaching for it particularly often. There's not much to it, although I'm not sure what I was expecting from a perfume with "thin" in its description!

Sweet, a bit fruity, juicy, and punchy at first, featuring many complex florals I’m not familiar with. At least one is reminiscent of tuberose. Definitely an air of lush, expensive soap or shampoo, as another forum member pointed out. I get delicate, watery, aquatic freshness from what I believe is the calla lily, and an airy, herbal quality may represent the ivy. From what I’m reading, the note of peach or apricot is the osmanthus. A citrusy, green-apple-like component (probably the gladiolus) offers a unisex impression of fresh, cool, clean cologne, and the white iris lends a powdery feel. As noted by other reviewers, I also detect a hint of melon and/or cucumber, and there is a green quality. The fruitiness combined with the chalkiness another reviewer mentioned give the impression of Flintstones children’s chewable vitamins. Crisp, cool, tart, soapy, reminiscent of Bath and Body Works’ Sweater Weather. Definitely getting the rain-kissed petals of calla lilies among the sweet, spooky florals. So poetic! It’s a bit vampiric (Bram Stoker’s Dracula garden or Corpse Bride wedding bouquet vibes), and scratches the itch that was considering getting There’s Water Here. I can also imagine it having been part of the Crimson Peak series. Ideal for listening to Moonlight Sonata! The perfect ethereal impression of a moonlit, nocturnal garden; color association is silvery, along with silky, satiny blue, delicate green, and diaphanous, glowing white. Lab-fresh, fades down to a barely-sweet, chalky note on skin over the course of a full day of wearing (the ivy?) but tart, mouthwatering freshness sticks better to clothing, with all notes blending in the sillage/throw. Since the projection is very light, a generous application is required. Another perfect white floral. BPAL #22!
