BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

White cognac and torn paper, a melody caught mid-breath and left hanging in the dark. Pale iris bruised by rainwater and tears, osmanthus petals, and the faint green bite of night-blooming cereus unfurling unseen in the shadows. Aged oak and dry amber, black musk sinking into itself like swallowed sound.

The prettiest song in the world, unfinished, delivered anyway.

Tears and ecstasy scream silently into the humid New Orleans evening. The sidewalk is slick with rain and scattered with trampled flower petals, bruised but still fragrant, holding on to whatever beauty is left among the wreckage. Pure white blossoms of night-blooming cereus open into starbursts among tangles of leaves and vines. Somewhere, in the back of a van, a vampire strums his guitar in the dark, a half-empty glass of cognac languishing on a table in the musky shadows of a place forever imbued with sex and agony. He inhales the perfume of the night and exhales with lonely notes that flow like raindrop tears streaking down the window.

At first, this is a warm douse of cognac and soft white blossoms soaked by ozonic rain. Cognac and florals wear off after the drydown, leaving behind the oak and amber notes. With more time, the black musk comes out as well, darkening things even further. These notes bring an ultra moody feel to the blend, and I can just feel Lestat crooning the notes of this song to Louis,  baring the depths of his heartbreak and hurt through song.

In the bottle: A white-green, ozonic, almost vegetal cloud. Like dewdrops on leaves.

On the skin: Immediate shapeshift alert! I'm really getting the oak and amber now, and that sweet black musk.

It's soft and wistful, feels like a tender, long forgotten memory.

the aged oak note was still really grumpy and wild two days post delivery, so I've let it calm down a good bit longer and it's quite lovely now. there's a vegetal freshness to the scent when first applied, then an ethereal vibe from cognac and iris, and finally osmanthus and paper emerge in tandem to hit you in the feels. for once black musk isn't taking over everything, which is a surprise because that's how it usually plays out for me. it feels soft, nostalgic, and dreamy.

In the bottle: cucumber, sappy green leaves and pepper?

On the Skin: the black musk and oak are pretty obvious but still smells like spicy cucumber.  This becomes more pleasant a few minutes in - its much the same but more homogeneous.  At the moment it's odd but I believe aging will work wonders

Ferns crushed in salt, fronds wrung until they weep, but mineral, not sentiment or sorrow. Cool and pale and sheer, a parched thing, brittle, weightless. Moth wing, snake skin. A salt flat, the fine white scrim of grief where the weeping was.
