doomsday_disco Report post Posted July 23 A brilliant young violinist - caustic, painfully vulnerable, and forever reaching into oblivion - whose music was as fierce as his despair. A haunted concerto of weathered violin wood, black velvet, beeswax candles, bruised violets, wine-soaked iris, and chilled silver amber distilled into a fragrance of impossible longing and exquisite desolation. LavenderCoffee Report post Posted August 13 Nicki's scent is so terribly charming, even/especially with the melancholy thread of chilled silver amber running through it. there is sweetness from the beeswax and wine, gently rounded out with wood and purple florals. I almost want to say there's a dampness to the violet and/or iris, a gentle aquatic quality of tears. he brings a perfect balance of beauty and sorrow that smells gorgeous on its own, but is also appropriately devastating when worn with Lestat. patina Report post Posted August 26 (edited) Violet pastilles immediately, but then I get an old wood with velvet curtains and unmistakable silver. I have an old theater prop velvet skirt and this is completely like the fabric. How does this smell so accurate? It also smells like tears, a melancholy person. I’m usually more literal than this. Also there is wine but this is not a 100% all wine all the time scent on me. This is lovely but it might make me sad. I don’t even know the character. ghoulnextdoor Report post Posted August 27 (edited) A lacquered lollipop, hard and glossy and sweet, the sweetness of a violet that’s grown monstrous, lush, still-life cluster of grapes with the heavy purple of it. And further in, something I cannot name. Childlike, from long ago. A book of fairytales gone soft at the corners on a nursery shelf, a doll unearthed from deep in the toe of a stocking on Christmas eve. Not the thing itself, but the varnish preserving the memory of it, sugar-set and crackling. Edited August 27 by ghoulnextdoor
musicallum Report post Posted September 6 I love this. Violet is a note that I’m very fond of in the right context but when it’s too high in the mix it just doesn’t suit me and feels like it’s riding a clown car over my skin. I was also a little bit apprehensive about “wine soaked iris”, but I needn’t have been. Nicki captures a sense of theatricality and drama but in a more somber, sweet and ethereal way. “Haunted” is a great word for it.
