Who do I email with questions? BPAL/BPTP contact info

Agree that I've tried the contact form in the past and the message didn't get through. The Post is usually pretty quick to respond at the email above, though, and they've always been very kind and helpful. <3

Dead Leaves, White Musk & Vanilla Hair Gloss

In the bottle and fresh on my hair this starts with a blast of leaves. These aren't totally crispy dead leaves. There is some bitter green chlorophyll still hanging around in these suggesting they are just newly fallen. As it dries the vanilla comes out as a soft, sweet comfortable halo. If I smell my hair directly up to my nose I get the leaves but there's this sort of effervescent aura of transparent vanilla and musk hanging around that softens the astringency of the leaves and saves the scent from just being a pile of dead plants. That being said. This is pretty heavy on the leaves so keep that in mind. It's not my favorite HG but I don't mind giving it some time in my immense HG rotation now and then.

    London

I'm very hesitant about rose as I often find that my skin amps it into something sharp, sour, and shrieking. So I was hesitant when I got this as an imp. Not here! London was a pleasant surprise. In the imp it was a bit sharp but on my skin it instantly transformed into a soft sweet rose powder. And this is not a bad thing. Delicate, elegant, and traditional in the best way possible. I do not get anything dark or blackened about it, to be honest, which is a little sad. Still a lovely scent, though!

    Muddy Puddles

This is straight up, honest to goodness hot chocolate. It does smell like the powdered Swiss Miss kind of hot chocolate to me which isn't to say it's bad! This is sitting at the kitchen table with your hands wrapped around a warm mug of hot chocolate dotted with tiny white marshmallows. This is very smooth, warm, and cozy. Everything a hot chocolate should be! No dirt here, folks.

    Walking the Prime Meridian

Damp sweet greenery, ozone, and oak. The ozone does dip its toes into a bit of soapy territory, but not far enough in to make it unwearable. It's fresh but not sharp as many other aquatics sometimes tend to be. Unisex but sweet enough to easily bypass falling into a strictly masculine category. Not blowing off the doors, but I'll be keeping and wearing the bottle on rainy days when I need to feel rainy, too.

    Pure Applesauce

Fresh Granny Smith apples for sure! A bit sour, tart, and juicy. I get a bit of the honey but unfortunately only a tiny whisper of tea and no tobacco. Mainly this is a tart apple scent with a hint of honey. Nice but unfortunately not as complex as I was hoping. I'll be letting it sit to see if a bit of aging allows the other notes to come into their own.

    Pop

Old fashioned pink bubblegum with a bit of spice. I agree with many of those above in that it almost feels like this is cinnamon bubblegum. Like taking a piece of Big Red and stuffing it into your mouth with a piece of Bazooka. Surprising but not as off-putting as you might think. Unfortunately, I'm not detecting any ozone, cold, or rain which is what primarily interested me in this scent. I'll be holding onto it for now to see if I change my mind but as of now it's not something I think I'll be reaching for often. But if you're a fan of smelling like gum, this is your scent.

    Sticky Eyeballs and Floppy Entrails

Wet this is jammy strawberries and cream. The strawberries make me think of strawberry jelly. Sugary sticky gooey ones, not fresh juicy ones. As it dries, the marshmallow note makes itself known and becomes more of a main player. At the end, I was left with mainly marshmallow and a hint of strawberry jam. I never really got licorice from this, red or otherwise. Although I think it lent to the general sugary sense of the whole scent. This one lasted almost a whole work day on me. I like it but have to have my sweet tooth on to wear it.

    Meus Amor Aeternus

This starts off sweet and delicate. A very faint whiff of fresh green mingling with soft wisps of vanilla float around at the top of the scent. These are backed by a gentle honey made warm by the unmistakable exotic spices of the Lab's very own Snake Oil. As it warms on the skin, the SO begins to shine through, grounding the scent a bit. Dorian is there as well. Absolutely identifiable, but faded, almost ghostly. For all of its notes, I expected this to be stronger and more sultry. Instead it is a light scent, warm and soft like early morning sunlight. A keeper.

    Theodosius, The Legerdemain

2015 Version. Wet this is strongly citrusy bergamot. It's tart and bright and reminds me more along the lines of lemon that bergamot to be honest. It's well sweetened by the vanilla and smells like sugary lemony tea to me. The white musk is the next most prominent. A bit fuzzy and warm. Beneath it all is a very recognizable fougere that runs along the same lines as Dorian and Jareth. Hardly surprising given its origins! Overall, though, I'd say this runs much closer to Jareth than Dorian for me. Dorian is warm and sweet with a hint of naughty but Theodosius is danger right from the start. This is colder and flashier. Again, like Jareth. I'd really recommend it to anyone who liked Jareth. Also not picking up any jasmine leaf but I suspect it's hiding in the fougere which is fine by me! Overall, a nice scent that I'll hold on to, but it won't be dethroning Dorian for me any time soon.

Dragon With a Llama Mohawk Hair Gloss

In the bottle Dragon is very warm and nutty. The macadamia definitely makes itself known. On my hair the dragon's blood and champaca come out. The champaca is a lovely airy floral and the dragon's blood is a bit of a spicier floral. The whole thing comes across as a warm airy incense with just a touch of sweet honey and grounding nut. Throw is lower than many of my other hair glosses, which is a real shame.

    TKO Atmosphere Spray

I'm someone who had also not tried TKO perfume and tried it in atmo form for first time. It's reputation preceded it so I was worried it wouldn't be as good as everyone made it out to be. Luckily, it was better! The scent comes out as a fairly herbal lavender that gradually takes on sweetness from the marshmallow. It's definitely marshmallow instead of vanilla to my nose. This scent is light, airy, and so lovely. I love to spray it all over my pillows before I sleep and find it to be a very calming, pleasant way to drift off. In the morning I'll sometimes find it on my hair or pajamas. The scent is long enough to last the night and probably could last more than one night but I keep reapplying because it smells SO GOOD.

    What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?

Czernobog is another great one. I also happen to like Chaotic from the RPG line. Thanks, TallGrrl! I'll jot them down as well.

    What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?

Thanks for the input, recklessly! My favorite thing about this is there are a lot of scents here I want to try too so now I am allowed to have somewhat of an ulterior motive haha. Satyr, Paladin, Rogue, and Scherezade have all been on my radar for a while and I can easily grab an imp of the last three when funds allow. Morocco, Lyonesse, Sherlock, John Watson, and Fighter are all imps I have hiding somewhere so I'll drag them out for some slathering. Antikythera Mech went odd on me, but I'll test it on him to see if it smells better. If it does, I can finally get rid of this imp I've been trying to make myself like because everyone else likes it so much. Good point about the skin testing, elbow. I like the way you think. I'm not at all familiar with Anteros and Desire so I'll have to write them down to look into for sure. I do have RR, Mars Ultor, Snake Charmer, and Womb Furie. I forgot all about Womb Furie actually! So those are all good potentials. I might even have Sassafras lying around somewhere too. Hm...I have so many imps sometimes I lose track. I'm sure you know the feeling. Thank you both! These are all great places to start!

    What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?

Bumping for suggestions. My boyfriend was here last week and became very interested in many of my BPAL scents. He particularly liked Smut and Snake Oil 09. Today he texted me asking me what scents he should try and I'm stumped because when I asked him what he wanted to smell like he told me he didn't know. It seems he has a thing for musk, though, judging by Smut and Snake Oil which I think share a similar if not one of the same musks. I was wearing the 09 vintage SO, though, which goes very sweet and rich vanilla on me so rich spicy vanillas may be a thing as well. The only thing we really were able to establish was probably nothing overtly food because he'll get hungry. But vanilla is okay. I put this in the dude thread as he's a dude but based on his reaction to Smut and SO I'm guessing he doesn't mind smelling a bit feminine and sultry either. Does anyone have any suggestions? He's planning on grabbing a few imps and SO will be one of them. I did warn him the new SO would smell different than mine but hopefully he doesn't mind. If it helps, he also was totally into my Lush stuff so while I don't think he wants to straight up smell like flowers he's definitely open to a lot of sweet things haha. ETA: Have already recommended Dorian and Bard to him.

    A Stroll Through the Quarter

Wet this starts with the bananas foster. I don't normally like bananas but this is not a fresh banana. This is warm candied caramelized banana and cream and it's quite nice. As it dries, I detect more incense. It's lovely and sweet with the bananas fading into the background to make room for vanilla. There is a hint of Dorian in the dry stage but on my skin at least he is just a faint murmur behind clouds of incense and vanilla. The throw is stronger at the start but fades close to the skin as it dries, which is a shame. Still, this is absolutely lovely! Very glad I picked this up.

    Alice Hair Gloss

Agree with those above. Alice HG is all about the spicy carnation on first spray. It's much more prominent than in the BPAL perfume. Like Dementia, I find it so spicy that it reminds me of cinnamon. As a lover of spicy carnation, though, this is heaven to me. After the initial blast I find it quite quickly mellows down. The milk and honey make the carnation sweeter and creamier, morphing it from WHOA spicy to mmm sweet and spicy. Unfortunately, compared to all of my other HG, Alice doesn't stick around very long. I find that on me at least she's gone within the hour even with a healthy dosage. It's a shame because I absolutely LOVE it while it lasts.
  19. I will second The Last Unicorn which has three components she may like: lilacs, white chocolate/coconut (gourmand), and wood. Although it is sandalwood but I don't find it overbearing in The Last Unicorn which is, in my opinion, a very unique scent that straddles gourmand and floral. Eat Me struck me as a typical gourmand blend. Not necessarily very exciting. Vanilla, spice, cake. But if she likes gourmand cake scents it's a nice one. I might suggest White Rabbit as well. This to me also strikes an interesting balance between gourmand and not. The honey, vanilla, milk, and tea are your gourmand with a "linen" note that smells like clean white/lemon florals to me. ETA: Maybe Dorian? This has always struck me as sugared vanilla lemon tea with what a backing of lavender.

    Iulia, L'Artiste du Diable

Iulia is lovely. Wet, I get a healthy blast of white tea, sugar cane, and lemon balm with orange blossom dominating the florals. Mint is a refreshing support and the honey is quite detectable as well. As it dries it fades to be less in your face. This is sweet, floral, bright, and airy. It's feminine and somewhat perfume-y without straying into something too cloying or heavy. Personally, I like it a lot and can foresee myself reaching for it when I want to wear something sweet and pretty.

    Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2015)

This is my first foray into Mme Moriarty's legend so I cannot compare it to the old version. On my skin, just dried, it comes across as a very light red musk. This is much lighter than my normal experience with red musk. It's very airy and ethereal almost. I get a hint of vanilla and something that I know is the fruit because I've read the notes but doesn't read fruity so much as dark and red. Dried more fully, I get a faint woody base that might be the patchouli. If it is, it's well hidden. I wouldn't have identified it as patch without knowing it was in there. This does smell quite perfume-y and there does seem to be something hinting at the soap Sadari got. That being said it's very pretty and quite unique. I do find on me that my skin sucks it right up and the throw and stay are not immense. Still, the bottle just came yesterday so this one may need some time to sit and deepen. ETA: About an hour the woodiness comes out. It's a beautiful soft wood. This must be the patch. Hours and hours after application I'm left with a soft spicy vanilla. Lovely!

    Eldritch Dark Hair Gloss

This HG is primarily red musk and rose on me with a bit of leather. The musk is sweet but dark and is lifted by the roses. The roses are not in your face floral. They're sugary and warm. The leather adds a bit of snap. Agree that this is extremely sensual, sultry, and intriguing. Absolutely lovely. One of my favorite HG's to date.

    Baobhan Sith Bath Oil

I have not tried the original perfume but the bath oil is one of my favorite things. It starts off as primarily sweet grapefruit. It's kept a juicy, sweet scent rather than a sharp one by the tea and florals but has a tiny bit of fresh tartness. On my skin it becomes grapefruit backed by tea and a hint of floral. The ginger is either too soft for me to notice or just lends a bit of bite to the fresh grapefruit. It's a great pick me up for a morning shower and extremely refreshing. I usually slather it on in the shower but also use it on dry skin as a moisturizer. The oil sinks in quickly and provides moisture without being too heavy or oily. In the bath, the aroma wafts and surrounds you. So it definitely does its due diligence as a bath oil as well. Couldn't be more pleased.

    Honey and Beeswax scents

For beeswax, I can be another one of many to attest to Lights of Men's Lives. I'd also suggest Bard which is primarily honey, vanilla, and wood. It's not listed as having beeswax but I swear it's in there because it has a very similar feel to Lights of Men's Lives to me. I think it might be the "(waxed) lute strings." It's more masculine than "O" in my opinion, but not overtly masculine. It's a cozy scent on me. Sweet, warm.
  25. SimplySyra

    Jareth

On me, Jareth is the softest, most understated leather I've ever worn. This is slick black clean leather just as he wears in the movie. Not worn, dusty, or brown. It has a very smooth, airy almost smokey feel. It's not at all heavy and comes off as almost even ethereal which until now I didn't think was possible for a leather. The fougere is present as a gentle undercurrent. As many have already said, this fougere is reminiscent of the one in Dorian but softer and gentler. Just at the edges hovers a faint powdery sweetness that must be the tonka mingling with the oudh and/or musk. The leather really is the star, though, and the most dominant note. Everything else is just a support.
