    Nocturne

In the Bottle Heavy, lush florals; all the scents listed in the description, and they're all things I love, so YAY! On Me I swear, this just gets BETTER. There's an almost jasmine edge, too, leading me to be reminded of Joy perfume. It lasts on me, as well, and it stays fairly intense. I wear it when I'm feeling a little bit maudlin, a lot contemplative, and kind of moody and distant. It's beautiful and intense and classy. Funnily enough, I let my Mum have a sniff, because I though she'd like it (she wears Joy) and yep... she Gets It. I'm probably going to get a bottle for myself.

    Voodoo Lily

In the Bottle A bitter, crisp lily with a slightly woody note. On Me The lily comes out, as does a spiciness, but after a few minutes, it smells almost like toilet cleaner on my skin. Half an hour in, it's changed again: I have a lovely blooming lilt with a darkish tinge-- the bitterness and the spiciness has gone, this is ALMOST close to Les Fleur Du Mal on me, only softer and not as violety. There's a hint of something sweet, but the lily doesn't let it get too sweet, which I appreciate. A few hours later, I can still smell it on me: it's subtle and pretty.

    Uranus

In the Bottle Sweet, yummy cinnamon. On Me Stays sweet and cinnamony for awhile, then changes to something a lot hotter and harsher. Then it all sort of vanishes, and I'm left with a subtly breezy something vaguely floral. I can't smell it on me anymore (after about three hours) but I can still smell it around me. It's interesting. (And it's my astrological planet, too!)

    Hemlock

In the Bottle Sweet, and green: sugared lime and grassy scents, maybe some pine, possibly a few other things (lily? watercress?-- there's a very juicy moist smell to it, like freshly cut grass, but it's lighter and not quite as bitter). On Me Still sweet, still limey, but there's something else making its presence known: green tea, perhaps? This is both fresh and light and yet really quirky. I'm not really into "fresh breezy" type scents because they all tend to smell the same to me-- but the lime kick in this is gorgeous and gives it character. After several hours, I can't smell anything, though. Which is a pity, but hey: it's one of those perfumes I can apply throughout the day.

    Midwinter's Eve

In the Bottle It smells damn near edible, but almost a little too sweet. I'm getting loads of berries, but also a lolly-type smell too. On Me Goes to over-the-top sweetness. It smells like I've been eating boiled lollies and Toffee Apples and milkbar lollies and I'm sweating them. I'm really not getting the plum here at all-- it's just all madness and sweetness of these berries. It's pleasant, but FAR less subtle than I presumed it was going to be: it kind of blows you away. Reminds me a little of the Jessica Simpson Dessert perfume Juicy, only it isn't edible.

    Death on a Pale Horse

This was one of the very first BPAL imps I ordered, and the very first one I tried, so the psychological thing is pretty strong for me: in a way, it shaped my impressions of BPAL perfumes. I'm really glad Death was my "first time" because if it had been, say, a couple of the ones which haven't impressed so favourably on me, I probably wouldn't have become such a fan of the Lab. In the Bottle It's clean and lemony and there's a coldness to it. It smells almost chemical but.. not. I think the lavender softens it out a little: either that or it's just that I'm getting used to cleaning products with lavender in them. On Me It's elegant, and while it retains that "clean" smell, it doesn't go to antiseptic, nor does it smell fake. I'm pretty sure that's the sandalwood and vetiver making their combination known to all: it's an interesting blend. I can still detect lavender, but it's not your conventional English Country Garden lavender-- it's an icy, almost angry lavender. Awhile later: still there, that good old sandalwood and the sharpness of the vetiver. But other notes are coming through, too-- the lavender has dimmed a little, and there's definitely citrus in there, but the hazelnut! There really IS hazelnut in it! I'm pretty sure I can pick up the lily, too, it's that perfumey-but-pleasant-and-subtle deal. I'm not really seeing the mint. Seriously, I'm in LOVE. This scent is perfect for me: it's not pretty, it's definitely not shiny-happy-goodness, and I don't think everyone's going to be jumping hoops to get some or smell some-- but it feels right for me. I like the "chilly" blends but this one is complicated, and there's a warmth and a softness deep down there-- the hazelnut and the lily-- but it's not the first thing you notice. I also love that it is utterly unisex-- I'm really curious as to what it smells like on the menfolk because I think it could have a totally sexy and intense edge. Funny, too-- having first tried this last year, and finally reviewing it (I got me a bottle the other day!) feels weird. I noticed an older review where Hangingfire said it was similar to Shalimar. From when I was a kid, Shalimar has been my signature scent, so... well picked.

    Hell's Belle

I seriously feel like I've accidentally gotten a bottle of something else here!!! In the bottle Dragon's Blood, possibly cedar and cypress. A hint of something floral, maybe lilac. On Me The Dragons' Blood dominates, and all I'm getting from this is a strong resiny hippy-type scent. Eventually when it dries down there's a powdery note. In short: it's not nasty, but it doesn't really do anything special for me. Since my son tore the label on the imp, I'll use it up, but I won't be buying more of it.

    Schrodinger's Cat

In the Bottle Pure citrus for me: lime and grapefruit standing out here-- it's happy and "zingy" and rather cute. On Me All I'm getting is grapefruit for awhile, as it dries I'm getting something smelling vaguely of Windex, which bothers me. A few hours in, it's back to the limey/grapefruity blend. A few hours after that: it's STILL there, but has mellowed down to something entirely different. I'm still getting a slight citrus hint, but there's a warmth there that wasn't before-- not quite amber, definitely not floral-- I don't know what it is. It's an interesting, bizarre scent. I'm suspecting it's going to smell different on me the next time I wear it: last time I noticed a minty vibe that wasn't really there this time.

    Czernobog

In the Bottle Uh-oh: it smells all incense and patchoulli. And I'm not really the hippy type. On Me Transformation! It's complicated, dark and brooding-- I'm still getting wafts of incense and patchoulli, but they're getting balanced out with a musky sweetness, and I'm assuming cloves. And there's something smokey in there, too. Yum. ...About half an hour later? This is GORGEOUS. It's also seriously sexy. If I ran into someone wearing this stuff, I'd be all over them. By this stage, the patchoulli has died down and I'm just getting lovely clovey-tanniny goodness and ...lime? Vetiver? Not 100% certain. By this point, my mother (who'd previously said, "You smell like a hippy trippy shop!") is saying, "I can't believe how much that's changed: it really suits you." "Not at all hippy shop?" "No... it smells like a completely different fragrance!" A few hours later: still lasting, still beautiful. It's got strength as well as an odd kind of beauty. It's not pretty, and not instantly appealing-- it's dark and heavy and complicated. And man, do I love it. I bought myself a 5ml bottle on my next order.

    Osun

In the Bottle All I can smell is divine, glistening honey. It reminds me of this Karma Sutra Edible Honey Dust I saw in an adult shop once (which is classier than it sounds-- it was made with real honey and it was quite pricey). On Me OhmyGOD. This is absolutely stunning. I'm still getting the honey, but it's not a sickly-sweet fake smell-- it's sophisticated and decadent. I'm getting a touch of amber in here, too, but the honey is definitely the strong note. And I *think*, somewhere down there, there's florals-- very subtle but happy florals, and they don't dominate at all. This works so well for the concept, and makes me think of lazing around in little patches of sunlight with a good book on a not-too-hot day, or waking up late on a Sunday afternoon with the sun peeping through the window and falling onto the bedclothes. No joke, this is sheer, unadulterated bliss. I actually feel reasonably *happy* when I'm wearing it, too. It's amazing.

    French Love

Lesee... I got this as a frimp with my very first BPAL order, so it's always going to have a special place in my heart. And I stupidly didn't cap the bottle properly and it leaked into my handbag... which meant that the next time I ordered BPAL, I had to get another bottle of this. Yep, it's really that good. In the Bottle Smells sweet-- not sure if this was what I expected, and I could not make out what the heck was in there... rose? Lilac maybe? The colour should be a giveaway, but it doesn't have that resiny tang of Dragon's Blood that one expects with the red. On Me Ooh-la-la! Yum. It maintains the same sweetness, but takes on a sharper, much more noticable, and VERY sexy scent. There's something warmer in there coming through, and another floral-- I'm guessing at least a hint of gardenia. I've had a few compliments on this one-- "What's THAT you're wearing?" There's also a champagney edge-- this is more what I'd have hoped Bon Vivant (which failed dismally on me) would smell like, but no worries-- I'm very happy with the Frenchness. I plan on getting myself a bottle some time. What's more-- it makes me feel pretty damned sexy... isn't that what it's all about? I can credit French Love with being what got me into the Conjure Bag oils. (Chuparosa actually makes me perk up a bit when I'm really in the dumps-- I'm kind of tripped out by the psychological component of this range!-- I honestly would have never considered it if it weren't for French Love.)

    Bon Vivant

An effervescent blend of crystalline champagne notes and sweet strawberry. In the Bottle Sparkly champagne and berries of some description, and very very sweet. It smells like a roll-on perfume I bought maybe ten years ago-- not bad, but not what I was expecting. On Me It's unfortunately turned into the worst of both worlds. I'm not a white drinker, and maybe that's why it doesn't like me...? The champagne note has soured, smelling like cheap house white, and the strawberries have gone sickly sweet. It's acrid and really unpleasant on me. It lasts awhile, though-- either that or I'm just really conscious of it because it doesn't agree with my chemistry. It's a shame, because it really does sound delicious from the description.

    Blood Pearl

In the Bottle This smells classy: like an expensive hotel lobby where only a few very VIP types get to hang around. There's a note of something cedar-y in here, softened with the coconut, and the Dragon's Blood gives it a soft sweetness. It's subtle, yet has character, and a soft dryness. I'm pleased... On Me Initially it retains the same sort of smell as in the bottle, and I feel pretty darned awesome wearing it. After about fifteen minutes, though, the coconut kicks in, which isn't at all bad-- it's a sweet subtle coconut and it smells authentic-- I don't smell like cheap suntan oil, in other words. Half an hour in, and it's a rich, sweet, buttery coconut: the woody notes have disappeared entirely. About an hour after that-- it's gone. All of it.

    Yerevan

I recieved this as a frimp with an order awhile ago, and when I read the scent description, I thought, "Hmmm... not me." In the Bottle Smells like lollies-- sweet and nondescript with a bare floral base. Detectable apricot. On Me Ever be totally wrong about a first impression and wind up really, really pleased about it? That's Yerevan for me. I'd have never picked this for myself, but it's beautiful. Initially, it smells like cookie dough-- sweet and slightly spicy, and damn near edible-- then it dries down a bit, the apricot mellows out and those gorgeous spices come through and smell absolutely divine. No idea what the spices are-- cinnamon and cardamon are my two guesses, though I doubt it's just the two: there's a complexity to this fragrance. In short: It's one of those seemingly bizarre combinations that just happens to work really well. I regret not buying a bottle of this when I heard it was discontinued.

    Rage

In the Bottle A dry, dusty fragrance with a woody, resiny undertone. On me It's woody and resiny, but there's a delicate sweetness and the hint of something floral poking through. It doesn't smell nearly as austere on me-- it's warm and pretty and there's a slight dustiness coming through. It's elegant and sexy all at once, and reminds me of Cacharel's Anais Anais for the dustiness, but without that gross off smell, and Chanel No. 5 without the old-lady-cupboard smell. I love it. My only rage about it is that it's been discontinued.

    Kostnice

I bought myself a bottle of this just as it was being discontinued because it sounded so pretty... In the bottle it smells dry and not particularly overpowering, with a hint of fresh, juicy florals. It's exotic-smelling and different. On me? It smells like I've burned a lot of incense and then rolled around in the ash for awhile. The floral vanishes on me and it's just smoky, dusty incense. It doesn't smell unpleasant but it's not something I'd wear as a perfume or have much use for otherwise, unfortunately.
  17. How does one get a CnS? Last time I bought things from here, I didn't recieve anything reciept-like and emailled the Lab-- I was using PayPal under an old eddress so I had to reactivate that account. I ordered stuff again a few weeks ago and I haven't received a CnS, though. My bank's saying I've been charged and that the money has gone through PayPal (I've been having some PayPal related weirdness, too, ack) but I still haven't recieved a CnS. Just out of curiousity, how long do they usually take to come through? (Or is Y!Mail still playing up? )

    Wrath

In the bottle: it smells sweetish and warm (and it loosk so pretty, being the pale red it is!) I can definitely detect cinnamon, but the Dragon's Blood isn't overpowering. On me? Wow. This isn't what I expected at all for a scent called Wrath-- it's positively pretty and ultra-feminine on me. That said, I love it: nothing dominates to the detriment of anything else, and there's a sweet light floralness to it which just makes it so... benign-smelling. It reminds me of French Love-- the same redness of the oil and the same sweetness with the waft of florals running through it. The major difference here seems to be that it doesn't quite have that warmed honey smell French Love has on me, and it's spicier. This is yummy!
