  1. There was a little leakage in this package, which ruined the labels of my two CT bottles. One was completely rubbed off so I'm just calling it "Mystery Dorian CT" for now.

    Mystery Dorian CT:

In the bottle this smells like deep, resinous, gritty myrrh. That's it... no other notes. On my skin it smells the same at first, but after a few minutes it becomes even grittier and more dirt-like. I would say it's a combo of myrrh and patchouli, since bpal patchouli turns to pure dirt on me. VERY lightly in the background lingers Dorian's tea note

XXI (I think... this one's numbers were mostly rubbed out, but I'm pretty sure that's what it said)

In the bottle, this smells like powdery and slightly herbal orange plus a background of Dorian. It's slightly creamy and powdery at the same time.

On my skin, the orange gets less herbal and blends more into the powdery vanilla note. Underneath that is pretty strong Dorian, creamy and lovely. The Dorian base is very obvious in this one.

After it sits on my skin a while, the orange and powderiness fades and the Dorian gets a little stronger.

  2. In bottle/imp: White flowers with a touch of warmth and a hint of lemon.

Immediately on skin: This smells like white, soapy flowers on my skin and actually makes my nose tickle a little bit. There’s a little bit of lemon and peach in this, but mostly it’s just white flowery soap.

After a little while: This really doesn’t change much on my skin, except that the lemon comes out a little bit more. It smells like white flowery soap with just a bit of lemon and a tiny breath of peach. It’s very clean and airy.

Overall Impressions: I was expecting this scent to be a much more complex scent, but it’s rather drab on me and makes my nose tickle. It’s very soapy smelling on my skin with white flowers and a little lemon and peach. I don’t get any sandalwood or musks at all.

  3. XLVI (46)

In the bottle, this smells like geranium to me with a touch of tea. Wet on my skin, this is very much a geranium scent. Did I mention that I don't really like geranium? Behind that is a lovely freshness though, like lemon tea, so I think this may be light on the Dorian with geranium and some extra lemon.

This doesn’t change much as I wear it after a while… lots of geranium and lemon, with a little bit of tea. It’s very bright and fresh smelling with just a little Dorian.

    CCVI (206)

In the bottle this smells like lime and musky, powdery sugar. Immediately on my skin I get a lot of lime, plus herbs and a light amount of Dorian. This might have a little extra lavender in it as it smells a lot like lime plus Lilith Victoria on me, minus the Snake Oil. It has that herbal citronella-like combo that I get from LV.

After a while this loses just about all the lime, and the herbal note fades a little, blended very well with the Dorian notes. I thought it was lavender, but now I think what I've been smelling is almost herbal orchid. The orchid note is dry, however, and not very sweet. The Dorian is just in the background of the scent.

  4. Honeysuckle is my favorite floral fragrance of all time. But I have a stupid question... does the version of the honeysuckle plant from the southern US smell different from the one in the northern US? I ask because I have ever only been able to find one perfume that smells like the honeysuckle that blooms up here in CT, and that's Demeter's Honeysuckle perfume. The lab blends and other companies' scents smell... different. I don't know how to explain it, but it just doesn't smell like honeysuckle to me :( And I notice that there's always connections made between the south and honeysuckle, so I wasn't sure if it was any different.

  5. In bottle/imp: Creamy tropical fruitiness with a bit of crisp apple.

Immediately on skin: This smells fruity, bright and sweet. There’s a definite bite of crisp green apple as well as hints of more tropical guava and passionfruit. The main floral note I get in this is the sweet pea, which always smells happy and sweet on me. But there’s also a hint of carnation that reminds me of the carnation note in Pink Moon 07; it’s almost “sugared” by the other notes, as opposed to spicy like in a lot of other blends. This is sort of a creamy scent, but it’s more bright and fruity than anything.

After a little while: As this fade, it gets more fruity and sweet. I’m left with a mix of apple, generic fruit, and sweet pea on my skin. It’s not unpleasant, but it’s rather sweet for me.

Overall Impressions: Out of all of the notes, the only one I don’t love is the apple. Sure enough, that was the strongest note on me! The other fruits and sweet pea make themselves known, but mostly this is a very pretty, sweet apple, sweet pea, and tropical fruit fragrance.

  6. In bottle/imp: Creamy, slighty tangy, fruity roses.

Immediately on skin: This is SO PRETTY. It’s tangy and slightly fruity almost. There’s the roses, but they really serve as the base of this scent. Blending in is the vanilla tea, violety orris and coconut.

After a little while: This is fruity, creamy, bright rose with a nice smooth feel to it overall. The orris and vanilla tea really combine beautifully with the rose buds.

Overall Impressions: Out of the two roses, this is my favorite. It’s bright but smooth with a nice hint of rose with the creamy vanilla tea and almost fruity orris. I can sense the coconut, but it’s not a main note at all.

  7. In bottle/imp: Bitter, herbal roses with a spicy undertone.

Immediately on skin: This scent smells odd, but it’s intriguing. It’s slightly bitter and herbal but it has this light spice I like, and an interesting rose note. It’s not really overly sweet or spicy.

After a little while: This has become a deep, resinous gently spiced rose now. It’s pretty, and the herbal bitter feel has faded. It’s musky and smooth and just smells deep and dark.

Overall Impressions: This is my less favorite of the two roses, but it’s still nice. It’s an understated rose with lots of other things going on. The tonka really rounds out the scent nicely while the clove and musk give this a warmer feel. It’s interesting and very pretty.

  8. In bottle/imp: Super coconut and some creamy white chocolate in the background.

Immediately on skin: The coconut in this is the main note with the softness of marshmallow and white chocolate in the background. This doesn’t smell very sweet to me… the coconut smells almost like the note in Spooky. This kind of smells like coconut scented cardboard on me.

After a little while: The coconut fades a little, but other than that this scent doesn’t change much.

Overall Impressions: This scent just doesn’t work on my skin unfortunately. It’s not really sweet, and has the same coconut note from Creepy which unfortunately smells like coconut scented cardboard on me. This is dry and slightly creamy, but disappointing.

  9. In bottle/imp: Powdery white chocolate and fruity violets.

Immediately on skin: This smells like the same violet as Faith: sweet, candied, and a bit fruity. There’s also the white chocolate note, which is kind of creamy and kind of powdery at the same time. It smells a little “off” however.

After a little while: The white chocolate note in this gets a little stronger, but other than that this blend doesn’t change much.

Overall Impressions: This unfortunately doesn’t work on me. The violet is fruity and the white chocolate note isn’t very sweet and has an odd powderiness to it.

  10. In bottle/imp: Cherry blossoms with this creamy, slightly spicy soft green overtone.

Immediately on skin: This smells so unique and just darn pretty. It’s a mix of the three notes, but they blend together very smoothly. This blend smells of cherry blossoms overlaid by this soft green creaminess that has almost a touch of spice.

After a little while: The cherry blossom note fades a bit, but the moss and vanilla musk combo are still going strong. Maybe strong is the wrong word, as this is such a delicate, poofy fragrance. It’s mostly green, creamy, and musky with a hint of sweet florals.

Overall Impressions: This is so simple yet beautifully blended. The moss, vanilla musk and cherry blossoms mix together to form this feminine, delicate creamy pink cloud that isn’t overly floral or sweet.

  11. In bottle/imp: Mostly pink pepper, but also a little rose to sort of water it down.

Immediately on skin: Wow, there’s a ton of pink pepper in this. That’s the first note I smell and it’s this girly, fruity peppery scent. There’s also a large dose of rose which adds this watered down flowery feel to the pink pepper.

After a little while: After a few minutes, this gets very soapy on me. It’s a mix of rose mainly with hints of the pink pepper and red berries. But mostly, soap.

Overall Impressions: This scent was a huge disappointment. In the bottle, it smells of almost pure pink pepper, but as I wear it the rose takes over and it becomes very soapy. I’ll keep my decant because I might want to use it in a scent locket, but otherwise I don’t think I’ll wear it much.

  12. In bottle/imp: Leather and smooth, creamy fruit.

Immediately on skin: This is a very smooth, well-blended scent. Sniffing it I immediately get leather, but it’s blended with a bit of sweet wine and very smooth fruity notes. It’s got a nice brightness to it, but also a smooth finish and a nice grounded leather note.

After a little while: As this settles, it becomes much more of a fruity scent. The berry, fig, cream, and a bit of cognac blended together become the main part of this scent with the leather in the background and the smell of the paper bag adding a whimsical touch. It’s fruity, but the leather note strikes me as a little bitter or acrid.

Overall Impressions: This is right on the verge of being great on me, but the leather note smells a little bitter on my skin. The other notes blend together beautifully and this is mostly a smooth, creamy fruit scent. Too bad about the leather.

  13. In bottle/imp: Fruity, alcohol-laden sake.

Immediately on skin: The main note in this is the sake, which I recognize from Men Ringing Bell with Penises and the Lantern Ghose of Oiwa. It’s a fresh alcohol smell with almost a citrusy twinge. Right now, that note is taking up most of the scent, though I do get a slight dryness in the background as well.

After a little while: This seems to get a bit fruitier, though the sake still hits me hard as the main note in this. It’s alcoholic, slightly clean and citrusy, and has a candy-like bit of apricot added to it now. There’s still a dry finish from the wood, but it isn’t an obvious note.

Overall Impressions: I was hoping for a bit more apricot and wood from this, but it’s mostly sake plus hints of those other notes. It’s pretty and seems like a very fresh, bright scent, but the alcohol comes through a bit too much for me.

  14. In bottle/imp: Wine and plum with a little bit of dry sandalwood.

Immediately on skin: This is strong, sweet wine and plum. It smells very red and fruity. I can smell a little of the champaca as well, but to me that note is a very purple, thick floral so it gets lost among the other notes.

After a little while: The fruitiness dies down a lot and the sandalwood seems to be poking its head out a bit more as this dries on my skin. It’s still a very wine and plum dominated scent, but the dry sandalwood adds a little earthy warmth to the blend. The champaca is just a touch floral, but still blends in mostly with the wine and plum.

Overall Impressions: This blend is dominated mostly by the wine and plum, but I can’t say I’m surprised. I just wish the sandalwood and champaca came out a little more. This is still nice, and if you like wine scents TRY IT! Otherwise, if you’re a little wary about how overpowering the wine and plum are, this might not work on you. It’s pretty, but very strong and fruity.

  15. In bottle/imp: Plum and vanilla cream with the grainy scent of the rice.

Immediately on skin: This reminds me so much of a specific dessert, but I can’t put my finger on it. Daifuku, perhaps? I’m not sure at the moment though. Anyway, the main note in this is plum, which is a favorite of mine. Blending with that is this almost toasted vanilla rice scent. It’s creamy, but has a slight bite to it. The note that’s triggering this actually reminds me a lot of Possets’ Madame X scent.

After a little while: As this dried, the plum got less and less overwhelming and is nicely blended with that vanilla and rice mixture. This is fruity, creamy, warm, and toasted with a very unique feel to it.

Overall Impressions: I really really like this scent. It reminds me of something, but I can’t think of what. Well, at least the vanilla and rice part of this scent does (not so much the plum). This scent is fruity, creamy, and has a nice grainy bite to it. I don’t know how else to explain it. It smells yummy, but not overly foody. It’s very interesting and unique for sure, though the vanilla and rice in this reminds me of Possets’ Madame X scent.

  16. In bottle/imp: Powdery, creamy amber and a hint of flowers.

Immediately on skin: This amber is very powdery on me and slightly plasticy. There’s just the lightest hint of soft orange blossom in the background.

After a little while: This is a very pretty, soft, creamy blend. The vanilla amber is both creamy and powdery but warm, and there’s just a touch of the orange blossom.

Overall Impressions: It’s odd, but I can’t decide if I like this scent. It’s warm and creamy but slightly powdery and almost smells of plastic, but not quite. There’s a touch of the orange blossom but mostly this is a creamy amber scent. It smells almost lightly spiced, too.

  17. In bottle/imp: Very golden and glowing with hints of spice.

Immediately on skin: This is a muted spice scent. The floral notes are in the front, adding their tangy and slightly green scents. Lying over the whole scent are the amber incense and sandalwood, giving this a very golden feel. This is dry and warm.

After a little while: The sandalwood seems to become the dominating note here after just a few minutes. It’s very warm and dry, and the amber incense and flowers linger behind it. This isn’t especially creamy or spicy; it’s more just glowing, golden, and warm.

Overall Impressions: This is a quiet, golden scent. It clings close to the skin and wafts very gently. This isn’t something you’d wear if you wanted everyone to know you were wearing perfume, but it is something for close contact or if you were wearing it just for yourself. The cinnamon in this is very light, as is the vanilla. The sandalwood really takes center stage and the chrysanthemum and marigold give it a nice body. Overall, very pretty but not a “me” scent.

  18. In bottle/imp: Citrus and a very strong perfumey note.

Immediately on skin: This is citrusy and perfumey, but it’s not a very sweet scent at all. The ambergris is very strong in this and adds a salty musk quality which the citrus and floral notes sort of waft around.

After a little while: This smells odd on me. It’s sort of bitter and smells like a pencil eraser with hints of citrus.

Overall Impressions: This smells bitter and musky on me which I think is the ambergris, with the other notes trying to make their scents known. It’s a mish-mash on my skin and doesn’t smell balanced or unified. But since I’m not a big fan of ambergris, I’m not surprised.

  19. In bottle/imp: Lots of oakmoss with hints of white musk and coconut.

Immediately on skin: This is very strong on the oakmoss with a bit of creaminess underneath and and a bite of citrusy white musk. There’s hardly any coconut but it’s there behind the green coolness of the oakmoss.

After a little while: The white musk gets stronger as this dries and this becomes almost a lemony white musk scent with a bit of oakmoss and hint of coconut. It’s a very bright scent.

Overall Impressions: I was expecting a lot more coconut from this than I actually got. This is a nice scent, and quite unisex in my opinion. The white musk and oakmoss take center stage and the other notes sort of just linger quietly in the background. This has a nice bite to it that I like, but I don’t think I’d wear it much.

  20. I posted this in the BPAL question free for all...nobody has responded yet so I'm gonna try here :)

    Anyway...

Water of Notre Dame. It used to be blue, right? The actual oil used to have a blue tint to it....or am I crazy? I just received a frimp from the Lab recently and the oil color appears to be a light, golden color now. It smells similar....but....I dunno, I'm confused. Anyone order an imp or bottle of this recently, any Water of Notre Dame fans out there? I owned a bottle of this a couple years ago and I swear it used to be blue! Or, maybe it's just a case of a mislabled imp? I swear the oil color was blue!

I've gotten several frimps of Water of Notre Dame since I started buying bpal in 2007 and the ones I've received have been a golden yellowy color.

  21. If the post office knows where it was, then they should be able to track it down. I'd go back to them and make noise until they figure out where the hell they put it.

I agree with this... the post office has admitted to "misplacing" it, so I think she should go back there and see if they have any luck. Reenah also make sure she tells the PO that it's a priority box with orange tape. That's a good identifying feature of the lab's packages, and has helped me with getting misplaced packages at my local PO found quickly.

  22. In bottle/imp: Wood and licorice?

Immediately on skin: This is very woody (duh) with something resinous, syrupy and sweet added to it. I’m thinking probably the clove and walnut together, but I’m not sure.

After a little while: This morphs into the scent of a wooden incense box with smoke wafting out of it. It’s warm, woody, smoky, and slightly resinous with a deep but subtle sweetness.

Overall Impressions: This starts out as rather resinous and sweet with some evident wood notes, but it really morphs into a gorgeous wood and incense scent. It’s deep and rich, and just a touch smoky too.

  23. In bottle/imp: Salty soap.

Immediately on skin: All I really get from this is soapy salt water and a touch of light florals. It’s not very complex on my skin.

After a little while: This gets a little depth to it as I wear it; the frankincense comes out just a touch and there’s a glowing resinous note far behind the salty water. The floral part of this is light, but it gives it a slight perfuminess.

Overall Impressions: This scent will be much loved by those who like salty aquatics I think, though it doesn’t have much complexity to my nose. I think the salt water amped up a bit and I lost just about everything else besides some light far away florals and a touch of resin after a while.
