    Croquet

In bottle/imp: Bright citrus with sweet, playful floral undertones. Immediately on skin: This is a bright scent, and at first I get quite a bit of citrus. The lime comes to the front and as that settles into my nose I get a mix of nectarine, rose, and bergamot which somehow manage to smell like fruity and flowery candy when all mixed together. At the base is a hint of patchouli, which doesn’t dirty up the whole blend but instead gives it a solid stage to play about on. After a little while: The high citrus note in this settles down pretty quickly and this becomes a slightly cologney/fruity/floral unisex scent. It’s not overly sweet and actually reminds me a little of oakmoss. The citrus is present, but blends nicely into the sweeter nectarine and rose. The bergamot comes forward quite a bit though and is probably is what is giving this that cologne type of feel. There is also a nice musk and patchouli finish that is very subtle, but melds everything together. Overall Impressions: This scent was a very pleasant surprise. I don’t know if I’d actually wear it, but all the notes come together in a seamless way that creates this blend that’s rather unisex, but still bright, fruity, and floral. It’s actually rather subtle on me, but happy. I’ll have to give this another wear to see if it’s bottle worthy, but I can see wearing it on days where I need a pick-me-up.

    Bess

In bottle/imp: Grapes and rose, with a hint of the rosemary. Very odd. Immediately on skin: This is a weird scent. It’s like herbal grapey roses with mint. I know you could basically get that from the note listing but it’s hard to describe. It’s like fruity and herbal, smooth, with a cool, plasticy finish. After a little while: The grape fades into the background and this becomes more of an herbal rose scent. It’s smooth, but plasticy and somewhat sweet. The mint isn’t really obvious but this has a cooler feel to it. It’s very well blended, too. Overall Impressions: This scent is unusual. The notes blend together, but it’s hard to describe. It’s sort of floral, herbal, fruity, and cool all at the same time. It has a slightly woodiness to it and a hint of plastic too. I don’t really like this, but I don’t hate it. It’s just odd.

    Absinthe

In bottle/imp: Herbal, minty, and citrus-y all at the same time. Immediately on skin: This smells minty with a touch of citrus and some very smooth herbs and spices. The mint hits me first, but it’s so smooth and not astringent at all. After just a moment of sniffing, the lemon comes out a bit more. After a little while: The anise comes forward, and the mint, lemon, and spices fall into the background. This is sort of a fresh but potent anise scent now, with the other notes just adding a little extra body. Overall Impressions: I was intrigued by the scent at first, but the amount of anise that came out ruined it for me. It was nice to try however, and has an interesting unisex feel to it.

    Velvet Cthulhu

In bottle/imp: Sharp, bitter, herbal, and fresh green notes all smushed together. Immediately on skin: This smells like snapped green stems, herbs, and a touch of vetiver. It’s very green with a bit of a clean and herbal feel to it. This blend is very strong and I can really feel it in my nose as I smell it. After a little while: This scent definitely calms down a bit on my skin. It becomes this clean, green scent with hints of coriander and tea. It’s not sweet, but it’s lost the bitterness and most of the herbal feel it had at first. Overall Impressions: This scent is very green. The tea doesn’t really come out until the dry down, but mostly this is a green stem and herbal scent with a very strong clean feel to it. It’s very fresh and seems to be more of a unisex scent to me.

    Motley

In bottle/imp: Tangy fruity sweetness and something cloying and earthy. Immediately on skin: This is an odd scent. As I sniff it, I get black currant and rhubarb at first (tangy and fruity), but then the base is dirty, cloying mushrooms. This isn’t working on me at all. After a little while: The mushroom note fades a bit as I wear this and it becomes a sweet tart fruit scent with a light background of deep myrrh as time goes on. There’s still a bit of the mushroom though, and it’s quite cloying to my nose. Overall Impressions: This is odd. I didn’t expect the mushroom note to smell like actual mushroom, but it does. The currant and rhubarb are bright and fruity in this, but I can’t get over the cloying mushroom.
  7. Delirium1009

    Marotte

In bottle/imp: Pear plus a very deep rich amber perfumey scent that smells like Opium (the brand of perfume, not the drug). Immediately on skin: This smells so perfumey as soon as it’s on my skin. The pear virtually disappears and it’s all amber-y and dark. I can smell the amber, musk and mahogany all mixed together, plus a touch of oakmoss. After a little while: This gets a little lighter as it dries down, but it still stays very perfumey on me. The top of this blend features a hint of pear and some oakmoss, and the base is rich and dark with a lot of amber, dark wood, and musk. I don’t really get the patchouli though. Overall Impressions: This is a darker blend than I was expecting but looking at the notes I shouldn’t be surprised. This blend has a really rich, deep, perfumey base to it with a lot of amber, dark mahogany and musk with top notes of pear and oakmoss slightly blending in. This has an overall dark feel to it, but I can kind of feel a sparkling tone in my nose. This is very pretty, but not for me.

    Coxcomb

In bottle/imp: Warm, fruity incensed musk. Immediately on skin: This smells like fruity, warm, powdery musk with a very resinous undertone. It’s a bit on the sweet side, but the musk really grounds the scent. The sage is present, but really blends nicely into the other notes. It’s really nicely blended overall, but I can still pick out each note individually. After a little while: This becomes a little more resinous as time goes by. It’s musky, but also slightly sweet and fruity with a nice heavy dose of frankincense. This blend also has just a hint of powderiness to it. Overall Impressions: This is pretty, but it’s not OMG fantastic on me. It’s a musky, fruity, resinous scent with a sweet powdery feel to it. I can smell each of the notes, but they blend together very well. This is a very adult, sultry, perfumey type of scent.

    Velvet Unicorn

In bottle/imp: Strawberry ice cream and lime cotton candy. Immediately on skin: This scent mostly reminds me of the smell of freeze-dried strawberry ice cream. I love that “astronaut ice cream” stuff and this smells powdery and creamy with a splash of strawberry. Behind that I get what smells like lime cotton candy, and vanilla meringues. This is so sweet, fruity, creamy, and powdery… it’s just a totally fun scent. After a little while: As this dries, the other fruits seem to fade and I’m left with poofy, creamy, powdery, sugary strawberry with just a hint of generic fruity hard candies. Overall Impressions: This is an awesome fun, poofy, sugary scent. The strawberry is the strongest note to my nose, but it’s combined with all these fun candy notes that just create a cavity-inducing, fun perfume.
  10. Delirium1009

    Velvet Nudie

In bottle/imp: Very clean floral with almost a hint of citrus. Immediately on skin: This smells very clean, but it’s not sharp. It’s almost like someone washed with some lemon floral soap, and this is the scent of their clean just-washed skin. It’s warm and intimate, but fresh and slightly perfumed at the same time. After a little while: This stays very soft and doesn’t seem to have much of a throw. It smells almost exactly the same as when I first applied it, except it’s a little less floral/citrus-y now. It’s soft, warm, and clean. Overall Impressions: I was expecting something a little bit muskier and maybe more sugared from this, but it’s a pretty scent nonetheless. It’s a soft, clean, warm and slightly perfumed skin scent. It doesn’t smell overly clean, or musky, or floral, though. It’s very well balanced and just very nude and pretty.

    Velvet Clown

In bottle/imp: Red liquorice with a bit of smoke and a lot of booziness. Immediately on skin: Booze. And candy. Candy and booze. Yeah. This really does smell like rum poured over a whole lot of red licorice, cotton candy and circus peanuts with marshmallows being roasted somewhere close. This is a thick, sticky, sweet and boozy scent with a bit of smoke in the background. After a little while: This dries down into a slightly less thick boozy candy scent… I think now it’s more about the corn whiskey than it is the rum. I still smell the red licorice and circus peanuts, as well as a charred scent from the scorched marshmallows. Underneath that is a very thick scent which is probably the greasepaint. Overall Impressions: This is like happy childhood memories gone wrong, which I guess is what it is supposed to be. There’s a lot of candy in this including a lot of red licorice and those orange circus peanuts, as well as hints of sticky cotton candy and marshmallows. Mixed into that though is a lot of rich booze (especially at first), a smokey, scorched scent from the marshmallows, and this thick undertone of greasepaint. Very interesting and complex, this scent is like being lost at night in the deep recesses of a circus.

    Velvet Bandito

In bottle/imp: Thick, syrupy sweet clove with a little bit of cedar and tobacco in the background. Immediately on skin: This smells like an odd cola/clove concoction. It has a spiciness, as well as woodiness, but also the sweet tobacco. It’s very rich and thick smelling, but also quite sweet. I think the clove I’m getting is a combo of the cedar, tobacco, and dust. It’s very interesting. After a little while: This turns even sweeter on me as I wear it. It smells like syrupy, spiced tobacco with a hint of dry woodiness. Overall Impressions: This is much less complex on me than I was expecting, and a lot sweeter as well. It smells a little like clove, but more like syrupy sweet spiced tobacco than anything. The cedar is barely there, but it’s noticeable, and the dust is more of an overtone that I can feel in my nose as opposed to smell. This blend is very interesting and very thick smelling, but not very complex to my nose.

    Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self-Similarity v1

There was a little leakage in this package, which ruined the labels of my two CT bottles. One was completely rubbed off so I'm just calling it "Mystery Dorian CT" for now. Mystery Dorian CT: In the bottle this smells like deep, resinous, gritty myrrh. That's it... no other notes. On my skin it smells the same at first, but after a few minutes it becomes even grittier and more dirt-like. I would say it's a combo of myrrh and patchouli, since bpal patchouli turns to pure dirt on me. VERY lightly in the background lingers Dorian's tea note XXI (I think... this one's numbers were mostly rubbed out, but I'm pretty sure that's what it said) In the bottle, this smells like powdery and slightly herbal orange plus a background of Dorian. It's slightly creamy and powdery at the same time. On my skin, the orange gets less herbal and blends more into the powdery vanilla note. Underneath that is pretty strong Dorian, creamy and lovely. The Dorian base is very obvious in this one. After it sits on my skin a while, the orange and powderiness fades and the Dorian gets a little stronger.

    The Zieba Tree

In bottle/imp: White flowers with a touch of warmth and a hint of lemon. Immediately on skin: This smells like white, soapy flowers on my skin and actually makes my nose tickle a little bit. There’s a little bit of lemon and peach in this, but mostly it’s just white flowery soap. After a little while: This really doesn’t change much on my skin, except that the lemon comes out a little bit more. It smells like white flowery soap with just a bit of lemon and a tiny breath of peach. It’s very clean and airy. Overall Impressions: I was expecting this scent to be a much more complex scent, but it’s rather drab on me and makes my nose tickle. It’s very soapy smelling on my skin with white flowers and a little lemon and peach. I don’t get any sandalwood or musks at all.

XLVI (46) In the bottle, this smells like geranium to me with a touch of tea. Wet on my skin, this is very much a geranium scent. Did I mention that I don't really like geranium? Behind that is a lovely freshness though, like lemon tea, so I think this may be light on the Dorian with geranium and some extra lemon. This doesn’t change much as I wear it after a while… lots of geranium and lemon, with a little bit of tea. It’s very bright and fresh smelling with just a little Dorian. CCVI (206) In the bottle this smells like lime and musky, powdery sugar. Immediately on my skin I get a lot of lime, plus herbs and a light amount of Dorian. This might have a little extra lavender in it as it smells a lot like lime plus Lilith Victoria on me, minus the Snake Oil. It has that herbal citronella-like combo that I get from LV. After a while this loses just about all the lime, and the herbal note fades a little, blended very well with the Dorian notes. I thought it was lavender, but now I think what I've been smelling is almost herbal orchid. The orchid note is dry, however, and not very sweet. The Dorian is just in the background of the scent.

    Honeysuckle blends

Honeysuckle is my favorite floral fragrance of all time. But I have a stupid question... does the version of the honeysuckle plant from the southern US smell different from the one in the northern US? I ask because I have ever only been able to find one perfume that smells like the honeysuckle that blooms up here in CT, and that's Demeter's Honeysuckle perfume. The lab blends and other companies' scents smell... different. I don't know how to explain it, but it just doesn't smell like honeysuckle to me And I notice that there's always connections made between the south and honeysuckle, so I wasn't sure if it was any different.

    Agapē

In bottle/imp: Creamy tropical fruitiness with a bit of crisp apple. Immediately on skin: This smells fruity, bright and sweet. There’s a definite bite of crisp green apple as well as hints of more tropical guava and passionfruit. The main floral note I get in this is the sweet pea, which always smells happy and sweet on me. But there’s also a hint of carnation that reminds me of the carnation note in Pink Moon 07; it’s almost “sugared” by the other notes, as opposed to spicy like in a lot of other blends. This is sort of a creamy scent, but it’s more bright and fruity than anything. After a little while: As this fade, it gets more fruity and sweet. I’m left with a mix of apple, generic fruit, and sweet pea on my skin. It’s not unpleasant, but it’s rather sweet for me. Overall Impressions: Out of all of the notes, the only one I don’t love is the apple. Sure enough, that was the strongest note on me! The other fruits and sweet pea make themselves known, but mostly this is a very pretty, sweet apple, sweet pea, and tropical fruit fragrance.

    White Rose

In bottle/imp: Creamy, slighty tangy, fruity roses. Immediately on skin: This is SO PRETTY. It’s tangy and slightly fruity almost. There’s the roses, but they really serve as the base of this scent. Blending in is the vanilla tea, violety orris and coconut. After a little while: This is fruity, creamy, bright rose with a nice smooth feel to it overall. The orris and vanilla tea really combine beautifully with the rose buds. Overall Impressions: Out of the two roses, this is my favorite. It’s bright but smooth with a nice hint of rose with the creamy vanilla tea and almost fruity orris. I can sense the coconut, but it’s not a main note at all.
  19. Delirium1009

    Red Rose

In bottle/imp: Bitter, herbal roses with a spicy undertone. Immediately on skin: This scent smells odd, but it’s intriguing. It’s slightly bitter and herbal but it has this light spice I like, and an interesting rose note. It’s not really overly sweet or spicy. After a little while: This has become a deep, resinous gently spiced rose now. It’s pretty, and the herbal bitter feel has faded. It’s musky and smooth and just smells deep and dark. Overall Impressions: This is my less favorite of the two roses, but it’s still nice. It’s an understated rose with lots of other things going on. The tonka really rounds out the scent nicely while the clove and musk give this a warmer feel. It’s interesting and very pretty.
  20. Delirium1009

    White Chocolate, Marshmallow, and Coconut

In bottle/imp: Super coconut and some creamy white chocolate in the background. Immediately on skin: The coconut in this is the main note with the softness of marshmallow and white chocolate in the background. This doesn’t smell very sweet to me… the coconut smells almost like the note in Spooky. This kind of smells like coconut scented cardboard on me. After a little while: The coconut fades a little, but other than that this scent doesn’t change much. Overall Impressions: This scent just doesn’t work on my skin unfortunately. It’s not really sweet, and has the same coconut note from Creepy which unfortunately smells like coconut scented cardboard on me. This is dry and slightly creamy, but disappointing.
  21. Delirium1009

    White Chocolate and Sugared Violets

In bottle/imp: Powdery white chocolate and fruity violets. Immediately on skin: This smells like the same violet as Faith: sweet, candied, and a bit fruity. There’s also the white chocolate note, which is kind of creamy and kind of powdery at the same time. It smells a little “off” however. After a little while: The white chocolate note in this gets a little stronger, but other than that this blend doesn’t change much. Overall Impressions: This unfortunately doesn’t work on me. The violet is fruity and the white chocolate note isn’t very sweet and has an odd powderiness to it.
  22. Delirium1009

    Voyeurs Among the Cherry Blossoms

In bottle/imp: Cherry blossoms with this creamy, slightly spicy soft green overtone. Immediately on skin: This smells so unique and just darn pretty. It’s a mix of the three notes, but they blend together very smoothly. This blend smells of cherry blossoms overlaid by this soft green creaminess that has almost a touch of spice. After a little while: The cherry blossom note fades a bit, but the moss and vanilla musk combo are still going strong. Maybe strong is the wrong word, as this is such a delicate, poofy fragrance. It’s mostly green, creamy, and musky with a hint of sweet florals. Overall Impressions: This is so simple yet beautifully blended. The moss, vanilla musk and cherry blossoms mix together to form this feminine, delicate creamy pink cloud that isn’t overly floral or sweet.
  23. Delirium1009

    Pothôn Mêtêr

In bottle/imp: Mostly pink pepper, but also a little rose to sort of water it down. Immediately on skin: Wow, there’s a ton of pink pepper in this. That’s the first note I smell and it’s this girly, fruity peppery scent. There’s also a large dose of rose which adds this watered down flowery feel to the pink pepper. After a little while: After a few minutes, this gets very soapy on me. It’s a mix of rose mainly with hints of the pink pepper and red berries. But mostly, soap. Overall Impressions: This scent was a huge disappointment. In the bottle, it smells of almost pure pink pepper, but as I wear it the rose takes over and it becomes very soapy. I’ll keep my decant because I might want to use it in a scent locket, but otherwise I don’t think I’ll wear it much.
  24. Delirium1009

    413 U.S. 15 / Miller Vs. California

In bottle/imp: Leather and smooth, creamy fruit. Immediately on skin: This is a very smooth, well-blended scent. Sniffing it I immediately get leather, but it’s blended with a bit of sweet wine and very smooth fruity notes. It’s got a nice brightness to it, but also a smooth finish and a nice grounded leather note. After a little while: As this settles, it becomes much more of a fruity scent. The berry, fig, cream, and a bit of cognac blended together become the main part of this scent with the leather in the background and the smell of the paper bag adding a whimsical touch. It’s fruity, but the leather note strikes me as a little bitter or acrid. Overall Impressions: This is right on the verge of being great on me, but the leather note smells a little bitter on my skin. The other notes blend together beautifully and this is mostly a smooth, creamy fruit scent. Too bad about the leather.
  25. In bottle/imp: Fruity, alcohol-laden sake. Immediately on skin: The main note in this is the sake, which I recognize from Men Ringing Bell with Penises and the Lantern Ghose of Oiwa. It’s a fresh alcohol smell with almost a citrusy twinge. Right now, that note is taking up most of the scent, though I do get a slight dryness in the background as well. After a little while: This seems to get a bit fruitier, though the sake still hits me hard as the main note in this. It’s alcoholic, slightly clean and citrusy, and has a candy-like bit of apricot added to it now. There’s still a dry finish from the wood, but it isn’t an obvious note. Overall Impressions: I was hoping for a bit more apricot and wood from this, but it’s mostly sake plus hints of those other notes. It’s pretty and seems like a very fresh, bright scent, but the alcohol comes through a bit too much for me.
