Would have been beautiful, minus the Bliss. I just get too much milk chocolate, like a Hershey bar left in the car melted in the hot sun and soaked into the black leather seats. I will keep it to possibly mix with another imp (maybe something musky?) to see if I can frankenfix it to dilute it out.

Testing a sample over 2 years later, none of the light fizz that others have described has faded! One hour in the fizz has faded and the scent morphs from raspberry seltzer into a berry scented pipe tobacco. Worth waiting for it to bloom as it gets better and better as it settles into your skin.

Very creamy, milky, and, to my nose, a bit soapy - reminds me of one of the lotions I tried as a kid in the Cracker Barrel gift store. Thankfully no notable black pepper, which my skin tends to amp.

YES. Fierce, powerful, industrial. The soot and smoke come to play in the best possible way. If this came in a beard oil I'd be leaving it in the bathroom cabinet for gentlemen guests to slather themselves in the next morning. A scent to wear to an early 20th century power lunch where you're negotiating a railroad contract.

A grassy lily above all else! I had to wait an hour after application to detect the dragon's blood resin, and even then it was quite subtly there. The black plum is more concentrated, like juice, almost, rather than something fleshy. I like it!

Sun warmed pungency, almost fermented. This gets nicer as it dries down into something softer. Cream of Wheat vibes.

Blergh! Wet, I smell the velvet, the clove, and something approximating industrial solvent, like someone left the lid off the can of paint thinner in the back room of the hardware store. On skin, plum scented paint thinner. Not for me!

Waxy apple blossoms with a hint of vanilla'd milk. There is a freshness to the butter that gives it a grassfed impression. No yeast or sour lactonic note. Just a bit of powder on the dry down. Lovely to enjoy as a sample, but not something I would grab often on a regular basis.

"Something wicked this way comes" is exactly how I feel when putting this on. Aged a few years, it seems like a hint of clove has pushed it's way front and center in the spice profile, to magical effect. Quite possibly the most perfect autumnal BPAL I've tried so far. This is a fall day spent giving hayrides and serving pie to the grandchildren, before shuffling them off to a sun soaked sandalwood slumber.

Swampy stank when wet in the bottle, this duet requires a leap of BPAL faith to apply to the skin, where it completely transforms. The vetiver dominates, peppery, pine-y and bark-like, with just a hint of a berry underneath. "Moody" is a great way to describe this scent. I feel like a witch living under boughs of lichen covered branches, stirring a cauldron of hand gathered forest berries to make a dye for my winter shawl.

I originally passed this over amidst a crowded field of Yules this past year. I am so glad I got to try it before it came down! Greater than the sum of its parts, this smells like red fruits (strawberry, raspberry and maybe plum?) mixed with a decently thick musk. Thankfully, no pepper is present here, and the honey is a trickle instead of a glob. Very warm, fragrant and wearable, with moderately strong projection.

This is really nice! Maybe because it is now very aged, I don't get any candy-like top note. Wet and dry it is a really pretty sandalwood vetiver blend, blissfully pencil shavings free. Sits close to the skin and fades a bit more quickly than I would prefer, but I like it a lot.

Eternal, unwavering loyalty: coconut milk, lavender buds, vanilla bean, white sandalwood, and hazelnut. Very floral coconut milk when applied wet, with a spicy hazelnut underneath. I don't get any lavender at all, unfortunately. This has moderate to strong throw and really great longevity (8 hours in I still get a whiff every time I move my arm). I did not enjoy how flowery it was when wet but liked the dry down a bit more. Well executed and suited particularly for a cold, raw day when you want to pretend you are on a sunny beach somewhere in a sarong, sipping on a something in a coconut.

What a warm, lovely scent! Honey can be difficult to wear in summer, but the dust keeps it from being too sweet. I swear I detect a hint of orange blossom in the dry down, even though this note is not listed. The sandalwood is just barely there. Agree with others who said this is perfect for a date, or really any situation where you want to smell nice in an unobtrusive way. Low medium throw and lasts about 6 hours before starting to fade.

Boney Moon: Spiced Chestnut and Honey
SmellsPrettyGood2Me replied to doomsday_disco's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
This smells borderline aldehydelic in the bottle, as though there is a tiny splash of something sparkling or carbonated within. That note persists when wet on skin, really brightening up the honey from being too dark or sticky. There really is a bit of an herbal note - sage, maybe? - and the chestnut is not at all toasted, but does smell a bit citrus candided. Evokes strong Thanksgiving/winter holiday vibes moreso than spring. Buy it now and save it for fall!- 3 replies

L’Homme Fut Solitaire Dans un Paysage de Nuit
SmellsPrettyGood2Me replied to doomsday_disco's topic in Limited Editions
Soft, and sweetly pretty in a delicate powdery sort of way, it whispers instead of shouts. A very wearable summer "floral" that would also make for a great bedtime scent. The smoke is definitely incense based and not charred or harsh in any way. Ghostly and ephemeral, but with moderate longevity. Sits quite close to the skin.- 6 replies

Frog Moon: Vetiver Root and Swamp Oud
SmellsPrettyGood2Me replied to doomsday_disco's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
I am so impressed with the duets in this Frog Moon collection!! Medicinal in the bottle, it blooms with sweet warmth the moment it hits your skin. If this is what a swamp smells like, buy me a thatched cottage and call me an ogre! The oud here is almost syrupy, not at all dark or dank. This reminds me so much of a fragrance I wore as a teenager in the 90's, and I just can't put my finger on what it was. I sniffed this one day after it arrived in the mail and I am terrified that it will somehow change as it rests, or that my nose will fail me and I will never be able to recapture this initial experience. Gorgeous, sexy, and backup bottle worthy.- 1 reply

Je Suis Toujours la Grande Isis

100% fancy hotel bathroom spray. I can see Disneyland Paris making this a signature scent in one of their properties. On my skin there is also a weird sort of plasticky undertone that I'm not enjoying. A rare scrubber for me.- 5 replies

Sleep – Jean-René Carrière
SmellsPrettyGood2Me replied to doomsday_disco's topic in Limited Editions
This scent confused my brain completely. First whiff I thought, "why does this smell like those dryer beads that seem to be so popular right now"? There is something almost tart and candy-like in the lavender open, followed by tea (surprisingly not smokey), and then in a weird disappearing act it almost ceases to smell like anything at all after about an hour. I kept shoving my arm in my face to no avail trying to get something back, but, alas, no. Will give this two week's rest and see if that improves my detection of the notes, and the longevity.- 3 replies

Frog Moon: Iris and Wild Patchouli
SmellsPrettyGood2Me replied to doomsday_disco's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
Simply gorgeous. I tested this 3 hours out of the mailbox and am completely infatuated with it. In the bottle, the patchouli hits first with a chewy greenness, while the iris hides around the corner waiting for her turn. Wet on skin, the iris comes out to play in an sunsoaked, dirt filled earthen pot. She stays fresh for about 20 minutes before transforming into a cut flower in a crystal vase and turning much more sweet and powdery. This lasted on my skin for more than 8 hours and just got even more lovely with every hour. If I close my eyes, I am a goddess gardener in a wide brimmed straw hat kneeling in the back yard while harvesting big, beautiful purple blooms.- 3 replies

Less heavy than the notes description leads you to believe! I get plum from the get go, more dried than jammy, along with the labadanum and beeswax. Gratefully, in my case, no peppercorn! The oud is present but not smoke-y, and the patchouli stays out of the limelight until drydown. I'd actually love to layer this with a smoke note to give it a more moody punch, but it's pretty terrific as is. 100% backup bottle worthy.- 4 replies

At a late period in the evening, after nearly three hours of experiment, Mrs Hayden having risen, and talking at another table while taking refreshment, a child suddenly called out, Will all the spirits who have been here this evening rap together? The words were no sooner uttered than a hailstorm of knitting-needles was heard, crowded into certainly less than two seconds; the big needle sounds of the men, and the little ones of the women and children, being clearly distinguishable, but perfectly disorderly in their arrival. Augustus de Morgan Polished mahogany and black tea with a clatter of vanilla husk and oak wood. I can totally see why others thought this evoked tea in a Victorian fortune teller's parlor. Much more wood wet than when applied and dried down, although it persists enough to balance out any astringency from the tea, which definitely leans Earl Grey. Sweet, pleasant and very wearable.

Boney Moon: Brown Sugar and Oak
SmellsPrettyGood2Me replied to doomsday_disco's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
With the caveat that I applied this fresh out of the mailbox today, I'm on the (oak) fence. Wet to dry down, there is not much difference in how the scent evolves on my skin. I'm getting a lot of oak in a very hewn-stack-of-2x4s sort of way. The brown sugar is lacking the molasses-like quality that I was hoping would bring some warmth to the scent. This is not a foody fragrance, leaning more along the lines of a cologne-y "bring me your lumbersexuals or bring me death!!" vibe. Will put it away for a few weeks and see how it develops with some resting.- 2 replies

Wet in the bottle I smell...raisins? On skin the open is lemon Pledge-y tea with maybe a touch of bergamot. As it dries down I get more sugar emerging, but it takes a good long while for the rum to really present itself. Even after a couple of hours, there isn't really anything alcoholic that ever appears. Simple notes but really takes a couple of lovely turns on the skin as it wears. I like it, and would love it even more if it had a touch of amber for a deeper sweetness.

Powdery brightness that gives salty SweetTart incense vibes as it dries down on my skin. Maybe a hint of cinnamon? The lavender is much more subtle for me in this than TKO.
