    Horreur Sympathique

~~frimp review~~ extreeemeeeely sweet out the imp. it smells like grape candy, like a skittle or something. once put on, it calms down suuper quick, I'm talking in a matter of like 2 minutes. i have to put my nose on my hand to smell. it retains the sweetness and becomes fizzy, similar to the champagne in Bon Vivant. now that I think about it, it's very much like BV, but grape rather than strawberry. it's not ~evil~ on my skin, but does have a slight dark edge to it from the wine and florals, but it is still very much sweet and fruity. overall, it's a grape Bon Vivant bubbly fruity sweet champagne smell. great if you like fruit and carbonated drinks/perfumes. I don't know that I'll wear it often, but it's a nice change of pace. maybe I'll layer it with BV. pretty happy that the Frimp Gods chose well for me

    Bastet

i got this as a frimp and holy crap is it really nice. this one's quite a changer. when wet, it smells really, really fruity and sweet. when i first got it before it settled, it smelled like juicy cherries. now after chilling for ~2 weeks, it's still fruity but not as much so. the almond that previously came through as cherry is now coming through as itself. as it dries, the musk comes through more and more. an hourish later, it smells very musky and warm, but not spicy. all the scents melded together into a really nice and flattering smell. it's great

    Tavern of Hell

another frimp scent! when just put on, it smells like a baked good, like a fall candle that bath and body works would sell. firstly I notice caramel, along with a hint of salt, flowers, and a bit of wood. overall, it's salted caramel in the woods. it's stayed that consistent smell for about 30 minutes, if it changes I'll edit the post

    Hollywood Babylon

ordered an imp of this and I'm satisfied with it. when first put on, it's increeeeedibly sweet, like sweet cherry lollipops. i believe the scent i smell behind it is the amber, which yanks the leash on the sweetness and chills it out towards the end. the musk is also really pleasant, kind of earthy. after only a few minutes, the smell really fades. about an hour later, the smell is still relatively the same. cherry, vanilla, sweetness, and a bit of earthyness

    Snake Oil

a scent that needs no introduction. thee legendary Snake Oil. upon first applying it... it is straight up church. sunday morning at like 9am and the priest is swangin that metal ball full of incense all around the people lmao. very... ceremonial. the vanilla is very nice and warm, bringing a beautiful sweetness to the scent. it stays almost the same upon drydown, still very sweet and incensey. unfortunately, I don't think I'll be wearing this in my day to day life. the scent isn't really my thing to wear out. but I'll definitely wear this around the house and in bed. I actually put it on the other night and could still faintly smell it after my 8 hour sleep. it's really nice, sexy, seductive, mature, smooth, ahhh. go ahead and buy an imp if you haven't already. cheers to snake oil!

    Bon Vivant

very happy I bought an imp of this to try because ohhh it is very very delightful when out of the bottle. it smells like alcoholic sprite. super bubbly and very, very sweet. drying down, I can smell the strawberry among the soda. it stays very sweet, but I swear I can still smell the bubbles. I don't know how I can smell the carbonation bubbles... but I can. about half an hour later, the smell's stayed mostly the same. it's overwhelmingly sprite with a hint of strawberry in the background, like if you got soda from one of those machines at a fast food place where it gives you the option to add the cherry, vanilla, orange, strawberry, etc syrups to your soda. it's just sprite with a shot of strawberry syrup. while it is really nice, really sweet, totally up my alley... it does kind of get on my nerves after a while, and it tires out my nose. this is a really great smell for a fun, upbeat occasion, like a party or going to the beach. overall, I like it!

    Persephone

I just ADORE this scent! adore it! as with all other floral bpals (on me) it smells awful the first few minutes. I really gotta give it a minute to let it calm down, and wow, after that cooldown... persephone is just amazing. so simple but lovely. it smells of beautiful roses with a fruity backdrop. it's just gorgeous, and I like it more as it fades a bit so it's not too potent. overall, it's floraly and fruity and sweet. what's not to love?

    Dracul

this is a veerrryy interesting smell. when drying down, I can smell the clove primarily and some sweetness. when dry, it smells really smokey, like a campfire, and there's some dark scents at play in the background (edit: I can also pick up maple syrup). I'm at a loss for words describing this scent. it's very mysterious and interesting. definitely not my first choice to wear, but since I got it as an imp I'd most likely wear it to bed or around the house, it's not really 'me' enough to wear out, but I do appreciate it

    Harvest Moon 2006

when it's wet, it's VERY apple-y, which is like peak autumn smell if you live in a state that grows a lot of apples (or a yearround scent when you live in the Big Apple like I do). very quickly upon drying down does it become much more herbaly and complex. it's hard to pinpoint exactly what you can pick up because there's a LOT going on (also because I'm not very familiar with a lot of these scents or amazing at articulating smells). I also pick up a hint of spiciness among it all. I'm kind of at a loss for words on how to fully capture it's essence. It's appley, sweet, a bit spicy, herbaly, foresty, and autumnal. it's fantastic!

was really excited by the mint in this one, so I got an imp. wet on skin it smells VERY herbally, almost nauseatingly so. very strong and unpleasant. glad it doesn't stay that way. in the middle stage, it smells kind of like the speed stick deodorant that I use when I sleep over at my boyfriend's (not a bad thing, I actually really like how it smells lmao) upon drydown, the mint really comes through, you can feel it cooling your nostrils ever so slightly. the florals (rose especially) also begin to bloom with a hint of citrus in the back (and possibly the grape wine?? there's a lot going on and it's hard to pick out any of the non-major players). the rosemary is also very prominent and works especially well with the mint. overall, it just smells very herbally, rosey, and cooling. I do kinda get old lady perfume from this smell, but it's not as bad in this scent as it is in other bpal florals I've tried. I definitely feel like I'm channeling royalty with this scent. it's a great chill smell perfect for the heat wave we're going through right now!

    High-Strung Daisies

the note that excited me the most and enticed by to buy an imp was the pepper. I ADORE pepper in perfumes, which is why Glossier's You is one of my favorites and I wish it was longer lasting! when wet, it smells very off... like flowers turning bad. I find that this is normal for all floraly bpals when I first put them on. that smell fades after a few minutes and becomes flowery (obviously). I can really smell the sugar, it brings a lot of sweetness that is really delightful. unfortunately for me, I cannot pick up much pepper. it's only sort of there in the background, and not very prominent like I had hoped it would be. regardless, it's still a great scent that I will definitely be wearing. not sure if I'd commit to a full bottle as of now, but maybe letting it sit around to develop will make the pepper come out more.

    Manhattan

I was born in manhattan and raised/still live in queens, so as an NYC native this scent was calling out to me. I felt the connection and went ahead and got an imp. out of the imp and wet on the skin is straight up trees. it smells very much like the pine scented car air fresheners (not a bad thing by any means). giving it a few minutes allows it to drop the forest act (we ARE in manhattan after all) and chill to be cologne-y. I can definitely smell the tea first and foremost, it's very nice and herbaly. I don't pick up the citrus as much as everyone seems to be, but I definitely smell the florals doing work in the background. mint also comes through beautifully and tingles your nose a little bit in a pleasant way. I daresay it's kind of masculine? overall, it is a very chill perfume that smells very elegant and expensive, like some refined aftershave you catch a whiff of passing someone in a skyscraper lobby. it's not in your face at all, and it doesn't need to be. this really is the scent of confidence, power, and the understanding that being boastful of supposed confidence or power is just trying to make up for the lack thereof.

    Blood

got this as a frimp and i'm very delighted with it! before the drydown, it is very strong and spicy. I can smell clove very clearly (and possibly some cinnamon?), some sweetness coming through from the cherry, as well as a lovely licorice. it's not changing much as time passes, but that's totally fine with me because I really adore the spicy and lingering fruity-ness. the throw on this smell is crazy. I put it on and went right to the kitchen to get some water. a few minutes later my mom came to me and asked about the perfume because it wafted from the kitchen to where she was in the living room. you will smell in a 20 ft radius of Blood.

    Kali

I was really excited for this interesting blend when I ordered it in an imp. I can confidently say this is very much not for me. wet, it smells very much not great, like some weird lotion that somehow went bad and had the smell warped for the worse. letting it dry, though, allows the the florals and honey to come through but leave everything behind. the florally scent of Kali is actually very nice, and florals are what I gravitate to in commercial perfumes, but most of the florally BPALs make me smell like a grandma, Kali is not an exception. it's a nice scent for soap or something, but it's definitely channeling grandma perfume that I don't see myself wearing out, probably only to bed. unfortunately this won't be a repurchase D : edit oct 8th: trying a few imps over again and updating reviews. this one is a true morpher, the scent in the imp is pretty nice, chocolatey and fruity almost. it really is just so... not amazing on skin. it's bitter in a too much florals way, like stale old grandma perfume and cough medicine. i hate to be so mean but like... it's really not good. wish it stayed as cherry as it was in the imp but even that's not really worth being in the locket. gonna go wash it off now...

    Tombstone

got this in a frimp and it is very interesting. not the type of scent I'd go for, but it is a nice smell. very wood-sy, of course, and also slightly sweet. the vanilla is very prominent on me which I like a lot. on me, it's exactly what it says on the tin and I really can't complain. if you're into sweet woody smells, you may like this one.

    Kobold Barista

got this in an imp and I was really excited as both a D&D player and chai lover. on my skin, I really can't smell much other than those christmassy scented pinecones you get at like Michaels. you can identify a lot of the spices used for chai, such as cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon (which are really apparent), but I can't seem to pick up the cream or coffee. it started to really fade after about 30 minutes and i'm having a hard time picking up the scent as I write this. not exactly what I was expecting, but I do like it and will be wearing it in the fall and winter for a bit of needed warmth. edit 10/30/23: guess this really needed a moment to come out of its shell, I'm really excited to report that it has changed for the better! it's a lot more spicy but still dry. I can now identify coffee beans bringing a dark and earthy aspect to it. it seems the cream is holding back all the spices from going a bit too spicy, and I can definitely identify the creamy sweetness coming through which is pleasant. it's VERY very nice, like extremely. I will definitely have to pick up a full bottle when I'm done with the imp if it's not too similar. definitely smells like what a piping hot and warming winter drink from a cold-blooded bartender should be.

    Black Phoenix

this scent feels like it was made personally for me. it's really amazing and changes very interestingly. wet, it smells extremely like licorice and it's very pungent. it morphs into something fruity, most likely cherry. it then changes pretty quickly into rose, with a kind of spicy background, maybe cinnamon, anise or clove? the end product is a slightly fruity, spicy and definitely rose smell. the rose is very clear and in charge but the bottom of your nostrils burn with a gentle spice. it's fantastic!
