    Maple Pie

What the Blob (of 1958 fame) would smell like if it were slow-motion rip-roaring through Cracker Barrel. It’s going to engulf your pancake breakfast and the wooden booth to boot. And maybe it’ll slurp a jar of apple butter off the shelves when it exits through the general store. Gleamy, goopy, and a little bit country, with molasses charging thickly ahead and maple surple streaming in around the edges. The salt and brown sugar pluck in with a twang of texture and depth. If there’s any crust to be had, it’s been gobbled up by that dang ol’ Blob.

    Pumpkin Buttercream

First few wears: I get the puree and I get the buttercream, but that’s not all we’ve got here to frost your cakes. There is also a cheeky bit of clove...Or maybe it's some baked, caramelized swirl of pumpkin roulade snickety-snacking about. Now: Aha! Pumpkin spice cheesecake.

    Lavender Earl Grey Cookies

Surprisingly fruity! I get a big squeeze of bergamot bolstering the somnambulant lilt of lavender sugar cookies. No tea for me at the present, but it's a great cookie nonetheless.

    Cucidati

Boozy orange peel and earthy-sweet fig paste is wrapped in a warm, muddled haze of rich cookie dough. The lemon tang squeezes through but is softened by the caramelized tones of the dried dates. It's a hug from Nonna in a bottle.

    Amoretti LXXV

Opens with a bite of musked apple and a nibble of fig nestled in a crest of gilded amber. With time, the headier aspects of the perfume drift from the shore of the skin, leaving love's lasting imprint of sun-warmed fruits and sparkling vanilla.

    Rice Milk & Mango

Expectation: Mango Lassi Reality: Surprise! The Froot Stork paid you a visit! And they brought you a sweet baby mango nestled in a soft blanket of rice milk.

    Like the Very Gods

A viridescent rustle of olive blossoms sings from the end of the wand cap. Skin and scent bloom velvet petals sunning under breathy citrus musk. A trembling web thread of cedar lies in wait for a sandalwood snack.

What do bottles and labels look like?

No problem! If you Google “BPAL Worm Moon 2014,” the artwork shows up in Scentbase and an old BPAL Tumblr post.

What do bottles and labels look like?

    @highgarden I think they’re 2013 and 2014, respectively!

    Pomegranate Sufganiyot

Jammy gobs of sugared, tart pomegranate goo out of the bottle are crammed into a fluffy fried dough once applied to the skin. The scent experience is like eating a jelly doughnut in reverse.

    Oatmeal and Apple Spice Cookies

From the bottle rises fresh diced apples with oats and walnuts, tossed together in a mixing bowl with sugar and grated nutmeg. On the skin, the edges brown as that cookie element bakes into view, but make no mistake; this is all about the sugared apples, subtle spice, and nutty, oaty bits.

    Boney Was a Warrior

From the 5ml barrel sloshes a waft of almond dusted with oakmoss and grazed with rosemary foam, while jasmine wraps her coquettish tail around it all. Jasmine-averse seafarers rejoice, or rather, beware: This be your siren to lure you into the aromatic abyss with her gentle floral song. The skin tells a tale. The integrity of the almond, the wit of the rosemary, and the virility of the oakmoss join forces with jasmine’s more polished sensibilities to become something that, while not capable of commanding the military, could very well command the room.

    Sugar Cookie

2020 version A sheen of buttery cookie sweat is tautened over a quickened, almost imperceptible pulse of cinnamon sugar. A faint perversion of egg nog permeates the air. Like a classic baked good with dastardly deeds that have yet to be discovered.

    Disembodied Malevolent Laughter

I went into this with a specific result in mind. I was hoping it’d smell at least somewhat similar to icewine tea. My wish has been granted! The dark resins, white lemon, and icy wine grape read like icewine-laced Ceylon tea with some rounding of the tannic edges. The white musk gives it a dry, loose leaf feel. Mfw wearing this:

    Cranberries & Popcorn

I'm not a big fan of the drydown. There's an unpleasant clashing tang with the tart cranberry and buttery popcorn. BUT it is smoothing out considerably, and it continues to get better throughout the wear. The cranberries are bright. The popcorn smells crunchy. (How?!) This perfume might leave you with kernels stuck in your teeth.

    Blackcurrant Pie

"Baked in a buttery, flaky crust!" (If you know, you know.) Steamy blackcurrant goop embedded with froot bits and encased in a classic golden pie crust. There's like 1/4 tsp cinnamon in this recipe. I don't get any cardamom, but perhaps that is where this "perfume-y" slant is coming from that I'm picking up on, too? It's almost (like, 97%) a literal pie interpretation but for that certain something that says, "I refuse to conform to your gastronomic standards!" In any (pie) case, this one is another contender for a backup bottle. It is strong and long-lasting.

    Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Pie

I can't believe I almost passed this one up. I was like, "Pumpkin pie? Eh." But then the reviews started rolling in and I just had to try it! In the bottle, it's a crumbly, chocolatey graham cracker crust and a cream cheese filling studded with flecks of pumpkin spice. On the skin, it's more generous with the filling, and the pumpkin spice sparkles to the surface. It balances deliciously with that chocolatey crust note. Backup-worthy. We're talking multiple backups here.

    Bliss

Like Cocoa Puffs folded into brownie batter. Fudgy, but not too dense. Great longevity, too!

    Honeyed Apple

A tart, green, honey-coated apple ensconced in a gauze-like cloud of heady, vaporous sweetness that glimmers like a mirage on the horizon. 🍏✨

    Braving the Ice

I smell a thin layer of sticky pomegranate goo sandwiched between two crumbly, buttery cookies and topped with a white chocolate drizzle! I’m not really getting any mint. This reminds me of some sort of breakfast junk I had as a teen, and I think it’s those Special K Red Berries Cereal Bars. It smells more fruity closer to the skin, and the butter is dancing about happily in its little butter cloud.

    Pumpkin Booze

Another early Weenie test! Bottle: Spicy cinnamon pumpkin booze. Wet: Pumpkin, clove, orange, hint of cinnamon. This smells like a Yule. Dry: Ah, there's the booze again! Something about the final stage leans into 2019 Samhain territory for me.

    Maenad

I tested a frimp of this without checking the notes first. And it was all Dots. Jujubes? Dots and/or Jujubes. Me gusta. When I looked at the scent description, I was shocked to see orange blossom because I usually don’t get along with orange blossom scents, yet Maenad is oh-so-charming. Since my mind was already stuck on “movie theater candy,” the subtle stankiness of the orange blossom crept up my nostrils like whiffs of movie theater seats of questionable cleanliness. Not like butt, but like a ghost of a must. It sounds unflattering, but it all works together wonderfully. After a few hours of wear, it’s Dots again, only fainter, like when the bits would cling to your teeth and you had to scrape them out with your fingernails.

    Sugar Cookie

2005 version: Love it! There's a hint of cherry in the bottle and on the skin when freshly applied that develops into a lightly-caramelized crystal sugar topping. There was something a bit watery up-close in the drydown. But it transforms into a crunchy sugar cookie - almost shortbready - with a bit of give in the middle.

    Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Buns

I usually wait a few weeks or more before testing, but I just HAD to take this for a spin. It's ok so far. There's the cinnamon icing and a dusting of pumpkin spice, but I wanted the warm, gooey bakery part of the cinnamon bun to be more pronounced. (You know what I'm talking about, ye who hath also snorfled the local mall's Cinnabon fumes.) I'm going to wait a while longer to retest it, and if anything changes, I'll report back!

    Dragon Slide

Came for Thin Mint ice cream, but what I got is white chocolate chips folded into vanilla cake batter with an eensy drop of peppermint flavoring. Cute! The name/label got the Dragon Tales theme song stuck in my head, so now I have that association with this perfume.
