    Silky Bat

I never thought of myself as a patchouli person, but BPAL has changed my mind! Silky Bat is my favorite patch scent thus far (and that includes BB/RR, which is also wonderful, but SB is just a bit more my jam for whatever reason). It's smooth, sugared, almost forest-y patchouli and it lasts forever on my skin. Makes me feel more confident/extroverted than I actually am. I adore it.

Last Tavern at the Town Gate

Starts off lemony, dries down to a cozy blend of hearthsmoke, oak, and a hint of whiskey. The red musk is light and just sort of ties everything together, but isn't that noticeable to my nose. My apologies for being such a gamer, but this is what an inn/tavern in Skyrim or Icewind Dale must smell like. Will definitely keep my decant for when I need that kind of atmosphere.

Call it a broken heart, a break-up, heartache...

Maybe We Wear the Mask? There's a wistful quality to it IMO, and I think Tom and Galen described it similarly in one of their videos.

Don’t Tell Me Heaven is Under the Earth

This is *gorgeous.* I jumped on the chance to get a bottle of this one because I love honey and recently discovered I am crazy for Silky Bat, so a sugary honeyed patch sounded amazing and like something I was missing in my collection. This scent isn't as . . . crisp? focused? extroverted? as Silky Bat; it's soft and serene, dusted with cinnamon sugar and golden with honey.

    Lavender and White Chocolate Madeleines

This starts out smelling very similar to Two Frames---herbal lavender doused in creamy sugar---but the two dry down differently. Whereas Two Frames is mostly about the buttercream frosting, this scent is a bit more complex and dries down into a fluffy madeline cookie with a hint of vanilla extract. It's a pretty, delicate scent and doesn't have a ton of throw or longevity (at least not at this stage in its life), but it's definitely delicious and amazingly accurate. Yum!

    Strawberries & Honeycomb

Fresh out of the mail, this is a blast of bright, sugary strawberry. It has way more throw than I expected! To me, the strawberry is the same as in the Strawberries/Cotton Candy/Lime trio. Candied rather than tart. The honeycomb must be what's making the strawberry so sugary, but it's definitely a lighter honey than in many scents. I'll be interested to see if it deepens or gets muskier with age. Overall, this is mouthwatering and aggressively cheerful; will definitely wear on days when I need a pick me up. Edit: If you like Honeyed Apple and wish there were a candied strawberry version, you'd probably like this. Also, even though I've never smelled Velvet Unicorn, this is kind of what I imagine that to smell like. Someone else will have to weigh in on that comparison, though.

    Stitched Together

This is one of those scents I've had hard time reviewing because I like it so much. It's a perfect chilly-minty but creamy-sweet scent, with the green tea giving it a light base that keeps it from being overly sweet/gourmand. And it goes so well with other scents I like. In my hair, it's noticeable but not overwhelming. Big, big win. ?

    Mari Lwyd

Delicious sugary lavender and baked goods with a hint of smooth ale. It definitely isn't really boozy, just balanced by the ale note. It's also a more delicate than hearty scent. I'm not detecting fruit? but that could just be my nose. The cake here smells more like a honey cake or lavender scone, to me. I wish the staying power was a little better, but I'm still going to enjoy the heck out of my decant. I have so many sweet lavender bottles now that I'm trying to resist getting another one, but I'm certainly tempted.

    A Moonlit Winter Landscape

I adore the dirt note here (it really smells like cold dirt), and the florals and maple-y fenugreek are really interesting together with it. It kind of reminds me of Destroying Angel, but if you added misty gray notes, flowers (which are gorgeous, I can pick out the iris and linden), oak, and a hint of sweet maple to it. Very atmospheric and calming. Decent throw, medium wear length.

    Wheatstacks, Snow Effect, Morning

The peach and pink carnations are the strongest notes to me at first and give me a bubblegum like impression. The scent becomes more complex as it dries down, with the light musk, hay, and rooibos making an appearance. I really like the hay and carnation combo, although I already have so many good hay scents that I'm not sure if I'll bottle this one yet. I adore the bottle art, though, and this scent does an amazing job of capturing that in a perfume medium.

    Rosewater & Myrrh

I'm really enjoying this one; it's a bottle contender. The rosewater note is light, a little syrupy, and not at all soapy. The myrrh makes the scent as a whole smell like rose flavored soda. It's refreshing and has the same sparkly pink quality as Rose Quartz Bedroom.

Dead Leaves, Marshmallow, and Pistachio Cream

I feel like I might be the odd one out, because I definitely get the dead leaf note, which is a little peppery at first. I'm not sure if it's just my nose or skin chem, or if it's a batch variation or aging issue (for reference, I've tried a couple of more aged dead leaves blends and didn't notice the DL note being this strong). This is less sweet than I expected it to be, but I've still been enjoying it. First applied, I mostly get dead leaves and unsweetened cream. Over time, the pistachio joins in with its nutty/creamy quality and the marshmallow tiptoes in to sweeten everything up a little. It has a smoky quality from the leaves that complements the creamy/sweet elements. It doesn't have much throw, but it does have more staying power than I initially thought; it just dries down faint. I think I'll really enjoy this next fall, and by then I'll see how it's aging. It makes me feel like a feral autumn faery who likes to visit the human world for ice cream.

I want to smell like dirt! Dirt, Earth, Soil recommendations

@aphrodisms: The only one I know of that has vetiver, off the top of my head, is Hagsgate from The Last Unicorn collection (sadly out of stock because of licensing issues). Its notes are rich black soil and hay, cucumber, tomato, red lettuce, summer squash, black eggplant, arugula, grape vine, artichoke, and a tangle of herbs marred by an undercurrent of vetiver, patchouli, and black moss. It has turned up on the Lab's Etsy page recently, and it looks like Ajevie still has a bottle listed in her charity scents. It does have a vegetal quality, though, so it depends on if you like some garden with your dirt! My personal favorite dirt scent is still Death Cap, which is sort of like coconutty dirt. So good, and it's GC (was out of stock for a while, but is back now!).

    To a Wreath of Snow

This definitely is that same gorgeous tobacco of A Vision of the Courtesan and Zorya P (with this reminding me the most of A Vision). On my skin, the white tobacco is the dominant note, sweet, creamy, and somehow smelling lightly spiced. The lavender gives it a chilly edge but is otherwise more sweet than herbal, and takes second stage to the tobacco. The ambergris comes out more over time and gives the overall scent more texture, if that makes sense (I always think of ambergris as being sort of fuzzy?). I don't detect the oud at all, although I know it must be doing something, maybe adding to the strength of the tobacco note. If you love or missed out on A Vision of the Courtesan and other white tobacco/tobacco flower blends, I hope you get to try this! It's absolutely gorgeous and the stand out of this year's Yules for me so far.

    Pumpkin Gazpacho

This smells really appetizing, honestly; now I'm hungry. I get mostly sage from this, with a bit of creamy pumpkin and cucumber. I am not really detecting the tomato, but I suppose tomato fruit has a pretty light scent anyway. The overall scent is light, fresh, and cozy.

    Suck It 2020

I get strong cherry booze from this for the first half hour or so, and then the sour apricot emerges. Reminds me of smelling different schnapps flavors. I'm not picking up anything else besides the fruit and boozy notes, so at least with my skin chemistry, this is a pretty straightforward scent.

    Marshmallow Snow

When this is wet, the slushy/piney snow note dominates, but as it dries and wears, the fluffy marshmallow emerges. I haven't tried the past bath oil variant of this, so I can't compare them, but I am definitely enjoying this. It's cool and green, but with a delicate marshmallow sweetness that lingers.

    Pomegranate Sufganiyot

This is really nice! It's all tart red fruit and sugary dough, with the fruit being more forward. (Or at least, it is on me, but I tend to amp red currant and cranberry type notes). I definitely detect the pomegranate I smell in Mme Moriarty once the cranberry calms down. This is similar to last year's Fig & Cranberry Suf, but darker and less sweet because of the pomegranate (although the pastry note does add sweetness, so it's not all tartness). If you enjoyed the Fig & Cranberry Suf and Eat Me, or wished there was a more gourmand pomegranate scent, I'd definitely recommend this. I can also see myself wearing this outside of a winter/holiday context.

    Amber & Cardamom

This oil has a dark reddish tint when first applied, but it fades. This scent is what I hoped for: warm golden amber and the same spicy-sweet cardamom from scents like Hay Moon 2020 and Perfectly Normal Childhood. So if you liked those and/or wanted a slightly less sweet option in the same vein, I'd recommend this. I also see similarities with Inez and other spicy ambers. I think this will age well, too; when I first got it in the mail, the throw wasn't great, but it's getting better now that it has settled a little and isn't chilled from the cold mailbox.

    Baby’s First Ballista

I love Haloes, so this seemed like a safe bet and I was right. This smells very similar in the bottle and on my skin, with the oak and vanilla being pretty balanced. It's maybe a bit on the sweet side as it dries down, until I'm mostly left with vanilla sugar and a whiff of oak (skin chemistry differences are so weird). It doesn't last very long on my skin at this point, so I'm hoping the longevity will improve as the oak and vanilla age. Compared to Haloes, I actually find this a bit sweeter? Haloes is kind of dolled up with the floral, fruit, and spice notes, whereas this is more straightforwardly vanilla. Haloes makes me feel kind of haunted and otherworldly; in comparison, this makes me feel classy and put-together.

    Cherry Cream Pie Chypre

I wish this was available in a bottle, yum. It's slightly tart maraschino cherry with vanilla cream and buttery pie crust. The chypre element makes it bright and elevates the whole scent into perfume rather than just dessert smell . . . though it still makes me hungry.

    Beeswax, Cedarwood & Bourbon Vanilla

I love this. Soft beeswax, polished cedarwood, and lightly sweet bourbon vanilla are all notes I was predisposed to love together, so it's not really surprising, but I feel really content when I smell it just the same. This smells like a luxurious study with aged cedarwood furniture and fresh beeswax candles that still have that touch of honeyed sweetness to them (not that this smells like honey, I think the vanilla + beeswax just gives me that sweet beeswax impression). Fresh out of the mail, this seems like a skin scent for sure, although I do catch lovely wafts of it now and then. I hope resting/aging will make the longevity a little better, but otherwise, no complaints.

    Flickering Lights, Fluttering Curtains

When I first applied this, I worried I was anosmic to it, but the vanilla blossomed as it warmed on the skin. This is a cool, ethereal vanilla for sure, and somehow there really is a sense of a breeze in it. I detect the linen, chamomile, and cognac, but mostly this is about that floaty vanilla once it warms up. I haven't actually tried many of the Laces, but this does remind me of Antique Lace and, to an extent, The Girl, though The Girl is more ambery. Overall, this is an elegant, understated vanilla perfume that manages to be airy and chilly.

ISO suggestions for a LARP Character

I second Whip (black leather and damp red rose) and Streets of Detroit (Black musk accord, Ethiopian myrrh, and motor oil). There's also Rogue (Soft, well-worn black leather, hemp, and rosin) and Liz (A light, feminine vanilla floral perfume and a swirl of smoke and leather), although that one is pretty smoky to me rather than sweet. Of those, Whip and Rogue are impable (and both are lovely!). From the new Liliths, there's also Baby's First Chainsaw (Chainsaw grease and chocolate chip cookies), although I'm not sure if that's the vibe you're going for. I really like the Lab's motor oil/chainsaw grease type notes.

    Sour Lemon Smut

Sampled my sister's bottle. This smells like sour lemon with a bunch of sugar sprinkled all over it. The musk gives it a playful twist and some interesting depth beyond the lemon sugar vibe. So, overall, very sexy lemon candy. I smelled this when it first arrived in the mail and again today, and the scent has definitely gotten even better with rest, so I'm sure this, like all the Smut scents, will age beautifully.
