On me, I'm mostly getting pumpkin waffles, but I'm not complaining. There isn't much spice or coffee, to my nose, just a fluffy golden waffle smell. I can smell the coffee in the background if I look for it. This brings back good memories, so I'll definitely hold onto my decant. ❤️

This is just as unique and cozy as I'd hoped. Initially, it smells like sourdough bread to me, but then the delicious herbs start coming through. I definitely smell the caraway and rye, which seem to hide the rosemary. Maybe that will come through more as it ages. There's a little salt and butter if I look for it, but on my skin, it's mostly about the herbs and dough. I probably only need my decant, but I'm happy to have this for the novelty and comfort.

This is sugared cardamom and vanilla marshmallows; would definitely recommend to anyone who likes these notes! I love this combination, but it might be too close to Pink Lovebird, which I have a bottle of, to upgrade my decant. I'll have to compare them directly at some point. The floofy marshmallow is a really nice addition to this type of scent composition, though.

I kind of love this? This opens with a sharp grease note, which quickly blends into a slightly-burnt chocolate chip cookie smell. It smells like when I put cookies in the oven and later the scent of them wafts through the house and I think, "oh, that smells good . . . I forgot about my cookies! They're going to be crispy!" It softens as it wears until it's kind of like a chocolate chip cookie skin scent. Cookie musk. I'm actually tempted to get a bottle, sigh.

I echo that this is beautiful, wow! I, uh, considered buying this for someone as a gift . . . but I'm keeping this bottle, sorry. ? White tea can be hit or miss for me, but the blueberry and citrus notes complement it perfectly here. The blueberry does its top-note thing, starting off juicy before fading, but I can still smell a hint of it a couple hours later. Maybe the citrus helps anchor that fruit aspect. So, white tea with blueberries and lemon, but perfumified. It's cool, elegant, and feels sophisticated but grounded. I look forward to wearing it on days when I need a little serenity.

When I first got this, it smelled mostly like clove (albeit a very nice clove, smooth and dark rather than potpourri-like). But I'm noticing the tobacco emerging more as it ages, and I'm really liking the tobacco note (which is pipe-tobacco-ish IMO) with the clove. I've never smelled a clove cigarette, so I don't have the nostalgia factor, but I like this scent for what it is: a warm, autumnal clove with tobacco. This would be lovely layered with a leather note . . .

I love Snow White so much. Anything with that snow note is wonderful too, like Frostbitten TKO. I like some of the piney snow scents too. I recently got a frottle of Snow Bunny from the lab and am enjoying it. It's kind of like a more citrusy, less piney Skadi.

This smells just like an ancient oak tree heavy with hanging moss: the rough bark, green leaves, and gnarled roots intertwined with little pale mushrooms. It's a very green, mossy, and oak-y scent. The honey has a bit of a funk to it in the state between wet and dry, but it dries to a lightly sweet sheen overlying the mossiness. If you want to smell like an oak dryad, this is the scent for that. I don't know if I will reach for it enough to use up my entire bottle, but I've been enjoying it for those times when I want to feel like I'm relaxing in a primordial forest.

Cedarwood, Vanilla Absolute & Tolu Balsam
feyofthefellwood replied to zankoku_zen's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
I smell the cedarwood predominantly, but I assume the other notes are what make it smell so smooth and polished. I love the smell of cedar, and the closer the scent is to the inside of a cedar chest, the better. So I really like this. It's calming and warm. -
Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2015)
feyofthefellwood replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Carnaval Diabolique
I remember being scared of Mme. Moriarty when I first tried it because for the first minute or so, it smells just like fingernail polish on my skin. However, I tried it again tonight and patience is a virtue, because this is gorgeous once it dries. The sharper notes and red musk are sweetened by the vanilla and plum; together, they all make for a sultry scent. The plum note with the vanilla reminds me of the sweet plum tone of Bordello. -
This smells like a wonderful fall festival (it makes me nostalgic for the days when we could actually go places *cries*). All the notes are balanced very well, merging into a fruity, woodsy, smokey atmospheric scent. It's like drinking mulled wine and watching bonfires in the distance.

I'd describe this as a musky, briney aquatic. I definitely smell something like seaweed at first (the kelp, perhaps?) before it dries down into a citrusy aquatic. I don't know why I'm getting such a citrus note here, although I can't decide if it's grapefruit, orange peel, or orange blossom that it reminds me of. I think the musks keep it from going dryer sheet or cologne like, but my nose is not trained enough to pick out many of the listed notes. This would be fitting for days when you want to feel like an evil mermaid (or sea witch?), but probably won't be something I reach for too often.

To me, this smells like the best clean laundry smell ever because it's very soft and not dryer-sheet like at all. I love pink carnation and that note here is really lovely with the lavender mist. However---and perhaps because this is so soft and gentle---this has barely any throw on my skin. I wish I could smell it more strongly, especially the carnation. I will have to see what aging does, although this will make a wonderful sleep scent regardless. It's very soothing and cuddly.

I get a good deal of sandalwood from this one, which just goes to show that skin chemistry is a funny thing. It's a creamy sandalwood. The sugared cream makes the vanilla smell foodie to my nose, but it's a lovely vanilla. The caramel is tame, and not as strong as in the black vanilla/caramel/chilli trio. Overall, this actually reminds me of shortbread biscuits. It's warm, lightly sweet, and sort of bready, to my nose. Edit: This keeps getting better and better with rest. It's so lovely and comforting. I think it will age beautifully!

This is so pretty! ? The combination of rose, white musk, and lavender starts out pretty strong; I found it clarifying and bracing at this stage, which wasn't what I had been expecting. But the sugary vanilla comes out as it dries down and turns the scent into this sweet, shimmery rose that I'd certainly imagine to be pink, like rose quartz. This is not as sweet and sugary as The Best Lies (I think the saffron and lavender neutralize those aspects a bit) and not quite as pillowy and gentle as Love from the Pickman series. But if you enjoyed those, you'll probably like Rose Quartz Bedroom, too. This is definitely one of my favorite rose scents I've tried so far.

Cacao, Black Amber & Black Copal
feyofthefellwood replied to zankoku_zen's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
Something in this one turns weird on me, unfortunately. I like the resiny incense smell I get from it at first, but then it turns kind of sweet yet sour ish? I am not sure which note is causing it, since I enjoy cacao, amber, and copal in other blends. I'll have to try it again after it rests a bit more and see if my skin/nose likes it better. -
Very light honey, citrusy bergamot, and slightly powdery frankincense. I really like this combination, but also wish it was stronger or had another grounding note, because it's light and fleeting on my skin. I am always on the lookout for honey and frankincense scents but prefer them to be stronger, I suppose.

This is lovely. It opens with an almost lemony scent that reminds me of the Lab's sugar note, then settles into honeyed amber, soft cardamom, and a hint of sweet hay/oats. The amber reminds me a bit of Inez and O. It becomes a skin scent on me pretty quickly, and so doesn't have a lot of throw, but that's part of its charm IMO. As other reviewers have noted, it definitely captures a sense of the transition from summer to fall.

Skin Musk, Cream & Honey Dust
feyofthefellwood replied to zankoku_zen's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
This is very sweet on my skin, but quite pretty. It has much better throw than I expected, and fairly good longevity. I usually prefer more musky honey notes, but this is really nice for a sweeter honey. It's almost white honey like with regard to sweetness. Overall, this makes me think of toffee or cream soda, but made with honey. -
Thanks for the tag, @biggnerd! Yeah, I'd say that skin chemistry is definitely a factor. To me, Halfling is nuttier, milkier, and sweeter. It has more presence on my skin. I find Dana O'Shee lighter, and it definitely has almond, which Halfling does not (to my nose, anyway). The almond seems like a top note in Dana, because it kind of burns off. The scent dries down to this sort of pearly, glowing skin scent (if you've tried Snow White, it has a similar quality, but Dana isn't floral or cold like Snow White is). I find Dana O'Shee to be really subtle and not as foody as Halfling once the almond calms down. Biggnerd's oatmeal vs. honeyed milk comparison is one I'd echo. Edit: also, I'm obviously influenced by the concepts of each scent somewhat, but Dana O'Shee is more delicate/ethereal to me (totally faery food) whereas Halfling is hearty and cozy, like something a Halfling might cook up for breakfast at an inn. ☺️

This smells like a warm bowl of the yummiest porridge ever, with fig and toasted nuts on top, plus some fresh, cold whole milk. It's sweet, foody, and very cozy. To me, it's like a mid-point between Dana O'Shee, which is lighter, and Dies Patribus, which is sweeter.
-
I love Dana O Shee, so I'm biased, but I absolutely think it's a good sleepytime scent. It starts off a little sweet-almondy, but that does fade into a light, delicate scent. The honey is not very sweet or strong, IMO. I find it comforting but unobtrusive.

Cedarwood & Smoked Vanilla
feyofthefellwood replied to zankoku_zen's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
Warm, dry cedar and sheer vanilla musk. There is a nice smoky aspect that dances around the edges of the scent, but it's definitely not the focus. This is a subtle, unisex perfume. I really like this; the notes are blended well and complement each other with their dry almost-sweetness. But it's definitely a skin scent without much throw, and it sadly doesn't last very long on my skin. -
This is earthy gorgeousness; it reminds me of something between Death Cap and Banshee Beat/Revenant Rhythm. I wouldn't have thought I'd be a gnarly patch person, but I love it combined with the coconut and sweet benzoin. Definitely one of the many jewels from the GC. It will be fun to wear on days when I want to feel a bit feral.

You might enjoy Eostre of the Dawn ("jasmine and honeysuckle, sweet milk and female skin"), which is one of my favorite honeysuckle scents even though jasmine usually doesn't work for me. It doesn't come in imp size from the Lab unfortunately, but there are usually some decants available in the sales section here. For water lily, I really like The Lady of Shalott ("calm waters just before a raging storm, limned with achingly-beautiful blooms, an icy scent, but somehow warm, and mirror-bright: bold gardenia, crystalline musk, muguet, water blossoms, clear, slightly tart aquatic notes and a crush of white ginger"), if you don't mind a bit of an aquatic vibe. This one is general catalogue and available in imps, at least!
