    Dragon's Blood Incense

I absolutely love this. I don’t even know how to describe it - it’s red musk but deep, the champaca is respectful and not stomping, the amber is a beautiful backbone and there’s a blood note, but it’s not too perfume-y or loud. It’s gorgeously blended and I could not stop taking whiffs of it all day. I love it!!

    Lavender Coconut Cream Pie

mmmmm yeah this is fantastic. The comparison to Lavender and White Chocolate Madeleines is apt, but instead of the white chocolate there's a beautiful sugary coconut. It is not too sweet or overwhelming. Reminds me of a Cadbury Mini Egg with lavender.

    Zombie Milk

I’m not sure that I quite know how to describe this, but it’s lovely. I definitely smell grasses/rice milk and sandalwood. I would overall describe it as an earthy, green scent. No goat’s milk type undertones. It’s really nice.

To a Wreath of Snow 2023

I probably would have bought this based solely on the notes, but the fervor from many around its rerelease made me blind-bottle it right away. I am glad I did - it's wonderful. Previous years' reviews likened it to The Air & the Ether, and I can definitely see the comparison; but To a Wreath of Snow has a beautiful tobacco note that remains even after the lavender and ambergris have faded from the initial application. The blending of all the notes here is fantastic - hours later I can smell a bit of each of them, but none are competing - and I also detect a slight bit of vanilla/sandalwood? That may just be the way my nose registers all the notes. It's just an absolutely lovely scent.

    Congealed Blood & Oozing Viscera

OK y'all I may be a freak but I read everyone's descriptions and was like "stinky band-aid? GET IT ON ME". I love those kinds of medicinal/band-aid notes, so I grabbed a decant. There used to be a small 100+ year old apothecary upsate from where I live and it smells exactly like this. I felt like I just walked through their doors. If you've ever been to any sort of old pharmacy, that's what it evokes. It is strong - I opened my vial and the whole vicinity smelled like iodine/band-aid. Freshly applied, it's purely that: a band-aid soaked in medicinal tincture. You have to like that to like this. As it dries, a lightly spicy blood note starts to emerge, plus a little bit of a smoky menthol. It is definitely an odd and mysterious scent and not for the faint-of-heart, but if you like anything I've just described then you might like it. It really does make you smell like an old-timey apothecary.

    Vintage Ghost Blow Mold

OMG I'm in love. I hesitated on this one solely because I have a sensory aversion to actual "plastic" smell, but just received a decant and my fears were for naught. This is a sweet, somehow nostalgic candy corn/vanilla that fades to a softly sweet amber. "Glowing" is honestly a perfect description, and I don't know how Beth does it but she really did evoke a softly-glowing halloween decoration. Absolutely love this one and can see it becoming a top-10 favorite - it's that good. ETA: Forget top-10, this scent is a top-3 BPAL ever for me.

    Batty Perversion

This one surprised me the most - it is pure coconut-rum-candy sweetness on me! Almost piña colada. I’m going to revisit it in another week or so to see if that’s still what I am getting, but I wore it for a full day and that’s what it smells like – and I’m not mad about it. No leather that I can detect.

    Batty Snake Oil

When I first received this, the leather note was pretty strong up top, but within 24 hours it had calmed down. Upon application, there is a distinct note of leather, I described it as a sun-warmed leather jacket that you’ve worn in some early autumn air. After the initial burst of leather starts to fade, there is a really stunning sugared vanilla that blends gorgeously with the familiar snake oil. For the rest of the time wearing this, the sugared vanilla was the note I smelled most, and it was glorious. interestingly, when I woke up the next morning the only trace left behind by the scent was leather! I was super surprised since other than application that faded for most of the wear.

    Batty Lace

An excellent entry into the Lace family. Upon application this reminded me a lot of Harlow’s Lace, I believe due to a burnt caramel note that I’m detecting. After some time that fades an little and I am left with a lovely Lace variant. I can definitely smell the Antique Lace but throughout where there is still always a slightly sugared caramel undertone; it’s really nice. I did not notice any leather in this one.

    Closet Raid

I just got a bottle of this and wow, do I love it. I've long liked how Chanel No.5 smells, so I immediately put this on my wish list when I read about it. It is magical! It really does evoke Chanel No. 5, but not just that; there's a delicious powdery note that takes me back to some old 1990s Revlon velvet lipsticks in red cases. Gosh I loved those, and Closet Raid wet on my skin smells like them! It's wonderfully nostalgic. As it dries I can detect the Snake Oil and a little lavender. It's definitely a "high-end perfume" kinda BPAL. I love it!!

    Pumpkin Spice Champagne

It’s exactly what you’d expect! The lab’s wonderful champagne note up top, and a beautiful pumpkin spice blended in. It’s not a loud or screechy pumpkin spice at all - definitely evocative of a delicious fall cocktail. I am a fiend for the lab’s champagne, and if you’re wondering how this compares to Victory (pumpkin cheesecake champagne) - on me, it is like its lighter cousin. Victory came to fight and Pumpkin Spice Champagne came to toast your win.

Lemon Peel, White Peach and White Musk

This is lovely! The three notes are blended beautifully. The white peach has an almost cream-like note to it. The lemon peel gives a nice citrus brightness. The white musk isn’t very strong right now but I can detect it in the background. I’m sure it will show itself a little more as the scent wears throughout the day (which I enjoy about the lab’s white musk). I blind-bottled this, and I’m glad I did. Editing to add: it's now later in the day, and indeed this has faded the same way other white musk blends fade on my skin - very soft and soothing.

    Sleeping Cat

For some reason I thought I had already reviewed this! Sleeping Cat is lovely. It is definitely skewing spicy pine on a cool evening with a cat in your lap. I was surprised by this, I don't really know why, but I guess I didn't expect a "winter sky christmas cat" sort of scent. That being said - I love it. It's very peaceful and I can't wait for some cold weather to snuggle into it.

    Raminou

I bought this for the label, which has a beautiful ginger cat who looks just like mine, but i also love red musk blends. Well, this is peak BPAL in orange cat form! The red musk is in the forefront with the saffron, cashmere and red labdanum peeking out as well. I don’t detect the honey at all. The patchouli is a sweet undertone. It reminds me a lot of Serpent in the Roses, except instead of rose it’s red musk. It’s really good!!

    Magic Meemaw Purse Candy

This is wonderful. It reminds me of if you steeped Harney & Sons Crème Brûlée tea + Acid-Laced Butterscotch Lozenge and added some weed. The weed isn’t overpowering, it’s just like a good edible undertone.

From Whose Eyes As They Glance Flowed Love

I usually like to describe scents by mentioning what notes I detect because I find that most helpful when I’m reading other reviews, but for this one, all I can think is to just describe it as “absolutely beautiful” and a “perfect scent”. Yes, I definitely notice a little rose, but it’s not overpowering. The remaining notes all blend together in ways that I can definitely tell they’re there, but no one note dominates. When I’m wearing this, every time I catch up a whiff I’m like, gosh, this smells so great. It’s probably one of my top five favorites released in the past few years…and maybe of all time!

    The Serpent in the Roses

Yep I definitely agree with those saying this is BPAL. This is gorgeously blended. I'm getting red musk, rose, and something reminiscent of the actual namesake fragrance, Black Phoenix. The amber must be rounding this out in all its warmth. No soapiness, no cloying florals. It's hard to put this one into words other than just "this is great". The SO is very light in this one, but there; it's elegant and gorgeous all at once.

    Femdom

So I will pretty much try any blend that has the lab's Champagne note; it is a favorite and never disappoints, but sometimes what's blended with it can. Blackcurrant and I are generally not friends, so I was a little concerned about this one, but it turns out that was not necessary because this is a Champagne/Plum blend on me! The blackcurrant is barely hinting underneath, providing the slight floral note I think others have detected. I love the lab's plum, so this blend is a real hit for me. I smell like elegant candy hearts/sweet tarts dropped into fizzy champagne. Love!! I am editing this post over a year later (which I am deeply surprised that it’s already been that long!) to say that time has only improved this one. The plum in this has really blossomed and it is quite delicious. I am currently wearing it in the midst of a terrible hot weather streak, and I smell like a refreshing plum candy or beverage.

    Moondrunk

On me, this is definitely an absinthe-and-sugar-forward scent, backed by an underlay of champagne. Sweet and festive.

    Santa Doesn’t Need Your Help

I ultimately love it - it’s beautiful skin scent, but a terrible locket scent for me! On skin it’s a gorgeous sugar plum candy with the lavender adding a bright/tart edge. Everyone in my office is complimenting how good I smell using words like “sweet tarts” and “delicious candy!” In the locket, though, the lavender is adding a sourness to the sugar plum that sits wrong with me. It really needs my skin to blossom. Which is fine anyway because I really love the lab’s sugar plum on my skin!

    Forge of Vulcan

Oh damn I love this. It's smoky, it's musty, it's absolutely reddish blood amber poured over smoke, creating an incense-y vibe, but not too much and not too "this is a college dorm room". It's like a sophisticated, well-maintained wood-paneled basement that's got some incense smoke imparted into the couches over the years.

    Boozy Lemon Bars

I love this so much. I used to have an indie body cream in the early 00s that smelled like this. It's got the lemony-booze of Sour Lemon Smut with a carmelized custard crust that smells like it's just had the blowtorch applied. Stays pretty much the same on skin as it does when first applied. Baked Lemony goodness.

    In Silvery Accents, Whispering Low

This is a morpher! Freshly applied, it's a lot of pure coffee bean and cardamom goodness. As it fades, a vanilla/cognac-like note emerges, and the drydown is comforting and delicious.

    Ginny, the Reaper of Vengeance

Peppery cognac, with the tobacco flower adding an undertone of warmth. The "amber of her eyes" is indeed reminiscent of "Inside the Golden Amber of Her Eyes" so if you like that too, you may love this. (I do!)

    Welcome Unto Thee

I agree that this is nearly a Champagne SN, which for me is a win since I love the BPAL Champagne note. It's a bright, fizzy champagne with a hint of what's to me almost an orange cream soda undertone? Fantastic. If you love the Lab's Champagne note, you definitely need to try this.
