I'm getting equal parts fruity sakura hard candy and matcha. Very sweet, grounded by some starch, which I think is rice flour. That rice note pulls a little makeup-y, but I'm not mad at it. For some reason it reminds me strongly of pez candy.

I tend not to like peach, but this is nice! The peach and amber are the strongest notes, but the throw is not itself very strong. I'm also smelling a good amount of warm myrtle.
-
GRAPEFRUIT, white tea, a bit of apple blossom cream. Not getting any ginger. Smells very much like Method grapefruit hand soap.

Honey, sweet apples, pumpkin, ginger. Starts soda-like and becomes deeper and more autumnal as it dries. Basically Kill-Devil but cozier.

Very happy my Ajevie decant arrived before the down date, because I need a bottle of this severely. Mostly sandalwood and pepper on me, sweetened by the ambergris. Faintly smoky, not overwhelmingly incensy, and extremely pretty. There is a touch of soapiness from the silk, but it's barely noticeable. Leans slightly masc. Very wearable.

The ti leaf and violet ash are the stars of this one. Very bright, fresh, and pretty. The ambergris combines with those two notes, and a touch of lemony frankincense, to create a fizzy floral foam (though I would not categorize this as an overall floral scent). The other resins are somewhat faint, more benzoin than myrrh. They do a very good job setting off the other notes, like a pillow for a jewel. The silver musk is lovely, smoothing the whole thing out and making it feel quite sophisticated. The musk, ambergris, and violet last longest in the drydown. I was hoping for a more resinous scent, but I'm sure that will develop with age. Reminds me very strongly of some of the fougeres Possets does, especially Grande.

Starchiness from the ube, and a milky creaminess (which might have a coconut element?), and powdered sugar. There's a hint of light, buttery pastry in the wet phase but that quickly goes away. Very similar to PS Halo-Halo, but without the spice. That's exactly what I wanted, so yay! Unfortunately, it's also veeeery low throw.

I have an antique brick of unknown provenance next to me for comparison, and I must say this is dead on for wet brick. I think what was throwing me off with the perfume is that it's so strong, but if you get very close to a wet brick and take a big whiff there is a very faint, but almost identical scent. I agree that in the bottle there's a strong dead leaves vibe. However, I think given the way it goes a bit sweet/vanillic on the skin, and the concept, that it might be a hay note. Overall, this is a sweet, mineralic clay + hay scent that is much friendlier than the advertised "grit and obstinance" implies. "Kiln-fired clay" and "sand" also implies a dry scent, but that's not what this is. Instead, this evokes old brick roads drying in the sun after a good rain.

A slightly floral, waxy, very powdery and realistic lipstick note, which the clove compliments perfectly. Does what it says on the tin, and it's very pretty. This is A Melancholy of Goths' baby sister, who wants to grow up to be just like her.

This is super fun when wet, and unlike anything else I've tried. I am distinctly getting the ube ice cream, flan, evaporated milk, dried coconut, and tapioca pearls. Creamy, sweet, heavy yet bright, and chewy. The pumpkin spice starts to take over on the drydown, which is a bit sad. I want a version of this without the pumpkin spice!!

Sturgeon Moon: Ambergris and Lichen
monocainsheresy replied to Jenjin's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
The lichen absolutely dominates this one on me. Very clean, green, juicy, with a touch of sweet-salty musk from the ambergris. Pretty, but I hope the ambergris will come forward with aging.- 4 replies

Mostly calamus and amber - a sweet, vanilla-y resin scent with hints of spice (nutmeg and clove from the bay laurel) and a distinctly fruity undertone. I was hoping this would be more medicinal and herbal because of the bay, but alas. It's more akin to a Christmas candle.

Overwhelmingly juniper and cypress at first, drying down to mostly galangal supported by the remnants of the juniper and a hint of eucalyptus. I tend to shy away from evergreen scents because of how strong they are, but the way this calmed down and turned mostly to galangal has me intrigued. This is more cabin-in-the-woods than actual trees.

Sharp green ti leaf and honey, with the saffron and a bit of sandalwood coming out as time passes. Sweet, warm, translucent emerald and gold - like sunlight through leaves.
-
White floral, sea salt, and citrus. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess lily, grapefruit or possibly mandarin orange (I agree with @Honey that you can smell pith), and maybe a hint of ginger? This one is for the folks who buy ocean-scented candles.

This is remarkably similar to The Fiery Mountains on me. Like, almost exactly the same, but with rose added. Powdery, smoky black rose over a clove/incense/orris base that transcends its components and becomes almost a spiced hot wax single note. I agree with the general consensus of vintage drama.

Galanthus Nivalis, Single Snowdrop
monocainsheresy replied to doomsday_disco's topic in Limited Editions
Agree that this is almost entirely snowdrop. "Stark white and spring green" is a very accurate description. Strong white floral but also very bright dewy green. I get a slight (very slight) bite of something darker underneath but can't pick out the ink or myrrh distinctly. I also get the bubblegum impression that doomsday_disco mentioned. Overall it weirdly reminds me of general catalog Dragon's Blood? That's a very wet floral scent on me, and though these two smell nothing alike Galanthus Nivalis seems to be distantly related. Imagine GC Dragon's Blood but white instead of red. Looking forward to seeing if aging brings out the myrrh and ink more.- 7 replies

Smells just like a blue cotton candy flavored Dum Dum lollipop! The petrichor shows up as a very faint wetness, but that's it. Reminds me of a mall somehow, but not in a bad way. I really wanted the candy-incense other people are getting, but alas. Maybe aging will bring it out.

Mostly champaca incense and hairspray for me, but I can also smell the velvet (very worn and dusty) and a hint of plum. The clove is trying valiantly to claw its way up but I can only smell if I get super close. Metallic, powdery, and utterly evocative of the concept. I think everyone has the potential to really like this regardless of their general preferences. It's witchy, it's goth, it's floral but not floral, it's sweet but not gourmand, it's classic and it's weird. It's even got a bit of that freshly-opened-BPAL-package smell. Dare I say that it's a masterpiece?

2023 version Full disclosure, this smells very scary in the bottle. Thankfully, the jasmine is not nearly so fecal on the skin. This is all frothed vanilla-rose foam on me, with a touch of jasmine that manifests as a light oudh note. I attempted to make rosewater meringues a few months ago and they smelled almost exactly like this. Reminds me of Pink Snowballs and Vampire Lace.

Sweet, vanillic, dry hay and corn, slightly astringent chamomile, and a distant background of warm rye and a pinch of dirt. Very soothing and outdoorsy.

Very herbaceous lavender, very rich vanilla, and... really aggressive burnt sugar? Tonka? This honest to god smells like a deep fried bundle of lavender. As odd as that sounds it actually does smell how being super sleepy and cozy feels.

I can smell each note in the description individually, in roughly equal measure, and oh it is fantastic. This smells like what it says it smells like and it's perfect. I don't really know what else to say, except maybe to imagine Dorian and Dee having a summertime lovechild.

yeah that's milk chocolate alright. very nutty

Big blast of amber-myrrh-saffron goodness at the start, but it quickly becomes a fairly simple almond-lotus scent. I think the musk is in there somewhere keeping it from completely flying away, but the overall impression is one of expensive almond soap. Not soapy, mind you, but that very clean spa-type kind of scent. The musk and a bit of the amber come out slightly on the drydown.
