  1. on me, this is a really interesting scent. It reminds me a bit of Lady of Shallot, but that is a more melancholy scent...a bit colder. this is a creamy lily scent, to my nose....I don't really smell anything else, other than lily, and I guess I am discovering I like lily (real stargazers make my allergies go nuts, though, and the scent is sickly sweet--same with sweet peas).

I think I might agree with Persephone's Child about Alice...I couldn't place it, but I kept thinking about Alice perfume today...I am not sure why. At some point, when it is drying down, I get this weird whiff of Dragon's Milk, too! And then, randomly, I smelled incense(?) At any rate, this perfume is very sweet, very innocent--when I sniff this, I get the mental picture of that Waterhouse maiden, dressed in pink, with the wind blowing her hair...

At any rate, I wish I had smelled this before The Lady, because I actually like this a bit better--but I don't know that I can justify two light florals! Maybe I ought to visit the swaps page....

  2. I'm going on a 7 day cruise to the Mexican Riviera (Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, & Puerto Vallarta) in March, and I'd love some scent recommendations for it since none of my current favorites really say "cruise" to me. On a day to day basis, I usually wear Morocco, Embalming Fluid or Parlement of Foules for nice occasions.

    Thanks in advance! :P

    Xiu (in my signature!) Pele!

  3. so--in the imp--total almond goodness. Sadly, almond never works on me, but I am hopeful.

initially, this smells like cherries and almond and actually smells...exactly like Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper. Mmmmmm.

But after it is on a few seconds, this dries to a powdery incense-y perfume-y mess. It smells nothing like it did in the imp or on me, at first. Off to swaps we go! Another almond mix strikes out!

  4. this smells like a yellow apple on me, very mellow and non-crispy. It is more a more soft, round scent---there isn't that tart edge that I like in fruit scented things...

it is pretty, but it ends up with that fruit candle smell on me that I am not fond of.

I think of the two apple scents I have tried, I prefer Poisoned Apple...

  5. Red Door reminds me of a happy summer I spent reading Oz books and making my own Oz paper dolls:) I think my mom must have worn it at the time, because every time I smell it I get this barely graspable memory of Ozziness and wistful wishes to go to Oz and my Mommy:)

I think I have heard of BPAL that reminded someone of Red Door...maybe I should research this!

Now, on the other hand---Estee Lauder's Beautiful makes me want to vomit. It reminds me of this friend I had in highschool that was totally crazy and a verbally abusive bitch to me. I smell it, and it smells cold and soulless and evil to me.

  6. Pele would be nice for when one feels sticky and sweaty...it's fresh and clean and not smothering...another thought was Poisoned Apple or Gennivre...

I don't tend to put on perfume when I work out, because I don't want to annoy anyone, but if I know I am going to the gym or a pilates class later, I might use those perfumes throughout the day (I have to reapply constantly to keep any scent on me, anyways).

  7. Can anyone think of a GC that is similar to Angeronalia?

I have a back up bottle on the way from a forumite but I'm still worrying I'll run out of my most favourite scent so would love to find something similar. :P It's the warmth, sweetness and brightness that I love so much in Angeronalia.

I think that Mad Kate is somehow similar to Angeronalia. It is a very different type of scent, but the complexity and layers seem parallel...Like cousins, rather than sisters or something. Mad Kate is 1000 times sweeter and more floral, though. Xiu doesn't smell anything like Angeronalia to me, but I love it--it might be worth trying it since I also love Angeronalia:) Maybe we are scent twins;) I have always wanted one

  8. this smells weird on me...a little floral, and a little like men's cologne*, and a little like fragranced bath room cleanser. there is a weird undertone to this that is sort of acrid--maybe the dandelion? I love the description and wanted to lurve this, but it just didn't work. :P

*I tried this on during my third period that I teach--one of my sixth grade boys might or might not have been wearing some cologne or axe spray or something that would account for the men's cologne smell. It's just that it didn't smell cheap and shitty like axe, it smelled faintly like Gucci's Envy, so I doubt it!

  9. I lay perfume on pretty thick (or at least I always thought so) because of oil sucking skin...even when I used Angel or Spring Fever, though, I only went through a bottle a year. Weird....I guess I don't slather as much as I thought. I have barely put a dent in any of my bpals, and the only imp I have ever used up was my half decant of TKO. I think it is because there are so many options!

I could see myself using a bottle of TKO--nighttime slathering-- and Pele quite quickly, though. Pele is so clean and inoffensive--I will probably drown myself in it when it gets hot out.

  10. this comes off on me as a sweet strawberry--not fakey bubblegum strawberry, but not exactly real strawberry, either....it's nice and reminds me of an oil I used to wear as a teenager.

It does not get that weird candle smell i tend to get from fruity stuff lately :P ...I wish I smelled more of the neroli but this is quite pleasant.

  11. I like this--it smells slightly dirty/ musky and slightly sweet. for some reason I assumed it had dragon's blood in it, but I don't think it does. My mom smelled it on me and said it smelled like a Kool-Aid packet....I thought it had a tinge of violet in it, too, which it doesn't seem to. Hmm...what a mysterious scent! It finally dries to sort of a powdery smell. I like it; I don't think I will buy a bottle but my imp is staying with me--it's been officially sorted into the "M" section (I use a bead box for my imps and alphabetize them!)

  12. The thread for the East Coast will call is here. As you can see, there are children younger than 15 at the event and there are specific hours for the will call - they generally don't go all day. I've never been to the East Coast events, but I have been to the one at the lab. Much fun! :D

Thanks for the link! I especially love the pics of the marked-up arms! :D

I ask because I go to Dragon*Con every year, and while I love it, there is NO WAY I would take a fifteen-year-old there late Saturday night...though it's great during the day!

I actually took our church music director's 13 year old daughter to Dragon*Con last year, and she went with us to several of the nighttime concerts! I'd have been much more comfortable taking her to Will-Call, I think! :P

uhhhhh..what exactly goes on at this so-called Dragon*Con??? I am imagining something like the nighttime activities of the plushy conventione attendees in that one CSI episode: SexyKitty and the civet oil!

  13. I absolutely adore this blend. It is so amazing. At first, I thought...generic floweriness--pretty but I already have a few florals. But then I smelled a teensy bit of delicious rose--and I don't even like rose. Well, it turned out to be the rose geranium (which I do love) playing hide and seek....finally a strong honey note pops out and lasts and lasts. It reminds me a little tiny bit of Angeronalia but 100 times more gorgeous, girly and warm.

This is the first blend where I feel I have truly witnessed the famous Mighty Morphing Bpal Power...this is the first bottle I would consider getting multiples of, as well! I have one coming to me from the sales thread and maybe one being purchased for me from one of the retail stores. I am in love :P

  14. I love Daisy by Marc Jacobs. Does anyone know how Maenad compares?

Daisy: top notes- wild strawberry, violet leaf, and ruby red grapefruit, heart notes- violet, jasmine, and gardenia, base notes- vanilla infusion, musks, and white woods.

On me: the strawberry amps, there's some green, only a hint of citrus. Later I get the vanilla and musk. Hardly smell any florals, very little woods.

Okay, I just ordered a free sample of this from the website! I smelled it in a magazine and it was great. I don't think Maenad smelled anything like it, though. On me, Maenad smells like a strawberry shortcake doll...but in the imp, it smells a bit more complex. i think it would be worth a shot....

  15. I don't know what to do with this scent. I am not sure whether I like it and think it smells of incense and apples or...do I think it smells like ant spray and is headache inducing? I can't tell yet, but I am sure as hell going to find out!

  16. This smells straight up like Victoria's Secret Vanilla Lace, which is vanilla with a lemon-y tinge. It is nice, but my imp is more than enough. I used to wear that scent a long time ago and am sort of over it by now. Any of you vanilla lovers out there though--snap it up!

  17. In the imp, this smells like rotting, fermented fruit and stinky feet.

On me, it smells okay, and then as it dried, it smelled amazing. I think. My nose and brain do not know what to do with this perfume! It smells floralish and spicyish and woodyish....

I wish I had noticed that it was discontinued YESTERDAY! because I think I might have wanted a bottle:(

  18. This smells like strawberry candy with a bit of the candy edge taken off, probably by the other ingredients...i don't recognize the other scents, but the super sweet aroma is tempered a bit--it does smell a bit like a non-smoky Hollywood Babylon. It also reminds me of strawberry chapstick.

I like it--I smell like a mellow Strawberry Shortcake doll, but i would like a tarter strawberry scent, I think. I don't think I would buy a big bottle but I could see this as a scent that a high school willowtreeling would have loved!

  19. smells fruity in the bottle, but different on--sort of more "perfume-y" than I usually like, but it is really lovely. It is not a perfume that smells like a thing, if you know what i mean--it is its own smell.

I can smell the nectarine (one of my favorite fruits!) a little, and sometimes the patchouli whiffs in a teensy tiny bit as it is drying--not enough to scare anyone away, though (patchouli haters, be not afraid). I think a lot of the gardenia is coming through, too...i tend to amp things like that and jasmine. I don't really smell any other individual notes, except maybe honey....it seems to be a really well-blended fragrance, where all the notes harmonize nicely.

This is a more mature and lady like scent--nothing frivolous here. i imagine it as peach and red, like a nectarine.
