  1. In the bottle, it is nice and cakey--sort of like a lemony/vanilla bundt cake with icing or something--like Love's Philosophy.

On me, a slightly more perfume-y quality emerges....

It is sort of meh on me...inoffensive, but nothing super special; that's okay though, because I really bought it for the adorable bottle, which I am going to use for....i don't know what, I just like it!

(I accidentally dumped half of it down the bathroom sink:( )

  2. Harikata smells very similar to O on me....O that is a little less heady and a little more zingy and fresh--it has a melon-y tang to it that is quite refreshing and pretty.

Actually, it smells a bit like O and Selkie had a baby. A gentle, sweet baby.

It makes my mom's eyes water, but I sort of want it....I have a few hours, decisions, decisions....

  3. I got a decant of this and wasn't that impressed...it smelled nice, but like something I would have worn when i was younger--a Demeter dessert perfume or something.

However, a month or so after I got the decant, I smelled it again and decided that it was to die for---it is not complex on me--it's pretty much straight up cotton candy, but I love it. maybe because my natural smell is a little musky. At any rate, I managed to swap for a bottle, and I am quite pleased. Its definitely what I wear when I want to feel girlish and simple...Midway makes me feel like I should be at a county fair, wearing pink and white checked gingham and have my hair in pigtails, eating an icecream cone in the hot sunshine.

  4. interesting scent. orange-y smelling at first, then sort of violet-ish. The patchouli comes out later...

This is the only perfume that a student has complimented on...I was walking by a desk and a little boy said, "You smell nice, Miss Willowtreeling" I was so surprised :P

  5. In the bottle this smells nice--I get the cocoa and fig and I don't what the rest of the notes are (I can't really identify them, I mean)...but on me, all I smell is cedar. I went and looked it up and sure enough, wood notes. My skin LOVES cedar. Sadly, I think it smells horrible:( Pity, it smelled nice in the bottle--well, my loss is someone else's gain, I suppose:)

  6. I had a friend who was my age and she hated all broccoli all her life. I have loved cooked broccoli all of mine:) She was the one who told me that it had to do with some enzyme or something and people who had it tasted broccoli as a very unpleasant bitter tasting veggie. I dunno where she got that info. though:) It could be one of those old wive's tales...

  7. I smell creamy vanilla soda:) or white cake-and it doesn't have the weird cake-y/ waxy note that Channikayah had. it's nice but doesn't knock my socks off. i don't get that wintergreen tinge people are talking about, but I do get a sort of dry smell, similar to the wintergreen lifesaver smell I got off of Snow White.

The lasting power isn't very long. I don't wear simple vanilla scents much these days, but I like this one and Midway.

  8. AFAIK cilantro is when you use the leaves, and coriander is the seeds of the same plant. I thought this was interesting...

"Some people instead perceive an unpleasant "soapy" taste and/or a rank smell. This is believed to be a result of an enzyme that changes the way they taste coriander leaves, a genetic trait, but has yet to be fully researched" (from wikipedia)

So this might be why it smells like mildewed towels for me most of the time?

I have heard the same thing about broccoli...

  9. Willowtreeling, peach and apricot are extremely iffy on me (the only blends w/peach I can wear are Titania, Snow Angel, Aglaea & The Ecstasy of True Love, and just forget the apricot! Siren does have apricot listed in the notes and trust me, it reared its hideous orange face to mock me when I tried it.)

But nectarine has been a pleasant surprise! Angeronalia was a winner from Yule for me too. I really like Ebisu and it's on my list of bottles I need to pick up before Lupercalia evaporates. The combination of sweet nectarine with the earthy oakmoss and the light, warm musk is really pretty, all three notes balance each other very nicely. I love Croquet too, again the light musk seems to be a really good companion for the nectarine and the citrus notes keep it from being too sweet.

There's nectarine in Butterflies and Plovers, too, but that one wasn't great on me - I think it could be the ylang ylang, which can go either way on my skin. (The notes are blood orange, King mandarin, nectarine, patchouli, violet, ylang ylang, and amber.)

i am happy i have a decant of Ebisu coming:) I hope I get it in time! If not, I might order it anyways, and hope that I can swap it or something. I was iffy to try Butterfies, but I think I have a decant of that coming as well...

Nectarines have a special place in my heart--the house where I spent the first six years of my life had a nectarine tree and I have some early memories of eating them in the hot sun:)

  10. I've seen a lot about peach and apricot, but what about the nectarines? I think they are delicious. I am waiting for a decant of the Shunga blends for Ebisu, which contains nectarine..other than that, I think it is down to Croquet?

Algaea smelled oddly on me-- a bit bitter, like an herbal tea that has steeped too long or like tasting ink.

Fae had a weird baby wipes note, as did Katharina:( The clove in March Hare put me off. I know I have tried Yerevan, but I don't remember what I thought--I swapped it away, though, so....

I love Imp but am self-conscious about wearing it out, because it is so patchouli on me, but smells great--it's the best possible of patchouli: pretty, earthy, sexy. Depraved smelled awful on me--the worst patchouli scent.

so, what's next on my peach quest....

I am confused about references to Siren, as it doesn't seem to have any peach/ apricot notes. Other than that...Tamora?

ETA: I forgot another nectarine love: Angeronalia :P

  11. Hellcat

    The Candy Butcher

    Bliss

    Velvet (?)

13--there is tons of bottles of the pink/ green label 13 available on the sales/ swaps pages

Love's Philosophy smells like a vanilla soda on me.

Hecate and Black Phoenix have this cherry vanilla doctor pepper smell in the imp but turns weird on me.

Dana O'Shee smells like almond pastry

    Chimera---cinnabon

Cockaigne is less sweet and has a sweet bread smell before a red wine-y smell

Midway, definitely, but it isn't as easy to find (I just hunted down a bottle for myself!)

Knave of Hearts--I have only sniffed it but it seemed like it had a similar cake-y scent, like Eat Me

  12. I think it has a tangy, slightly pungent smell....my mom always jokes that she wants to put a sprig of it behind her ear, she loves it so much. I can't imagine a perfume actually capturing that smell, but who knows? the thing is, that I would rather have a cilantro single note, as opposed to a blend. I am sure it would smell nice mixed with citrus and such (like that Pier One candle) but I would just like straight up cilantro!

I might have to go to Baja Fresh as soon as my taste comes back. (stupid flu/ cold/ scurvy/ consumption, or whatever the hell it is)

  13. Thanks for the reply. I checked out the links and unfortunately it seems that most are smelling the corriander in the more common scents. Corriander to me is way different than cilantro although they do come from the same plant. I am after that cilantro that no one else seems to be fond of. It looks like spooky or star might be my best bet. I am certain they are far too elusive for me though. I guess I can cross my fingers and hold my tongue just right that someday.....

    edit to add:

You are amazing with the search thing on this forum. I have a hard time with just finding a name let alone as specific as you were. Thanks!

I, too, love the smell of cilantro. That and nasturtium....Garden Path with Chickens might be good if you want an herby, grassy smell...I like it, but isn't quite what I was hoping (it has nasturtium in, but no cilantro)

BTW--if you should try other e-tailers, Elementals Cool Cilantro smells like Gazpacho :P

  14. this is a pretty scent. I liked it--it smells very familiar...I get a musky vanilla from it and a dark ruby fruit scent. It didn't dry me out, nor did it make me super oily--it was a very pleasant bath:) I will be ordering more bath oils soon!

ETA: I think I know what it smells like now--Eat Me:) Black currant, I think?

  15. Next update, I'm thinking about picking up a CD bottle or two- but I don't know where to start! So far I've tried Xanthe (pretty, not my favorite ever, but not ew) and Boomslang (not a big Snake Oil fan, so it's swapped away.)

I like rich, foody notes, boozy notes, and I love fruit scents. My favorite BPAL's so far are Eat Me, Mr. Nancy, MB: Closet, Fire Pig, and Jack. Oh, I love Grog and Jailbait too. I'm pretty not into florals, and I REALLY hate jasmine and gardenia. I also can't stand the milk note like in milk moon. Oh, and I'm fairly allergic to clove oil.

Have any ideas of some bottles I might like? I'm not against taking a risk on something that I may have to swap away.

do not try melissande, that much i can tell you!

  16. I find neroli and geranium oil to be very effective in terms of aromatherapy...

TKO is good for me, and Mouse's Sad Long Tale is :P..I don't know what it is about it, or what notes, but it makes me smile when I have it on. O is another one--it makes me feel cozy and loved. When I first started getting sick, I slathered myself with O and cuddled up in bed and it made me feel better.

(This isn't bpal, but i have to say that Arcana's Sweet Trade smells exactly like Lush's Happy for Sad, which really did make me smile and cheered me right up.)

ETA: I don't know that I for sure have SAD, but it sure as hell seems like it.

  17. in the imp, i can smell lots of things. but on me, it is pretty much all patchouli with a teeny bit of orangey-ness. It doesn't smell bad or anything, but I prefer Imp to fulfill my patchouli needs.

Masquerade doesn't remind me of a masquerade; it makes me think of highly polished, russet colored antique furniture...

  18. does anyone know of a bpal that smells like Vera Wang's Princess?

    Princess

Created for the playful, unpredictable, independent woman who treats every day like an event and adventure. This is a woman who likes to make her own magic, this sheer, flirty blend of water lily, lady apple, mandarin meringue, and golden apricot skin are melded with sheer floral notes, accented with dark chocolate, and finished with a pink frosting accord, amber, warm woods, musk, and vanilla - a whimsical treat.

    Notes:

Water Lily, Lady Apple, Mandarin Meringue, Golden Apricot Skin, Ripe Pink Guava, Tahitian Flower, Wild Tuberose, Dark Chocolate, Pink Frosting Accord, Precious Amber, Forbidden Woods, Royal Musk Captive, Chiffon Vanilla.

    Style:

    Sheer. Tropical. Delectable.

My sister likes Princess and she was so kind as to take care of me and our mother while we were sick on her birthday weekend vacation. I want to get her a bunch of stuff and the vera wang is so $$$$$, that I could only get her just that. With Bpal, I could get her an Alice T and some earrings from another site, too:) it seems like I would have to layer some things here....maybe Love's Philosophy with something? I know Lady of Shalott and Ophelia have water lily....gah! I think this will be a tough one.

  19. i had no idea what notes were in this blend when i put it on....at first i though tea? and then, it reminded me of Juliet. It smells creamy and sweet. I really really like it--this is what I wish Alice or the White Rabbit smelled like.

t doesn't really smell like vanilla, amber or sandalwood to me and the sweet pea doesn't smell like the sweet pea that grows outside my window (that makes me sneeze) but that is what I recognized from Juliet, I guess. It also doesn't smell floral, or foody.

I don't know, but it reminds me of fresh, blue and white striped laundry on a clothesline in a beautiful garden, blowing gently in a breeze. Very Victorian, very Alice. I love it and I think it will go on my next order for a big bottle.

  20. In the imp, i really find this displeasing. This surprised me, as I love ginger and most patchoulis (even if I don't like them on me) and honeysuckle is pretty. It honestly smelled exactly like an extremely potent bag of Doritos to me.

As it is wet on my skin, the Doritos scent remains, and there's the ginger...that part smells night, but there is still this lingering....weird scent. Kind of rotten? I am not sure, but it is really unappealing to my nose.

As it dries down, there is only the faintest hint of that first unpleasant component....it actually smells quite nice now--like cinnamonny Dragon's Blood....It isn't for me, but it is definitely peppery and gingery and spicy.
