    Egg'd Mailbox

OK, at first sniff in the vial, this seems sweet and musky... quite pleasantly so. As soon as I put this on, and while it is wet, it becomes a sweet custardy scent with bits of a musky spiciness underneath- oh so lovely. But THEN, as this dries (this is so odd), it smells exactlly like a FERRET on me! A clean ferret, yes, but after growing up with ferrets most of my childhood years, the musky smell is unmistakable. This goes very, very ferret musk with my skin chemistry. I will have to try this a different time of month and see if this changes... Quite odd...

    Sleepytime BPAL

Yep, same here. I am a bit of a 'type A' personality, and am up until 3 or 4 in the morning every night with thoughts and ideas that just keep running through my head. I have been this way since I was a kid, so it has been like this for about 15-20 years. I find that Chamomile tea helps a bit, or Valerian, Skullcap and/or and Passionflower extract when it is bad. I use the TKO oil frequently, and the smell is soothing, so it helps a little. Reading books sometimes helps get me sleepy too, as do warm scented baths before bed. Badger also make a great sleep balm. And my little one (she is almost 5) is exactly the same, though the Badger balm and chamomile tea seems to help her quite a bit. I sort of wonder if it hereditary at all at this point, or if it has something to do with me being on that schedule while pregnant. On the plus side, I accomplish a lot of stuff!

    Crypt Queen

In the bottle, this smells truly like peppery bubble-gum! A fruity gum with a bite to it, if you will... When on, it darkens a bit, and becomes a sweet but forbodingly dark scent with that peppery bite that tickles the senses. It is all dark red and purple fruits on me, (I don't get much for florals from this) with the ever so slight background of damp earthiness of the crypt and a tinge of the coppery blood accord. Everything is very well blended in this one, and it drys down very similar with the pepper and blood becoming a bit more prominent as it does. I just adore this blend! So dark, mysterious and stunningly beautiful....

    Snow Bunny

This one is christmas trees in clean fallen snow that is starting to go slushy and hiding crushed berries beneath it, tart but sweet at first, then drying into a mellower creamy loveliness. At drydown it seems to almost get a hint of vanilla behind the slushy note. This is like a feminine version of Talvikuu to my nose... Beautiful!

    Strawberry Moon 2005

Mmmmmm... When I was a kid, I had a bottle of Strawberry oil that was made by Spiritual Sky, and it was like, my prized possession. I used up every drop, and then kept the bottle to lovingly sniff. I have looked back on this oil longingly many time, but as I am unsure of the ingredients used, and if these are 100% natural or not, I have hesitated to ever buy another bottle. Strawberry Moon however, comes very close. It is the same rich smell of slightly too ripe strawberries, bursting with sweetness, and grounded by a tiny touch of strawberry leaf. It has excellent lasting power, and a very good throw as well. This one gets a high grade on my behalf- If only it was not so hard to come by...

    Mistletoe

This one is Christmas, rolled up into imp form... Pure Christmas trees, mistletoe, holly berries and snow! It is sharp and green, but sweet and lovely at the same time. Memory provoking. This would be an AMAZING room scent for the holidays, or even sprayed onto a fake tree to add some oomph.... Mmmm, Christmas...

    Spirits of the Dead

This one stirkes me as a very crisp, clean type of smell that makes me think of sunshine on clean sheets and iced tea on a summer day. It is so wispy feeling, with just a tiny bit of the wood note in the background anchoring it down. I really pick up a citrusy smell that is not quite lemony mingling with a sweet, aquatic smelling floral. I would not have ever picked this up on my own looking at the notes, but I am glad this was a random purchase, as it is really quite nice...

    Anaconda

To me, this is a super sweet, caramel and butterscotch pancake syrup, drizzled over snake oil and topped off with just a dab of sweet cream butter. It has a faint whiff of tobacco keeping it grounded and lending an incense kind of feel to the sweetness. Foodie lovers are going to really love this one! I see the comparisons to Gluttony, but this is really like nothing I have ever smelled from BPAL before. It also has some incredible throw and staying power! Quite excellent.

    Snowblind

This one is an absolutely beautiful vanilla mint. I really get the underlying buttery yellow cake note like other reviewers have mentioned, and it is a soft, subtle blend on my skin that is not overpowering like some mints. It borders on foody smelling, but retains a clean crispness at the same time. Quite lovely.

    Lump of Coal

This one is pure chocolately indulgence- So true to the scent of ooey-gooey baking brownies that it makes me want chocolate! This has got to be one of the best of the BPAL chocolates ever... it makes Bliss simply pale by comparison! Mmmmmm, chocolate goodness....

    Blinding Glory of Love

Egads, Beth wasn't kidding when she said to use this one with caution! I wore this out to my favorite club two Sundays in a row now, and I have been floored. Sure, people flirt a lot and all, and since I know a lot of the regulars there, have a ton of friends there, and like to dance, people talk to me quite a bit. But christ. I literally had some guy (umm, this is embarrassing ) bowing down to me and showering me with compliments, as I was surrounded on all sides by other guys... and the thing is too... it really seems to mean it about the 'amourous reactions without discretion' because not only was I getting hit on by straight guys and a few bi-chicks (it is an alternative club), but totally straight chicks (wtf?) and also a completely gay guy (seriously- I have friends who know him- completely gay) who literally would not leave me alone (he kept touching me all over and saying 'Don't worry- I'm gay) until they escorted him out... (again, wtf?) Not to mention a woman who would-not-take-no for an answer until someone stepped in... And I must say- when I put this on and my BF is around, it is like a light goes on and he starts sniffing. Seriously.... I'm not going to go into any more detail, but... ummm this stuff really seems to work. Use with caution folks... ETA: Oh yeah... and it smells like musky mint and something a bit floral and off smelling... I'm not a huge fan of the scent, but that doesn't seem to matter...

    Wulric, the Wolfman (2006)

Oooh, I am a sucker for the chocolate scents! This one frightened me when reading the notes because I usually cannot tolerate most any form of vetiver (or vetivert), and the lavender/chocolate combination intrigued me, as I have had chocolate bars infused with lavender, but as perfume? Wow, this is lovely. The chocolate/lavender combination is divine! The vetiver is not even rearing its head, and there is a gorgeous vanilla undertone that makes everything so beautiful and, well, CUDDLY! I think the vetiver is actually just lurking in the backdrop and rounding the scent out to keep it from being too sweet. It smells heavenly on me, but would smell just as good on a guy... This one is a big winner!

    Brass Balls

This scent is reminicent of those purple or maybe white 'conversation hearts' that get passed around on Valentine's day and say things like "Love Me' and what not, with a very sharp polished brass undertone. It is not entirely unpleasant, but nothing I would ever pick as a perfume if that were what it were. It does have an interesting mental quality to it that seems to impart a pick me up of sorts. My head actually feels a little funny after sniffing it, and I have not tried it in a social situation yet, but it makes me want to go tackle the world... I'll have to play with this one a bit longer and see what develops...

    Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo

This is a fruity, fun, super-sweet scent that does as it promises to uplift the spirit. I am a sucker for the sugary blends, and this one is nothing short of candy! It reminds me of a kids fruit punch drink, actually, with a orange/strawberry/cherry kind of sugary giddiness to it all rolled into one. Or maybe one of the fruit punch kinds of Bubbalicious bubble gum they made back when I was a kid. It is a juicy, powerful scent with a good amount of throw, and lasts for quite a while without changing or fading. Love, love, love!

    Boomslang

OMG OMG OMG! This scent is the holy grail of chocolate. Before BPAL I never really imagined wearing a chocolate perfume, (as much of a chocolate addict as I am) nonetheless, several of the chocolate blends have been delightfully wearable, but THIS... this is something else. It goes on so thick and rich that it stains my skin a chocolate color, and is so sweet and delicious I could swear it is edible. It is like the worlds finest cocoa dusted with sugary sweetness, creamy rice milk and pure vanilla extract. Almost like some incredible, thick chocolately hot cocoa with marshmallows melted right in. This is divine... must...have...more...

    The Queen's Salon

Thank you Lunakitten! This blend goes on with a floral scent dominating, and a kind of medicinal balm like smell underlying everything. As it sits for a moment, it picks up a sweet hay quality, and the medicinal scent fades away. Upon drying, this becomes a beautiful, sweet and juicy fruity floral with just a touch of darkness and spice to it. It drys to an elegant, velvety perfumey blend, and is really quite beautiful.

    Door 13

Thank you Lunakitten! This scent is such a chilling, clean ozone type of smell with an underlying sweetness that borders on fruity. This is not a typical aquatic type of smell at all, and though it has a cologne kind of feel, it is not like any cologne I have ever smelled before. This is an incredible unisex blend, and does have a very metallic feel to it. It has a wet rock tone underlying it all, that actually gives a very nice, powerful base feel to the blend. Like a cave with a stream running through and a fresh breeze with something sweet carrying on it. Not musty at all, but clean and sharp. This one is certainly a winner, though a most unusual blend.

    The Peacock Queen

Ooooo, heavenly! If you want a strong, lush, rich, true rose scent, this is it! It is so full bodied and velvety yet sharp with a very good amount of throw and wear length. Hours and hours later when it dries down it becomes a very sweet, subtle scent, not at all off or powdery like some oils on the drydown. This is a very regal scent, and though it does not quite top Hope for my all-time-favorite Rose (I am a sucker for the sugared blends), it comes in a pretty darn close second.

    Lucy Westenra

I had such high hopes for this with the notes listed (though a bit fearful of the Jasmine)... Thankfully, the Jasmine did not really show up at all, which is a bit odd, as I usually amp Jasmine quite a bit. This did not really send much out for the noted florals at all though, but instead started out sweet and powdery with the Orange Blossom being the only floral really coming through. After a short drydown time, this went really musky and powdery, and lost most of the sweetness for me. I actually got a smell a bit reminicent of hairspray underneath it all! Wet, it was nice (I love Orange Blossom!) but it just ends up waaaayy to powdery for me on the drydown.

    Snow Angel

Oooh, this one is just gorgeous! This reminds me very much of my Snow Bunny, but it is sweeter and fruitier, without as much of the pine coming through. I really don't get any of the peach, which I am glad of, since I am not a huge peach fan, and the lemon is very well tamed and does not amp like it tends to on me sometimes.... This is a very bright, happy, clean scent, with the tea ever so slightly shining through and rounding out the sweetness. Incredible loveliness!

BPAL scents appropriate for very young children?

Wow, so many good smelling wee ones out there! My daughter (who is not quite 5) is just in love with BPAL as well... She tracks the mailmans every move (MOOOOMMMM- The MAILMAN is here- He just picked up our MAIL- he's leaving a package!!! He's walking away Moooommmm..... Are you getting the mail or not?!?!) She then proceeds to follow me into the office and give me her impression of whatever I slather on that day. Usually it is quite favorable, but she has wrinkled her nose at a few. She has her own little vial of Velvet (one of her absolute favorites) that she proudly carries with her everywhere in a little purse along with her coveted organic chocolate lip balm... She really likes the April '07 13 and Tokyo Stomp as well (she asks for the 'chocolate' perfume often), though Velvet just smells like heaven on her, so that is the one she keeps with her. And I must say, all I have to do to discipline usually is threaten to remove the BPAL from her possession (seriously, she cleans her own room to keep this stuff!).... I guess it would probably work for me though too!

    Jinx Removing

Well, I must say that this one really threw me for a loop. I have had great sucess with a number of the TAL oils, but most of them the effects are not nearly as immediate. First off, this oil has a very pepperminty, menthol kind of smell and feel to it, both in the imp and during use. I used this this morning, being the new moon and all, and brought my imp into the shower with me (I am not one to take baths often). Before washing I put a number of drops on a washcloth, and gave myslf a rubdown with it in the running water. After washing up completely I then poured about half of the imp into my palm and briskly rubbed myself down with it directly from my hands, then using the residual left on my hands to give my face and hair a good wipe, all the while focusing on washing away the negativity with the warm water pouring down on me. I finished up, and stepped out and grabbed a towel, and wrapped it around me, almost immediately feeling like I was freezing (this is not just peppermint, that is certain!). I stood there for a minute feeling frozen to the core in the near 90 degree heat, and dreading the thought of going into my air conditioned bedroom for clothing... I then had this weird electric like wave wash over me, and felt almost to be in a state of altered conciousness for just a split second. After this odd electric sensation passed, I started feeling warmth spread over me ever so slowly, and went to lie down on my bed for a moment, as I felt a bit out of sorts. Lying there, I got this warm, fuzzy kind of feeling, coupled with a numbing sensation throughout my body, almost like when a limb goes to sleep on you. Kind of stiff and numbing, but not unpleasant by any means. All of this passed within about 20 minutes, leaving me feeling quite refreshed. One thing I noticed that was odd throughout the afternoon, however, is that it seems to have thrown my sense of taste out of whack. Everything I have eaten today tastes ever so slightly off... I do have a very strong sense of taste/smell, so I am not sure if someone else would notice this, but it did strike me as a bit odd. This oil is really something else!

    Honey Moon

I expected this to be sweeter than it was, which was a bit of a surprise, and I also expected the jasmine to amp as it always does on my skin, but instead this was actually a very musky, earthy kind of honey with only the slightest touch of floral to it. It was like a dark, thick rich honey, like the kind you can buy that is still encased in the comb, with that softly sweet beeswax smell enveloping it, and all of the inside sweetness not quite coming through. As it dries it gets a touch sweeter, and some of the florals dissapate a bit leaving an almost dusty sweetness. Nice, certainly, but not something I will go searching madly for. True honey lovers will love this though, as long as they are not looking for something ultra-sweet...

    Fairy Market

I must say that I expected more of a 'purple' scent for some reason... maybe I just associate purple with fairies or something! This is actually a very green, crisp and clean smell to me, like the wind through the grasses with a touch of sweetness from the blooming flowers nearby. I really didn't get much for incense or the fruitiness that some seem to have detected. To me this is grasses and lavender with a tiny touch of sugar that comes out more as the oil dries... There also seems to be a very faint underlying bitter smell hidden underneath it all, and someone had mentioned dandelion sap, which is pretty close. It is almost undetectable, but still there nonetheless. This would be a beautiful crisp green floral for the right person I imagine, but it doesn't quite do it for me... ETA: After a very long drydown period, this becomes much sweeter, and less sharp. More of a pretty floral than a green one. Much nicer after about an hour of wear.
  25. mystery213

    Pink Phoenix

This one works well on my skin, with an absolutely beautiful blending of the vanilla, strawberry and pear coming to the forefront almost immediately.... After a moment the sweet pea comes out a bit, and I do get the somewhat sweet-strawberry-plastic-like smell that others have mentioned, but it is not near enough to turn me away. At this stage it morphs into something very similar to Aunt Carolines Joy Mojo (which I love, by the way) and has a gorgeous, delicate pink sweetness to it that is both sexy but innocent at the same time. On drydown it gets a bit powdery, but retains its sweetness, and the scent stays pretty stong and true for quite a while... I would certainly welcome a bottle of this one.
