  1. This is the first oil that's taught me they really do need to settle a lot before choosing to swap away. I did not like this at first. Trying it on now I am so happy I kept it! It's salty feminine kind of musky maybe, I don't really know how to describe it. I recognize the carnation holding it together. The neroli sparkles a bit. I just love it and look forward to a bottle.

  2. Out of everything in my last order this is by far my favorite. And there was A LOT in my last order! It is motivating, and sparking, for me. I wear it when I start to lag mid morning, and have made a lot of progress with a project I'd otherwise neglect. I'm also approaching a big life change within the next couple weeks, which will take a lot of organization and courage. I'm hoping this can be inspiring to me in that sense as well. It is a gingery lemon tea scent which I love. Really recommend this.

  3. I like to wear this scent when I'm right out of the shower, or lounging around the house. It's just comfortable for me. It also has my favorite inspiration out of any scent by BPAL. I thought I didn't like frankincense, and in everything else it really doesn't work chemically on my skin, but somehow this defies that, maybe it's a different type or is tempered by something else. Also I tried it aged a bit back and it didn't quite work either. Fresh though it is my favorite GC oil I think.

  4. This is like a cool girl version of Happy by Clinique. I do get the glowing green feeling but can't pinpoint why, maybe it's just by association.

  5. This smells hot and humid to me, just like Sturgeon Moon. Maybe that's a characteristic of some of the Lunacy blends, to invoke a dark summer night. It's beautiful. If only the honeysuckle didn't star, I would wear it as my bedtime blend, or evening blend before bed. I should have stuck with my guns on the honeysuckle, knowing fully well I don't like them, as I learned devastatingly with Encroaching Madness - which I wanted to love so much because of it's inspiration being The Yellow Wallpaper short story by Charlotte Perkins Gillman! Anyhow if you love honeysuckle, which I know a lot of people do, this is a beautiful nighttime variation of it.

  6. This is sparkling strawberry leaf to me. Aurelia is also the name of a book by one of my favorite authors, surrealist/symbolist Gerard Nerval, so it's been on the back of my mind to try. Thank you Usagi for frimping this. All the other reviews sum it up, so I'll leave it at that!

  7. This isn't the lab's usual soda scented, fizzy carbonation blend. I think it's meant to be unnerving, hence the chaos noted in the description, and even does remind me of the smell of money. There's a sourness like sweat, overall I do get the impression of greed and hysteria. It evokes the concept perfectly. If you're into BPAL for the artistry, then this is a pretty amazing addition to the general collection, in my opinion.

  8. I like this, I find it calming, but I might use the whole bottle up before the week is through, because it's just not potent enough. the chamomile note is medicinal, but overpowered by vanilla, which isn't smoky in the least. I'll finish the bottle and enjoy it, but I wanted something with a little more boost.

  9. I use a pillow mist by Earth Therapeutics called "elixir of dreams". The first ingredient after water is valerian, followed by lavender, orange blossom, geranium, angelica and peppermint. It knocks me right out. I'd love to find or see a new bpal oil featuring valerian. I also just saw the movie so it's on my mind...

The orange blossom in this spray kind of kills it for me, I mean I love it actually, but never at first do I feel like that citrusy smell will be putting me to sleep, then suddenly I'm out. anyhow, anyone have ideas on something comparable in bpal? The lavender in TKO I'm not a fan of. But the lavender in Lurid I love.

for whatever reason though, valerian root doesn't seem to be featured in any of the somnium blends...

  10. Lamia is a tropical, summer perfume. It has a buttery quality from the coconut that I really enjoy, and great throw. In fact, I didn't really think much of it until I noticed it wafting around me at work, and felt comfortable and confident - often times I'm self-conscious about wearing bpal around others, but this is perfectly inoffensive and cool.

  11. This to me is one of the most beautiful Black Phoenix oils I've tried. It's not me at all, unfortunately, I wished my personality matched this! But for others I think it's so perfect. It reminds me very much of Dorian, although it's been years since I've tried Dorian, so correct me if I'm wrong... Either way I just wanted to show my love for it, especially with Dorian being out of stock.

  12.

I think I'm ready to play! Hopefully someone has good recs and thank you in advance!

My top 5, really hard to pick just 5. I'll pick the ones I most want similar alternatives to.

    1. Bathsheba

    2. Gun Moll (sexy date night scent?)

    3. Dragon's Hide (maybe a feminine version - the female equivalent to this?)

    4. Shoggoth

    5. Ogygia

    thank you guys!!!

Check out Horreur Sympathique since you love Bathsheba :)

For the more female version of Dragon's Hide, hmmmmm maybe The Black Rider or The White Rider. I love both, personally.

For Ogygia I think you may enjoy Yemaya.

Thank you for the recommendations! I always thought that The Black Rider and White Rider were single note scents, but now I see that's not the case. I'll try them!

  13. This is actually awesome. I remember ordering it in my first ever imp pack and absolutely hating it. Trying it now, and understanding BPAL better, really makes me fall so hard in love with the lab. At first, no, it does not appear wearable, just totally evocative of it's Aztec inspiration. And then once it dries down it becomes a real perfume, a real expensive seeming perfume, not just art. It's completely unisex.

  14. The first stage is so much like Halfling to me, then coconut, then it dries to a tropical fun summery scent. Unexpected progression, and I think I love it.

--editing this to say, I think I don't love it. It turns the same as Obatala at drydown, but I think I'll still wear it to the pool : )

  15. Top Four (I'm so new I don't even have 5!)

    1. TKO

    2. Antique Lace

    3. Samhain

    4. Gobo (could do with less cream I love sharp orange)

Currently trying to find/waiting for: stekkjarstaur and a moment in time. I adore lavender so much I got into BPAL because bronner's lavender soap never stuck around after a shower.

Seconding Schrodinger's Cat. It is truly unique and cheerful - orange, lavender and incense with just a touch of chocolate mint. I'll also add Kubla Khan for an orange/mandarin recommendation. Just tried it today, and it's a definite bottle purchase for me.
