  1. First impression: very lavender. I was almost a bit dissapointed with its straightforwardness.. until I put it on. It's a very juicy lavender, without the fresh tang straightforward lavender has. And after a while the cinnamon comes out, but very gently. Fades incredibly fast though.

  2. The onrange stands out A LOT first, but calms down after a while and gets wrapped around in a beautiful deep, incense type smell. It's still there, but not as bright and bubbly.

The phase between wet and dry is a bit...odd though. I'll just have to keep my wrists down for 15 minutes or so.

  3. Luuurve this. When it's wet, it's minty but with a sinister edge around it. When it dries, it becomes more wood or mud smelling, but in a very good way. I couldn't pull off the earthen scents (like Burial, Zombi) but this is just the right amount mixed with a watery freshness.

  4. The mint really jumps out at first indeed.. After a while it fades to the background a bit mre, and it turns into a green floral. I swear I can smell white flowers as well, or that could be just my nose? Very nice.

After wearing: O My god. I now have this all over instead of a tiny spot on my wrist, and it's amazing. It is fresh, but not a bright fresh, it's far more bitter. As for the concept captured in a bottle -brilliant.

  5. First sniff: this is EXACTLY like the drydown of Vixen

When wearing: it still is very similar to Vixen (well, with my body chemistry anyway) but it's sharper (the smoke smell) and sweeter (vanilla) at the same time. Vixen turns very round on my body, Snake Oil is a bit more aggressive. I'm not too sure about it yet.

  6. This is an absolutely beautiful sexy scent, with an edge of cinnamon to heat it up a little. But the best thing is that after 3 hours it had developed into a churchy, wood-y smell, as if you're in the church the day after, saying:'forgive me father for I have sinned..' :P Absolutely brilliant.

  7. This one is a perfect example to me that you shouldn't sniff these perfumes from the bottle, but they really need to be worn on the skin. From the bottle it smelled way to sharp and patchouli-ish to me, but on my skin it mellows out beautifully. A very warm, almost sweet scent. I can detect a hint of vanilla, but that's probably just my nose! Sexy.

  8. This is a difficult one. I have a strong memory of this scent from my early teenage years, I think it was tar soap what I used back then and this smells of it. Strongly. BUT:

I can also smell the concept Elizabeth has been trying to capture. There is a strong, sharp top/starting note, which smells exactly like the slap of leather would (it's not just leather). And it smells a bit, well, painful, and I'm not sure whether to love or hate it (probably a bit of both). Then a softer, warmer smell comes out, while the 'pain' smell goes a bit softer. Sometimes I could hardly smell it, and then suddenly I could get the strong, leather-y smell again, as if the places where the whip has hit you become sore again. It's a very heavy scent.

I can't beleive how well the concept has been captured in a blend, and eventhough it's not a favourite because of the tar soap association and the sharpness, it's a stunning piece of work.

  9. This is the captured scent of a cold, moonless night, lost deep within the darkest wood. Haunting and desolate, this scent evokes images of fairy tale tragedy and half-remembered nightmares. Thick, viscous pine with ambergris, black musk, juniper and cypress.

    From the Bewitching brews section.

I have grown to love this one. When wet, this is very piny and forest -like. You can smell soft flowers in the background. As the pine fades, the night flowers come out more and more, grounded down by something which I think smell like white musk (I know it isn't in the ingredients, but I can smell it... weird nose). Beautiful. My sample is half finished, and I'm worried already of running out.

Edited July: It's good fun to read back your older reviews. What I thought were flowers and white musk, was actually ambergris and black musk. sampling single notes is really educational.
