I absolutely LOVE the Papier d’Armenie burning papers! Does anyone have a recommendation for a, preferably GC, scent that’s a close match? The scent is benzoin (sweet, woody, vanilla), incense, and myrrh.

I'll be excited to hear your thoughts on re-sniffing! I actually ordered pure benzoin from For Strange Women, and while it's really lovely (I diluted in argan oil) it's not a match. Someone else recommended No. 93 Engine from BPAL, are you familiar with that one?

I hadn't thought of layering! I don't have any of the scents you mentioned, but looked them up and they all sound so delicious and my 'to buy' list has just blown up hahaha! Mad et Len's Petit Papiers sounds divine, the price tag not so much but oh my my! Guerlain makes one as well that's almost double what Mad et Len's sells for... I've had a read through most of the BPAL's with benzoin - are you familiar with Cathedral or The Magdalena? Have you ever tried a straight-up benzoin oil? I know For Strange Women makes one but they don't sell it in a tester size. I'm on a mission, ha!

this is such a complex scent on me, not at all a single note. which actually seems fitting because let's be real a literal riding crop, the wielder, recipient, relationship between the three is anything if not complex. in the bottle it's delicious leather with something like the scent of the master behind it. a delicious masculine scent; the musk? i'm awful at actual scent notes. dry down it loses all the leather on me and it's something sweet, feminine and soft but wild. not at all what i was expecting! it was said by someone above the leather smells a little "fake" and not like the other BPAL leathers and i'm inclined to agree. i still love it, but it's not what i was expecting. which, let's be real, is basically how i would describe a literal riding crop. i'm still hunting for my dream leather scent! the Fighter from the RPG series is close, the steel is the only note i'm like meh but i still love it. the Ranger from the same series is also amazing, probably the buckskin in it, but it doesn't have much staying power on my skin. i haven't tried any of the Riders! any suggestions on where to start if i'm looking for a truly "leather" scent?

all the reviews on Theodosius say it's a very "male" scent. Do you find that to be the case? I'm on the hunt for a truly Early Grey! With a touch of vanilla would be superb, like a London Fog latte

Extra dry skin!! I just posted a question about reacting to Snake Oil. I'm not sure what's in it (if you know, pray tell! Maybe there's black musk?) but I only react every once in a while and you just made me realize I think it's on days I don't put lotion on first! I forgot to put lotion on today and I reacted. I live in Denver and CO is SUPER CRAZY dry year round.

This might be covered at some point in this topic, but does anyone have a skin reaction to Snake Oil? It's the oddest thing. It doesn't happen every time I wear it (maybe 1 out of every 3 times), and only on my wrists and inside elbows (behind the ears, back of the neck, in between and under breasts are fine). It doesn't keep me from wearing it, as it mellows after 5-10 minutes, but I'm curious if anyone knows what the triggering ingredient might be so I can be careful when ordering other scents.
