  1. Mother Ghost is surprisingly sweet and comforting, without loosing her otherworldly quality/coldness. When wet, the orchid, tea and vanilla are the most proeminent, but as it dries the amber and what I think is the benzoin come forward a bit more. It's very elegant and not what I imagine Edith's mother would smell like at all as a scary black ghost. This Mother Ghost is more of a wispy, pale-white/blue ghost that doesn't scare her daughter half to death, but rather luls her to sleep peacefully. I need a big bottle.

    ETA

    I got a bottle :wub3:

  2. Oooh, thank you for all the interesting recommendations! The Waltz is lovely and I definitely need to stop neglecting my Katrina Van Tassel decant out of fear of running out :blush2: other than that I haven't tried the others, but the description (and the poem) for Body, Remember is so amazing :bunnyluv: I want to try it now!

Roses, Pearls and Diamonds also sounds right up my alley!

  3. As other reviewers have said above this is chamomile tea with a splash of honey. I don't get much tonka, but the hyssop is probably that floral note hanging in the background - I'm pretty bad at distinguishing florals. I think I had sniffed this before, but it didn't strike me as a remarkable scent so I didn't skin test it.

Last night I was needing to relax, and used AIaM as a sleep blend, and it works so well that way! It's not overly sweet/cloying but comforting and herbal, and I'm considering getting a big bottle just for those nights when I need some extra sleep motivation!

  4. I don't know if this topic already exists but I couldn't find it, so feel free to delete if this has been done!

I'm a huge sucker for novels, and I've just finished Far From the Madding Crowd, so I'm looking for a romantic, true love type of perfume. Not an in your face sexy but something maybe a bit creamy, but also airy and with a classic romantic tone. It could have any notes really, I just want to know if there's any perfume you guys associate with romantic love and all those cuddly feelings.
The only one I've seen recommended in this regard was Chuparosa but it has a bit too much cinnamon for me :( any ideas/suggestions? :wub3:

  5. Elf

Woodsy scents are my favourite, and smelling Elf straight from the bottle is very evocative. It's exactly like I imagined it, and it's very summery!

Wet, it's very much woods and moss but the sweetness which I'm guessing is the berries + honeycomb comes through more. When it dries the forest backs off a lot and leaves only the berries + beeswax + musk with a hint of woods.

I like it in the dry phase but I don't think it's quite there yet as far as elves are concerned. I'm happy I bought a whole bottle though, because this works wonderfully layered with Ranger, for a less playful and more evocative scent.

Now, I would love a more serious scent that captures the magic and culture of the elves without screaming "tricksy little elves hiding in the forest eating berries", but I'll keep looking!

  6. I've been reticent to skin test my imp because it smells a bit... plain? I can't really make out any notes from the imp, but I dabbed it on today either way and WOW. This goes from understated to sexy as hell really fast!

This is exactly what Thomas would smell like, it's a fougere, but not as sweet and decadent as Dorian, instead it's a bit colder, which makes Thomas seem a lot more distant. The lavender blends so well with the amber, and it all smells very cohesive. I don't know where the sexiness comes from but I love it and I want my boyfriend to smell like this. Or you know, to alternate between this and Alan bc he smells great too!

  7. Oooh, I love the suggestion for Katara actually, I think it would fit her really well. And Sokka should smell like beef jerky too! So something with fur/leather/beef jerky note? And Momo totally smells like Tweedledum in my head!

As for Aang, something along the lines of Tristran I guess, I like the thought of Coraline for him as well but maybe it's a bit too "clean"

  8. On the bottle Ava smells very sweet, inoffensive and floral. When applied on the skin and wet I caught a whiff of a really heady tuberose, but fortunately it dried down beautifully. It's sweet and floral and a bit sexy but it's not cloying or too girly I think. I'll cherish my bottle!

  9. Whoa these reviews are so conflicted. I get no pencil shavings or plastic, just a fresh, earthy soil smell with maybe a bit of wood in the background. This is so, so comforting. I haven't tried any of the other GC dirt scents so I might have to give them a try if they're half as good as Mandrake!

  10. Very fruity and floral, and as the hours pass it becomes more and more powdery. It's very dark and mysterious without being overpowering, and the roses come out more on the dry down, I quite like it. As someone said above, this has a very vintage feel.

  11. Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind: pearlescent vanilla musk with white sandalwood, grey amber, white patchouli, ambrette seed, and oudh.

On the bottle Edith smells straight up like Eat Me, with the sweet foodie vanilla with some salty/caramel/nutty note?

It's really amazing because she changes sooooo much once she dries down, I wouldn't even say it's the same perfume! Dry, Edith becomes a lot more sophisticated. I can catch whiffs of vanilla at a distance but up close I get the drier notes, the oudh, sandalwood and the white patchouli. It's overall very smooth and pleasant and feminine. I am so sad she's sold out because I really wish I could hoard this. :cry2:

    -edit-

okay, I know what this reminds me of!!! Fahrenheit by Dior! It's one of the few mainstream perfumes I love and this smells like the more womanly version of it. My guess is that's the patchouli and sandalwood combined with the sweetness + woodiness. anyway, I love this <3

  12. Wet, this smells very similar to RPG Good, but if you swapped the other florals for white rose. It's very sweet with a hint of greenness which I really like. The rose comes out a bit more during dry down but it's really creamy and sweet and not cloying at all.

It's such a pretty scent, I can imagine myself wearing this a lot when spring comes.

  13. In the bottle this has a very in your face champagne smell. It's not unpleasant at all, but I can't distinguish any other notes at this point, and it's a lot more green and fresh than I expected.

On the skin as it dries down the champagne fades and I can start smelling the vanilla+opium, and I really, really like it. Doesn't have a lot of throw but the sweet smoky vanilla lasts quite a bit on the skin!

  14. This is very evocative and probably one of the creepiest scents I've ever tried from bpal. On the bottle it's an overwhelming leather scent with a SCREETCH of the ghostly chill note that makes me feel sort of uneasy about this. Once it dries down, it's not so much that it changes, but i can begin to smell both the ink and the paper a bit more. On me it has a huge throw, I can smell it with my wrist completely away from me even when dry.

This is sort of perfect, actually, once it dries down. It smells exactly like a creepy, newly written manuscript. I'm going to try to layer it with Edith once she arrives, because as a reviewer said before, this seems like the perfect Edith scent.

  15. I don't know why, but it really reminds me of Antikythera Mechanism HG, maybe it's the boozy sweetness + wood notes? Anyway, I really enjoy it, it's a stay-at-home comfort scent, that I think I will mostly wear during the colder months.

  16. I just received this from a lovely swapper and I have to post this review right now because this is one of the most ~me~ scents I've ever smelled. It's so lovely when you get a strong emotional (positive) response from a perfume and I nearly teared up smelling this for the first time.

It reminds me of a pagan folk festival I go to during the summer and it's so, so beautiful. I smell fresh green grass with verbena at first, and then follows the golden, comforting amber and the smallest hint of summer rain. But when I think about the scent overall, it's just a perfect, fresh northern summer captured in a bottle <3

I'll return later to review the dry down.

    -edit-

ok, I need a big bottle. It still smells beautifully clean and crisp, but both the grass and the amber begin getting stronger (than the verbena, which is still there, just not as overpowering). The amber really rounds this out and makes it warmer and more comforting. Lovely dry down.

  17. It's a very beautiful, well blended, smooth perfume. Out of all the Crimson Peaks I've tried so far this is the most elegant. I get rose first, but as it dries out it becomes more rounded and musky with the sweetness of the vanilla. I absolutely love it and I'm glad I got a blind bottle of this.

I have a ball coming up this summer and while I do not have a dress yet, I've already decided this will be my chosen scent.

  18. I wanted to love it but I really didn't :( I mean, it's a good perfume, and unlike anything I had ever smelled but it wasn't -amazing-

It smells a bit heavy and cloying for a fresh scent, and I was expecting more florals from previous reviews. Oh well.

  19. Good

I love Good, and it's quickly become one of my everyday scents, just because of it's simplicity and freshness. I smell mostly honey with some flowers hanging out in the background, nothing too cloying or too sweet.

When I want to make it a little bit less sweet or more complex, I love layering it with Ranger. Apparently good rangers smell really nice!

  20. Bottle: Aged, 2013

MC has the cutest bottle art, I'm absolutely in love with it <33 as for the scent, I just have to mention that i'm an AVID salted popcorn eater, I hate the sweet kind, and this smells just like beautiful, buttered, salted popcorn <3 ughhh it's so yummy. There's obviously a lot of sugar on top as well which makes it more wearable I guess, and also a lot more delicious.

I really don't care if I smell like a movie theatre, I'm wearing this out. :wub3:

  21. Ranger

The first time I opened this imp it was all pine, but the natural kind of pine that you'd expect when strolling through a forest, so it's really pleasant.

As it dries down some of the other tree/wood scents come out, but overall it stays pretty close to it's wet stage.

    Bit bottle worthy! <3
