How do YOU layer with single notes?

When I layer with single notes Generally I am trying to enhance something already in the blend (not necessarily a specific note, could just be its fruitiness or something). For example I will use Black Pomegranate SN to Mme Moriarty to enhance the deep red fruitiness or Vanilla Orchid SN to Zorya Polunochnaya to add another layer of ethereal white floral. Another one I like is Snake Oil and Bulgarian Tobacco SN, even though I don't think there is tobacco in SO, it adds to that deep syrupy warm vibe it has. Though sometimes I layer to add a whole new element to a scent like Black Pomegranate with Haunted

    An Encampment of Shepherds

Normally I'm not drawn to dirt/earthy scents but the clay in here is very gentle and pretty. The rose tobacco smells like a strong dried rose with just a bit of cologne-y tobacco underneath.

Jupiter Nourished by the Goat Amalthea

I got some delicious honeyed, buttery goat milk and then plastic-y bubblegum? Chemistry fail!

    Pumpkin Tobacco

Mmm definitely sweeter than the atmosphere spray, and with no spice. Just buttery pumpkin and chewy tobacco.

    Moscow

When I first applied I got a blast of fresh floral that I thought was hyacinth but looking at the notes must have been the citrus combining with the jasmine and lily. As it settles the headiness of the jasmine becomes more apparent, and the spiciness of the carnation and green and pollen of the lily come out. The only floral I can't find is the rose. I'm having a hard time picking out the amber and musk, but it must just be part of the perfuminess. The bergamot and tangerine are beautiful bright elements, smells like a sunny spring garden walk.

    Sign of Sekkusu Hair Gloss

Really rich, syrupy vanilla tobacco. I think all the resins contribute to this thick dark feeling. Cozy.

    Three Couples Hair Gloss

Really gorgeous softly fruity blend. The sandalwood-vanilla combo dominates and the fig just floats around it.

    Red Phoenix

My nose hated this on the wand, it was really sharp and musty at the same time. On the skin it gets better, and I start to recognize some notes. Patch and tobacco give an earthy base and the red musk and plum are sultry and fruity, but time has really smoothed them over. Not very sweet, surprising given the tonka and benzoin. Something about this is still not agreeing with my skin, staying quite sharp.

    Manhattan

Starts off with citrus and tea primarily, zesty and fresh. Deepens as it dries, definitely get amber and the sleek teakwood, adding warmth and depth and if I sniff deeply I get some humid orchid and light mint, which is coming off more crisp and green than menthol. This is really pretty and reminds me of really good commercial perfume, would be a good gateway scent for people new to indie perfume.

Western Small Foot Bat Hair Gloss

Sweet pink rose, and I want to say lotus as well. There is a very sweet, waxy floral note next to the rose. Underneath I get warm amber and soft sweet patchouli, but these just pass a gentle glow onto the sweet pink rose. Like @LiberAmoris said, sun-sweetened.

    Bonfire Toffee

Really delicious buttery toffee. The caramel has a lot of depth, not too sweet at all. I get just a touch of spice.

    Old Scratch

Such a smooth beautiful blend. Softly sweet, smooth, decadent woods and a bit of musk. Everything is very well blended, I can barely pull out the rosewood and lavender.

    Loup Garou

Pine and eucalyptus, dark green and icy. Sweet in an herbal way.

    California Leaf-Nosed Bat

This is one of the most unique scents I have ever tried. The most true to life non-foresty outdoorsy scent I've encountered. Dry desert brush, a touch sweet, a touch green, a touch smoky. Sort of herbal.

Inside the Golden Amber of Her Eyeballs

Fresh zingy green dominates this scent, I just get the tiniest bit of warm myrrh and amber underneath.

    A Certain Nameless Awe

Very dry, and salty. But also smells like fog. A very grey, vague scent. Smells like rain hitting hot pavement.

    Western Bonneted Bat

The super sweet super buttery butterscotch seemed like it would be a little too intense on my skin at first, but then it gave way to a a beautiful caramelized tobacco with just a hint of butteriness.

    Chocolate + Pickles

I wasn't expecting to get any of the vanilla buttercream with how rich and fudgey this is in the bottle! But they balance quite well on my skin, I get the vanilla quite strongly under the chocolate which lightens up from fudge to more a chocolate buttercream. Delicious.

Don’t Tell Me Heaven is Under the Earth

Unf golden sweet patchouli, the smooth sweet patch I love. No stale cardboard in sight. This smells like the dusky golden light of a satisfying sunset.

    Lilith Nightingale

This smells like a soft creamy rootbeer on me. For some reason the spices are going sarsaparilla on me, but I take no issue. Absolutely lovely!

    Abolish ICE

I get syrupy rum in the initial application with some spices making me momentarily think of Spiced Rum Buttercream Coffee scent. Then it is sweet caramel and spices and vetiver? Smoky vetiver and I get a bit of the gnarly patchouli that has been leaning stale cardboard on me. This isn't looking good folks. Eventually the smokiness and patch back and the spiced toffee coffee becomes more apparent. This is an edgy spiced coffee on me. I will see how it works on my guy.

    Ghost Faced Bat

This reminds me a great deal of Obatala, the coconut meat seems to be similar smooth and natural, it is other notes that make it a great deal sweeter. The honey is most distinct to me, and the blend pushes more gourmand as it dries.

    The White Chamber Atmosphere Spray

Initially the lily and cedarwood combine rather sharply, but luckily they are quickly smoothed out by the other notes. Fresh yet powdery, and grounded by the woods this makes me think of a Georgian parlor.

    The Blue Chamber Atmosphere Spray

Mmm the blueberry is just beautiful in this, I would describe it as dried as it isn't in your face juicy or jammy. I think its sweetness is balanced by the tartness of the blackcurrant, and the flowers and musk round out the scent beautifully. Very fresh and happy.

Let Your Indulgence Set Me Free

Gorgeous sugary floral blend. While I get distinct lily and rose here and there the sweet pea, carnation, and peony are strongest on me. It ends up like High Strung Daisies with sweet pea and peony on me.
