    Catherine

I've always been fond of green scents and Catherine smells just divine in the bottle and wet on my skin. The rosemary somehow doesn't smell like rosemary, I guess because of the other components in the blend, it's a much softer green smell to my nose. After a while, the rose and orange blossom become more apparent and this ends up smelling like Seraglio (without the almond) and Jezebel (without the honey). Since those are two of my favorite scents, no wonder I love Catherine, too

    Black Annis

Hee hee, I was scared to try Black Annis, too . The cave lichen and civet didn't really appeal to me, but the lab gifted me with an imp of this so I had to try it. Well, what do you know, it's surprisingly pretty . At first, it reminds me of India Bouquet (without the initial curry smell), that must be the anise. I get a nice powdery smell underneath with a tiny touch of earthyness. Later on the earthiness gets a bit too strong for me but I'll bet it would be terrific on a guy. The civet is really mild, no cat pee odor for me, it's just kind of sexy.

    R'lyeh

I don't do well with aquatic scents so not suprisingly, R'lyeh didn't work for me. I do get the grapefruit note through all phases but there is a weird, plasticy thing going on with the rest of the notes. My skin always does this with aquatics so it's not the fault of the oil I just love the inspiration behind this scent and hope Beth comes out with some more in the series, hopefully on dry ground

    Dublin

Oh, I really can't believe how pretty Dublin is! It's definitely striking me as a Yule scent right now, but I can see loving it year-round. I'm getting the softest waft of evergreen notes, not at all Pinesol, you have to try it to understand how gentle the forrest feel is. My nose can't pick out the rose separately at all but I'm sure it's what is making this blend so unusual. Definitely a walk through a hushed forrest on a snowy day kind of feel to it

    Wolf's Heart

The lab gifted me with an imp of this in my last order, thank you This reminds me a lot of both Red Devil and Queen, two other voodoo oils, although its effect is quite different. It seems to have dragon's blood, which I love. It also has that soft herbal note that is in many of the voodoo oils. It's a very grounding scent, makes me feel very peaceful and calm.

    Sugar Skull

I finally got my Sugar Skull Wow, I think the reviews for this are the most consistent I have ever seen, seems like everyone is getting the same notes from this (whether they like them or not ). Wet, I get maple syrup and in the first few minutes of drydown, I also get a flash of the sugared fruits. Then it's all hot brown sugar, just like Beth said And it's STRONG, a little goes a long way. Also hard to wash off Another Beth masterpiece

    Dia de los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos is another chocolate-tobacco scent that hasn't really worked for me. I don't know why, I love those notes, but both this and Kali just didn't bloom on my skin the way they seem to have done on others. I don't know if it's the chocolate and tobacco notes, or the florals, but this never blends smoothly on me, it's a cacophony of discordant notes. I find it a little unsettling

    Samhain

Samhain smells absolutely delicious in the bottle, it has a kind of buttery pumpkin smell. Initially, when wet on my skin, the black patchouli is a little bit scary, almost the aroma of BO but that dissipates quickly and Samhain then matches its description perfectly. I get all the notes - pumpkin, apple cider, fir needles, woodsmoke, it's delectable. I am kind of fruit-phobic but the apples in this are just an accent, not overwhelming like they were for me in The Hesperides. This definitely lives up to its reputation!

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

There's no problem with spillage Chupa? These look great and I'm thinking of ordering some, I just want to make sure they'll fit the bottles okay both in the box and when I travel on occasion <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i second this inquiry. i recently got my first set of 5mls and the reducers are driving me mad. i don't want one of those dropper caps either - i want a wand similar to the imp caps. are they leaky? hee. we're so needy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry I didn't see your questions earlier The caps with the wands that I pointed to in the link fit perfectly, the bottles don't leak. But if you are a klutz, you could knock the bottles over while you have the cap off, so I guess you should stick with the orifice reducers. I like not having them because I have to take them out anyway if I am decanting. And so far, I haven't had any mishaps but I am very careful with the open bottle!

    Three Witches

I wasn't expecting anything quite this sweet with Three Witches. It smells exactly like the Reed Cinnamon candies my grandfather used to carry around in his pocket. Nice, but doesn't appeal to me as a perfume, it's kind of a potpourri smell, like you are walking through a craft store.

    Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo

Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo sure is a happy scent Wet, it smells just like Juicy Fruit gum to me. As it dries, I get that cotton candy scent others have mentioned, it's really nice. Unfortunately, the fruits come back and fruits don't play well with my skin. They kept getting stronger and sweeter until I had to wash this off So I'll be swapping this one.

    Perversion

I've used up most of an imp trying to get myself to love Perversion, but I just can't I love Hellfire and people were saying this was the more feminine version of it. I guess it is but for some reason the leather note is strongest on me and it kind of drowns out the other notes I love. I mean, I can tell they are in there, but they are too subtle compared to the leather. I, too, am holding out for Black Pearl, hope it's

    Decadence

I got Decadence in a swap from Penance Oh my, I really thought I was going to love this when I first put it on. I love almond and I got that cherry cola burst right away that let me know there was almond in this. Soon I got dragon's blood resin, it was a lovely combination. But then some odd note appeared, I'm wondering if there is red musk in this? Anyway, it's something that makes other blends go iffy on me or maybe it's just the combination of other notes that isn't working for me. Later on I got orange, but still that funky note. It's not really bad but enough to keep me from wanting to reach for a scent. So I'm swapping it

    Malice

Malice smells very "perfumey" to me, it's probably the ylang ylang. It has lots of wafting power, lasts a good long time and I love the myrrh. Still, for me, it's just not that interesting so I will be swapping it. I had hoped to find more clove and patchouli in it.

    Masquerade

I was really expecting to love Masquerade because I love all the notes in it. It smells wonderful when first applied, I can smell the ambergris and patchouli right away. After about ten minutes, the spicy carnation appears and I'm still loving it. But then the mask comes off and there underneath is a whomping big orange that just blasts everything else away Wow, it's just strong orange after that, ends up smelling like Ravenous. I wish the first stages had stayed around a lot longer, they were much more interesting.

    Mars

Hmm, all I get from Mars is dragon's blood resin, I really can't detect anything else in it. It's nice but not all that interesting to me
  17. Hello again! I know you have Tombstone coming, a little birdie told me If you like that, also try Golden Priapus. It is even more woodsy and it's a golden wood smell, like southern yellow pine.

    Scents with almonds?

I just thought of another oil you should avoid if you don't like almonds. I really hate to even mention it because to me, it's one of the most beautiful BPALs ever, but Snow While smells a little almondy to me. But really, if it ever comes back, you should order it anyway, it's just the tiniest hint of almond and you could sell or swap it in a hearbeat. Probably to me And congratulations on your exam!
  19. You might want to try French Creole before it's gone, it's very strong on the clove at first, then some nutmeg comes out. Have you tried Hellfire yet? It doesn't have clove but it has that smoky, boozy, just a touch of leather thing going on that you might like. If you layered it with the clove bud single note, it might be perfect. It's a lot stronger than Perversion, though.

    Jezebel

Biblical witch, priestess of Astarte, and general troublemaker. A true role model for today’s upwardly mobile Modern Woman. A gloriously decadent blend of honey, roses, orange blossom and sandalwood. Jezebel is just GORGEOUS! I'm crazy about honey and the honey note in this is nice and strong. I took forever to try this one because I was worried about the rose going sharp or the sandalwood making it too dry, but everything in this blend works beautifully. I get mostly honeyed orange initially, but after about 10 minutes just a little rose comes through to stop it from being too juicy fruity. The sandalwood doesn't come into play until about 2 hours into the drydown and it's very soft, not raspy like it usually is on me. This actually reminds me a lot of Seraglio (without the almond) and it's going to be hard to decide between the two. Almonds or honey? Meh, I'm going to need both.

I need help picking out some Lotus scents!

I'm pretty good at sniffing out lotus since I found out I HATE it Yup, Muse has killer lotus in it after a few minutes. I thought I was going to love it with the lime and jasmine, but the lotus killed it for me. You HAVE to try Forbidden Fruit, that was almost totally lotus on me And even though I now suspect lotus ruined Old Kathmandu for me, I agree with everyone else, it's too dry and spicy for your tastes. Have you gotten any of your cotton candy scents yet and if so, how do you like them?

    Roadhouse

I just got some Roadhouse in a swap today. From the imp, I got a strong whiff of beer but that disappeared as soon as the oil hit my skin. Then I was trying to sense the smell of a bar, with booze and tobacco, but what came to mind for me was an ice skating rink I went skating a lot as a kid and this was the smell I remember sitting on the benches lacing up my skates - kind of damp indoor-outdoor carpeting, the chill coming off the ice, the soda and candy smell of little kids. I think I picked up the tiniest hint of apple, but that may have been the dandelions. It settled into a very pretty, soft perfume, I never got any tobacco from this. I'll probably swap this since it's not something I'll use very often but it sure was fun to try it.

    Follow Me Boy

Weird, I'm not getting any lemon from Follow Me Boy, as so many others have. I get a very soft jasmine at first, then it seems to change to rose, a rose dipped in powdered sugar. It's really yummy smelling After about half an hour, it gets a little bit greener and after an hour the florals recede into the background and I get the aroma of softly spiced cake. This was a freebie from Beth&Co, thank you for letting me try it, I really love it

    Jack

I just got Jack II today in an order and it's wonderful Right out of the vial, I get a burst of caramel popcorn, just like Gluttony, but it quickly settles and the pumpkin, peach and spices come out. I was a little worried about the peach since fruits usually get too fruity on me, but in Jack, it just lends the right kind of sweetness so the pumpkin doesn't smell raw. I can actually smell the pumpkin and peach separately for a little while, but then everything blends together and I get that same pumpkin cookie aroma others have mentioned. It's the perfect autumn scent

    Bruja

Bruja somehow just doesn't work on me. I don't really smell lilacs, nothing sweet, just a bitter herbal note for a long time. After a couple of hours the myrrh and amber do their usual thing on me and this ends up smelling lovely, but it's not worth the first couple of hours where I feel vaguely uncomfortable in it. Off to swaps. ADDED Dec. 8: Nope, Bruja didn't work on me. I was expecting to really like it since lilac seems fairly innocuous and both amber and myrrh are usually wonderful. But in this blend, on my skin, the notes just seem to clash. I detect a very bitter herb in it, almost like vetiver, although that's not one of the listed notes.
