    Pumpkin Queen

I detest Jack but thankfully this smells nothing like it on me. Really it smells like a pumpkin-laced version of Gingerbread Poppet - warm and cozy and rich, the perfume version of a roaring fire on a rainy night. After half an hour, it does turn a tad buttery and the spices go muted. But it's still pretty gorgeous. Glad I got it.

    Les Bijoux

This is pretty enough, a distillation of apples and roses with a hint of peach, but I get that same commercial air freshener association. The anticipated softness of the honey just doesn't come through as hoped.

    Eat Me

I don't get any of the currants in this, nor do I get Snake Charmer. This is straight-up Snake Oil drizzled over vanilla cake. It doesn't morph at all, just goes on, stays pure with a nice modest amount of throw then lingers. I love it. Snake Oil and O both eventually wore out their charms on me, and this is quickly seizing their throne.

    The Brides of Dracula

Not at all what I expected but still quite nice. All I get is lily, musk and sandalwood with what I would think was violet but is probably the plum blossom. It's a chilly pale blue scent, very feminine and haunting but without much substance. It reminds me more of a delicate phantom than a vampire. I agree that this smells expensive and it's versatile as well - I would wear this as a light day scent and as a sophisticated evening scent. Normally I am not a florals girl but this is pretty and flowery without overkill.

    Cockaigne

The description of this was so beautiful - the actual scent bears little resemblence. On me this smells like sour wine or bad cider... no cakes or honey here. Likely it's just my chemistry and I think this would make a lovely house scent so I'll use it for that.

    Lyonesse

I had a very different reaction to it than most described here - on me this is almost pure lily and musk, with maybe just a breath of vanilla. Quite powdery and a little old-fashioned. It smells much like some perfume that was popular in the 80's, I can't think of the name. Anyhow I was quite to disappointed that the amber and sandalwood, my favorite notes, were MIA. This is pretty but not really my thing... I'll use up the imp but that's it for me and Lyonesse.

    Mouse's Long and Sad Tale

I am not a fan of Bath and Body, but they did produce an amber scent long ago that I loved - and this is a dead ringer for that scent. I love amber, love sandalwood, can handle vanilla in conjunction with other scents, and this is one of those blends that feels as if it were custom-designed for me. This is to die for. I can see where it would be too powdery or sweet for some chemistries but on me it's a delicious warm golden amber lightly laced with vanilla. This to me is like O's innocent virginal little sister.

    Dia de los Muertos

The '04 DDLM was one of my top 3 all-time BPAL blends - '05 didn't work on me at all and I was hoping that this one, '06, would be more like '04. And miracle of miracles, it is! This is dead-on what I recall of my long-ago bottle: sweet honey and chocolate and the solemnity of autumn winds and dry leaves and smoke. Good Goddess I love this blend so much. I am so thrilled to have it back that I am ordering a back-up bottle. Definitely worth the wait!!!

    Glamour

This is very pink and feminine on me, reminiscent of the Venus oil. It's not my cup of tea in terms of perfume (I'm not a rose fan and this is JUST like tea roses as others have said) but the scent is pleasant enough to work with. In terms of results... this doesn't seem to have a direct effect on me the way Queen of the Nile does. What it does undoubtedly do is expedite my link to Venus (the goddess, not the oil!) when I work with her. This oil is almost like an offering to her and an invocation at the same time. So in a roundabout way it does deliver the goods but not as directly as I wanted.

    Sexual Energy

This did not work on me at all like I thought I would. I have a pretty strong libido and wasn't really looking to enhance it per se, but rather for something to intensify my existing actual encounters. Unfortunately just the opposite happened; where wearing this doesn't seem to affect the actual sex I have, it has made me even lustier. Yikes. Scent-wise it's pleasant enough - the cinnamon everyone else is getting is quite muted on me, and instead I get a concentrated aroma of clove, pepper and what I could swear is patchouli. It smells better on my male friend than on me, so I'm just using it to dress candles, anoint my bed, etc.

    Baron Samedi

This went on wet smelling like cherry and almonds - much like Jergen's lotion as a matter of fact. That's not a smear, I like the scent of Jergen's. But after only 5 minutes it turned earthy and boozy. I could smell patchouli, tobacco and a faint note, quite pleasant, of an expensive bottle - maybe Southern Comfort, but definitely not rum. Ultimately it settled into a well-balanced blend of almond, earth and good booze: the comforting scent of a smoke shop, very masculine and solid and clean. I really like this, it's like wearing the flannel shirt or bathrobe of a beloved grandfather.

    Silk Road

This reminds me of an aquatic mix of Old Morocco and the Lion. I get the spices and the heat and yet there's a watery note to this too. My overall impression is of walking into a Middle Eastern tea shop -- but as this wears on, a melancholy note comes through that's quite persistent.

    Sundew

At first whiff I was hit with a powerful memory: this dept. store perfume called "Sunflower" that my mother got me one Christmas. I couldn't stand it and while this is much nicer, that memory is staining my Sundew experience. This is pretty enough and reminds me of spring-cleaning with the windows open; to me this smells like a lemon floral. But something about it, probably my bad Sunflower experience, just won't let me enjoy it.

    Shadow Witch Orchid

Everyone else has described this so nicely I haven't much to add. It smells old-fashioned and flowery to me, something an old movie star would wear with lavender satin... like Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. Honestly for all its prettiness, this creeps me out. It's like something from a long-lost era.

    Monster Bait: Underbed

I had such high hopes for this! Unfortunately it's much yummier in the bottle than on me. I can smell the cassia and the cake - though no cocoa or coconut - for just a while and then it devolves into a dark generic baked goods smell that isn't all that special or interesting. However in the interest of fairness, I'm a little burnt on all of my foody scents lately such as Sugar Cookie and Gingerbread. This is nice but nothing I need to buy twice. I accidentally tossed half the bottle over my bedroom carpet and so far it's better off scenting my boudoir than me.

    Osun

This begins as a mix of honey and ocean - sort of an aquatic version of O. I was quite enthralled for about an hour and a half, it was my new favorite BPAL; and then alas, it went powdery. I totally get the drawer of old makeup smell too. But even that I'm kind of liking. I'll wear this a few more times besides deciding on a big bottle but right now it's my favorite of the order.

    Black Opal

Lovely, but cloying. It smells like a sweet, thick haze of vanilla, white musk and baby powder - it's funny this is called Black anything, because it's such a pale scent to me. I like it but it's only wearable sporadically; otherwise it's overwhelming.
  18. Nepthys

    White Light

Scent-wise, this is cool and spicy - I get the cinnamon and a violet-white floral but there's something else there that reverberates like the perfume version of Hot Rocks. Anyhow, it's gorgeous. One sniff and I was swooning. Effect-wise, I have only worn this as a general mood-lifter and not directed its intent. So far I have noticed that my thoughts are more positive and my emotions more centered and tranquil. I also tend to focus more and do what I have to do. In comparison to Anthelion, I'd say Anthelion brightened my feelings more where this brightened my thoughts. In fact, I didn't realize how negative and scattered I've been until I started relying on these. But with them I've been undeniably more productive, positive and balanced. I've tried 6 of the TAL's so far and I would say these two (Anthelion and White Light) are perfect for someone who wants a positive-intention, nice-smelling booster oil to wear but doesn't want to get into ritual work.

    Queen of the Nile

I'm going to have a hard time describing the scent of this in actual notes - though I can says it smells fabulously mysterious, seductive and smoky. I'm guessing there are notes of almond and myrrh in it, but other than that I can only say it smells like a cousin of Snake Oil. But with less sweetness and more spice. In terms of effect: yeah, this is the stuff. It's powerful and immediate and not only with strangers. In the last week I've had two highly platonic associates (including my boss) get very interested in me and express it openly. The attention has been uncomfortable enough that I would recommend using this with caution. That was just wearing a drop as perfume; after using it in ritual two nights ago, I did get hit on quite a lot at Gay Pride this weekend and yet only from men (?) and not women. My coven will be using this in a major love working this coming Friday night so I'll be interested to see what results come our way. In conclusion: if you're looking for an oil that not only amps your allure but creates actual interaction with your crushes, get this.

    Temple of the Horned God

At first sniff this rang a bell in my memory - it reminds me a bit of Black Forest. Which isn't a surprise because this smells piney and earthy and dark green. But beyond the earth/woods evocation, there's a scent of old magic, lust and masculine power - and to me there's a protectiveness there too, particularly of animals and nature: the Horned God as Lord of the Beasts. This is the perfect scent for a Cernunnos or Pan ritual. I actually would wear this as perfume just to feel connected to him throughout the day (albeit lightly) because the rush this oil gives me is inspiring and wild.

    Anthelion

I was expecting an icy scent but this doesn't smell cool or calming at all to me. I get cinnamon and lavender with - is it eucalyptus? - in the background. The energy I get from this is warm and empowering, like I've just been given an incredibly effective pep talk. My confidence is quite boosted with this. I haven't focused much with this, other than a quick candle alignment, so I'll update after I've worked ritually with this. But so far I have noticed a change in my general levels of faith and optimism and that leads me to expect good things from this oil. ETA: I've been wearing this regularly and used it ritually beginning with the new moon. And I've noticed a marked change in my mentality, namely that I am suddenly possessed of clarity and focus, and have been making practical valuable changes in my life and business that I've been either ignoring or procrastinating on. It's like all my irritating excuses and daydreams have been burned off like fog and I'm now this calm, focused, accomplishing machine. Not what I was expecting from this but it is exactly what I needed!!

    Red Lantern

Exactly what I hoped for, but better. In the bottle it is this intoxicating exotic richness of spices and honey and amber and caramel and smoke... and it initially goes on me like that... And the caramel comes blazing to the top, seconded by what smells like patchouli. I guess that's the tobacco. It's over-the-top sweet, like that gooy caramel stuff you make at Halloween to dip apples in, and yet it's complicated and exotic. Maybe it's just the opium den association, but the scent really does remind me of that rich, langorous bliss you get smoking really good dope. Eventually it lightens and the amber comes back, with just a hint of coconut... and then it's just perfect.

    Al-Shairan

I get the dual identity on this - 1/2 is gorgeous, purring hot cinnamon and patchouli, and the other 1/2 accosts me with a screaming citrus cleanser. Al-Sharian, I hardly knew ye. Off to the living room oil burner it goes.

    Wings of Azrael

Ooo, I like this. This is green, wet and very kicky - a jungle scent. Sorry, I just don't associate this with Death! Instead I feel like I should be exploring Mayan ruins. This isn't pretty per se but it is very energizing so I'll keep it around my office for that reason.

    Versailles

Yes, this is gold and glittering. It visually evokes images of women I know who choke me with their clouds of perfume - and they often drip with gold jewelry. This is a potent, strident scent, one that is all rose and jasmine on me with just a smidgen of amber to save me from despising it completely. I can see where this would smell gorgeous on someone else (lightly applied - this is intense) but my chemistry just can't abide rose or jasmine. Which I really should have thought of before ordering.
