Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, & Vanilla Absolute

Ooo wow this is pretty. AL type vanilla with a tiny smidge of vanilla extract, soft sandalwood (not hippie-like), and a deep, almost tuberose-like ylang ylang in the bottle, not too indolic at all, that softens considerably and melds with the vanilla and a faint wiff of the sandalwood on drydown. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

    White Clover, Elderflower, and Apple

It's a nice fresh, apple plus greenery and light slightly powdery floral that goes just this side of plastic on my skin, just enough for destash. It is much more juicy yet crisp green apple in the bottle. I agree a bit like shampoo.

    13 (Thirteen October 2023)

In the bottle, deep rich cacao blorbs, so this does well with a good shake, with sweet pumpkin and deep wood notes and a slightly green high note. On the skin, much softer overall however this has a note, likely the myrrh or guiac, that goes sharp on me and that's about all I can smell surrounding the softness. It would be better in a locket, but now that I revisit the bottle, the sharp note is present beneath the cacao woodsy goodness. It has potential on the right skin but there are others in this vein that I like more.

    U Strip

This is interesting. It's rich coconut but more planty/natural than coconut cream or pie. The vetiver isn't too strong and doesn't smell like peanuts. It's an odd pairing but pleasant. Tropical but in a completely different way. Kind of like Lavanila Coconut but not as overtly coconut and more husky bits. Kinda duds out on me but has potential. Might be another locket contender. The vetiver reads more like No Man is an Island in the beginning, that sort of dark vegetal almost tobacco tonka vibe but doesn't stay as nice on me. I'll give it a few more tries I'm not giving up on it yet. *The next morning, I'm getting a lingering Pele like tropical floral. Very pretty.

    Pumpkin Gingerbread Creme Brulee Pie

Very sweet spicy gingerbread pumpkin in the bottle. I would say sugary but not in the usual way. I get the dry spice drydown that Little Bird got. I think this has potential, but might be better in a locket and isn't wowing me as far as gingbread scents go. However it's not smoky in any way. I think on the right skin it will be a lovely, richly sweetened pumpkin gingerbread blend.

    Marshmallow Snow 2023

Very Snow White and pine. The pine simmers down, so I'm left with Snow White wandering in a snowy evergreen forest. Magical. Previous year's reviews scared me off but this one due to it being a Snow White variant made this year'a a win for me!

    Midnight Mass 2023

Fresh in the bottle, it's strong, astringent resins. It's not smoky at all. This duds out on me, just smells vaguely resinous and clean.

    Blizzard

What the crap? I get no oud, no ash, no sandalwood, and no blizzard. I get a gorgeous vanilla tea and it's basically a more wearable Dorian for my skin chemistry. There are some background notes threatening to go weird, so it doesn't beat Madame Pearl completely for me, but dang this is pretty. Ok there's the ash, I have to hunt for it. I think if you like Dorian Suf or tea blends you're going to like this one a lot, it has far more throw in my opinion than DS. Next morning, ahh there's the white oud slightly, but oof, that gorgeous grey amber! It's not too indolic, just deep. Strong resemblance to Grey Columns at this stage. What a ride!

    Gingerbread Snek

Sharp patchouli with some syrupy bits early on. Dries down to dusty vaguely sweet dry spices but doesn't really read gingerbread to me. It's pretty good, but not what I was expecting, although I do have more interest in the molasses note now and think this will age beautifully.

    Hearth 2023

Dancingchair pretty much nailed this one. Hearth smells like sweet, dark cacao + tobacco, beeswax, and charred woodsmoke, and not much leather. I love it. Gender neutral, atmospheric and transporting, but wearable. It's comforting in a rugged kind of way. Wearing this, drinking tea, and listening to Last of The Mohicans and Rob Roy film scores listening to the birds chirping outside is a mood. Today is good, and Hearth made it good-good. Next morning: more or less the same but the leather comes out a ta more under the other rich notes. So beautiful.

    Snow Snake 2023

I agree, Snek and Snow White. Heavier on the patchouli in the bottle and upon application, then smooths out mostly. Plays pretty good on me. I might like Frostbitten SO a little better but will have to death match. A keeper for now!

The Hound and the White Milk Doe

Oh my gosh this is pretty. In the bottle, planty coconut with sandalwood and cardamom supporting. Glorious. Not too floral. Then a final drydown of Morocco, Eve type goodness (without the plastic/bandaid) with dry, warm, spices, keeping a nice depth, maybe a distant whiff of coconut trees spotted in the distance. Can be a little powdery but I like it here.

    A Melancholy of Goths

Heavy on the champaca incense for the most part, plus perfume, I agree, in a good way. Dries down to a pretty champaca plus hair salon vibe and reminds me of Sephora. A little bit of Ava vibes too. Awesome. I like this a lot.

    Elizabeth’s Imps

Oh my gosh yes. A bit too cloying gourmand cinnamon in the beginning, duds out for a while, then on final drydown? lovely cinnamon + beeswax candles and Ren Faire flashbacks.

    Snake Skin

At first, this is very strong patchouli heavy Snek with patent leather supporting and a bit of woods, like cedar. It is very similar to Batty Snake Oil initially. However, on final drydown Batty SO is more vanilla musk and soft leather, and Snake Skin has a fresh, almost (almost almost) sunscreen lotion skin musk vibe + leather and vanilla in comparison. I am wearing The Hound and the Milkwhite Doe on the other arm, and although that started with more coconut, it now doesn't have that same level of sunscreen vibe as Snake Skin. It is not like freshly applied sunscreen, more like after it has settled into your skin a bit throughout the day. My guess is the leather, vanilla, and the musks in SO are playing together to create that scent for me. A rough start but overall I really like the journey this takes me on. I like that it is more clean vanilla + leather now than overt patchouli.

    Batty Snake Oil

Upon application nearly identical to Snake Skin: patchy SO, almost woody, with stronk patent leather. Later this softens, and becomes more musky vanilla SO with a bit of leather. Oddly Snake Skin now smells a bit like sunscreen in comparison. It is quite different from the beginning stage, but I like it.

    Snooty Bat

Very sugary and vegetal patchouli + clove in the bottle and fresh on skin. Later the nag champa comes out more and smooths this out. It's a very nice incense blend for the most part now. The patchouli and sugar recede, and the leather is very slight and not artificial. Mostly dry powdered incense and a bit of clove. Very nice!

    Snootier Bat

Snootier Bat is strong, dark incense on me in the beginning, with a deep black murky musk, and the leather and sugar are not very present other than possibly being the notes taking this to a weird place that I'm not too sure I like. However, this does mellow over the course of the day, and there's a very strong resemblance to Blood Rose without the rose. It's possible dragon's blood resin is present along side a nag champa like note. Clean, yet dark incense. There is a resemblance to opium here too, sort of that rich, deep powdery but nice note, but more red black. This blend smooths out in final drydown even further and is now more black in hue than red, with not much sugar or leather. It's quite nice. Very BPAL.

    Invisible Man Milk

This is milky in a nontangy, creamy way, and also clean in a skin musk kind of way. However I also smell plastic and it stayed that way for hours. Hours later it has improved, but the plastic is still present.

    Port Royal

This is an old, old imp one where the white label has darkened to tan. And this still holds its own! Sometimes with older imps, in the vial, it will smell older, not as intense, but a skin test reveals it's true self after a while. Salty woods, with some spice. More woods than Mary Read, but in that vein. It does bring to mind an old salty inn where you clinkedy-clink your tankards with a bunch of ruffians. Very nice! Maybe a sandalwood in here, but I'm not sure. Not perfumey, very gender neutral.

    Slug

I get a sweet amber cream, lightly honeyed. Soft, elegant. Goes a bit plasticky on my skin now and then, but is otherwise really nice and is not plasticky later in the day. This will have to be a locket scent for me.

    Gingerbread London Fog

This is light on me too, and surprisingly, perfumey on the skin. In the imp, it is gingerbread and Fruit Loops.

    Gingerbread Milk

I get a ton of tangy goat milk and a bit of gingerbread. The goat milk seems to amp on me. Might be good for fans of Vampire Milk!

    Banana Gingerbread

Super banana, then gingerbread.. Then more like banana quickbread. Then fades and goes weird on me. It's a fun sweetened banana spice in the imp though. Could be good for Noisy Goose fans but it is quite different, more bready.

    Eldena Ruin

I'm surprised how light and powdery this is. It's a light green soft moss with some stoney bits. Something in this is papery, too. Something threatens to go sour and sharp, not quite getting there, but enough funk on my skin to go weird. This would be better as a room atmo for me, but YMMV, of course.
