  1. Anyone have anything similar for "The Gentleman" from Yule 2012?

(A dapper cologne, distant and refined: white musk, lime rind, and rosemary water with tobacco leaf and lilac.)

After a weird, unpleasant drydown, it turns into a delightful cologne, slightly sweet and herbal and almost candy citrusy. I'd like to recreate it or something similar without hunting it down.

I already have (and love) Whitechapel, but on me it's primarily powdery white musk. And Dorian and Jareth just turn into a sugary mess on me. No luck with Mr. Nancy either. Maybe Villain?

    Perhaps Lysander?

  2. I'll fish for suggestions too. My top scents:

    Half Elf v 5

    Bakeneko

    Fenris Wolf

    Tamamo no mae

    OLLA Ava

Notes I like include most florals except rose, most woods, red or blue musks, tea, stone fruit like apricot or cherry, vanilla, honey, resins and patchouli

Notes that ruin the blend are rose! although I keep trying, melon, cucumber, white musk, ozone, cumin, allspice (but I usually like cardamom and cinnamon), galbanum (unfortunately)

  3. In the mood for... my next order... :rolleyes2:

In the past I found myself quite enthusiastic about many scents but gradually I've noticed I was using only three of my many imps... I really like a few more but I don't see myself reaching for them...

    My three loved ones:

    Tombstone

    Hermia

    Dana O'Shee

    :wub2:

I like sweet, girly, soft and warm notes with a little foody undertone. A little bit of spice is always welcome (pink pepper, cinnamon...). Honey is ok to a certain point but can be very annoying.

I dislike Dragon's blood, incense, most florals, lemony scents, mint, dark musks, sandalwood...

Severe headache warning: rose, incense, labdanum

Tombstone: Golden Priapus, Deathcap, Antikythera mechanism, Aureus, the Lion, Bastet, Lear, Scales of Deprivation

Hermia: Some Strangeness in the Proportion (has sandalwood though) (sorry no GC recs that aren't floral), long shot suggestion= Jailbait, Black Pearl

Dana O'Shee: Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, O, Cockaigne, Lyonesse, La Petit Mort, Sed Non Satiata

  4. Alright, I have been combing through this thread for GC tobacco recommendations (very useful!), as well as looking at the 20 or so blends that come up on the main BPAL website. Bearing in mind my favorite BPAL of all times is Antikythera Mechanism and that I also have and like Black Rider and Dracul, which of these would you recommend if only one "allowed" to be purchased. (Sadly, Havana and Kali are "out of stock". Not sure if that means forever.)

    1. Perversion

    2. Interfector

    3. Ogun

    4. Elegbra

    5. Sarah, the Mother Bear

    6. Sherlock Holmes

    Thank you for your input!

Perversion is my favorite on your list. I'd recommend Hellfire though if the tobacco note is what you're after. If you are willing to hunt some limited edition bottles down, try Bachelor's Dog and Hearth, I've seen both for sale here on the forum in the Sales sections.

  5.

Lately I have been really loving woodsy or patchouli vanilla blends. Some favorites are yucca yucca giant skipper, fulvous snow, NAVA egpytian sandalwood and possests silver sandalwood. Any recommendations for BPALs? I tried BPTPs RR and it's perfect and can't wait til the lab version releases. A lady tall and white did not work at all. No vanilla on me. Thanks!

    Tombstone?

    Old Scratch?

    Belle Epoque?

Forgot to mention Crowley, Mr. Ibis, Bow & Crown of Conquest, Mouse Circus, Mouse's Long and Sad Tail, and Kubla Khan

  7. I am happy to report that Sanctus has prominent osmanthus note! I see the love for it and my skin loves it. I don't think it can be anything else, lily and frankincense don't smell this way. I must find more osmanthus!!!

  9. It could be that I received a decant from an unshaken or unrolled bottle or it could be my skin amps the holy heck out of all rose, (so please take my review with a grain of salt) but this is single note rose on me. Granted it is the lovely, not quite lemony but almost pure red rose I get from Whip, but I was anticipating some frankincense at least.

I'll retest to be sure and try to get a different decant but I am sad this lacked complexity on my skin. Granted, my skin ate the leather in Whip and amped the rose there too, so that is something to consider. YMMV of course. I'll edit if aging my decant helps but I am blaming my rose amping skin chemistry for this experiment gone wrong. I wanted to love this because the label is adorbs. I would have thunk to smell some honey or frankincense. I'm considering a bottle for layering purposes as is as it is quite difficult for me to find a rose that doesn't evoke soap association, granny tendencies or become sour on me. In essence, it may be that the notes are so well blended it is just a perfect rose from wet to dry down on me, with modest sillage (throw).

  10. Okay, King Cobra is the snake slithering with glorious frankincense. While not sugared per set, the snake oil sweetens it right up.

Another suggestion is Jacobs Ladder. Maybe frankincense just goes very sweet on me, but this one is very sweet incense.

One final parting suggestion. All you sugar lovers should stock up on Clive Barker Sweets to the Sweet. You can sugar up any scent you like by layering it with this. Its damn near perfect!

  11. (I did search the topics and could not find this one specific note. Sorry if this is redundant.)

The osmanthus are blooming , reminding me I long to smell like them! Here is a list of BPAL with osmanthus notes. Has anyone tried any of these, where the osmanthus is evident? I am guessing it might be over-powered by other components.

Fairy Bites (osmanthus first note mentioned)

    Belle Venu

    Brusque Violet

    Cordelia

    Flora

    Mokey

    Kali (presently OoS)

    Ouiji

    Sanctus

    The Ghost

    Luper 2015 Night Pavillion

Blacker than Raven Wings has it, but very light (beautiful oil!) (This s the only one I tried)

    Thank you!

Minh scent, not sure if its osmanthus but you should try Cordelia. Its gorgeous! I love my sleeper favorites of the GC.
