  1. Hot damn this is even better than I expected! :thud:

At first, yes this is a blast of vetiver, but that seems to calm down quite a bit quickly and out comes the black coconut (no sunscreen or foody coconut here!) and tonka, with a bit of the red sandalwood (which seems to work on me, unlike the white). The black currant is pretty much silent, which I am quite happy with.

Granted if you really really hate vetiver, this probably isn't for you, but still give it a shot if you get the chance. This is an incredibly sexy, smoky, somewhat evil smelling coconut blend. I have Tiki King and while I can see how they might be in the same family, this is quite different and I think I actually like this more. :wub2: In fact, I *love* this.

  2. THE TRAVELLER
    Oliver Goldsmith
Vain, very vain, my weary search to find
That bliss which only centres in the mind:
Why have I stray'd from pleasure and repose,
To seek a good each government bestows?
In every government, though terrors reign,
Though tyrant kings, or tyrant laws restrain,
How small, of all that human hearts endure,
That part which laws or kings can cause or cure!
Still to ourselves in every place consign'd,
Our own felicity we make or find:
With secret course, which no loud storms annoy,
Glides the smooth current of domestic joy.
The lifted axe, the agonizing wheel,
Luke's iron crown, and Damien's bed of steel,
To men remote from power but rarely known,
Leave reason, faith, and conscience, all our own.

A wanderer, poised at the point where three great countries meet, ruminating on government, nationalism, religion, and personal character: boot leather, pipe tobacco, and the dust of soft resins, herbs, and soil-flecked gravel picked on long, solitary travels.

Since Meliai turned masculine, I thought wth I'll try dh's Traveller also. LOL

    In the bottle: LEATHER!

Wet on the skin: Holy sh!t this has some throw. A little goes a looong way. It's still mostly leather, but this is one of the richest leather notes I've ever smelled. Honestly, it's just incredible and fits the description perfectly. Beneath the leather I can smell the herbs and tobacco and just a general feel of the outdoors. It's incredible and unlike anything I've smelled before.

Drying down: It just gets better and better. Everything just blends together more and becomes more complex. I am beginning to get a bit of the gravel now as well, I think.

This traveller is damn sexy. I will be slathering (well, maybe not slathering, it's quite strong) dh as soon as he walks in the door. It's easily one of my favorite oils that I've tried in a long time. It really does tell a story and paints a very vivid image.

  3. MELIAI
Sisters to the Erinyes and the Gigantes, the ash tree nymphs were also born from the union of the blood gushing from Ouranos’ castration wounds and Gaia’s fertile womb. These nymphs were the mother of the Bronze Race of mankind’s third age.

    Ash manna and ambrosial honey.

Wow, this is a lot greener than I was expecting. It a green tree scent almost pine-y but not quite and vaguely herbal. Luckily this isn't one of those green notes that goes soapy. It stays rich and lush smelling. The honey is more a background scent adding a bit of sweetness.
As it dries down the honey comes out just a touch more, but it is in no way strongly honey. It's not a super sweet syrupy honey, but more of an herbal, raw smelling honey. Oddly enough, I could've sworn there is leather in this. My chemistry must be really wonky today. I can't wait to see what others have to say.
This leans masculine, but it's strangely appealing. I'm thinking it might be more dh's speed though, unless the honey gets stronger with age.

    Very good throw.

Overall I like it though. :) I can't keep sniffing my arm.

ETA: It's been a couple hours now and it's calmed down quite a bit and the honey is a bit stronger. Still not very sweet, but more herbal and a bit less green now. A bit more unisex at this point. I have a feeling this will age nicely.

  4. Coconut is my absolute favorite note. :wub2:

Some of my favorite coconut blends are:

Ashlultum: Babylonian musk, vanilla tea, tonka, tobacco, coconut, hyssop, and lilac. The coconut in this isn't very strong on me, but it is there just enough to balance out the other notes. It's very pretty.

Death Adder: Snake Oil with vetiver, black coconut, vanilla, and opoponax. This is definitely a darker coconut scent. IMO it's in the same family as Tiki King.

Elegba: coconut, tobacco and sweet, sugared rum Love love love this! Very sexy and a great summer scent without being fruity.

Goblin: Black coconut, gnarly patchouli, and sweet benzoin This is another love of mine. it's not as dark smelling as it sounds, though it is a very earthy coconut smell.

Grog: Ok, so this doesn't list any notes, but I swear it has some coconut in it. This smells very festive to me and a a great year round scent.

Mlle Lilith, the Fortune Teller (mentioned in an above post): More pomegranate than coconut on me, but still very pretty and summery.

Pet Magah Bird (also mentioned in an above post): I actually like this a ton more than I expected to. Coconut-y and fruity. Another great summer scent.

Snake Charmer resurrected: Arabian musk and exotic spices slinking through Egyptian amber, enticing vanilla, and a serpentine blend of black plum, labdanum, ambrette, benzoin and black coconut. The coconut (on me) is more of a hint in this, but I had to mention it since It's one of my all time favorite scents. :wub2:

Spooky: A maddeningly festive blend of warm, buttery rum, cocoa, coconut, vanilla and a jolt of peppermint. It's a sweet, decadent, slightly silly scent, reminiscent of rum-laced holiday cookies. Some days this smells more like mint chocolate, other days it's much more on the coconut end. Love!

Tarot: The Star: Lime and Coconut, with a bit of a foody vibe to it. Sweet and smooth and very cheery.

Tiki King: This smells like a dark, woodsy coconut. Loooove this.

White Rose (bptp): White rose buds, with vanilla tea, benzoin, orris, coconut meat, and frankincense This is another one that's lighter on the coconut, but very pretty. :)

Creepy: this is the scent of butterscotch-kissed, caramel-smothered red apples spiked with a blast of coconut rum. Smells just like the description, very yummy!

Others I've tried but didn't work out:

White Chocolate, Marshmallow, and Coconut. Another one that smells just like it's description. The coconut note doesn't get beaten down by the others, but in the end it was too sweet for me.

Dia: Turned way too perfumey on me and would never have guessed there was coconut in it. So sad. :(

Obatala: Made me really really queasy every time I tried it. :ack:

Black Pearl: Coconut, Florentine iris, hazelnut and opalescent white musk. The white musk and iris killed this for me. :(

Antonino the Carny Talker: White musk, wild plum, vetiver, black coconut, verbena, fig, and lavender. Sadly, the white musk butchered all the other scents and scent it to straight cologne.

Velvet Tiki: Beautiful at first, but then took on a strangely dusty, stale smell. Maybe it was the orchid (I think that's it?). If that doesn't go wrong on you, definitely try it because it really is gorgeous at the beginning.

Blood Pearl: soft orris, blood musk, and coconut The orris killed this for me. :(

Upa Upa: Went straight to spice, no coconut. But then again, I amp spice.

And nothing from the Atomic Lounge worked on me. :(

I know I'm missing some, so I'll be back when I think of them.

  5. Oddly, this smells very clean and dirty (as in sleezy, not soil) both at the same times. For some reason when I smell this, it reminds me of The Most Interesting Man in the World (from the beer commercials). This is what I would imagine he smells like.

It's spicy and vaguely salty, with a hint of tobacco and booze, and a touch of cologne. I really like it, though I think it would be super sexy on my big man.

  6. Fit for the finest oblation -- and your holiday table, too! Sugar-sprinkled pepper nuts with a bit of cinnamon, a bit of clove, a little cardamom, and a hint of nutmeg.

I thought for sure this would be a giant fail on me due to the pepper nuts, but this is actually far nicer than I expected! The spice is quite wonderful since it's not straight up cinnamon (which I happen to love, but anyways), but more of a cardamom/nutmeg spice with the cinnamon and clove behind it. There is just enough sweetness to it to balance out all the spices and it helps to make it more wearable.
I am really surprised by how much I like it. It doesn't have much throw, which is fine since I normally wear scents like this for myself at home.

I think I might have to snag a bottle. :)

  7. I'm having such a hard time picking out the individual notes. At first it's a very bright and summery scent, but then it mellows a bit and I could swear this has green tea in it. It's very pretty, but reminds me a lot of a perfume or lotion I used to wear years ago.

This is the scent for someone who is scared by a lot of Bpal scents  and wants something a bit mainstream smelling, with a twist.

Beautiful, just not my kind of beautiful.

  8. So there is a store in the historic part of town that is all wood inside and sells, wood toys, herbs, spices, soaps, dried flowers, etc and whenever I walk in I take a deep breath because it smells so good. That is what this smells like, just with a touch of red musk thrown in.

It's a beautiful scent, just not something I can really see wearing as a perfume personally. I am so glad I got to try it thoough. :)

  9. I did not expect to like this since I thought it would end up smelling like a tree air freshener or cleaning product since that's what happens with most "forest" scents on me.

But it doesn't! Yay! it's mostly musk with a touch a rich greenery (but no soap or xmas tree!). There is a very slight cologne/perfume note, but it's not strong and actually is very nice.

I actually like this a lot more than I expected to. :) I probably won't need a bottle though since I'm trying to keep my collection a bit more under control, but I'll try it on dh first before deciding. I think this would be wonderful on him. ;)

  10. I had such high hopes for this one. :( It smells beautiful in the decant, but once it's on it takes on a perfumey edge I don't like (I'm guessing from the amber). It's so close to being pretty on me, but that perfumey note ruins it.

I'm so happy I got to try it though!

  11. Surprisingly, I think this is my favorite of the Yule blends so far. I've been having bad luck, so I wasn't holding out much hope for this one (esp. since it has plum, violet, and berry), but....I loooove it!!! At first it is a very juicy scent with the other notes hanging out behind it (which is fine, I love orange), but then the orange fades and I get this wonderful coconut violet blend (which sounds odd, but is actually very pretty). For a little while it's very subtle and then it really blossoms and I can begin to pick out the other notes, but it's all very well blended and balanced.

I will definitely be ordering a bottle for this spring/summer. :wub2:

  12. Chocolate plum musk, red musk, amaretto, candied fruits, and red ginger.

So I'm wondering if this is one of those scents where decants don't always work well if the bottle wasn't rolled enough first, because I get absolutely no chocolate from this at all. It's mostly red musk, plum, and the candied fruits.
It's actually quite pretty, just not really my style. I'm glad I tried it though!

  13. So sad. :( I was most looking forward to trying this one out of all my decants because I really really wanted mint. But no, it goes right to soap and some sort of strange linen smell. I can catch a tease of mint now and then, but that's it. I also get a medicinal note, which isn't bad.

It does have a cold feeling to it though, which fits. It's just not for me. :(

  14. Oooh, this is very nice! It's an interesting mix of sweetness (an pretty mix of some sort of fruit and light floral), saltiness, woods, and a hint of non-soapy green. It reminds me so much of something that I can't quite place, but it's definitely happy. :)

I normally hate florals, but whatever the note is smells just beautiful and lively. I'm not sure it's me since I normally prefer more incense/musk type blends (or coconut LOL), but if you like fresh, summery blends, you have to try this!

  15. Cacao, black musk, and tobacco absolute.

Oh my. This is GORGEOUS!!!! I was a little worried about the black musk because sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but there was no need to worry and it seems to be keeping the cocao from being too foody. There is a slightly sweet note which could be the tobacco and balances out the other notes nicely. It does go through a brief powdery phase, but that doesn't seem to last long.

This is a crazy sexy scent and I LOVE it. I wish I could do a better review but I can't keep my nose away from my wrist long enough. I will most certainly be getting multiple bottles since there is nothing like it in my stash.

Oh! I realized that this is more of what I wanted Boomslang to smell like, but that went horribly wrong on me. Thankfully, this doesn't!

  16. Wow, this is some scent. It mostlt leather and smoke, with a bit of sweetness in the background. This is definitely not a demure or delicate scent.

As it dries the leather calm down a bit and the vanilla comes out more and it's more balanced. On me, it reminds me of a female version of Sacrifice.

I really, really like this and need to get a bottle asap. :wub2:

  17. PAÍS DE LA CANELA
The legendary Valley of Cinnamon located east of Quito, deep in the Selva Amazónica. A thick tangle of deep green leaves, wild orchids, soft lichen, Patauá and Babassu palm spiced by the scent of deep, rich cinnamon.

I have no idea why, but at first this makes me smell like a christmas tree. But as it dries it's still green, but a different green than any other I've smelled so far. It's not soapy or sharp at all, it really is rich and deep and lush smelling. There is also a hint of creamy sweetness, though I'm not sure from what. And the cinnamon. :thud: This is such a perfect cinnamon. Most of the time cinnamon overwhelms and drowns out the other notes, but not here. It is actually behaving and really does smell more like actual cinnamon sticks or bark, not the red hots type of cinnamon. And thankfully the orchid is restrained, since it normally goes dusty on me.

I love this blend. It's beautiful and I can see wearing it all year round. I think this is going on my bottle list. :wub2:

  18. THE BLACK RIDER
As she stood there a third man on horseback came galloping up. His face was black, he was dressed all in black, and the horse he rode was coal-black. He galloped up to the gate of the hut and disappeared there as if he had sunk through the ground and at that moment the night came and the forest grew dark.

But it was not dark on the green lawn, for instantly the eyes of all the skulls on the wall were lighted up and shone till the place was as bright as day. When she saw this Vasilissa trembled so with fear that she could not run away.

Black leather, oppoponax, tobacco, and black amber.

Oh my. Ohhhhhh...this is wonderful! The leather is smoother than I expected and the amber is just GORGEOUS. Amber is usually iffy on me, but it's a darker, richer amber that doesn't go perfumey or powdery. There is also something slightly sweet, perhaps from the oppoponax? I'm not sure whether or not I'm picking up the tobacco, but there does seem to be something else here adding to the depth.

Overall, this is just an awesome blend, though not for the faint of heart. It's an empowering scent and somehow unisex. I really like this and can't wait to try it on dh. :)

  19. This is a very pretty, light, clean scent. Much different than I expected, but still pretty. It's somewhat dry and dusty, with a touch of sweetness.

It's not really something I would wear very often since it's a bit more perfumey than I generally like, but I'm still glad I got to try it.
