    Bonfire Night

In the bottle it's very smoky, woody, and a hint of the treacle. On... roasted chestnuts. Why it smells like roasting chestnuts, I have no idea, but that's *exactly* what it smells like to me. After an hour or so, the nuttiness goes away and I'm just left with a sweetish, smoky, musky scent. This one's really lovely, a perfect 'the weather's turning cold now' scent.

    Goblin

In the bottle: Patchouli, patchouli, patchouli... oh, hi there coconut Wet: Still patchouli, but the coconut's making itself known and there's a nice not-quite sweetness balancing out the sharp bite of the patchouli Dry: Still patchouli, still sharp, slowly mellowing out and the coconut makes itself more apparent Dryer: Much more mellow, thank goodness. I have to admit, I am not a patchouli lover, and thought I hated the stuff till I discovered some of Beth's blends, but I was afraid this one was going to be way too much. However, I love coconut, and this is definitely coconutty, the more it mellows down, the more the coconut pokes its head up and says "Hi there!". It's wavering on the edge between sharp and mellow, patchouli and coconut, and one whiff is nearly pure patchouli, the next is coconutty goodness. I'm thinking I have to have a bottle of this, and set it aside to age. I think with a bit of age, the sharpness will mellow out and be absolutely lovely.

    Crowley

Oh.... Crowley! This is definitely the scent that didn't so much fall as saunter vaguely downwards! In the bottle: sweet, vanilla-y, musky, spiciness Oh: Well, I can't wear it, but on my hubbie... ye gods and little fishes! It's sex. Inna bottle. It's the scent that slithers and sidles up to you and makes indecent proposals. It's spicy and slightly sweet and a little bit of warm leather.. . Okay, so my review isn't the best, but that's because my head's still spinning

    The Great Sword of War

Very citrusy, but to me it seems almost more lemony than mandarin. The citrus is very strong in the bottle, with a spiciness to it. Wet... more lemon! Good thing I like lemon. It's very lemon-ginger tea. After wearing it a while, it takes on sort of a very high quality pipe tobacco smell. With lemon. Overall, nothing like what I actually expected, but I *love* it. It's a very clean sort of scent, but warm, not the usual crisp/coolness I associate with 'clean' scents. I dunno, maybe it just reminds me of Lemon Pledge or something

    The Dodo

In the bottle this is very bitter-cinnamony, the cassia's definitely extremely *there*. Wet on skin it gets even more bitter-cinnamon, and there's something in it that makes my nose almost numb. Dry... smelled the same for an hour, then mellowed out to more of a sweet cassia, sort of like Big Red gum. Unfortunately it made my nose itch/tingle the entire time I wore it, so I'm guessing that's a bit of an allergic reaction to something in it. Ah well.

    Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo

I love this stuff! It's a very light scent, hard sugar candy-ish with hints of citrus. If I had to give it a colour, it'd be a cantaloupe orange or a pale chartreuse. Mind you, chartreuse is my favourite colour, so maybe that's why I think of it when wearing this oil. It's definitely hard to be sad when you're wearing this. My father recently passed away, and luckily enough, very soon thereafer I got an imp of this, and honestly, it really helped. It's a light and carefree sort of scent that just lifts you up when you feel down. Absolutely a 'buy a bottle' scent.

    Thirteen (13): April 2007

When mine arrived, it was also seperated out, clear on top and opaque on the bottom layer, yay, cocoa absolute! After rolling it to mix, I opened the bottle up and whoa! Chocolate! Spicy chocolate with a hint of mint, so that'd be the catnip. I was hoping for more cocoa, but this is pure chocolate with a spicy bite wet on skin, it's not till the drydown the herbal notes begin to peek back through. Then I got a very slightly minty, herbally 'green' smell with an undertone of, yes, chocolate. Even with all the chocolate, it's not really a 'foody' scent, it's more of an herbal scent with a bit of bite that just happens to have a chocolate element. I was hoping for more cocoa, I think I'd have preferred some bitterness with the herbs, but fans of chocolate scents will probably love this one.

    Milk Moon 2007

In the bottle: very sweet and fruity, but something that makes me think of lotus... it has that kind of bubble-gummy floral to it On: Whoa, this has some throw. My hubby says he can smell it from across the room and I only used a drop! Still very sweet and fruity-floral but there's a sour undertone coming out in it. An hour later, the sour note's gone, but it's even sweeter and more floral than ever. I never got much 'fruityness' from this at all, except in the bottle, and now it's got sort of powdery undertones. Overall impression: Not what I was expecting, I wanted more cream and honey, and all I got was very floral sour fruitiness. Alas.

    Bad Luck Woman Blues

This reminded me weirdly of Enraged Groundhog Musk in the bottle, with the sweet dark musky caramel I get from that. On, it was a completely different thing. The first scent that hit me on skin was salty sea spray, very much like the undernotes in Jolly Roger with something I kept trying to identify as maybe a sort of anise... then I realised it's nutmeg. Lots of nutmeg. It's a strange juxtaposition, the warm earthy spicy musk and nutmeg with what smells like clean fresh salty sea notes. Later on, I get more woody notes and less spice, the spiciness hangs back and it's more of a calm, dark sort of clean scent. An hour or so after trying it, I get nutmeg again. Nutmeg and musk. Well, maybe my skin loves nutmeg. Overall, not a bad scent, but not one of my favourites.

    Mandrake

In the bottle: Mmm. a hint of cedar, forest dirt, a 'green' herbalishness, and something that smells almost musty. Weird, but I like it. For some strange reason the image I get in my mind is an old cedar chest stored out in a garden shed. On, the scent morphs to something that makes me think of working in an herb garden. Dirt, and green, and maybe with a cedar tree nearby. The mustiness is gone, but there's still something dark and mellow lurking underneath. I wasn't sure about this one, it was a "why not, it sounds interesting!" but I really like it.

    Moon Rose

Disclaimer: I don't like rose. I can't stand rose. I will never, ever wear rose. That said, if I *did* wear rose, this would be it. This is the only rose scent I've ever smelled I *liked*. It's light rose, and white flowers and, well... dew. There's something very fresh and clean about it. It's a lovely, almost lightly aquatic rose floral. I'll still never wear it, but really, for a rose scent, it's really, really nice. To me, this smells like a *real* rose, fresh out of the garden, with the dew still on. It's very natural, and not at all 'rose perfumey'.

    Bordello

I loved this in the bottle. Sweet, juicy, yummy cherries and berries with just a hint of strong red wine. Wonderful scent. On, well... no, waaaaaay too strong. Overpoweringly sweet. My skin just amps anything 'sweet', and this became in-your-face. Almost candied fruit sweet. I love it, I just can't wear it.

    Bluebeard

My hubby really likes lavender and vetiver scents and they work well on him,but not this one. Waaaaay too floral, even after wearing it a while and hoping it would just go away and calm down to something less in-your-face lavender-violet. It's a dark, dark edgy violet-lavender, though. I was hoping for something a little different, I suppose. The vetiver just seems to darken up the lavender and violet and give it extra 'oomph'. Not for him. Nor for me. Alas.

    White Rabbit

I love vanilla scents, and almost all the notes in this, so this one was something I had to try! Unfortunately, I don't get much vanilla from it. Wet in the bottle it's very tea and pepper, with a bit of sweetness which is probably the honey/vanilla. Maybe the sharpness is the pepper and ginger combining. Very two-edged, anyway sweet and sharp. On and dry... disappointment. Fabric softener. Probably the 'linen' note, but it smells to me just like fabric softener sheets.

    Mad Hatter

I love this one, but I like it better on my husband than me. This one's definitely a favourite of his... he bought two bottles! The pennyroyal's a lovely mild mint smell, and the lavender and musk seem to sweeten/deepen it nicely. It's a very *clean* sort of scent. I don't get much citrus from it, though.

    Jabberwocky

This one's nice, but I don't think I can wear it. It reminds me of being ill. The very eucalpytus-y scent of vaoprizers mixed with orange cough syrup. It's a very medicinal smell.

    The Caterpillar

Holy smokes, it's a florist's shop. It's very green, and with lots of florals all sort of mixed together. One whiff it's jasmine, then some other floral, and maybe a rose? Very interesting and complex, but way, way, way too floral for me!

    Osun

I loved this in the bottle! Very sweet honey with a sort of yummy undertone of spiciness that somehow seemed foody. No particular spice I could put my finger on, it was just 'yum'! On skin, the morphed dramatically, and something that smells a bit like rubber is coming out, not in a bad way, but weirdly, rubber. I could see it if it powdered down like other people have described. After a while the rubber seems to tone down and there's herbs! Almost a lemony scent, and very sweet florals, and a lot of 'green'. Well, at first sniff I thought this one would be a bottle for me, but after wearing it, maybe not.

    The Carpathian Mountains

Very interesting scent, not sure it's for me to wear, but I like to *smell* it. It's just a nice smell... In the bottle: very evergreen- fir, junipery everygreen, not pine and *snow* I still don't know how you get snow in a bottle, but this smells like snow! On: The snow scent's there still, which is weird, because the entire scent 'warms' up considerably, it's a sort of warm-cool dichotomy. Minty liquorice! Oh, and raspberry leaf, I can definitely smell the raspberry leaf. After a while, something almost like tobacco seems to come out. It's a lovely scent! Not for me to wear, but I do like smelling it.

    Jólasveinar

Weird, I'm not getting much of anything sweet from this. No cakes for me! This seems to be a very masculine scent, to me. I get an undertone from it that's very reminiscent of old-fashioned spicy bay rum colognes. The "snow" smell is definitely there. It's something very cold and chill under the bay and evergreen scent. The mental image this wants to call to mind for me is an old-fashioned gentleman in a snowy forest clearing. Not what I expected, and not for me, but my hubbie's happy to have it

    Creepy

Mmmm... buttered popcorn and caramel apples! Or, maybe popcorn balls... I don't know why, the butter in this just makes me think "Oh! Popcorn!" It brings to mind fall carnivals and trick or treating way back when people still handed out things like homemade cadied apples and popcorn balls. I loved this in the bottle, love it on my skin! The buttery smell fades a bit on, and it settles down to a sweet, caramel scent with a hint of boozines which is I, suppose, the rum. What can I say? Just... yum!
  22. hecate_jones

    Grog

I love this! Smells like Buttershots. It's sweeter than I expected, and very sugary/buttery with a bit of bite from the rum. Discovered it layers lovely with Jack. I think Jack+Grog is now my perfect scent. I'm in loooooooove.
  23. hecate_jones

    Jack

MMmm... love this! Definitely buying a 5ml of it. Warm, sweet, spicy, buttery perfection. Stays around on skin like it smells wet, too. Just yummy!

    Sri Lanka

Very nice, at least in small doses, which is strange. I generally hate patchouli, but I can tolerate it when it's with sandalwood. The sandalwood and cedar are really strong in this, and the patchouli's more of a background note. Still, definitely not for me.

    Aureus

In the bottle this smells exactly like spirit gum. That's a bit off-putting. On... very resiny, still. Mellowing down to a sort of spicy maybe frankincense smell, and it's getting sweeter. I love frankincense, but this scent isn't for me. ADDED Feb. 27: Very resiny! A little too resin-y. I'm not sure, I think this must have patchouli in it, there's something about it I quite fail to like. I can very much smell the amber, and sandalwood, which I usually like but it's a bit off-putting. It's very hrmm... turpentine to me. Off to a new home for this one! eta: whoops, forgot I'd reviewed this one before. Silly me.
