  1. Regarding Bliss - I keep getting the impression that it's pure chocolate and only chocolate, practically a single note - am I wrong to assume this? Is it really a multi-faceted scent?

Oh my goodness, try it, I think you'll just love it! If you're thinking that by Bliss being solely chocolate, that it might be boring, it's not. It's all chocolate, but amazing. It still has changes between when wet to dry. It warms up so nicely. It is pure chocolate, but just as interesting as any other complex BPAL scent.

  2. Also, there are threads in Recommendations where members are asking for scents like cotton candy, or something a young girl who likes sweet scents might like...

Here is a list of secondary foody scents (and what makes them less foody):

    Alice (floral)

    Dorian (fern)

    Kali (floral)

    Snake Oil (incense)

    Dia De Los Muertos (floral/incense)

    Centzon Totochtin (heavy)

    White Rabbit (tea, less sweet)

    Sudha Segara (ginger, less sweet)

    Perversion (smoke)

    Black Pearl (floral)

    Blood (cherry, not sweet)

  3. You can "stalk" my scent choices, if you like. I have my top ten and other good things listed in my signature.

And now, a list of foodiness:

    Bliss

    Gingerbread Poppet

    Dana O'shee

    Vice

    Velvet

    Hecate

    Eclipse

    Juke Joint

    Chaste Moon

    Dragon's Milk

    Jack

    Bon Vivant

    Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo

    March Hare

    Jailbait

    Wrath

    Three Witches

Or...go to the advanced search engine and search for "oriental/gourmand/spicy" in the scent families list:

If you're looking for dessert-like foody smells, which I suspect you might be (as opposed to fruity food, or spicy food), my most foody would be:

    Bliss

    Dana O'shee

    Gingerbread Poppet

    Jack

  4. First impression: :D This is really strong. I don't like strongly "happy" scents, for some reason -- I didn't have a good impression of Has No Hanna because it was so in-your-face happy. Maybe it's like when you're in a bad mood and you see someone that is happy for no reason, and it's irritating. :P

First sniff: Aunt Caroline, is that orange juice?

Drying: Ooh, strawberry! Like strawberry soda! This is a sugary strawberry, not like the fresh bubbly strawberry in Bon Vivant.

    Dry: Cotton candy?

Verdict: Okay, I think I'll keep this. :D Maybe I'll wear it to sleep.

  5. On first sniff of Bathsheba, my nose is confused. I smell something fresh, slightly sweet, kind of fruity or floral, I can't tell. It smells to me exactly like the hyacinth flowers my dad grows in the springtime -- a fresh flower with green stems. Oh, is that the carnation then? I can recognize the plum now, which is always like sugared juice to me. The musk adds a powdery haze to the whole blend. I think I like this -- I so wanted to like Bordello, but I've only worn it once because it's so strong to me. I think Bathsheba will be my wearable plum. :P

  6. Whoa, bubblegum! The very thick, sweet smell of bubblegum. Orange lingers in the background of Jailbait, and the perfume scent is perfectly balanced. I was overwhelmed at first by how strong (I thought) Jailbait was, but it mellows out pretty quickly. It reminds me of a lot of the body sprays and hair gels that girls use in junior high and high school -- all of these fruity and floral smells mixing together. It smells fun and happy, but I don't think I'll ever wear it. It's such an interesting scent though, that I'm glad to have tried it.

  7. When first applied, Kuang Shi smells very dry, like a light incense. While dry, remains fresh and bright, probably from the undetectable mango and mandarin orange. As time passes, the mango and mandarin round out the blend a little more. All in all, Kuang Shi is way too dry for my nose.

  8. First sniff: WAAAH! Myrrh, yuck! Blah, myrrh always smells like church to me. Yuck yuck yuck.

Drying: The sweetness of rose and sharpness of jasmine balance each other out, blending floral with myrrh.

Dry: Wicked is like a powdery potpourri scent.

Verdict: This reminds me of a perfume that my mom used to wear when I was younger. Tatiana, maybe? Wicked is way too mature for me, too serious. Me no likey.

  9. Skuld smells slightly of cherry when first applied, but then I realize it's just the honey. After just a few seconds, the smell of labdanum makes itself present. I can smell a faint floral. The blend overall smells powdery. I would recommend this to someone who likes O, or wanted something similar to O without the amber.

  10. Feminine sexuality in its rawest form. Palmarosa, red sandalwood, attar of rose, patchouli.

I'm surprised that I like this.

Wanton smells mostly like sweet rose -- not a sugary rose like in Alice, just sweet. It makes me envision trees in the rain, for some reason. The scent is soft and round, still rosy, but not powdery, and a little spicy. It's somehow watery to me, but not aquatic.

I don't think this is much like most scents that I usually like, but I can't stop smelling it.

  11. All of my BPAL scents lift my mood. Wearing them makes me happy.

I like to wear a lot of comforting scents. All of my favorite blends will even out my mood, and bring me up a bit. As others have said, your idea of a mood-lifting scent will be very different from mine, but here are some good ones:

Dana O'shee - Milky and honey, basically. This is not a new scent for me at all, but just the other day, The Boy said, "Mmm, this smells like baby milk!" I don't really know what he meant (he didn't mean breast milk or anything, ha) but it was so cute :P

Bliss - Chocolate! It can be a little weird to wear at first, but it's good! Chocolate and endorphins and all that good stuff, right?

Wearing my #1 Favorite BPAL of the Moment helps to put me in a terrific mood. :D

  12. Iris is the most prominent note in Dragon's Eye on my skin. The dragon's blood resin is hidden underneath, the way I remember it to be in Red Moon. The lilac comes out more as the scent dries, adding depth and a surprising warmth. Overall, the florals definitely make Dragon's Eye "piercing," as written in the description.

  13. Ooh, this smells like a beautiful forest at nighttime! It also smells like a good man. :P Not my style at all, but Nocnitsa is so fresh smelling...maybe good for someone who missed out on the Yuletide blends and wants to smell some Christmastime pine.

  14. On first sniff, Ave Maria Gratia Plena smells like the church I used to go to when I was little. When it dries, it is a light, airy floral, barely detectable. I'd say that it's a pleasant smell, maybe what someone would smell like after a bath. I think my mom would like it (her favorite perfume is Miracle).

  15. Centzon Totochtin is thick and dry and strong. The cocoa is bitter and blends well with the wine. The rum really tips this blend over the edge with complexity. I would recommend this to someone who liked the darkness of Intrigue, or wanted a stronger, floral-less version of Dia De Los Muertos or Kali.

I don't know if I can wear this. It's insanely deep and lovely, but not sweet enough for me.

  16. When I first applied The Lovers, it reminded me of Magdalene (a scent I didn't really care for). Is that mimosa I smell? There is something that smells very cleansing in this blend, a citrus or something herbal. When it dries, it smells more and more like Alice, but maybe with a touch of ginger. I'm not sure how much I like this. It isn't sugary enough for me. I'd recommend this to someone who liked Maiden, but wanted something with a stronger tea-like scent.

  17. Aizen-Myoo is a fresh floral scent tempered with tea. I've tried to wear it a couple of times, but I think the scent is a little too "piercing" for me. I think it would make a great room scent because it is fresh and bright.
