    Smells like Demeter 'Waffle Cone'?

I used to love Demeter. I had a bottle of Angel Food Cake (maybe I still do) and one time I literally soaked one of my summer tops with it. That seemed to work in keeping me smelling like it for as long as I wore it. I like bpal much better though. Dana O'Shee is a great angel food cake smell and a much better bang for my buck. I've never tried their waffle perfume. If you want the syrup included you might like Pancake Breakfast. Is it still available through the trading post? If not you may be able to get one from someone on the forum.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

I take back what I said before about Antikythera Mechanism not being enough like Glowing Vulva. AM is made of win! When it sinks into my skin it smells the same, exactly the same! I guess when I smelled it before it was a different batch, or too fresh, or I tried too little a dab? The masculine note disapears on my skin now. Thank goodness, because GV is just too hard to find!

    Kill-Devil

In the vial: Sweet, like some kind of syrup. My first impression is artificial cherry. Wet: This is reminding me of the scented pencils my teachers gave away to people when they made an A on a test. Whoa sweet. Dry: I still smell something like artificial chocolate and something fruity. It reminds me of Vice, but only a little bit. I don't think I like this very much because the sweetness is through the roof, but it doesn't really smell like much of anything that I can identify. I really like O, which a lot of people have been comparing this to, but O is a little more down to earth than this. O is warm and comforting. I do understand the comparison to Sugar Skull. I pulled out Sugar Skull 04 just now to compare. Sugar Skull has a strong fruit note, while Kill-Devil is more vague in its fruitiness. If you really love Sugar Skull, you should try Kill Devil.

    Nuclear Winter

In the vial: aquatic and minty. Wet: peppermint and aquatic. It feels very slushy. Drydown: The early drydown is a very well blended mint, like the peppermintmint from Lick It Again, and the slush note which is aquatic but not soapy or overpowering. It's nice and cold, but there's a little something extra in there, something musky. Then the long drydown is very musky reminding me of Pisces 08. I love Pisces 08, I love peppermint, and I love Nuclear Winter. I tend to hoard my foodie scents most devotedly, but when something comes along this well-balanced and classy, and yet evokative of a certain mood, well I can't just let it pass by un-hoarded. I can imagine this getting heavy use in the summer, but I could wear it all year long. Edited to add: this is the '05 version that I have reviewed

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Whoever said that Jailbait was a lot like Teenage Cannibal was right on the money. Jailbait has some wintergreen in it, whereas I don't get any wintergreen from Cannibal. The drydown is nearly identical though.
  6. mooncityminx

    Sundew

In the vial: Some sort of soap Wet: floral. A bit like lillies. A faint bit of citrus in the background. Drydown: White floral. Too clean for my tastes. I can see why people are calling it "yellow" though. It does evoke that color somehow.
  7. mooncityminx

    Jailbait

In the vial: a fresh pack of bubblegum Wet: Bubblegum, the kind in the yellow package sometimes called tooty fruity. Or Chicklets maybe Drydown: Wintergreen peeks out from underneath the other gum fragrances. But this time it is not making me sick. I have an aversion to wintergreen due to my uncle's disgusting Skoal habit when I was a child. In this case it is tempered by tooty fruity, so it doesn't remind me of Skoal, thank goodness. Gum! I think it's wonderful! It gets a bit spicier as it dries reminding me more of Teenage Cannibal than The Blockhead. Ooo, you know what this smells like when it's completely dry? The bubblegum flavored wax that the orthodontist used on me to make impressions of my teeth. LOL. I always loved that flavoring they used.
  8. mooncityminx

    Slippery Poppy Tincture

In the vial: sour berries and green grass Wet: Apple and a very fresh wet flower, crushed stem, apple peel. Mmmmm! How fresh! Drydown: Now the green stem has taken center stage and a fresh berry is in the background. This remains a grassy scent, freshly mowed lawn and crushed flower stems. But with something tangy, fruity, and slightly sweet. I am reminded of One to Tie, Two to Win because of the grass. It's not the same perfume, but because that note is the star I think someone who likes one will like the other.

    Nostrum Remedium

In the vial: white floral Wet: floral, then lemony, but now I think I smell the tea. I was worried at first. My chemistry tends to amp white florals. This is very clean, but not soapy. It's getting sweeter. How refreshing! Lemon and sweet tea. Drydown: When this is dry it becomes very balanced and light. I could see wearing this in the summer a lot. It's clean and refreshing without being soapy or overwhelming. The drydown reminds me a little of Xanthe but less candyish, and a little of other green tea fragrances.

    MVJBA: Summer Summoning Spectacular

In the bottle: butter and pepper. How odd. Wet: Very green, crushed plant stems, stems of flowers, grass, something overly toasted, maybe the pancakes cooked too long? Grasses and spices. It's almost as if my local indian food store spread out their goods on the grass for a day and threw a picnic. I think the pepper is very interesting. I think I smell curry! Curry and green grass. Hmmm. Dandelion! This reminds me strongly of One to Tie, Two to Win. I think that is the dandelion note. Nice! But with a little curry thrown in. Interesting. I'm not getting any coffee or pancakes but it is very nice.
  11. mooncityminx

    Huesos De Santo

In the bottle: Buttery cake Wet: Buttery creamy orange cake, this is so making me want to taste it. But I won't. Mmmmmmm! Drydown: Unfortunately the cakey goodness disapears into a anise smell. The anise smell is nice, but not nearly as nice as the cake. I tried putting it on my sweater instead of my skin and it did seem to prolong the cake phase. But it still went anise within about twenty minutes. I am debating a second bottle of this so that I can apply and re-apply all day long. This is going to be one of those blends that the foodies like me will forever covet.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

If another incarnation of Lick It comes out with this years Yules, you can layer it with Snake Oil and to me, that is pretty close. Maybe not identical, but very close. Mmmm mint!

    Sugar-Slathered Candied Apple

In the vial: caramel and apple. This is the apple of Poisoned Apple, which is lovely. The caramel is rich and warm. Very true to a soft caramel candy. Wet: Woah apple! This is a juicy and tart green apple now. The caramel is just perfect, not too buttery, not too sweet. OMG, I had no idea this would be so good. Curses that I only have a sniffy! The apple is much brighter than it was in Creepy. But the caramel is similar. Drydown: Ohhhh, the apple is soooooo goooood... This one knocks all other apple and caramel blends out of the competition! It's just so much stronger and yummier than I was expecting!
  14. mooncityminx

    Snowblind

In the vial: buttery and a very strong crips mint. Peppermint victory! Wet: Similar to Lick it Again, but more buttery like those after dinner buttermints. Smells on my skin the way Tokyo Stomp smells in the bottle, but TS goes weird on my skin, whereas Snowblind doesn't. I am reminded a little bit of Dana O'Shee for some reason. Drydown: This goes very faint after it dries. I guess my skin absorbs it.
  15. mooncityminx

    Sugar Cookie

Someone gifted me with a sniffie of the 05' version, and I'm just now getting around to trying it. In the vial: Buttery like shortbread. Reminds me of Eat Me and Mr. Nancy, but without the fruit from either of them. Wet: Vanilla candy corn. A simple vanilla sugar scent. Some people might consider this a bit candley, afterall this sniffy is about three years old, but ultimately it is difficult to find a vanilla this strong. As it dries I am detecting even more sweetness. It's less complex than Midway. And I think it's even more sugary, which I would not have thought possible. Dry: Not bad at all. This is still sweet vanilla. Simple and direct. I think I like Midway better, but this is still very nice. I would buy it if it were re-released.

    L'Inverno Bath Oil

Hmmm. Aquatic grapefruit and some evergreen. This is very interesting. Nice and cool. I look forward to using this in my hair next summer.
  17. mooncityminx

    Black Lotus

In the vial: A bowl of sweet fruits in syrup sitting next to a pile of spicy incense Wet: Fruity! I understand the bubblegum comparison. Kind of spicy too. This is wonderful! Just the right kind of spicy too. Yum! Dry down: Oh, this is so wearable. It has turned into a spicy "oriental" fragrance. It is just very slightly powdery, but not in a bad way, plus some exotic spices. It has the same mood as Samsara which I used to wear a lot before I discovered bpal. I hope to find more bpals like this one. The fruit is almost entirely gone now and it's only been a few minutes.

    Who are the authorized resellers?

Yay, that means it will be easier to ask for bpal items for Christmas and birthday. I can put them on my wishlist and that way none of my family has to figure anything out.

    Switch Witch Help

My Amazon Wishlist - I didn't create my Amazon list for gifts, so if you are looking for a gift on it, please sort by priority and take a look at my comments. I don't want all of the books on my list. I also use the list to keep track of things I want to check out of the library, etc. What is your favorite pumpkin goodness? OMG, pumpkin everything! What is your favorite part about fall? I love the colors of the trees and the way the light changes. I also love the cooler weather and wearing soft sweaters again. And the flavors of the food and the smell of the fireplaces. Do you like office/school supplies? If so, what is your favorites? I love gel pens the best. Black or pretty colors. I also like cute little notepads and things shaped like food. What's your favorite Halloween candy? It's been so long since I've had halloween candy that it's hard for me to remember. I've really cut down on my sugar intake these past few years so when I do have candy it sort of makes me jittery. I love peanut M&Ms and chocolate mint stuff. Chick-a-Stik, violet crumble, and charleston chew! Any period of time that you love? Ancient Egypt, and Victorian times, flappers! Favorite artist? Ernst Haekle, Salvador Dali Halloween. Do you like it kooky or creepy? Kooky. I especially love Halloween, orange and black, purple, pumpkins, black cats, bats! Tea or Coffee in the morning? Both. I drink espresso a lot, I grind my own beans. I like loose tea from Tao of Tea here in Portland. Rose tea and chai are my favorites but I also like herbal teas. Fruity snacks or chocolate? Chocolate! What keywords do you use when searching for items for yourself on Etsy? steampunk, lovecraft, donuts, doughnuts, minature food. Are there any of y'all who are allergic/sensitive to having natural fibers on your skin? Sometimes when wool is really scratchy it irritates my neck/chest area, but not usually. Bugs? Do you like 'em or not? Bugs can be pretty. I guess as long as they aren't real bugs, we're cool. i haz no imp storage. do you? I do have some, but I would not turn down additional imp storage. Do you decorate for Halloween? What sort of decorations? Dress up for Halloween? I would love to. Usually I just wear my Trick shirt because it's not as fun to dress up by myself. I would love to decorate too. Bats, cats, skeletons, monsters, vampires, witches or what other ghoulies do you prefer? Bats, cats, skeletons, vampires, ghosts and witches! Do you like horror flicks? No. What about stationery? Need some? What styles do you like? I only use really small little notepads because my handwriting is awful and makes my hand cramp up. So the extent that I write is usually a grocery list or bpal notes. What is one item that you've wanted forever, could have afforded, but have never gotten and why (haven't you gotten it!)? Migi nail art metallic polish is something I've wanted for a long time but never bought. Also creative sticky base coat, because I can't find it here. There are a lot of GC's on my wishlist I keep meaning to buy but never do. Especially Oof, but that one is more expensive than the others like Hollywood Babylon, etc. And as for why, aren't there always plenty of LE Bpals to buy? I'm also supporting a few new crafty hobbies. What Halloween scent are you most looking forward to? Sticky Pillow Case, which I will order soon, not that I wouldn't love more. Tilt-aWhirl and Alley of Games. OMG, and Huesos de Santo! Reduce - REUSE - recycle. Do others feel the same? Yes. What is your favorite crafting supply? Crewel embroidery wool which can be found at thrifty places for about 50 cents a skein, but also knitting supplies. Weigh in...Are you right or left-handed? right Will you be participating NaNoWriMo? If so, is there anything you'd like to have for that? Yes, but all I'll be needing for that is a laptop. I don't think that's really a SW item though Favorite Book Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrel by Susanna Clarke. I also have her book of short stories. Because of this book ravens are especially wonderful to me. Symbols meaningful to me Anchors, tridents, the number seven, the number three, ravens, lions, foxes, wolves, stars, uranus, trees, fish, strawberries, lightning, the tarot card queen of cups, the tarot card high priestess, skulls, rockets, the moon, polar bears, submarines. Other things I collect: San-x characters, the ones that are cats dressed up as food, the ones that are household objects with faces are so funny like the tissuebox head. I love Hello Kitty. Hoshi no waguma, Dokidoki Yummychums (the hamburger), and Pandapple. Sizing issues My head is really big. Bigger than normal people's heads, apparently. Hats don't usually fit me unless they are adjustable or very stretchy. How do people feel about receiving baked goods/kits to make said goods? Or other cooking items? I cook a lot, and I love it. I've always wanted to make those sea-shell shaped cookies. What are they called? Madelines? I would love recipes in general. Your (my Witch's) favorite recipes would be great to have, if you are also into cooking/baking. New Questions/Answers 9-4 I'm trying to keep up with them, but I feel like I am missing a lot. What is everyone's favorite Halloween song?! On the radio where I used to live I used to hear "The Monster Mash" a lot aound Halloween. It makes me giggle. I would say the entire Sweeney Todd soundtrack (Tim Burton version) But who am I kidding? I have the collector's eddition and listen to it all the time! How about Night on Bald Mountain. That's the right name, right? I have it on my ipod. It's spoo-kay. How many of mah fellow witchies play video games? Platform? Do you like used games? I have an Atari that still works. It will always be my favorite. I enjoy Joust, Super Breakout, and Qix the best. I also have a Super Nintendo with several Mario games including Mario Allstars, Mystic Quest, Secret of Mana, and Mario Cart. And I have a Sega Dreamcast with Soul Calibur and Gauntlet Legends. I play computer games a lot more, but I still love my video game systems. Are you expecting bpals in your package? No, I would be happy either way. I don't know if I've said it before but I appreciate sniffies and unattractive bpals as well as the new ones Favorite art movements? - Art nouveau is my fave, closely followed by Art Deco and surrealist. I am partial to old fashioned scroll work like on the old dollar bills and the ads for the pharmecopia. Who here reads comics/graphic novels? And Which ones? I have been collecting/reading Cardcaptor Sakura and I have 1-6. I would love to finish this story sometime! Do you wear a watch? If so, what kind/style? I haven't worn one in a long time, but I have a really old Casio. I only wear digital watches. How do you feel about having a donation made in your name to something? If you like that idea, what types of organizations/groups would you want the donation to go to? I'm not super crazy about it. I support a local organization called Street Roots, but I prefer to give them the money in person because most of it goes to the vendors (of the paper) who are homeless. I've got nothing against charity, I just really like to be involved in a more direct way whenever possible. (Later Questions) What one (or two, if you really must) BPAL bottles are you most longing for? Hmm, I am going to place an order for my most coveted bpal LEs next update, so I have to say OOF (which is kinda pricey as a bottle per SW budget) or an unbpal HAEE Voodoo Punani. I have never actually smelled VP, but I hear that it smells a lot like Glowing Vulva. I only have a partial decant of GV and it is mysteriously magical on my chemistry, so I have to find a substitute. Since there are always must-have LEs coming out from bpal, HAEE purchasing gets indefinately post-poned. *pout* Tarts?I have a defective tart warmer. I mean, it can't seem to stay lit ever. It's very frustrating. Someone gave me a candle warmer which is similar but electric. If I had a ramekin I could use it for tarts. I would like to do that. Last time I bought tarts though, they were very stinky. I bought from a place I heard about on the LUSH boards that did LUSH mocks that turned out not to smell like it at all. My cabinet where I kept them still reeks, even though I got rid of them. Every time I open it, my husband complains. What think you about receiving tea accessories and/or miscellany (like mugs, cups, saucers, strainers/filters, honey, natural sweeteners [like stevia])? I have way too many mugs already. And my cupboard overflows with raw honey. I have a very nice cast iron teapot, so I don't need any strainers or things like that. I hate artificial sweetners. If my witch really wants to get me some special tea, that would be fine, especially if it is a type of chai or rose tea. I also like sugar in the raw type sugar. About burned copies: bring em on! I started to say more about that, but decided that I don't want you all to be called as witnesses. My favorite animals would be polar bears, although I also like ravens and foxes, and wolves, and cats of all kinds. See, I really like a lot of animals. Are you planning on buying anything from your bpal wishlist during the SW time? Yes, I will be buying Sticky Pillow Case, the Halloweenie that smells like orange cake (forgot the name) and some of the CD rides when they are released. Most likely Tilt-a-Whirl and Alley of Games at the very least. But I'm not planning on buying anything else from my wishlist during that time, and I expect I won't mind having extras of those I listed. In fact, I expect to love them all in multiples. I'll only be buying one of each at first though, and I am waiting for the full moon to order at all. Would you like a blanket? Sure thing. I love throw blankets. In the winter I wrap up in one during the day, and lay it over me at night for extra warmth. It gets very cold in Portland and we don't believe in using the heaters much unless one of us is sick, or we start getting muscle cramps. For that matter, any warm wooly stuff would be much appreciated. Only that I have a lot of scarves already (not that I'd mind more) and my head is pretty big. Wooly socks are my favorite. Earrings? I like stud earrings best, but any type of earring that is not too heavy or nickel would be appreciated

    Switch Witch Help

What do you think of Irrelevant Disturbing and Surreal Crawdad Dream? I have a bottle. It is somewhat balsamic on me so I am aging it to see if that goes away or not. How do you feel about trinkets? You know - tiny toys or doodads that serve no purpose than to be cute, take up space and make us smile. Love them or waste of money? As others have said, this sort of depends on what it is, but I would love cute littl Halloween trinkets. Puddin sent me a glow-in-the-dark skelleton last year when I participated in the Inquisition and it has been on my bulletin board all year. Can melty things be shipped to you, or will they be in puddles by the time you open the package? I think melty things would make it okay. They usually do. Who likes pirates? Me! I love piratey things. What are your feelings about Dia De Los Muertos? I think it's a really great concept. I would totally dig a sugar skull. What do you think about the Nightmare Before Christmas? I'm not really as into it as I used to be. If candy is sent, would you prefer small amounts to a Halloween sized bag? I guess I would rather have smaller amounts of better candy than a big bag of random. But I don't want to be too bossy about this because part of the fun of witching is being creative For cheapish candy I like the bubble gums, tootsie rolls and peanut m&ms. I also love gourmet candies though. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, pumpkin stuff, autumnal themes. Mmmm candy! Do you like floral bath soaps, shower gels, etc? If so, what florals work on you and what don't? Keeping in mind that I am allergic to most bar soaps, I like tea rose, honeysuckle, and jasmine. I think there are other florals that work on me, but I can't think of them at the moment. I'm not really big on shower gels though, except for covetable stuff like Crabtree & Evelyn. I'm a total snob when it comes to body products. I hope that doesn't cramp my witch's style. TV shows I wish weren't cancelled: Star Trek Enterprise, Dead Like Me, Jericho - although that one was a little too nerve-wracking, Poirot, Murder She Wrote (yes, I know that's dorky, I just don't care) Favorite Fall thing to do: I like going to the farmer's market with my husband and enjoying the fair food while listening to live music and shopping for groceries. I like eating out with him on the weekend at a Pho place. I enjoy sipping a latte at a coffee shop, or curled up on my couch with him watching a netflick (Battlestar Galactica most recently) or when he is at work, curling up on the couch ideally with my cat and listening to an audio book, or reading a good book. Glancing up at the trees out of my window changing color. Maybe baking something yummy and having a pot of soup on the stove. I really love fall. Three living people I could have dinner with if I could choose anyone in the world: Do aliens count as people?

    The Knave of Hearts

OMG! How did I not know this existed? I am smelling cake, buttery baked goods, currant jam but not too sweet, spices and incense. Ooooo. This is more wearable than Crumpet Rebellion, but just as decadent. Obviously KoH is lacking the marmalade, etc. But the concept is similar. Eventually I do smell something cleaner, but not enough to go soap. It ends up being more spicy as it dries down. Yum!
  22. There are some patchouli bpals that have that note. I'm not a big patchouli collector, so I don't know of any but Goblin which mixes it with coconut. I think of that patchouli as a bpal dirt note.
  23. I dunno. To me, Soft Coeur smells exactly like the rest of the Honey Bee & HIWTK line. I haven't found any bpals that smell like it, although some go with it nicely like O and Hony Mone.
  24. Do you mean the body bar? I think it and TKO smell a lot a like. In fact, my mom loves Soft Touch, so I bought her a bottle of TKO for her birthday and she agreed that they smell similar.

Irrelevant and Disturbing Surreal Crawdad Dream

In the bottle: balsamic Wet: still vinegary, but mixed with sweet blueberry gum, not too much, just enough to turn into juicy blueberry tarts. Drydown: Almost vanillay or sugary like Hope, but with slightly tart blueberries mixed in. I still get the powdered-sugar-smell that I got from Beaver Moon, but this time it is subtle, offset by the tartness. Blueberry cakes I can still detect vinegar just a little bit. Different enough to be interesting, yummy enough to be something I will actually wear, and I absolutely love the concept. The label is gorgeous, pink and red crawdads against a green background. Forum only scents make me feel special. ETA: I totally get the comparison to those tinned candies. Only on me this is more vinegary. I wonder if that is my chemistry doing that? I like it.
