    Salomé

I recently bought an imp's ear of this from the lab, with the intention of wearing it to the opera, which is still many months away. I may very well have to order a whole bottle before then. I expected this fragrance to be pleasant, but I was not expecting to fall in love. I'd never sniffed it before. In the vial is the only time I can smell the almond, and it's not the sweet almond of Dana o'shee. This is the dry realist almond, as in a handful of almonds. It is very faint, though. Mostly, I smell incense and sandalwood. On, the Jasmine comes to the forefront, making the fragrance decidedly feminine. This is, thankfully, the rare Jasmine type that I can wear. Sometimes (as with Monsterbait Bigger Critters) Jasmine can go a bit baby-diapery on me. Sorry to put that so indelicately, it's just something that happens with my skin chemistry. But, as I said, this is the heavenly Jasmine of Parlethenope (of the Carnivale Grindhouse) and I am very thankful for it. I do adore Jasmine. The Jasmine mingles with exotic incense, and sandalwood. Together, there is a phantom of smoke and leather. I get a sense of decidedly feminine power, very badass, but also sensual. This fragrance is for a woman who is in control, perhaps an alpha female. Perhaps this is the perfume "Coco" (by Chanel) wants to be, but falls short as a mere imitation. Salome is the real deal. Salome is the fragrance of the woman I hope to grow into, and I am very thankful to have found her.

BPAL for fancy, elegant and formal occasions

I just bought tickets to some operas, and am starting the search for the oils I will wear. I have a long time to plan and order, but I thought it might share the fun. I want to slip an imp pack into my next order, so I'd prefer GC suggestions. But LEs aren't a problem if they aren't too hard to get. The performances are: Opening Night - no idea what they will be singing Salome - This is a bit obvious. Salome into the imp pack goes. Is there no scent for the head of John the Baptist? Lucia di Lammermoor - Wikipedia entry I have no clue for this one. Pirates of Penzance - Wikipedia entry Hey, there was an LE Frederick, wasn't there? Would that be too masculine, though? What else comes to mind?

    Okiya Atmosphere Spray

To me this smells like straight up cherry blossom, in the best way possible. I love cherry blossom, and it is hard to find a fragrance that smells like the real thing. The green tea must be what makes it smell so fresh. This is my new favorite BPTP room spray!

    Opium Tar

OPIUM TAR Opium accord and black currant. The label has a cute shield surrounded by filigree, topped with a skull. The shield has designs in four quadrants, a bomb, the brimstone symbol, lips, and the triple dagger heart. This was included in my etsy loot when my Looking Glass Bath Oil arrived today. It's a greyish-white powder in a cute little plastic jar with a metal lid. I haven't used it yet, but it smells sort of fruity, like berries, just sniffing from the jar. Thank you, Puddin! UPDATE: I used about half of the jar in my bathtub today. (Half because the other half stuck in there and I decided it looked like it was bubbling plenty.) I now have identified the "fruity" scent as being very similar to Poisoned Apple, but with more poison than apple. It's really very lovely.

    BPALS TO REPEL DOGS?

My dog seems to like every bpal I've ever worn, some more than others. Sometimes she likes them so much, that she tries to steal the imp's ears from my desk and starts chewing on them. She even likes tiger balm, while not a bpal at all, is certainly something I would have expected to repel her.

BPAL for fancy, elegant and formal occasions

I do, but it's really citrusy on me. I think I will do the Snake Oil, because it is a classic. Thank you for your input.

BPAL for fancy, elegant and formal occasions

That's a good idea, but can you think of a green tea scent that isn't fruity? I think I have any green tree viper, but I will double check when my fingernails are dry. ETA: I wish I had a good cherry blossom scent, but I traded Hanami away, and I've never gotten around to ordering the salon that is mostly cherry blossom. Maybe I will make that a priority with my next order.

BPAL for fancy, elegant and formal occasions

I'm going to see Madame Butterfly this evening. I am trying to decide what scent to wear. I don't know how theme-y I want to be. I just want to be wearing something sophisticated that won't clash with the mood. I'm having a skin chemistry issue right now, that makes me want to avoid berries and fruity scents. (Ooo but maybe I'll test The East this morning, just to make sure.) I will be wearing a dress from Anthropologie. It is back lace and formfitting, high neckline and a pencilish hem to the knee. (They don't have it on their website anymore or I'd link.) I'll be wearing black pearl earrings. On theme, I don't have any butterfly oils, and the only straight-up Japanese one I have is Tissue, but I don't want to wear that. Some of my favorites that I have on hand are: Morocco Snake Oil Snake Charmer Schwarzer Mond Lyonesse Elephantine Colossus Vixen Pisces I also have Looking Glass bath oil, and I am considering using it as a body oil instead of wearing a perfume. It is really amazing. And I also have a plethora of imps and decants that I couldn't possibly list. Thoughts? Suggestions? ETA: I just tested The East and Looking Glass, and they are both less than wonderful with my skin chemistry of the moment. :/

    Leather Phoenix

I put some on my wrist, and some on the back of my hand, because some scents are somewhat different depending on where I put them. The one on my wrist started out as seductive and masculine leather with hints of patchouli and wood and a tiny bit of lemony goodness. Then it got a little skanky. I don't mean that in a bad way. It's just something very animal peeking out of the well blended cologne. Ten minutes later it is smokey green tea, very nice. The one on my hand is my favorite. The green tea really shines, though the leather is there, and the other notes blend in a way that is a little smokey and really really amazing. It's clean and dirty at the same time and beautiful. Ten minutes later it is green tea and incense. I hope that with some time and experimentation, I will get more of the back of the hand, and less of the wrist. The wrist was a tad too masculine and animal for me to really wear, until it eventually mellows. But the hand is perfect and amazing. Either way this is a powerful and evocative scent. ETA: My bottle totally has that dark layer at the bottom that FSP mentioned. I can't get it to mix. Maybe it will be like the prize at the bottom of my bpal cereal.

    Sprinklecake

This is sad. I don't get any cake from this at all. It's a fruity marshmallow like I Fell in Love with a Floating Brain, and Plastic Pink Flamingo had a love child and called it Sprinklecake. It's the same citrus sugar from Floating Brain on top of the marshmallow of Flamingo. And since I like both of those, I have to say it is nice. But, I was really hoping for something like Cake Smash only lighter or more of a white cake maybe. In the bottle it smells a little watermelon-y and citrusy. Maybe my chemistry did a number on it. I really want more cake. This is a fun scent, I just really want more cake. if you like this you might like: I Fell in Love with a Floating Brain, Plastic Pink Flamingo, Marshmallow Poof, Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo*, Tweedledee* *some of my favorites and also in the GC

    CCNow Questions & Problems

I moved, and placed an order with my new shipping address and my old billing address. CCNow sent me a confirmation. That was when the #Occupy Wallstreet scent came out. Today my husband changed our billing address. Will my order go through okay?

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I'm not sure if it will work as well for others, because my skin chemistry seems to be a bit unique, but Lyonesse seems to be very similar to Burberry Brit on me. Lyonesse: Golden vanilla and gilded musk, stargazer lily, white sandalwood, grey amber, elemi, orris root, ambergris and sea moss. Burberry Brit: Italian Lime, Icy Pear, Green Almond, White Peony, Sugared Almonds, Amber, Mahogany, Vanilla, Tonka Bean. So, the only notes that actually correspond are amber, sandalwood vs mahogany, and vanilla. I don't get any almonds, florals, or fruits from BB. BB does seem just a little more earthy to me, though. I attribute that to the mahogany. Lyonesse is a spicy oriental for me, for what it's worth.

    Linden-like?

Thank you, what category is Spirits of the Dead? ETA: Thank you, Alder. I will try it out

    Linden-like?

Wow, thank you. You're right though, that's not much. It sounds like the Unicorn was the one most likely to fulfill my linden lust. Too bad. I hope Beth will make us a new linden-centered scent soon. ETA: They are all discontinued. Wow.

    Linden-like?

The search function is still disabled on the BPAL site. There is an incredible linden tree reaching into my back yard from the neighbors and I want to smell like it. What bpals have linden?

    Skadi

Someone gifted me a sniffy of this. I was very excited, having sniffed someone's bottle at a meet-n-sniff, some years ago. I couldn't actually remember what it smelled like after that long, I just remembered it was wonderful. All I am getting is the berry note and the pine. But it does smell very cheerful and Christmas-y. Maybe it is the age of this sniffy that has me missing out on mint and snow. If it ever comes back, I will buy a bottle, but my memory of it is better than the actual thing on my wrist.

Looking Glass, Looking Glass Bath Oil

Mmmm! This stuff is amazing! I definitely get rose from this, very fresh red rose, but it's so much more than that too. The berries and resins and florals all blend together almost seamlessly. I think it would pair really well with Red Lace, Snake Charmer, or Madame Moriarty, as it has the same sensual vibe. It's very seductive.

    Spicebush Swallowtail

Wow, this one is really special. To me, it smells just like gingerbread with some tea and maybe a little honey and cream. Maybe Chai and gingerbread. Mmmmm!

    Power

Fragrance-wise this smells like cinnamon, a clean white floral, and warm resins. It's really nice and reminds me somewhat of the smell of Hand of Hermes, only less fiery. Generally in use, I put it on the top of my head, and barely notice the smell. But I like to know it's a nice one. I've been using it to boost the effect of other oils in purposes such as luck and dispelling negative energy. It does amplify my feeling of being bad-ass. I like feeling like a bad-ass. I could see wearing this by itself anytime I am feeling a little less confident. It really does smell wonderful. The floral is coming out more and more. It's not soapy, but warm and authoritative. I think I'm going to start wearing it on more than just the top of my head.

    Crown of Success

Okay, so I've been wearing this everyday, a little on the back of my neck. I noticed immediately that it made a huge difference. It helped me de-cord from multiple psychic vampires in my life, which alone is worth a lot. But it also seems to shield me from jealousy-negativity. I love my other protection oils, but none of them seem to be as effective at dealing with this specific type of negativity, and this is the type of negativity that I most need help in dealing with. Crown of Success is powerful and potent! I knew when I smelled it, it meant business. I don't know how to describe the smell. My husband says it smells like myrrh. I think he sort of likes it, but I wouldn't wear it to smell good. It doesn't smell bad, not at all. But it's obviously serious, something that's not to be trifled with. Since I started wearing it, I feel like I have my mojo back. I have a lot more energy and I seem to have a much easier time doing the things that I have always loved, like painting, writing, etc. I think that before I was being bombarded by psychic attack from multiple sources. I have been pairing it with different TALs on different days. Some days I wear it with a creativity oil like Hymn to Pan or Nine Muses. Sometimes Anthelion, Power, or a luck or joy oil. I don't know if I'll always have to keep wearing it everyday. I do feel like I have to re-apply after I bathe. But it takes such a tiny amount to work, I'm not going to stress about it. I am so glad I bought a bottle of this!

    Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo

I love Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo so much. Wet: It's like fruity bubblegum. Mmmmyes. It also reminds me of kool-aid and jello in a nostalgic way. As it dries, it gives off a subdued floral that reminds me a little of honeysuckle, but that floral is very subtle and disappears quickly. Drydown: It becomes sugar with a little light vanilla. Yes again! I love it so much that I added some to a bottle of unscented Dr Bronner's soap, and I use it for shower gel and shampoo. I want to smell like this always. This is my new signature scent, my new favorite BPAL, and it does make me feel happy. *slathers*

    Helping Hand

Scentwise, this is a very beautiful smokey tobacco and something mysteriously incense-y. I would not be surprised if this had spikenard in it. I'm not saying it does. But someone let me smell spikenard once, and this reminds me of that smell. I put some on my neck and wrists with intent. At first I was overcome with the wonderfulness of that fragrance, then about an hour later it smelled a little weird for a few minutes, then it smelled good again. I want a puppy really bad. And my husband does not want another pet. I am quickly becoming obsessed with a particular breed of dog. I really need a dog and I am desperate to change his mind. I then baked some chocolate chip cookies, and as they were baking, I anointed a white candle and told it about how I want a puppy. I lit the candle and finished making the cookies. When my husband got home, he was thrilled to see several sheets of perfectly formed chocolate chip cookies. He hugged and kissed me, and said I smelled like vanilla. He asked me if I rubbed cookie dough on my neck. This is particularly funny, because usually when I wear a vanilla bpal, he complains. Most of the few fragrances he has complimented me on have been TALs. He likes the smell of Helping Hand, and this makes me think I need a bottle. Later last night he said I had been quiet the past few days and asked how I was doing. Then we had the dog talk again. But this time he gave me his specific objections and I was able to reassure him. He said that he would think about it. In the meantime, I know what I need to do to convince him and he isn't frustrated with me. Needless to say, I am about to make a TAL order and Helping Hand is on my list.

    Red Lace

I just got my bottles in the mail. And I never in a million years, would have thought I'd love it fresh from the package, because that never happens. But I do. This stuff is ass-kicking-amazing. It's resinous like Lyonesse, but instead of the aquatics of Lyonesse, Red Lace has some vanilla sugar and raspberry. It's not sour raspberries. These are just some background berry action, keeping things sweet. I can not get over this vanilla/resins combination! It's not powdery at all. It's young and sweet and sexy. And kind of unexpectedly classy for such a young scent. Now that it's been on for about ten minutes, the raspberry has faded, and it's just a sweet whiff of incense over golden vanilla. I can't even imagine what this is going to smell like after it has aged. Thank goodness I ordered two bottles. Why didn't I order three? Try this if you like: Antique Lace, Midway, Lyonesse.

    Tricksy Bath Oil

Weird! I love this scent, but to me it is nothing like honey, and very little patchouli. I mean, I can tell that it has some patchouli, but it's so well blended that the only thing that stands out is pine. To me, Tricksy smells like I'm walking through a huge evergreen forest where the pine needles have been falling and collecting on the forest floor for so long that every step I take is a cushioned and fragrant crunch. The pine needles on top give off the fresh pine smell that is clean and fresh and naturally exhilarating. (No this isn't a soap commercial) And the pine needles from years past are below that, giving off a sweet earthy smell that mixes with rich dirt. The star of the show is the pine and the surrounding woodsy smell of the forest itself. I really love this. It's the perfect forest smell. I'm using this as a sort of after bath oil, because I want to sniff my arms and be mentally back in that forest. God, I want this as perfume, and as room spray, and I want to put it in my shampoo and lotion as well.
