  1. @Cour des Miracles: Eventually, the wishlist can be shared. I haven't decided if I want to allow the ability to share the inventory or not, and potentially, if the "loves and dislikes" page goes the way I want it to, theoretically, that might be something I set up so people have the ability to share it as well.

    @BlackTauna: from the FAQ:

Q: How do I delete things I added by mistake?

Right now, there's no delete button. However: if there's something else you want, own, have tried, have purchased (but not yet arrived), or are swapping, you can easily update the entry to be something else. For instance, if you mistakenly put in "Dorian" twice, you can update one of the "Dorian" records & and add "Pumpkin King" - you've always wanted to try it, after all!

  2. I am envisioning a "Randomizer" that will give you a random scent from your stash so you don't have to decide what to wear anymore.. heh.. and what if you could set it up to run everyday at a certain time and the result could be texted to your phone... oooooo

I could probably do the random selection part, on the front page of the stash, if enough people want it. Though, I'm evil enough that if you have untried scents, I'd probably make it prefer untried scents to tried scents, and unreviewed scents to reviewed scents ;)

  3. @Sparkley: I'm going to try to add a delete function. It's hard for me to debug that one, because I don't know how much of my magical admin powers allow me to do things that others can't.

@quik: The perfume listing comes from the database that runs the price caps & Lab search (the scent database). If you see an error, click the name of the scent and it'll bring up the scent page, and you can report problems that way (typos, wrong prices/review link, etc). For bugs / desired features, I was planning on starting a topic for the stash manager in Forum Questions when I add it to the forum navigation bar and announce it, but you're more than welcome to beat me to the punch :)

  4. It can be really freaking expensive, but keep in mind: you don't have to use what the pattern calls for! Like, the shawl I made last October/November/December actually calls for this yarn that's $25/hank and you need 15-20 hanks. No freaking way, man. I ended up using eBay-purchased Noro (which ended up being $7/hank) - but could have used all sorts of other yarns instead.

One of my favorite places to buy yarn? Knitpicks.com - good quality, fairly cheap (their worsted wool is $2/110 yds for the dyed stuff and $3.50/220 yds for undyed). They don't ship to the US, but I'm sure you can find someone to ship it to them and then on to you!

So, like, a bathmat? You're talking, goes-in-the-bathroom, gets-wet-and-stuff bathmat? Use the cheapest washable yarn you can find. (My grandfather used to hook rugs using it - it's soft, washable, and super duper cheap.) You may need to do some gauge math - use a bigger/smaller needle, change the number stitches - but really, it's a bathroom mat. Nobody will care that it's a little too big/small except for you :(

And I am with you as far as the charging a million bucks for hand-knit goods. After all the time and frustration that goes into knitting something, and the subsequent satisfaction that is felt with the finishing of it...IF you can bring yourself to part with it, there is probably no way anyone could pay enough to make it worth your while!
True story: I was wearing Lady Eleanor to work one day - they keep the office really freaking cold, like 64 - and one of my coworkers came up and complimented me and asked where I bought it. When she found out I made it, she asked how much I'd charge to make another. I told her that at minimum wage plus material costs, she'd be looking at a good $400-500 and that it'd take me at least three months to do. She blanched and stopped asking me about my knitted things.

But the real irony in that is most of what I knit is about a week's worth of work - two or three if I'm being slow and lazy (scarves, mittens, cat toys, and I'm branching into socks as soon as I clear out my current projects). Most of what she saw me in that had been knit, I bought!

(and trust me, it's really cold here, I NEED the rest of the sweater!)

Most of the east coast doesn't know what cold is. Even up by you - the lows for your area have been about what the *highs* here have been. And that doesn't include windchill or the snoooooooow... Anyway, I haven't seen above-freezing since early January.

    ;) for me!

  5. ROFLMAO because one of my bestest friends in college is a drag queen, and I remember how much fun he and I had shopping. Hell, he's still one of the first people I call when I wanna go out and spend serious money on clothes ;)

...He also is the one to point out that drag queen stores sell shoes in my size, and I will be forever grateful for that. Do you know how little fun it is to buy shoes when you are FORCED to go by catalog because nobody carries your size?

  6. Scarfs are horrible! I only knit them as gifts anymore... because I'm too impatient to do them for myself.

Oh see, I love knitting scarfs and shawls. They're long enough that I have to focus, and there's all sorts of interesting patterns (of varying complexities) and yarns out there, and you can make scarfs for all occasions (not just for the cold winter - cute scarves for accents for work or play!).

...but that said, it took me a few times before I found a pattern that was easy enough to do that interested me enough to finish it. My first scarf attempted became a foot long cat toy. My second ended up becoming something that's either a hat or a neckwarmer, depending on how it's worn, because after I put it down for a few months, I couldn't remember where I left off.

  7. hahahaha!

i'm from iowa, you know, so this crappy beer thing, i'm somewhat familiar with. sadly, there are only two places to get decent beer in my hometown - old chicago (because of the microbrews and imports they stock), and this irish pub

anyway, that's really what turned me off of IN and really the movement as a whole - the "you're not as realized as we are" coupled with a real stubbornness to help people get there. one of my big suggestions for IN back in the beta test was to, if not actually get into the basics, to link to it. i don't know if they do now, but their attitude about my suggestion was basically that - if you're not there, we're not going to help you get there.

  8. As far as this forum is concerned, she is not "blacklisted" for anything in F_S's blog entry. She's suspended (not banned, though that may very well be the next step) for breaking several rules and then lying about them.

Now, individuals may choose to "blacklist" them for things they find questionable, such as the things mentioned in F_S's blog, and they've got that right - just as you've got the right to not shop at Walmart because you disagree with their union policies, or you've got the right to not purchase McDonalds because they use oils containing trans-fats (where other fast food joints, like Wendy's, do not), or you've got the right to avoid Curves because the owner is pro-life.

  9. As unbelievable as it may be, Disney doesn't have an active trademark Snow White for perfume. Just makeup. Different classification.
I found it, QS: they have in fact trademarked their perfume as "Walt Disney's Snow White," not just "Snow White."

As far as the trademark office is concerned... perfume Love Potion #9 is different from perfume Love Potion #13 is different from perfume Love Potion ... and "Walt Disney's Snow White" is not the same as "Snow White" - and for "Snow White" itself, Disney only has a trademark on makeup [and the movie/etc].

I would not be surprised if some of the other pefumes that were mentioned are also trademarked as [x]'s [y] as was the case here.

  10. This is business.

Except: this forum is NOT business.

While the Lab profits from its existence (especially with the vast reviews area), and they have supported us in the past (such as donating about $1,250* of oils and BPTP items for the raffle and before the raffle), they do not pay our bills. We are an *unofficial* forum, though the Lab has adopted us and we let them post announcements and pretty much whatever they want, because we were created to talk about their products and generally worship at their feet. (Well, the last is an exaggeration, but you get what I mean.)

*Keep in mind, running this forum is incredibly expensive -- their raffle donation doesn't even cover four months of our server's expenses.

  11. First off, I want to point out that Oly made her comment in early August, and it wasn't until late August/early September that the Lab requested people stop calling non-Lab products as "imps", and October that they made the announcement at the forum that flat-out said not to call non-BPAL items imps.

    Now...

Why would someone create a 2nd account for "market research" when they can do all the market research they want at their own forums? Again... doesn't make sense. People, myself included, have posted the exact same post, word for word, from the Suggestions forum here to the Suggestions forum there. Why would she need to break the rules to see these posts when we're giving them to her freely of our own accord? And as for seeing BPAL reviews, it's the only section of the site that you don't even need to be logged in to see! So again, why create a second account? I'm not saying the mods/admin are lying when they claim Michele created a 2nd account, I'm just saying that it doesn't make sense to me why she would.

I have no clue as to why she created a second account, except that it happened the day after we restricted her account for being an e-tailer, and then she switched to yet another account within a day or two after we restricted her account again for being a suspected duplicate account (which further analysis of the forum logs showed to be accurate). The individual whose account it was gave Michele the login information because Michele "wanted to look at the H&E topic".

...which she did. Along with a handful of other topics she doens't normally have access to, as well as the topics for other perfumeries [which, for clarification, she does normally have access to].

HOWEVER, that said, I can easily see why someone would use this forum as market research for a perfume house: we've got a strong userbase, with a significant amount of comments and discussion about our likes and dislikes going back nearly three years. I don't know her usage rates as her membership is entirely closed and I really doubt she'd approve an account for me, but they can't anywhere near ours -- ezboards's fees would be up the roof if they were (there's a *reason* we're on a dedicated server, after all).

  12. My perspective would be that if the Mods or Beth didn't want people to do business with Michelle due to her behavior, they would remove the forum entirely. Which, based on your post, may be next.

If Michele does not follow our rules, she will lose access to the Retail Therapy section or the forum all together, and she is well aware of this.

I'm not sure what you mean by "do business" with Michele. It's not like she financially supports the forum, despite all of the people that have come her way.

Keep in mind that until this new competitor had her access restricted, she had access to all the members' posts about which scents they liked and didn't like. Just like any other forum member. She had access to etailer threads of her other competitors, where she could see what people liked and didn't like about those businesses as well.
After her access was restricted, she did still have access to other etailer threads. Everything in the retail section was still open to her. She was only shut out of Suggestions, Swaps, & BPAL + TAL chatter areas. Otherwise, very detailed post. I'm impressed.

Though, since she used her second account to view those areas... she (as a person) wasn't, just she (as that particular user) was. She's not the first person to use other accounts to get around restrictions like that, and I doubt she'll be the last.

  13. I think this is an excellent addition, particularly since I know someone who's in Mensa, and I usually check my watch when I first encounter him at a gathering, and then time how long it's going to take for him to mention that he's in Mensa.

You know, it's really funny... there seems to be two kinds of people in Mensa: those with enough class (or whatever) to not constantly talk about it, and those who are so invested in "being the smart one" that they can't help constantly talk about it.

  14. passed!

(Though I admit I'm jealous of a test with a 78% passing rate, my exams usually have a 40% pass rate.)

They scale the results so approximately 75% of the first-time takers pass, and that those who pass have to correctly answer a majority of the questions on each exam portion.

  15. passed!

Nevada doesn't license people who have taken the PE without the experience - but once they have the experience, people who pass the early PE option just have to apply to the board to get their license.

My home board told me that that would be the case should I take the PE in Nevada prior to having my 4 years of experience -- no re-taking the PE necessary. I just like the idea that when it's time to go job hunting after I'm done with my M.Sci.s that I can state that I am an EI and that I've passed the PE on my resume -- I think it'd be an advantage, especially with firms that like to have their engineers licensed.
