  1. I smell almond and something rich and earthy (vetiver?), mulchy almost, as I put this on. Eww, and there's whiskey?

:D Baron, vat are you do-ink?

    Smells like drunken Troll! :P

This is neat but not really me.

  2. Huh. I really can't pick out the notes, which is puzzling me, but this smells salty and astringent when wet. A floral note starts to emerge as this begins to dry - and something in here is tickling my nose fiercely. I think I smell the nectarine and possibly gardenia under there...

Hrm. This one just makes me feel uncertain and sneezy. Not a match.

  3. Mrs. Black, you're not the only one - I smell honey, too! Honeyed lilac when wet.

Like a dry, cultured, skeletal hand reaching out to grab hold of your wrist. Funny - honey that isn't honey - that's awfully cruel of you, Famine. The lilac fades, at least I think it does? I can't pick out any individual note, though I know frankincense is in there and that always makes me think of bones, so this is just perfect. It's this wonderful sweetness that rides the razor's edge between foody and graveside floral. Like food that turns to dust in your mouth.

This is so cool. I'll have to test and be patient and see if I can wear this, but I'm getting such a wonderful, synaesthetic experience from this.

ETA: Oh nooooooo! Now it smells like (I hate to say this) vomit. Stupid skin! :P

  4. A nice, dark cherry - blessedly free of cherry blossom, tea, patchouli and/or lily! - and on my skin the dry woods immediately start to emerge. And they get VERY strong and pencily. Is there cedar in this? HMM. I can barely make out the cherry and now it's a bit medicinal.

  5. When I first tested this the wine seemed too strong on me, but I tried it again and I'm mostly getting the cocoa overlaid with musk and sandalwood with just a touch of the sweetness of the wine. It's very nice - dark and swirlingly exotic. Am keeping my extra lab frimp. :P

  6. I think Dorian is spookily like Hanae Mori. My sister wears HM religiously and I smell it every day. I just tried Dorian for the first time and my immediate thought was 'damn, this smells just like Hanae Mori!' Even through the drydown.

Thought you might want to give that one a shot if you haven't already - though this thread is pretty old, so maybe you've found a different BPAL that fits even better!

  7. I think I'm starting to like vetiver. :P

This hits me a bit like Troll did - well blended, cedary but not overpoweringly so, with the vetiver a rolled in very nicely. Oddly comforting in an earthy sort of way. There's something very smooth and fine underneath - maybe that's saffron?

    I like it.

    ADDED March 19:

    Mmm, sexy carpenter!

I like this, despite the vetiver and cedar. It's dusty and smoldering.

  8. imp: spiced stewed fruit and coconut meat

wet: nice throw! sweet, peppery fruit

This morphs loads during dry-down and becomes a soft, earthy sort of incense. Very pretty and warm - with foody undertones of spices, coconut...I think I can pick out the spikenard.

  9. imp: jasmine and moonflower

Moonflower smells like fairy bells. :P And for the first time, this first whiff of jasmine reminds me that jasmine is in fact a very lovely scent when it is not being a bitch to me.

wet: incredible throw, and the rose is coming up...the sweetness of a spring night mist. Could this work for me? I hope so.

The incense emerges as this begins to dry...soft and gray...god, this is so beautiful.

dry: The jasmine and the incense do amp up a bit, but I am floored by how lovely this is and how much I like and can wear it. I am definitely keeping my imp! And I think Nuit might be going on the short list of jasmine scents that do not utterly ruin themselves on me, along with Queen Mab.

  10. imp: wisteria and lavender

wet: the same - it's sharp

    dry: salty, tumbling floral

Hmm. At first this is a high, keening floral. The musk/floral combo is giving me that mom's period ew mother's toilette scent.

However...the throw is very nice. I can smell the rose coming through as a mid-tone, smooth, thin sweetness. It's only close up that the musk is unpleasant. And once this is dry the sandalwood is evident and the sharpness of the lavender has died down. Much more balanced now!

This smells like the tight little orgasm your throat has right before a good sob.

(Okay, so writing the words "mom's period" and "orgasm" in the same review has seriously creeped me out. :/ )

  11. In dramatic contrast to the soft innocence of Snow White and the dew-kissed freshness of her sister, Rose Red, this is a blood red, voluptuous rose, velvet-petaled, at the height of bloom. Haughty and imperious, vain, yet incomparably lovely to the eye, but thick with thorns of jealousy, pride and hatred.

This, I love. A very elegant, dressed-up yet soft-spoken, regal rose.

  12. imp: peach, touch of wine (now that I know it's there!)

    wet: mmm, peach...

dry: the muskiness and the wine are making this sooo juicy

I love it. I was worried about the wine and the myrtle, but this is so lovely and divine. Peach is like an anti-depressant for me. I'm so glad I've found this scent! Bottle please!

  13. Hee hee - my imp is labeled "LANGOUR". Collector's item!

    Anyhow, yes - review!

    imp: classy band-aids (opium!)

wet: I can just make out the rose and a smidge of lily under all that opium

dry: lily pollen smothered by opium poppy

Good throw, but my skin hates this. On me it's plastic band-aids and sneezy pollen. :P

  14. Initial thoughts: I'm prepared to dislike this, because of the violet.

    imp: slick floral

wet: the vanilla and gardenia are strong, but I'm getting that bubbly prickle of violet

    dry: soft, vanilla floral

You know, I think I'm liking this! The vanilla is a touch doughy on me, and I'm still not a violet fan, but it's pleasant nonetheless.

  15. imp: sugar shock floral...jasmine!!?

    wet: uh oh

dry: I think I detect a bit of almond or vanilla?, or something similar: sweet, smooth and low.

Something in here (I suspect jasmine, but I'm prejudiced) is giving me a sour edge that I don't like. Sad sacred whore. :P

  16. imp: pine

wet: pine and maybe vetiver or moss? Something that's threatening to go a bit 'old man b.o.'

dry: the stink threat has faded, and this is a nice, mossy, resinous pine forest floor scent.

If you like this, you might like: Troll, Death of Autumn

  17. Peppermint! My skin is cold and tingly where I applied this and has been for several minutes now. But skin chemistry has mangled the vanilla, so I'm sadly getting a strong, plastic-y burnt sugar note. I'll retest, but I'm afraid I might have to swap this candy cane.

  18. Oh my god that is just the best thing I've ever smelled in my entire life. Juicy, sweet, green, elegant, sensual, spinning rose.

I'm sadly foiled by my skin though, as the dry down is weirdly acidic and powdery. :P
