  1. When wet the Marquise is all heady french perfume. Confident, floral and rich with a slight herbal undertone from the vetiver. As she dries on my skin the peach comes out to play-and it's not in a little girl sweet summer peach kind of way. She quickly dominates the heady perfume smell and forces it into a submissive pose. It's not gone, but it is kneeling at the feet of the ripe succulent peach. The vetiver flirts around the edges hinting at it's naughty nature while allowing the Mistress Peach to do the dirty work.

  2. This is an odd scent on my skin. It has a creamy soft side and a hard metalic side. I keep thinking that it smells a bit like a wet rock and sun-tan lotion and a hint of the smell after a thunderstorm. It does fit really well with the concept of the opal, hard but creamy with a blaze of fire, but I don't think I'd wear it as personal perfume.

  3. This is a very unusual scent and definitely one of my favorites from the Pit series. I've worn this all day and have been trying to decipher the notes. It's sweet, succulent and smooth. It has a beachy feel with a brown sugar finish. It swims and slithers around my senses, slipping in with a whiff of the ocean slipping out with a hint of rich olive leaves. It is gentle yet deeply seductive, overall a gorgeous scent.

  4. Dark, deep gorgeous patchouli and rich opoponax. Gorgeous musk and a whole lot of other sexy things!

This one is strong and lasts and lasts on me. At first I thought it was too masculine but as it has aged it has softened a bit I've really come to love it. And as one fellow who was getting close to me said when I asked him if he thought it was too masculine, "You definitely don't smell like a dude." :-)

  5. I love this blend. It's the only bottle I've finished and I'm about 1/4 of the way into my second bottle. I love how the strawberry plays with the creamy vanilla base, the sugar and the hint of the pear. Strangely I don't get the fake strawberry here although I do in Strawberry Moon. This is sharing strawberries dipped into powdered sugar in bed with a lover, licking a drip of strawberry juice off his lips and then...well you can imagine the rest ;-).

  6. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this scent before this. It is one of my favorites and gets alot of wear. I love the combination of fruit and smoke and dark red roses. It has a rich purpley feel to it and makes me feel sophisticated and feminine.

  7. When I first opened DD I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. It definitely has a green start to it and I'm not much for green scents, but even when it was new I found myself reaching for it and as it has matured I've come to love it more and more.

To me it has a definite dark side although it is darkness behind a beautiful sexy exterior. The notes blend beautifully with each wafting gently up to my nose at different times. The patchouli in this is soft and gorgeous and the smoky florals, coconut and tonka make for a gorgeously mysterious and unusual blend.

  8. Wicked, wicked, wicked...in a really good way! I love this stuff and I don't know why I didn't realize how much until recently. I've had the bottle for a while but I just recently started wearing it regularly. I love the hint of the ocean in it with the sexy depth of the wood and rum and I get a hint of patchouli in here too. It stays really warm and dark and sexy on me.

  9. As many before me have said...

This is strong sharp patchouli with some brightness over top. Very masculine...but sometimes I like that. I'm curious as to how it will age as some of my favorite patchouli blends start off too masculine for me but with a few months of aging mellow into something I absolutely adore.

  10. Hmmm...I can't quite decide what I think of this one. I get a lot of new doll scent with this one but...I kind of like new dolls. The boys love this one on me...but I'm not sure if I love it too.

Sorry that's not too helpful but this is really a confusing scent for me.

  11. A scent pulsing with vitality, warmth and insurmountable strength: dragon's blood resin, red and black musks, a throb of fig and a sliver of black currant.

Dragon's blood and I just don't get along...I keep thinking maybe I can get away with it because some of these blends sound so nice...but then the dragon's blood comes out to play and I just don't like it.

This is a lovely scent otherwise. Warm, musky resins and a smidgen of fig...If I could do dragon's blood I'm pretty sure I'd love this one.

  12. Very fruity on me with a soft hint of vanilla and musk. Definitely tropical fruits...makes me think of a fruity drink. It's very pretty and I think will be lovely for when I'm feeling girly but not so floral.

Edit: This has become one of my very most favorite scents. I don't know what I was thinking when I first wrote this review because it does no justice to the luscious loveliness of this fragrance. I want to bathe in this. It is so feminine and flirty with just a tiny musky hint of sex. I love you Vassakassajja.

  13. I am with so many others who found this to be a gorgeous wet floral. I love the smell of tulips (they're my favorite flower) and they are very present here in their cool gentle scent with a hint of the grass growing next to them and a touch of the richer peony wafting by every now and then.

I didn't get much throw on my skin although it stuck around for a long time if I put my nose up to my wrist. In my locket I get a lovely light cloud of wet tulips around me that so far has lasted for 4.5 hours.

This seems like a perfect early spring scent to me...when I lived in upstate NY the tulips and daffodils popping up through the snow were always so welcome when they showed up in March or April and this scent makes me think of the glee I always felt when I first noticed their strong green shoots.

edited to remove the extra words that I never notice until after I hit send!

  14. As the two previous reviews note, this soap is just gorgeous. So pleasing to the eye both in it's wrapper and out.

And then you use it...it is silky and lathers like a dream. For me it was the scent of lightly aged snake oil. Spicy, vanilla, goodness with a bit more creaminess than the oil alone in it's fresh state and just a tiny hint of patchouli. As I lather up with it I am surrounded by a cloud of this gorgeous scent. I even used this to shave with as it has a very smooth, slippery texture and it let the razor slide along my legs easily.

After I get out of the shower and dry off, I notice that my skin is nicely moisturized. I skip lotion so as not to pollute my review and nothing cracks open. As the day goes by, if I directly sniff my skin I can smell the scent but it doesn't waft away from my skin. By the end of the day it is merely a hint until I go to workout which seems to reactivate the scent from the heat and the sweat and I get a fairly strong dose of snake oil wafting up from my body.

Overall, a new staple for me. I'm pretty sure this is going to be my regular soap from now on.

  15. This is one of the first BPAL scents that has gone really wrong on my skin. In the imp I smelled mostly lavendar and tonka and thought it might be quite nice on me, but on my skin it went really sour/nasty. It's softening up as time goes by, but I'm pretty sure I won't want to wait this nasty unwashed feet phase out very often.

  16. Porphyrogenitus, indeed; we worked for it! Not simply the color of royalty, purple is also the color of sorrow and mourning, reconciliation and forgiveness. A regal, majestic, and somber blend of myrrh, plum blossom, African violet, cognac, fig, orris, lilac, wisteria, black plum, and Burgundy wine grapes.

I don't have much time, but I just have to stop in and say...

Purple Phoenix is lovely warm purpley goodness. It's soooo purple smelling which is just amazing to me! I love the combo of fruits and florals with the booze thrown in to keep it from being too child-like. It's a rich, happy scent and I LOVE it!

  17. Mmm....I just tried this for the first time today so this is an early review but I can't stop smelling my wrist. I couldn't remember the notes at all when I first put this on so my impressions are a little bit funny...but here is what I smelled.

Bottle: Musk...dark, deep, luxurious musk with a hint of....is that chocolate? Cola? there's something there that is just a hint foody.

Wet: Ooooh there's some spice in this too. Ginger and a deep dark patchouli and that musk is so delicious!

Dry: Still musky and that hint of cola, the chocolate has gone away (this part reminds me of Schwarzer Mond before it aged a bit), a hint of that dark patchouli and a warm sharp ginger but there's also a soft incense here too.

Overall, it's a lovely evolving scent that is VERY dark and tends toward the masculine side of things...but I said that about Schwarzer Mond at first and now I love it on me and I'm not usually one for masculine scents. I really love the way the scents are playing with each other. Each is gorgeous on its own..the depth of the musk, the hot spice of the ginger, the darkness of the patchouli, and the wispy waft of the incense...and still that mystery hint of cola.

I'll be holding on to this one and I'm sure it will be getting some wear on those nights I'm feeling dark and mysterious.

  18. Nothing to worry about. You won't hear from the lab until your order is shipped and that can take quite a while. Then you'll get an email (a Click-n-ship or CnS) that says when your order will be shipped. At least that's how it works for the US and I think that it will work that way for you.

Just basically be patient and eventually it will come and you will smell sooooo good that you'll forget all about the wait!

ETA: You can look at the pinned topic at the top of BPAL Chatter to see when orders are shipping, it looks like they're shipping the mid November orders right now. It's called "Click'n'Ships and Internationals Only Pls!"

And don't worry, I was totally confused at first too!

  19. Oooh, the rare spicy floral. This blend has a rich thick scent when wet that mellows out and sweetens up a bit as it dries. I don't get the cloying scent I associate with many lilies. Overall I really like it.

This reminds me in feel of Chrysanthemum Moon.

  20. I like Caliban quite a lot. I get a strong rush of salty ocean air when I first apply it and then that settles down to blend beautifully with the greenery. It has a little something soft and sweet in the very back of the scent...maybe the wine??? It's definitely not boozey though. Overall it's a pretty, clean smelling scent that I will definitely be wearing from time to time and I think I'll even make a spray of it because it would be a great linen scent.

  21. A pounding heartbeat coalesced into scent: demonic passion and brutal sexuality manifested through myrrh, red patchouli, cognac, honey, and tuberose and geranium in a breathy, panting veil over the darkest body musk.

I've tried to review this a few times, but I just can't quite decide what I think of it. When I first apply it a get a wet spicey scent. As it dries I do get a hint of peanut butter but it isn't overwhelming. The honey is present and the myrh makes itself known. The patchouli is rich and warm and there's a hint of something floral. I don't get a lot of muskiness with this. Overall I just can't quite decide what to do with this. Do I like it? I'm just not sure.

    Sorry for the unhelpful review!

  22. This was a frimp from the lab and one I probably wouldn't have picked for myself because dragon's blood and I don't usually get along. I like all of the notes in bloodlust except for the dragon's blood though and luckily this one suprised me by not being all about the dragon's blood. I get lots of cinnamon, musk and patchouli with just a touch of vetiver and a tiny hint of the sickly sweetness I associate with dragon's blood on my skin. The sweetness stays in the background though and rounds out the scent nicely. It's definitely a hot, heavy scent-very sensual and rich. Suprise, suprise, I think I will probably wear this one.
