  1. I am so in love with Snake Charmer that it's made my top 3. It's more like the sultry, night time version of Snake Oil...at least on me. It had that spicy vanilla base that remind me of the "gingersnap" quality of Snake Oil. There's something a little more complex and elegant about it. Don't ask me about notes, I can't tell squat from this. All I know is that it's sexy love in a bottle. Definately a date perfume.

I was standing with two gentlemen friends the other night while wearing it. I let them smell my wrist and told them, "It's called Snake Charmer. I think it's a metaphor."

    :P

  2. By far, our most popular scent! Magnetic, mysterious, and exceedingly sexual in nature. A blend of exotic Indonesian oils sugared with vanilla.

I first tried out Snake Oil at July will-call, and it was one of the top two spots on my arms that I kept going back to sniff. I ordered a bottle and it arrived yesterday. I must say that it was generously full. :P

Then I opened the bottle and put some on. I thought to myself...did I really love this that much at will-call? It was very boozy in the bottle and for the first 45 minutes or so.

Then...magic! The scent shifted to a soft, sultry, spicy vanilla and I fell back in love with it. Now THAT'S what Teggy was talking about! This is definately a "bad girl" scent like Anne Bonny, but it's wicked because it tricks you. It seems like something girly and innocent, but it's definately not! Like a Lolita in a bottle.

The Snake Oil bottle should come with a warning on the back: "Danger! Snake Oil has throw! May cause spontaneous sniffing when brought in contact with the opposite sex. Use with caution."

    :D

  3. At last...at long last...I have found my "light scent."

Kumiho is in a close second, but I really think this one is a winner. The grapefruit is very true and fresh (meaning it smells like an actual grapefruit, not candied or plasticy at all). I can get a hint of the ginger and tea underneath, reminiscent of Embalming Fluid, but mostly grapefruit.

Most of the fruity and light scents turn funky on me (R.I.P. Kuang Shi, Doormouse, Envy, Suhda Segara, and Embalming Fluid), so I'm hoping this one will stay true even after an hour. It has a bit more throw than I expected too.

    Yippie!

  4. ... This Harvest Moon oil is a merging of autumnal scents from all over the globe: chrysanthemum, pomegranate, cane sugar and dusty wheat, sorghum, green tea leaf, rice flower and rice milk, Russian sage, bamboo shoot, elderberry, black cherry, wild plum, red haw, hazelnut, red apple and shagbark hickory.

In the bottle, it smells appley. On me it smells like cedarwood tea (if such a thing existed), has no throw, and isn't fruity at all. I'll give it another try or two and edit this post, then it's off to swaps. I don't seem to do well with lunacies. :P

  5. :P

So true. Ship your bottles to yourself by your most trusted method. Insure them, get delivery confirmation, whatever. Don't be afraid to spend a few extra dollars making sure your collection is protected.

For short term traveling (when you can't live without a scent for that special occasion you're attending), I reccomend decanting maybe half an imp of whatever you want. Are you really going to need more than that for your trip? Then if it gets lost, stolen, or confiscated, then it's no big loss.

  6. I got Cordelia as a frimp and it reminds me a lot of the perfume I bought myself for my birthday...and have been trying to sell ever since.

Sure it's soft and floral and pretty, but that makes me think that this is the perfect perfume for a young girl coming of age who is looking for something a little more sophisticated than her Limited Too body sprays.

    Yes...definately a scent to corrupt--I mean er...enable the young.

  7. Ladies and gentlemen...we have a winner! :P

I'm soooo happy this didn't go funky on me. In the imp and wet, there is definately coconut and I think it was the Iris that gave it a twist of sharpness. After a while, it settled down into a very soft, nutty, slightly musky coconut. I love the fact that the musk doesn't overpower this scent. It's just light enough for daily wear.

It has a similar, creamy softness to Black Opal, but isn't quite as dark and overpowering. I'd wear Black Pearl for day, and Black Opal for night. The one really odd thing is that I can't smell it in my scent locket at all. I might have blotted off too much...but still that's odd. I shall have to experiment.

    Lasting time: 4 hours tops.

Verdict: Definately buying a full bottle.

  8. :P ....

    :D .............

    :D .....................Shea butter! That's it!

I bought an imp of this and forgot what the notes were before I tried it on tonight. I thought, "It smells like....not florals...not food...what the....?"

Then I realized that it smelled like skin. Not just anytime, but after I put on sunblock. Still, that didn't seem quite right. It wasn't coconut, but it was close. Then I saw this thread and BAM! Shea butter! It does smell like skin...MY skin!

I think I like it even more now that I know what it is. This one definately has potential to be a "buy a bottle" winner. I know shea butter isn't for everyone, but if you like it, you gotta give Obatala a try.

  9. This is definately one of my favorites. The effort to land a bottle of this was totally worth it for me and anyone else who enjoys foody scents. On me when wet, it's pepermint and coconut. Pepermint fades on me pretty quick and coconut is the dominant note. It's just yummy and warm and tasty, without being too overpowering.

Yet somehow, I can picture Beth making this one with her labbies behind her, singing and swaying...

"You put the rum in the coconut and swirl it all together! Mix it up with the pepermint, and then you have Spoo-keee!"

  10. It's amazing how body chemistry affects this scent, especially since everyone's interpretation seems different. This reminded me a bit of Dorian in the imp and a little like Black Opal once on me.

Unfortunately, I don't get the vanilla/sandalwood love that I get from MB: Underpants. Mouse goes almost pure amber on me. ACHOO! Ooh...pardon me. :P It's nice and soft and elegant, but a bit overpowering on me. I like a little amber, but this is too strong for me to wear regularly. Pity.

  11. Urk...I can't wear Jasmine. Makes me sick, so Solome is out. Queen of Sheba and Bastet, maybe...almonds tend to be rather sweet on me and I already own some almondy scents (Hecate & Eclipse to be precise). Baghdad is on my list of scents to try.

Greed? I never would have guessed, but I can give it a try.

India Bouquet sounds right, but now impossible to find.

Where did this whole, "Too bad Underpants didn't work on you" come from? Cause I looooooove Underpants after it sits on me for a while. It's a great scent, but not my target "Indian food" scent. By the way, when I say "foody," I don't mean like a bakery in this case.

What about The Lion? I've been considering that one.

  12. The notes in Midway are so well blended that I can't even pick them out. My sister reccomended this to me while I was at will-call so I snatched it up and I'm soooooo happy I did. It's just such a soothing, sweet, warm scent. :P It makes me happy when I smell it, but isn's so overpowering that it makes me sick. It strikes me as being the kind of scent that will warm you up on a cold day.

On the downside, it doesn't have any throw. I'm wearing it both on my skin and in my scent locket today and it barely registers. Maybe it'll become a little more potent with age? *crosses fingers*

Overall, Midway is just delightful and I highly reccomend it to anyone who enjoys soft, foody scents. This is definately one of my favorites.

  13. Maybe it was just my batch, but my Bliss smells like chocolate peanutbutter. It's oddly salty. I didn't get the smoothness that I expected of "milk chocolate." I mean, it's nice, but not what I was hoping for. :P

  14. I tried some unscented, sensitive skin baby wipes last night and it didn't do squat. Pity cause I was going to bring the box to will-call for people to use. I did, however, achieve success by using Isopropyl alchohol followed by soap and water. I haven't found any disposable alchohol swabs yet that I could carry with me.

  15. I was pleasantly suprised by this. I was expecting something that smelled more like hickory smoke, but it actually reminds me very much of a burning candle. Not a scented candle sitting on the table, but an actual BURNING candle, melting wax and all! It was the stragest kind of scent to capture, but I find it fascinating.

  16. Herr Drosselmeyer: Hello! I'm The Black Tower!

Ugh...hate it. I thought I'd like it but it's just pure yuck on me. Even my friend who likes tobacco and leather scents didn't like it. I did give it a real shot. I didn't just wash it off right away because I know some blends have changed for the better on me. Not this one unfortuantely. Off to swaps!

  17. Okay, I've put it off long enough. Teggy needs help. I've been trying to find a middle eastern/indian scent that smells like a curry restaurant. I've tried Morroco and Scherezade and both are just far too sweet. I won't want sweet. Smoky is fine, and so is a little wood, but I want zero florals or fruits.

My problem is that I really have no idea what notes to look for. Please help? /grovel

  18. Oh! What a pleasant surprise!

I received this as an imp and was quite surprised that I actually liked it. I'm really picky when it comes to florals, but that hint of lemony...ness makes this very refreshing. It's similar to enbalming fluid, but with a slightly sharper citrus air to it.

The problem is that I love it when I first put it on, but after wearing it for a short while, it fades into soft, non-descript blah on me. I've been wearing it in my scent locket for the last 2 days and I really enjoy it because it doesn't lose the lemony note. Wonderfully fresh and clean without being too sacrine!
