  1. My new mission in life is to wean The Boy onto BPAL. Right now, whenever he wears cologne/aftershave, it's Avon's Mesmerize for men. I'm thinking something similar-smelling in BPAL might be the easiest thing to get him to wear.

Mesmerize's scent description from the site is Mysterious myrrh, precious woods & exotic spices are accented with the intrigue of mandarin and bergamot to create a scent specially for him!

It would be wonderful to find someone familiar with both Mesmerize and BPAL to compare, but if not, any suggestions on something that might smell similar? I'd prefer something without Patchouli (hehe), and he says nothing "that sounds too girly," whatever THAT means. So, any ideas?

  2. I can't decide if I like this or not. At first, the combination of honeyed vanilla and dragon's blood smelled a lot like honeysuckle to me. Upon drydown, I can detect the individual components more.

I think cloying's a good description, but it's not overly bad, just hard to take a lot of. It definitely smells like a floral to me, and I'm not crazy about that.

  3. I decided to try something a little different (for me) and I must say, I am pleasantly surprised!

In the vial, Kabuki is very cherry, almost candy-like.

On the skin, the musk really comes out and blends nicely with the cherry. Feminine and sophisticated simplicity. I didn't catch any of the star anise, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there. Maybe my skin ate it, I really don't know.

The scent isn't all that strong, but I only put a little bit on, which is probably why it faded fast. Well, when I get the bottle I can slather all I like!

  4. The release of the Snake Pit prompted me to dig through my imps and finally give Snake Oil a try. I had been scared of it because of the patchouli in it. I'm not a big fan of patchouli. However, some of the Snake Pit blends sounded so nice, I just had to give it a try finally and see if I should spring for any of the blends (or discourage me from doing so).

That being said, Snake Oil is pretty nice. When I first put it on, there was this AMAZING strong, sweet note which I loved, but I think that faded away fairly quickly. Now I'm getting a powdery, sweet patchouli, but I don't mind it. There's something about it which makes it nice to smell (the vanilla, I'm guessing). It hasn't suddenly become my favorite oil ever, but it is nice, and I think a lot of the Snake Pit blends will temper the patchouli and make it even more lovely.

In conclusion, I think Snake Oil has cured me of my patchouli aversion!

  5. Bliss is WONDERFUL. In the imp and on my skin it was pure chocolate. I couldn't smell anything else, it didn't turn or anything. It was delicious, and was pretty strong too. I could smell it for hours and hours after I'd initially applied it. I'm so glad I have a 5 ml on its way!

  6. Wow!

On me, this is the perfect oatmeal, milk and honey scent! While it's nice in the vial, it's even better on the skin. Unfortunately, it doesn't have much throw and becomes really faint really quickly, so I have to keep sniffing my wrists to smell it (but when I do, it's SO GOOD).

  7. Ahh, my first BPAL oil!

When I first opened the bottle, the scent of musky amber was very strong and overwhelming, so much so that after I closed it, I started sneezing. This saddened me, a sI had pretty high hopes for O (and BPAL in general).

However, two days later, I was brave enough to dab some on, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it did not make me sneeze, and was actually quite nice on. Not straight musky amber, either! It was nice and sweet, and I thought I could detect the honey and vanilla, although I could've just been telling myself that. While it isn't THE perfume to end all perfumes, I liked it and would wear it again.

Also, it lasted (although somewhat faintly) from about 3 in the afternoon 'til after 10. Not bad!
