    Desmonema

In the imp, this smells like a dirty vetiver. Yes this does smell strong, but many perfumes are quite overpowering in their little vial. Wet on skin, this blend immediately warms up, as the coconut and white amber come forward. I get hints of the patchouli and quince, but the vetiver is strong with this one. Dry, this is a wonderfully sweet, but not cloying, rich scent. The vetiver helps keep the sweetness of the coconut in check, while the coconut keeps the vetiver from being too dirty. This scent is like an amalgamation of a tropical rainforest and a deciduous forest. Weird analogy, I know, but that's what comes to mind when smelling this blend. Desmonema wears very close to my skin - which is probably good, considering it's a summery scent.

    Stentor

White mint, lime rind, champaca flower, khus, juniper berry, and matcha tea. In the imp, this smells like my Moroccan Mint tea, from Stash. Wet on skin, this is still the same mint, but with a little bit of warmth, like hay or grass. Dry: This is very odd, my skin is tingling, I'm assuming it's the white mint. It's like how Vicks tingles and cools when you put it on, except this tingling doesn't go away. Alas, the earthy hay scent has turned. I'm not liking this nearly as much now, as there is a "funky" note within the blend. Something isn't playing nice in the sandbox here ... maybe the kuhs or matcha tea? I'm not too sure. Anyway, my arm is still tingling, so I think it's about time to wash this off.

    Aurelia

Sweet and ... peppery? Something in this blend is reminding me of a sweet hot chili pepper sauce (Mae Ploy), but I know it's just my nose playing tricks on me. Once I look at the scent description, I do believe the "peppery" note is actually the combination of pine, petitgrain, mastic and cypress. After realizing this, I can now smell the balsam quality in this blend - and it smells very much like the other reviews have said - Christmas! I can also smell the wild strawberry and currant which sweetens the entire blend, and envelops the pine notes. This seems to help make Aurelia, somewhat less holiday-ish. This blend, at least on my skin, has a medium throw. I can detect a sweetness coming from my arm, but I'm not really noticing an actual distinctive scent. This blend is ethereal and somewhat understated, it doesn't say ... "Hey there! I'm strawberry and pine and currants and mint! Nice to meet you!" Glad I got to try this. I do believe it needs more testing to decide if it's a bottle or not. Probably, not, but you never know

    Rogue

Soft, well-worn black leather, hemp, and rosin. I find this blend to be fresh and clean a yet sweet and "incensey" too. On my skin, this blend turns into a wonderful clean, warm male scent. I honestly had a vision when I put Rogue on. I envisioned my man, fresh and warm from his shower. Towel wrapped around his waist, he sits on the bed as I come in and sit next to him. His lightly spiced soap and warm skin invades my senses. I can't help myself, I lean in and inhale deeply his wonderful intoxicating aroma. Yes, cheesy as that description is, that what this scent is on my skin. I honestly didn't get the descriptive notes everyone else did in this blend - but I love it so much, I don't care

    The Red Queen

In the vial: I think I am getting cherries with a background of dark wood Wet on skin: The wood scent is becoming more pronounced, while the cherries are quickly fading in to the background. Dry: OMG. Pencil shavings. I was so hoping this scent would work on me! But alas, I am destined to have this blend turn into pencil shavings on contact with my skin ... slightly metallic, dry wood. UGH.

    Kali

Imp: Sweet and slightly foody smelling. Wet on skin: Sweet foody floral. I know that seems like an oxymoron, but it really has a pretty floral background with an overlay of something sugary and candied in nature. Dry: Surprisingly like the wet stage, but just a little more mellow and softer. There is an ever so slight soapy edge. Although I'm enjoying my imp, I can't see myself wearing this scent. There is something about it that I am enjoying and something that is also slightly off putting (maybe the occasional whiffs of soapiness).

    Kyoto

Imp: Sweet yet soapy Wet on Skin: Very similar to the vial - cherry blossoms with something slightly spicy and warm (must be the star anise). Alas, this is starting to turn a little soapy on my skin. Dry: The star anice is starting to morph to something akin to licorice. The initial soapiness isn't exactly going away , but it's not getting any worse either. It's funny, I like all the scents within this blend, but this isn't working for me ... may just be my awkward skin chemistry

    Rose Cross

I received this as a frimp, so I'm unsure of the age. In the imp: rose, with a touch of powdery incense Wet on skin: fresh green rose with a pale background of powdery soap Dry on skin: Fresh roses besprinkled with morning dew The wet stage of this blend reminds me of my grandmothers bathroom . She had these pretty little English (or were they French?) soaps that smelled exactly like this - it's uncanny. Wow, so surprised I liked this scent. The rose started out a a little powdery. Luckily for me, the soapiness of the initial application fades to a wondrous fresh rose, not soapy or powdery. I know there is frankincense in here, but I'm not getting any indication of it on my skin. I'm fine with this, as frankincense can be a little overwhelming as I seem to amp this note occasionally. All in all, a lovely perfume! Maybe even a bottle contender

    Greed

Base and earthy, yet glittering with golden notes: patchouli, heliotrope, copal and oakmoss. In the imp: Woody and earthy Wet on skin: The wood calms down and I'm getting an earthy, greens scent - like vetiver (which isn't in the scent description) Dry on skin: Well, the freshness dissipates and I fell like I'm wearing SANDALWOOD. not just sandalwood with copal, but SANDALWOOD!!!! I found this scent most enjoyable in it's wet stage till it's dry down, but after it's been dry for a little while, I think this becomes just a one note wonder. The wet stage of this blend is wonderful. Loved how this scent seemed to allude to vetiver (maybe it's an unlisted note?), but with a resinous, woody undercurrent. I kept having to sniff my arm, I was addicted. Alas, after the dry down, this scent morphs to sandalwood (weird, right?) but without any of the depth of it's prior stages

    Moscow

In the imp: Fresh florals with an under tone of old lady funk Wet on skin: The rose starts to bloom and there is a hint of citrus in the background. Unfortunately, I'm getting this "old lady funk" going on. I'm not too sure whats thats about. Dry on skin: Well, that funk I was getting at the onset has dissipated, but so has the majority of this scent. Short wearing, at least for me. Well, this scent is pretty, once I got past the odd odiferous stage, but by that time, the scent had already evaporated and I had to huff my wrist to get much of anything. Moscow is a sweet, feminine rose scent with a wonderful blend of citrus (from the tangerine) and hints of lily of the valley (one of my favorites). Unfortunately, this blend falls prey to a "funk note" and is short wearing on my skin. Glad I got to try this, but it's not going to find its way to my bottle list.
  11. I think White Rabbit is a great summer scent. The light ginger and crisp linen goes really well with the warm weather. I also like Lolita, with her candy lemony goodness.

    Honey Moon

In the imp: Sweet almonds, almost like a marzipan or almond paste - it's delightful! Wet on skin: The almond notes calm down and the honey comes to the forefront. It's honey and pollen goodness! Dry down: The herbs and florals start to make an appearance now, but they don't dominate the blend. Still getting the warm honey note, but it's just getting more complex, in a good way Wow! I really enjoyed this blend. I thought this may turn too powdery or too floral, but it remained quite lovely and reminiscent of it's namesake. The honey melds so well with the candied florals, while the ginger keeps everything from being over the top cloyingly sweet. I love Honey Moon and am delighted that I splurged on a bottle

    Morocco

Received this as a frimp from my last order ... thanks Labbies! In the imp: Sweet spices. It's like I've walked into my local spice shop and I'm luxuriating in the the beautiful fragrances of indian and eastern spices. Wet on skin: It's a potent blend of spices within a mixture of soft sweetness, amber maybe? Dry: The spices calm down and the amber amps up, making me think of vanilla whipped cream with a sprinkling of sugared spices. Yum! This is a wonderfully foody blend, without being foody, if that makes any sense I really love this scent! It's soft, sweet and the combination of spices give this blend a distinctive edge. Big bottle for me!

    Whitechapel

In the imp: Sweet lemony goodness Wet on skin: I'm not entirely convinced this just isn't Lolita with a different name. Sweet and lemony on my skin with a little tartness underneath. Dry down: WTF? Are you guys sure this isn't Lolita? It smells exactly the same! The description says this is a gentleman's blend ... Lolita in drag maybe? Ok, I did a test with Lolita on one arm and Whitechapel on the other. I find that Whitechapel is slightly less sweet then Lolita, with the barest hint of herbal tones in the background. I am talking nuances here, so much so, that I cannot fathom purchasing both these scents as they are nearly identical on my skin. With that said, Whitechapel is quite nice, a lovely summer scent. I love Lolita, so I guess by default, I love this too

    The Lights of Men's Lives

In the imp: smokey, sweet and a little creamy - reminds me of Perversion Wet on skin: cologne mixed with a beeswax candle Dry down: Well, the wet stage was not as pleasant as I would have liked, but the scent is mellowing a bit. I'm getting more soft beeswax candle and less cologne. Maybe I had my expectations set too high, but I was a little disappointed by this blend. I was hoping for that unforgettable "beeswax/honey" combo - kind of like what I got during the wet stage of No. 93 Engine, but sadly, it wasn't. There was a backdrop of mens cologne, for want of a better term, mixed with beeswax. It's not bad, but not what I was expecting. The longer I let this sit on my skin, the more the beeswax candle is coming forward, but there is still this underlaying sense of "not quite right". I really want to like this scent, but I'm kind of on the fence about it. I'll think I'll let this age for a little while and then try again.

    Baobhan Sith

In the imp: Fresh grapefruit, tangy and acidic, with a lovely backdrop of tea and spices (probably the ginger) Wet on skin: Smells like freshly sliced grapefruit, but slightly sweet, not too bitter. There is also a little tea, but that is very faint, and the spicy note is now gone. Dry: Slight grapefruit scent, mostly the zest now, along side a weak tea scent. Not very strong now. I absolutely adore this scent! Unfortunately, it lasts for about half an hour. After that, it just melds into my skin. I'd give this a 5 out of 5, but the staying power is non existent so it gets a 4. I would totally buy a gallon of this to bathe in (as that's what I'd have to do to get the scent to stick to me), but it would be worth it!

    Pain

Got this as a frimp from my last order - thanks Labbies In the imp: A strong medicinally herby mint Wet on skin: Whoa! My wrist is screaming at me "MINT MINT MINT and some other unknown herbs" ; The other unknown herbs, must be the lavender within the blend. Dry down: Medicinally minty, slightly menthol like scent. Fades quickly. This blend screamed at me from my imp, screamed at me from my wrist, then went mute after an hour. Glad I got to try out this scent, even though it didn't really agree with my olfactory sense.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

Oh goodness, I never experienced a rash from any oils I've tried yet, and I've got sensitive skin; but then again, I also haven't tried any cinnamon blends yet. I'm posting here because I think I'm sensitive to "smoke" within the labs blends. Anything that has a "smoke" note contained within is often headache inducing I decided to try The Lights of Mens Lives. Ahh, beeswaxy goodness, followed by ... smoke. Insert headache here. (Description of LOML: The wax and smoke of millions upon millions of candles illuminating the walls of Death’s shadowy cave: some tall, straight, and strong, blazing with the fire of life, others dim and guttering.) I don't know if aging my imp will help reduce the smokiness and increase the beeswax, but I'm willing to give it a try. Perversion, the same thing; although, this depends on the day and if I'm amping the smoke note to high heaven (Description of Perversion: Smoky rum and black tobacco with a whisper of steamy leather with a splash of crystalline chardonnay, layered over a sensual, sweet, and deceptively magnetic base of tonka.) I try and stay away from the smoke note, but many times a blend calls my name and I'll have to order an imp of it to see if it'll cause an issue.

Floria, I love citrus and foody scents - Yum! Very excited about placing my next order (runs to go place order this instant)

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

Okay, so this is the first time I've made a recommendation based on personality...bear with me 1) based on Aries being associated with war + need to control = Great Sword of War 2) based on contradictions (not meant to be offensive, btw) you describe sensitive/creative socially awkward/outgoing = I thought of Nephilim. Atrous, thank you for the suggestions! No worries about the contradictions, I am full of them I am intrigued by Nephilim, especially the vetiver component. Great Sword of War looks awesome as I love musk, tonka and tea notes. It's funny I never looked at either of these scents before. I'll be getting a pack of imps in my next order and these will be welcome additions.

    Embalming Fluid

In the imp: A cool, light citrus scent. Wet on skin: I smell the tea, with a background of light lemon. Dry: Oh my. Something is amiss. There is a note welling up from somewhere that ruins my wonderful lemon and tea experience. I know exactly what this reminds me of, this is deja vu. I'm 10 or 11 and at my next door neighbors house. They had hamsters. Were playing with them in the den. It was warm and the hamsters and their cages had this specific smell, so close to that which that I am smelling on my arm. It's fur, urine and cedar chips. Wow, I didn't even know that memory existed prior to smelling Embalming Fluid. I am surprised and a little disheartened at the same time. Surprised that I had this specific memory stored in my mush of grey matter that I call a brain. Disheartened that every time I smell this great scent, all I can think of is hamsters and pee. Damn. I guess I need to keep looking for a suitable tea scent.

    The Deep Ones

Why did you have to go and do me like that Deep Ones? I thought we were cool. I was obviously mistaken. You lured me in with your cool aquatic sensibility, salty airs. I thought I was in heaven. Then you turned. Wrapping your tentacles around my wrist, you turned into a noxiously sweet version of Axe body spray. Thats right, Axe body spray! I feel nauseated just smelling you. You have left me no other choice but to wash your briny poison from my now tainted flesh. I'm converting from the Esoteric Order of Dagon. There will be no more sacrifices or prayers for you, you vile creatures of the deep.

    No. 93 Engine

Got this as a crimp .. thanks Labbies! In the imp: woodsy clean incense. Wet on skin: beeswax with a little vanilla and honey. There is still a background of frankincense and a light citrus. Lovely! Dry: Frankincense. I had such high hopes for this one! The "wet" stage for No. 93 Engine is amazing, if only it would stay that way. Unfortunately, the frankincense takes over, like a conquering army. It destroys all other notes and nuances of scent. In the end there is frankincense. There will only be frankincense. And nothing else.

Thanks for the recommendation! I've never smelled or even heard of either of these perfumes before now. I am now very curious as to how these would smell; going to look up the scents now

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

Just found this thread. Yes. I have been hiding under a rock How cool to have a scent recommended to you based on a personality description! Hopefully, I can someday share my educated opinion on scent recommendations, but until that time, maybe someone could do mine? Here it is: My sign is Aries, Chinese year of the monkey. I'm a pessimist (although I like to say realist), creative (art degree: read stay at home mom). I love to dance (mainly ballet and zoomba, if zoomba is even considered "dancing"), sensitive (which totally sucks with the creativity thing because I hate criticism). My favorite color is blue (associated with the need to control or be in control). Sarcastic (but only occasionally now; I've gotten much softer with old age and my medication: aka happy pills). I feel socially awkward, but if I get to know someone or a small group of people, I'm outgoing and possibly even obnoxious.
