    Two Monsters

What can I say? I can't list notes, but I can say this: They are dark but very comforting, friendly, protective monsters.

    The Organ Grinder (2006)

I was very wary of the tobacco smoke, but when I had an option of getting an imp of the Organ Grinder in a swap with the lovely NDcent, I decided to take the opportunity. And thank goodness for that, for I have worn the Organ Grinder twice now and I do not smell the tobacco smoke; instead I smell almond milk indeed, but a dark almond milk, if that makes sense. The other ingredients blend in to make it darker. It is indeed, as many have said, a unique scent. It is very lovely and I will be holding on to my imp, and splurge on a bottle if I find myself very drawn to it.

    Dragon's Milk

No, there was a reason why I asked honey and my skin NOT GO TOGETHER. People adore this blend more than any of the other Ars Draconis, and while I love or like most Ars Draconis blends (Heart and Bone being my favourites) I have tried, and most other things with dragon's blood like Wilhelmina Murray, Dragon's Milk is turning into that medicinal plastic stuff when it hits my skin again, reminding me of O and NOT in a good way. So it is going somewhere where it will get loads of love, and I am disappointed.

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

IPA. International Phonetic Alphabet. But around my workplace, we call it "Life." (Just kidding, I actually do not use the IPA in my daily life and have relegated a whole bunch of it to the back burners of my mind.)

    shipping confirmation emails

I'm international. Sometimes you get an email from the lab (mine have always come from blackphoenix@ but when I emailed Sara at answers@ with a concern (wonderfully resolved) I got the reply from the grazzt@ address) and said emails usually say the same thing except for my name, so I suspect they are either automated or someone does them automatically However, S.B., if you are international and are not getting a CnS and are worrying about your order - I have had several orders, including the last one I made, which came in last week, come in without any notification (but great joy at the surprise!). Trading Post orders never have international CnS emails (Puddin' explains somewhere in the "Black Phoenix Trading Post" thread how it is only him doing everything in the Trading Post, and if he had to send out international CnS emails as well, it would take half the day). So, unless orders made at the same time as yours have appeared in the "I Got My Order" thread a month ago and you have still seen neither hide nor hair of your oils, do not worry. This last sad scenario has never happened to me, but it has happened to a few people (PilotKitten's story a couple of weeks ago in the "Come Squee With Us" thread is particularly noteworthy) and if you email the lab (at answers@ address) about it, usually they will be beyond considerate and accommodating.

Research was unable to confirm where the stresses are, but you are right on the A's, Juniperus.

    Akuma

I have heard this was sweet, and sweet things make Indicolite run headlong if they are perfume; however, my gut told me Akuma tempted me. And it is a keeper. My skin likes neroli, which is good because my nose likes it too. The blood orange and raspberry show up just enough to give the neroli a very interesting twist. I kept on bringing my thumb back to my nose to sniff it. I think Akuma is going to be a keeper.

    Eris

The wet fruits must be that note from Sacred Whore of Babylon that my brain always parses as melon, although I do not think it is. Eris is not as sweet as the Sacred Whore was; however, she does not make me go back to sniff her, which makes me relegate her, alas, to the swap pile.

    Dublin

It must the alder leaf I am getting. Nice, but not memorable at all.

    Snow-Flakes

Am I insane or is this citrus? The mint is cooming out now, lovely and cool, but I still get a hint of citrus that I smelled on opening the bottle - or is my memory playing tricks with associations with the clementine oranges of Christmas past? It also has a hint of something like spice in it. I think I need enough of it to last until the heat of summer, when it will be perfect. I have not tried Snow White, so I do not know how it compares, but Snow Flakes is very lovely indeed.

    Sol Invictus

I think I smell the citrus and the frangipani. I am waiting for the amber to come in; on my skin, amber is usually one of the last scents to the party but will last. This is very lovely; however, I may not need more than one bottle.

    The Darkling Thrush

I fullly agree with the above reviews: very soft, very delicate, yet on me cold and snowy as well. If there was any scent of winter thrush song, this is it. Mysterious and beautiful is the word. I can smell the orris (a favourite of mine) blended perfectly with the icy note, while the amber adds a hint of warmth. I think I may be in love.

    The Winter of Our Discontent

This is indeed cold, but in a very interesting way. It is clove, cypress, and what I think is artemisia. A very interesting spicy blend, and one I quite like. I am waiting for the myrrh to come out. However, I think this may be a blend I will need to stock up on.

    Wilhelmina Murray

At first she was hyacinth...hyacinth, hyacinth, hyacinth, praise be to the lab for my favourite flower. Now she is white sandalwood with perhaps a hint of myrrh. Still, I may need to stop up on my Mina.

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

The best approximation using only Eastern North America English that I can think of is mar-keez d"e" mare-t-"e"-y. "e" is the vowel in "her". If you try saying mare as in female horse and then saying t-"e"-y quickly, it will be quite close.

BPAL Fruit Blends - the many variations

Spicy, fruity, and general catalogue? I will put in a good word for Al-Shairan - peach and clove, and March Hare - apricot and clove may also give you that fruity spicy kick. The lab's apricot note is wonderful *lovingly strokes apricot Chaos Theory*.

    Fire of Love

Oooooh dear. Love Me and Follow Me Boy had the civet note under control - making things interesting but not overwhelming. But Fire of Love - is like Satyr. And I am going to use the dreaded simile that I have not yet used in nearly 150 imps tried, and say: It smells like ass. I am sorry. But no love. No fire. Fire of Love as a frimp was kindly meant, but it is probably going to get frimped to someone who will find success and rekindled love with it; I will try other methods.

    Dragon's Musk

Over a meet n' sniff discussion, the thesis came up that Dragon's Musk is the better version of Dragon's Heart. Now, being a passionate lover of Dragon's Heart, I wanted to test that thesis for myself, so I took the first opportunity to swap for some Dragon;s Musk (thanks, NDcent!) And tried Heart and Musk, one on each wrist. Musk is not "better." Musk is "different." It lacks the floral/fruit aspect of Heart. I can smell the muskiness coming through my favourite dragon's blood note. It creates an entirely different mood than Dragon's Heart does: I lack words precisely, but if Dragon's Heart to me was "I am beautiful, I am sexy" and Dragon's Bone was "I am calm, I am wise, things are steady" Dragon's Musk is a friendly love rather than a sexy one. Whatever, no words. The imp is a steady friend, although I will decide at a later date about bottles.

    Spellbound

The headshop descriptions in previous reviews were right - on first sniff, this took me back to a favourite, now rarely frequented jewelry store that sold Indian and Balinese silver and also incense of all kinds. Now on my skin, the roses have come out to play. Rose, rose, rose - but still the jewlery shop - but not the unpleasant-memory kind of incense. Not bad at all. Thanks, 1demondog, for frimping this!

    Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)

A lot of patchouli and musk. I was not completely floored by the Misfortune Teller, but after wearing her in my locket for a while, I am still not tired of her. She is getting to be my comfort scent (although there are GC comfort scents too) and I think I shall need to get more bottles to stock up before the end of the carnival.

    Harvest Moon 2006

Thank you to macabre_fae for a decant! I generally resist celebrating fall - it is only a sign of the coming of that dread winter - but this one I can actually smell as a joyous celebration of fall. Spiced apples is the top note, but as it dires I can smell the sage and herbs coming out. It is a VERY well done reflection of the Harvest Moon.

    Bat-Woman

Thanks to macabre_fae for a decant! My gut was right, as it usually is: I need a bottle of this. I really cannot pick notes out, but I keep on smelling the back of my hand where I put this, going "More, more, more..." Ok, next spare cash is going towards a bottle of this loveliness.

    Arcana

I am coming to the conclusion that my skin amps neroli like there is no tomorrow, because that is what I smelled and went "Oh, this smells like Calliope!" It does offer tantalising hints of rosemary and lavender. I like this scent, but seduction blend it is not.

    Black Moon

It started off as a really nice floral with the same note as in Sacred Whore of Babylon that makes me think of melons. But now it has a certain - edge to it that makes me wary (ETA: The edge is lotus, yes. Now changing my profile to affirm the sad truth: lotus makes me headachey.) This is all in a locket, by the way. On my skin it sort of vanished fairly quickly, before I got a good look at it. I do not know about this one. I will give it a chance, but I will not scrimp on giving away a couple of decants if other people want them more.

    Cheshire Cat

This is lovely, with grapefruit and...other stuff. It is not as powerful as Baobhan Sith on me, though. I will hold on to it for its loveliness, but if I do not reach for it often, I will swap the Cheshire Cat.
