    Midnight on the Midway (2006)

In the bottle: sticky sweet bubblegum incense. More bubblegum than incense, or maybe it's just that I'm hyper-sensitive to anything that might go sweet-gum on me. On, wet: patchouli-ish, woody, and a strong overlay of baby powder verging on going soapy. I worry now that the sugar is going to nail me, although actually, there's no 'plastic' scent like I usually suffer with at least. After drydown: a hint of sweet, vanilla-sugar smell, overlaying a strong wood smell (the incense, I assume; on me it turns cedar-y). And just a touch of something powdery, still. But it's faint and not quite baby-powder any more, just powder, just a little dry. I'm not sure this one is for me, but it dried down a lot better than it initially promised to behave when it first touched my skin. It doesn't evoke the Midway for me very well, though, too woody for that.

    Gennivre, L’Artiste du Diable

In the bottle: mint/citrus/mint, strong. On, wet: similar, a hint of floral wrapping around it. Very strong throw. After drydown: not quite as strong a throw, mint and citrus (mostly lemon) with the mint a bit stronger, sometimes with a touch of floral.

The Bow & Crown of Conquest

Mmmm. I wasn't at all sure if this would work on me, and oh is it yummy. Sexy and warm and sweet; the predominant notes I get once it's on my skin are the leather, musk, and vanilla, but so well-blended that I just smell it as sweet-warm-mmmm if I'm not actually thinking about it. (Of course, I'm not the best at picking out notes to begin with.) The other notes, if they're present, are too soft to pick out as such but I suspect they add to the effect. Wonderfully pleasant and, yes, just a bit delightfully sinister. I keep burying my nose in my wrist. It is a slightly masculine scent and I wondered if it would suit the DH better than I - he tried it, but it doesn't smell nearly as good on him. It likes my skin, though, and I think this is a scent I can actually wear. (But oh, if it had smelled on him like it does on me.... Yummy!) It seems somehow indolent to me, too, appropriate to the hot weather we're having lately.

    Aureus

I'm not good at picking out notes, but to me Aureus smells like nothing but moss - like I've stripped some off a tree in the forest and glued it to my wrist. Only without the itching and odd looks that would probably cause. Based on the other reviews and sniffing the imp again, I'm betting that it's the cedar/patchouli, I can kind of pick those notes out if I try, they just blend together into something very mossy on me....
