    Scents for battles in life

For whatever reason, Kyoto makes me feel a bit more "backboned" when I need it.

Valentine's day theme- flowers and candy

Ahhh, LOL! I'm an idiot - I have two bottles of "The Last Unicorn", and I love it! And I thought to myself after I posted, "I wonder if I found it, if it would be too similar to 'The Last Unicorn'?" So it sounds like I'm at least partially ahead of the game!

Valentine's day theme- flowers and candy

I'm bumping this thread, not just because we're close to Valentine's Day, but because I absolutely have to have THIS: OMG, white chocolate and sugared violets? No kidding, I have to have this - what else smells like this? I'm guessing it's gone, since it sounds like a LE? Thanks!

Spice me, baby! The spiciest BPAL blends

BUMP! Hi, everyone! Since you folks were so kind as to help me out in the Chocolate thread, I have a specific request from my boyfriend, and I think this seems like a good thread to ask it in so I'm not re-creating another thread (I promise, I did a search and didn't find anything specific!). So this morning, I made a cup of Stash Tea's Chai Spice flavor with breakfast. My boyfriend took one deep inhale and said, "If you could rub that all over your body, it would smell amazing!" So... anything that smells remotely like that tea? Something with chai, something with cinnamon, maybe? Back in the Chocolate thread, I picked up a bottle of Velvet, which to me smells like a wonderful chocolate sandalwood. I'm wondering if that would keep him happy? Thanks, everyone!

    Velvet

Very nice. I get pretty much only two really strong notes - cocoa and sandalwood. No changes from the bottle to wet application to dry down. It's a very incensey blend, but I like it. I've been seeking out chocolate scents, so this probably won't do it for me as far as that goes (I'm testing some chocolately imps, and so far, Bliss is the front runner), but I may get a bottle of this anyway - it's just really so exotic!

    The Last Unicorn

So beautiful! Upon opening: I get no chocolate from it except from the bottle when I take the cap off, and a little bit on the wet application, but it's amazing - I mean, a floral with chocolate and sandalwood? Incredible! On the dry down, the chocolate disappears, and I'm left with just the most gorgeous floral with the soft white sandalwood underneath, and a hint of the coconut. I don't get any of the coconut on the wet application, but it comes out later as it dries. I love this, I honestly just want to slather it on myself! It's just so gorgeous, I'm sure it's quickly going to become a favorite! EDIT: It's been about an hour now, and I'm really starting to get the violets coming through! LOVE!!
  10. I just wanted to bump this to thank everyone who recommended The Last Unicorn to me - it just arrived, and I'm already in love! I get no chocolate from it except from the bottle upon opening, and a little bit on the wet application, and it's amazing - I mean, a floral with chocolate and sandalwood? Incredible! Then on the dry down, the chocolate disappears, and I'm left with just the most gorgeous floral with the soft white sandalwood underneath. I love this, I honestly just want to slather it on myself! It's just so gorgeous!

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

Black Opal is my favorite and I lament it daily! I find Haunted to be in the same vein as both Black Opal and Shalimar (though I can't really wear Shalimar as it's crazy strong to me, and neither BPAL is.) Morocco is a bit similar in feel to me, too, though without the distinct vanilla note. I've been told that tonka is the note in Black Opal that I love so much, and though it didn't work on me, Rum-Soaked French Tonka might be worth trying out - not sure if it's still lab-available but it was so recent that you shouldn't have much trouble tracking some down. Yaay! Thank you - I'll give those a try. I'm getting ready to place an order to a) restock up on "Alice", and b ) to order a full size of whichever one of my current set of six "chocolate/cocoa" imps strikes my fancy (so far, "Bliss" is the clear front-runner - I still have "Velvet" and "Vice" to try out from that set). So when I order Alice and whichever one of the chocolate imps I love the best, I'll order those as well. Thanks!

    Intrigue

I totally got the palm, a little fig and the wooded notes. I also quite a bit of cedar. No cocoa notes for me at all. Very woodsy - not unpleasant, kind of a clean woodsy smell. Not for me, but it's a good one if you wanted a clean kind of "foresty" smell. This is one of those rare ones for me that smelled exactly the same out of the imp, during the wet phase, and during the dry down. The notes didn't change for me at all.

    How Doth the Little Crocodile

Really, really nice! Wet - again, same as with Bliss - chocolate and peanuts, but also mint on this one. Dry down - I'm definitely getting cedar. It's really a nice compliment to the mint. After a while - everything's kind of softening up and complementing each other. It's all melded into this one lovely soft, sweet, a little powdery, slightly musky scent. This could be a real contender!

    Eat Me

I'm honestly not getting a "foodie" smell from this. It's spicy, but not overwhelmingly so. I think if I had to compare it to a food, the closest would be a spice cake, which makes it nice for this time of year! Wet: Vanilla and spice. Dry: Just lovely spice. I don't think I'll go for a full bottle, but I do think it's a lovely scent. I went for it because it's been reviewed as a nice Vanilla scent, which I got on the wet application, but the vanilla part disappeared very fast on my skin.

what is ruining these scents for me?

Do you think it might be the sandalwood or the Nepalese spices? I mention that because lot of "spicier" scents tend to go B.O.ish on me too. There are very few I can wear. I do have The Last Unicorn on the way, which has white sandalwood in it, so I'll see - it might be so little sandalwood that I'll be okay. But out of commercial fragrances, literally the only spicy one that doesn't stink on me is Coco Chanel. I've worn Opium and Youth Dew and have actually had people come straight up to me to tell me how awful I smell! All that being said, I don't know what's in Cathedral. I found some reviews online at some other fragrance site when I did a Google search. It doesn't list the actual notes, but the people reviewing it mention frankincense, cedar, sandalwood - it's described as very incensey.
